I like how to take your time to explain a subject. You did a video a while back where you actually built a primitive water filtration system during the video. I really appreciate those kinds of videos. I like the oven video, all these different types of items that people don’t usually know about are great. Many content creators are into the scare factor and I feel there is enough of that already with reality so I don’t really learn a usable skill from them.
I find that I enjoy watching the "scare factor" videos because they're fun to watch, but they don't leave you with anything that you didn't already have - other than maybe an increased sense of purpose.
Thank you for this review. Pains me not to be able to bake on my woodstove . While I would love to install a Bun Baker type stove we have more pressing homestead projects to accomplish. This pipe oven seems to be the perfect compromise.
Here's another way to approach it that I used to great success for years before I got the cylinder stove in this video: ruclips.net/video/e2w7NTtk0T0/видео.html The only downside is that it takes up so much room on the cook top that there's not much room for any other cooking while you're using it.

I’ll add on to this by saying that real useful info on medicinal plants is interesting but info on growing and processing them would be really useful kind of like the video where you highlighted the salve you make for your skin.
First, if you'll let me get this off my chest: I met you through Alien Invasion and I will admit there is a big difference between the seasons, along the lines of what InMyImage mentions. In the first season you were being pursued and almost shot with an arrow - I don't know what happened after that so there's no transition between the first and second seasons. The alien invasion plot was more pronounced and there was more suspense about the dangerous encounters and situations that a beginner would easily relate to. This would leave the viewer hanging on the cliff with the main character. Season 1 was more about running away from immediate danger while season 2 seems like aimless wondering which I'm pretty sure is what we would also be doing, in the same situation, so season 2 does serve to make that point. Thing is, your character saw someone killed by an alien drone and that proximity to the alien phenomenon isn't really appearing anymore. As a viewer, I would have sat quietly in the forest with the main character to watch a little of what was happening with that downed ship. If only to get a little taste of the alien intrigue. Perhaps more alien close-encounter scenes or "alien survivor" quazi-encounters like that off HuplesCat would bring the story back to the alien invasion story line? Season 2 is not about invading aliens so the title can be misleading if the viewer is expecting an alien movie. Perhaps a chance encounter with "lost" people or a lost child (River could play that part maybe?) and by showing him how to survive, the viewers would also learn? That could be a source of character development normally found in a second season of story telling. Also, the main character would have company along the journey instead of being a lone-wolf, creating a different dynamic of survival. I'm just throwing ideas out in case something inspires you ;) As I've mentioned to you before, Alien Invasion could easily be the next Walking Dead, it's that good of an idea. But budgets right? Alien Invasion is a different product than your site -it will naturally have different audiences. Essentially though Praxis, if we were sitting down for a good cup o' tea, I'd look you in straight in the eye, hold your hand and say: Please don't give more than 1 minute to any doubts you might be feeling. Thanks for the thoughtful comment WP. You definitely get what I'm trying to do with the second season. I allude to it in the first episode of that seasons when my character talks about wanting to keep things boring. I suppose that keeping people's excited keeps people wathcing, but I also wanted to fold in that feeling of nothingness and meaninglessness into the second season. I wanted it to start to feel like "what's the point at this point". I think that those would be powerful feelings in the time after a major collapse, so I wanted to try to convey that lack of excitement, lack of... "plot" to be honest. I'm not surprised that fewer people want to follow the 2nd season for those reasons. I do think that the primary reason that the numbers have been down though is because of the RUclips lack of notifying people. The first season had over 100,000 viewers, and thousands of people subbed to my channel while watching the series. So those were definitely people who wanted to continue to watch. But the 1st episode of the 2nd season had less than 600 viewers. So I'm thinking that many people just aren't being served notifications - since I'm also told people that sub that this is the case. That's not much of a concern for me though. I do this stuff because I enjoy it and people people tell me that it helps. And... I earn about $1.20 per day from this channel - which is the REAL reason I put in the time. ;) I am thinking about getting another person to enter into season 2 if I can. That adds a lot of complexity (and cost) to the production though. So I'm not sure if I'll do it or not. The season is going to pick up in terms of plot around the day 10 episode of season 2. But it won't be excitement as much as kicks in the groin to my character. That's the other thing that I wanted to keep real. The main characters in real life don't always make it. Thanks again for the kind thoughts and suggestions.
What I am hoping to see is an analysis of how well your heating system works in the winter and in the summer. My experience is that with large openings between floors results in the top floors being hot all the time and the bottom floors being cold. In the summer, running air through cold areas causes a lot of condensation...
So far it's been working great. We have a vent system that brings the heat from the tip top of the house and vents it under the concrete floors. Of all the new aspects of the house, it's the one that I'm 100% super happy with.
I would like to see a video of your vent system that brings the heat from the tip top of the house and vents it under the concrete floors. I have the same situation with my house. The upstairs gets really warm and the downstairs stays alot colder.

I didn't mention that there's a crank on the back for rotating a creosote brush that's permanently installed inside. If you build one yourself, be sure to add that. I might be doing a more in depth video in a month or so about this unit too.
I would say on the alien invasion. You definitely need to go back to the two videos. Meaning alien invasion then the second video talks about the lessons in the episode.
Maybe I'll do that. It was a nice way to focus the information. I was going to keep them up, but interest in the second season has been so weak that I never did... the impending doom of the winter of 2021-2022 might alo be taking up some of my time too. ;)
What kinda pipe & what size pipe do you have on the top & bottom of your oven ? The reason why I ask is because the average 6" pipe won't slide over the 6" inlet & outlet of the oven I have that's the same make & model that you have !! Is there special inlet & outlet fittings that on it or what ??
I have a 6" exhaust pipe out of my stove. It's double walled for what that's worth, but the central pipe inside the double walled pipe is 6 inches... or at least it was sold as 6" pipe. I honestly don't think I ever had cause to measure it to check. The Chester Stove oven that I have was also sold as a 6" pipe fit design. For me, they fit easily without issue. If I were to venture a guess as to what your issue is, I'm recalling that the stove company I bought my oven from (which you suggested was the same company as who you bought from) offered a 6" and a 5" model. Could you have been sent their 5" model by accident maybe?
Prax and family. What do you do with gray water(soapy water from dishes, washing cloths) ? I have a cabin on 5 acres. No running water(local stream and catchment system) or septic, just outhouse. Presently use 6-8 days a month. I rinse off the single pot or dish i use in a basin and do no laundry or other heavy cleaning. If i start living there, let alone have 3 or 4 people during a crisis, I will be generating a lot more gray water and dont want to impact the soil in a negative way. Anyone have thoughts on what to do with this potentially excessive gray water? Thanks from PA Applachians.
Good for you for giving gray water a try. It's a great resource. I haven't hooked up any of our gray water systems at our new homestead yet. Gray water is always a legal "gray" zone. So we plumbed the house for inspection with the plan to alter later. Here's the system that I was running at my old place though. And it worked really well: ruclips.net/video/cIU6uvAOssE/видео.html
Praxis, I have been with you for a while. I have watched some of the little house of quarantine series, but I, too, am a big fan of the Alien invasion series along with the prepping videos. I am currently waiting on my stove pipe and installing our wood burning stove. Because of your videos, I am adding an inline oven. Basically it seems like some of your videos we do not realize we need until it is out. That being said, I am also noticing a lack of notifications which probably does not help. When it comes to your videos, I understand where you are coming from. This is as much of a development for you as it is for us. Just like in college, you can only do so many 101 classes. There is an evolution in prepping, and like reading a story, everyone's path differs. This is your story. I think that sometimes people lose interest because it is just that, your story. Maybe too in depth on the topics while not being uncharacteristically to deep. Perspective, I suppose. I think you do a great job being you.
Thanks CA. I'm just hoping to be able to share info that's most relevant and useful for people. So it helps to get a sense of where people are. I'll keep dong the "being me" thing. But when I don't have a specific video to share on anything I'm doing/thinking about, I like to know what people are in search of so that I can maybe help a bit.
What I think would be helpful for your channel and for a lot of people new to prepping would be to follow the money, or lack of it. There are a lot of folks talking about SHTF but few people talking about how to prep for getting along with less when the poop is next to the fan and just stinking things up. I mean really, how many are going to do what you did a build their own place or what I did and move way off grid where the closest gas station is 40 miles away? Not many. But, with the stress we see in the economy, how many will still be in their suburban home or even urban apartment and not have the resources they once took for granted? You frequently say you are about prepping for the most likely things such as a power outage or an extreme weather event stranding people for a week or two. (Which BTW I think is far more valuable to far more people than say, building a bush-craft stick house which other preppers have done.) Anyway, address the most common denominator of those who might be coming to prepping as the financial SHTF happens on an individual level. What will a family or an individual need most? How can they stretch a very tight budget if one of them looses their job, or the government stops sending checks, or inflation grinds away their purchasing power? For me, the wood stove oven is interesting and a real option to burning propane if it becomes too expensive. For those in town, solar cooking in the back yard or on the apartment balcony might be an interesting and useful thing. Along that specific thread, it can be a lot more than just the solar oven or cooker. What are the differences in food prep, even what can be cooked better or not as well? Show how you prep a chicken or fillet of fish - if you do and what to watch for. What other things have you covered in your earlier videos that would be good to do over from the perspective of doing them in an apartment or city house? What else will everyone need? One thing I can say for certain no matter where you live, you need community. You have your son and house mate, plus your dad is apparently close by so you have an immediate community. Many people don't have that but everyone needs it. The value of community, especially in-town prepping is an area almost no one is talking about. A few unique preppers such as Lynette Zang talk about community, but even she doesn't talk about how to build it. Community gardens, community gardens in yours or a neighbors yards (front and back). Community hydroponics in a back yard pool. Community raising rabbits or quail and why those two are better than chickens. As an aside, multiples more calories and food for the average person can be raised year around with rabbits or quail and can be done virtually everywhere because they are considered as pets by cities and HOAs. Chickens stink, are noisy, and not pets. Yeah, I know you and Amber are vegetarian, I'm speaking of this for the value of others. This in-town prepper community can be as little as or extensive as one's imagination. Community would have been a great asset for the pandemic. An legitimate excuse to garden with neighbors would be very welcome. Back in the day from the 50s back, Americans went to church for community to the tune of about 90%. Today, it less than 40% and most non church goers don't want anything to do with it. Yet, they still need community and a way to make it happen. In-town prepping is a built in device. Okay, that's it for now on possibilities. Personally, I hope you continue as I enjoy your channel.
That's a VERY good suggestion. I know I have a lot to share along those lines, but I've also graduated (as have you) from that micro-level prepping. So my life experiences now are out of sync with that entry level experience. You're right though. That's what most people need.
HA I was about to make a don't dent your lids video. MIND READER. I actually thought of you and your "I can things in store jars" video from years ago! I always feel as if I am going to murder everyone with my canning yet can 100s of pounds of sh*t yearly now. Something you could do that I've been thinking about myself is talking about openly about the hardships of making yourself prep, if you have any I guess. Like I do most of this alone and a lot of prepper channels never talk about the struggle of actually making yourself do the thing . Haters might take it as whining but sometimes I have real struggles getting myself to do simple things. Teaching school, running a business, homestead and whatever else we do daily can get hard and start to break our brains. I just recently decided I had to talk to people more because I was getting a weird level of loneliness not talking to people about prepping. You are a wonderful teacher and person though, and whatever you decide to do will be the right thing I am sure. Hugs man you are awesome
I've been feeling a bit of burnout generally myself too. I do it all here at my house too. I'm a single dad, so I take care of the boy. Amber lives here with us but she's not a fountain of help and energy. She's trying to get better but the reality is that I'm the dad, and the mom, the friend, the breadwinner, the maid, the repair guy, and the prep for everything guy here and it's a lot. So I hear you. It'd be nice to feel more like I'm part of a team than a lone wolf. That's why I'm so harsh on the lone wolf idea on my channel is because it's what I do and it's not even great during PREcollapse times. So yeah, I feel you on this one. At least you've saved me a lot of time opening my flour and oat bags! That took a load off my daily grind. :)
I feel ya. My grown kids are not helpful. Elden my older son used to help out but he is at the angry 17 stage, my daughter 21 tries to help but the pandemic rolled in right on top of a tragedy in her personal life and she is a delightful mess, but trying. The 6 yr old whoooweee he is a force to be reckoned with. I was mom and dad for ages, still kind of am. I remarried but still fill all of the rolls as I am rather a bit of an overachiever and he is a lot younger than me, and I can't expect him to be a dad to the big kids. Ah the joys of being old with a ton of baggage LOL. I am as prepped as I can get without selling and moving to a new homestead. Mount Rainier still wigs me out and Washington is well, yeah..LOL I sent you an email, Sir. If you even need some bizzare cuts of an apocalyptic cultist or anything let me know. I am flush in costumes and props as a theater geek/designer/prepper. I should have never taken a break making videos and stuff. I missed it so much. I suck, but I love it =D and am getting better..not really LOL
More guns more reviews of guns more over the top scenarios about how to use guns 😜 Just kidding I sprinkled a couple of my real comments as responses to other viewers related comments but here are more… it is completely understandable that you are suddenly hitting a creativity wall given that the last two years have been almost completely dedicated to building your home. I’d recommend that you go back to your roots outside Alien Invasion by going back and watching some of your own early videos. You have so much more to do on your homestead and I have confidence that you can discuss ways to downsize things to what someone with limited land can realistically accomplish. Examples, you used to do small scale aquaculture and I assume you will do it again. While laying out your own system show people how they can do something in the corner of their living room with a fishtank feeding say a tomato plant and some herbs feeding the fish with maybe some extra duckweed for the fish on the side. Go into detail on your solar hot water heater and maybe think up a way to make an effective outdoor solar shower for a retreat, I know I can come up with one simply but videos are about ideas and not everyone can come up with simple great ideas or they didn’t think of one like yours plus engagement in comments is bound to lead to good sharing of other ideas. Your woodshed would be a great example, I’m not sure I would have thought about the vertical 2x4 floor but instantly saw the benefits and will definitely be integrating it when I build a woodshed. Sometimes how to do something isn’t as interesting as how to do it for optimal success so like a root cellar. Surface level is just an underground room that stays cool but people don’t know how cool they really need to aim for and what the humidity needs to be and how to really pack fresh picked vegetables and fruit to be able to enjoy still fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the winter. I don’t know if you actually know just an example and no I don’t know but I have a really good video that I added to a homesteading playlist a couple years ago for me to rewatch when I’m ready, turns out damp sand is a key ingredient for many veggies. Other stuff is setting up your greenhouse and the considerations for how you organize them based on what you grow. I was really surprised at how high you made the side walls versus setting them up to allow more low angle light so I’m looking forward to your efforts setting it up. Lessons learned from previous homesteads and changes you are making this time based on those lessons like say your gray water distribution, rainwater catchment if you do it, humanure or just regular ol manure production. Sometimes new ideas are born from revising your ld ones and that applies to old videos as well. I’m also hoping you get into real detail on your solar setup and installation, can’t tell you how irritating it is to see my inverter/charger sitting in a corner of my daughter’s living room knowing that I have two DIY 272ah batteries I built just waiting to be installed sitting in my trailer in CA. Really sick of the supply chain issues and getting to the point where I just take it back incomplete and cash out whatever couldn’t be finished. Shop is now saying that they can have the skirting fabricated but don’t know how much out of pocket I might be responsible for since insurance is only going to cover the cost of OEM parts. The entire sidewall might be blank too because all the decals are god knows where but agent has said that I could just have them delivered to my daughter’s and then installed at a different shop and they will cover that. Mechanical work is supposedly finished just waiting on the damn skirts, decals and awnings that cover our slideouts 🤬🤬🤬 Anyhow I have faith you’ll find your way quickly once you really sit down and think about adding value to the things you think are mundane. I think most people interested in prepping are interested in homesteading by extension and ways to actually implement small scale solutions they can actually accomplish in their own homes, apartments, mobile homes or homesteads would be greatly appreciated, especially indoor growing of some veggies or maybe fruit although I’m not sure many fruits grow well in small spaces… 🤔
And thanks for revisiting the oven, it makes a lot of sense that things seem to be cooking better for you since when you think about it the 360 degree heat source is probably just as effective if not more so than convection.
Also, I wish I had watched ahead when you’ve released AI on Patreon but it’s actually a real pain to do so because Patreon basically sucks as a platform… I would have been able to mention earlier that I thought the season might not get as much engagement as last season because the episodes are more quasi-bushcraft lessons than the dramatic story that season 1 was. Another commenter said they missed the 2 part videos/episodes where the first video was the episode and the second was takeaways on lessons or things to think about. So far this season is mostly just Part 2 videos with a little dramatic flair sprinkled in. I’m confident fans of Praxis are enjoying them but fans of Alien Invasion might be disappointed and losing, or worse yet lost, interest.
Unfortunately... I can't... yet. I started this channel partly to improve my speaking skills (which I feel I have - I was DREADFUL when I first started, and slightly better now). Hand waving reduction might be a good thing to focus on at some point too. It may take me a bit though; as you can see, my speaking still needs some work as well. ;)
@@PraxisPrepperyour delivery is fine in my opinion! Maybe because I grew up on the east coast but people talk with their hands. Better than stiff and unnatural.
Thanks Amos. I personally don't mind my hand gesticulating either. I might toy with toning it down once I feel like i have my ability to deliver narration perfected... which itself will likely never happen. ;)@@AmosDudley

I would love you to show your solar battery hydro set up and if you have change overs or how your set in general
Will do.
Oh thanks btw I have been waiting on the over video
I didn't mention that there's a crank on the back for rotating a creosote brush that's permanently installed inside. If you build one yourself, be sure to add that. I might be doing a more in depth video in a month or so about this unit too.
I would say on the alien invasion. You definitely need to go back to the two videos. Meaning alien invasion then the second video talks about the lessons in the episode.
Maybe I'll do that. It was a nice way to focus the information. I was going to keep them up, but interest in the second season has been so weak that I never did... the impending doom of the winter of 2021-2022 might alo be taking up some of my time too. ;)
Also quick question on the oven....is it just hollow all around and the smoke goes threw the air space?
Exactly. it's like double wall pipe except the smoke goes inside the double walls vs through the center.
@@PraxisPrepper awesome I think I will have a custom one built
(Which BTW I think is far more valuable to far more people than say, building a bush-craft stick house which other preppers have done.)
Anyway, address the most common denominator of those who might be coming to prepping as the financial SHTF happens on an individual level.
Mount Rainier still wigs me out and Washington is well, yeah..LOL
I sent you an email, Sir. If you even need some bizzare cuts of an apocalyptic cultist or anything let me know. I am flush in costumes and props as a theater geek/designer/prepper. I should have never taken a break making videos and stuff. I missed it so much. I suck, but I love it =D and am getting better..not really LOL
thumb's up my friend
Quite the talker
Don't forget to remember your manners - even online.
More guns more reviews of guns more over the top scenarios about how to use guns 😜 Just kidding I sprinkled a couple of my real comments as responses to other viewers related comments but here are more…
it is completely understandable that you are suddenly hitting a creativity wall given that the last two years have been almost completely dedicated to building your home.
Mechanical work is supposedly finished just waiting on the damn skirts, decals and awnings that cover our slideouts 🤬🤬🤬
Anyhow I have faith you’ll find your way quickly once you really sit down and think about adding value to the things you think are mundane.
You might want to stop waving your hands around... a bit distracting.
