The cross sectional integrity should be available in its entire length minus the thread as a single straight piece, without splits! Tightening with a nut at the split location does not ensure integrity, it may not even be able to with stand combined bending and shear stresses. Also the nuts on either side of the central nut are just tightened to hold the central nut in position but not locked,it is susceptible to loosening under vibration or under any dynamic loading. This methodology won't be safe and is prone to failure.

Yeah we call them a connector nut in Australia. We run thread rods up through the frame of a house to tie the frame down in high wind areas
If you are on some deserted island, this fix is perfect, just to make it back to civilisation, but other wise just buy a new bolt its cheap and safer.
