- Testing out the new Alpine camp chef wood stove. It sat in my apartment as a decoration for a year before I finally baked the enamel off of it. Highly recommended vs. the military style light weight camp stoves.

I’ve finished all of Steve’s new videos, so now I’m watching the old ones. Incredible to see the old, reliable wood stove’s first ever appearance.
Same
Who else is addicted to Steve's videos? Always well done and super interesting.
I guess you could say steves videos are my step 2
I am for sure
Fan yes
Lol me :)
His recording gear has certainly improved since 2017, and now he has that fancy checkmark next to his name.
I only found him because of "stealth camping," but that's more of a rough-times survival thing, I camp to socialize and have fun... can't be stealth when you have 4 guys drinking.
Now I have to find the ice-fishing video where this stove is used.
Steve is seriously the coolest guy on RUclips! If I’m having a shi I mean crappy day I always check out a Steve video. Almost always makes things better. Love ya Steve from South Carolina.
I feel like I've gone full circle now that I've seen the test firing of the stove....
Me too, I was just thinking the same thing! And I was half expecting him to fire a blowtorch at that thing! 😁
I have used this same woodstove for 4 years running now for the only heat i have and for cooking in the wintertime i love this little stove and i have 14 feet of pipe on mine it has really good draw too :)
I'm new to this but is there a standard size angle pipe to get it out of a window i could buy?
@@davewebster5120 if you get all new black pipe it cost a little more but will last a long time and then I believe it is 5" pipe at the stove you can use the same pipe dampening just drill to holes in the new pip
They call it an elbow that is what I think you are looking for never herd of angle pipe before
I have this exact stove along with nesting water heater and love it. Steve, hilarious the way you throw the parts all over and throw the door open like you’re trying to break the hinges but still say, “that probably means it’s going to last a while”. If you take care of it, it will last even longer. 😂
Well I'm on step 13 - 14... I'm glad to see that your stove's been well used! Here's to some stove top stuffing and jiffy pop in the woods!
Seen ur other videos when you've already been using this crazy how I just came across it the beginning of the journey
Me, too. 👍
The way he just threw his phone like lol
This episode is like a scene from Saturday Night Live.
Who's needs a phone... 👍
cell phones are just junk anyways
Camp chef should've given Steve the stove for free for how much free advertising they've gotten for it through Steve's videos. I don't even winter camp but, because of Steve's channel, I know I must eventually have one! For under $200, and all it does for you, its a steal. And if you take good care of it, it can last you a lifetime.
I love going back to your old videos bud, much love from Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on the shores of lake Superior
Thanks to you I got mine today from Cabelas on sale - $ 260 canadian. So happy!
My buddy bought this stove for our trip up to northern b.c. It kept a 13 by 27 foot tent smoking warm in minus 6 weather. It was great.
My family just bought a small plot of land in the Adirondack and we plan to build a cabin, I really want to make a small shed off to the side that'll be my art studio and I want something to keep me warm when I wanna work there in the winter, I remembered that you use this in your videos and decided to do some backtracking, didn't expect a whole video on it. Thanks Steve keep up the vids and stay safe out there!
Looking back on this it's good to see the first unboxing of the now burned and rusty stove...
Hey Steve, ever think about taking orders for that stove of yours and your tent, marking it up 10% and most likely retiring in a couple years if you keep this up. You're such a freaking natural with the wit of yours just kills me.
Here in 2020 and you are still using this stove so your recommendation was correct.
That phone call moment had me cracking up 😂😂😂😂 hangs up, lobbs phone to the side and continues video 😂😂😂👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 love it
Thanks man. Straight to the point while being funny at the same time good job
Have used mine for five years. No problems, does not smoke up tent. Stove pipes work fine. Heats up my 12x20 Alaknak just fine. Like the flat cooktop and the side water heater. Makes winter camping fun.
I'm thinking of using this to heat a 10x16 lofted barn , do you think it will work for that just fine? Maybe maintain around 70 degrees Fahrenheit?
I discovered your videos about 2-3 months ago and have been trying to catch up...I saw the one where you first started the truck camper build...perhaps nothing more has been done with it...I will keep watching...love these addictive vids.
I have the same stove some of the modifications ive done as follows
I put harbor freight chipping hammer spring handles( cut them off the hammers ) on the door latch and front vent
Put some fire proof door seal around the door
Put rubber end caps on the legs
Made little handles on the leg thumb screws ( they look like the tightening handle on a vice)
I welded nuts onto self taping screws then put 2 at each smoke stack connection joint
Made my own rain cap with spark arrestor screen
Found a vintage Milatary wood stove shovel that fits inside the stove when taken apart
Stove works great
Keeps the 13’X20’ wall tent cozy in the winter time
The water tank is a bit noisy when its heating water
I can’t remember Steve ever swearing on camera on the newer vids haha badass
We just got one of these. Looking forward to using it. My wife and I love your videos. Thanks!
Oh Steve you are the only RUclipsr I'd sit through one ad in particular for
Nice stove. I've got a smaller one, with the 4 inch pipe like you described. I used it to do all my cooking for 6 months when I lived off-grid in a caravan. Absolutely loved it!
Cool video. Just got my hunker down hoodie today and it's great.
Thanks to Steve I bought this stove for my outfitter ⛺️
Thanks,I'm thinking of buying this stove and your review helped alot
Mikey DeLucia hi mikey. How much are they costing? Did you get one?
Been wanting one like this for years. Thanks
Thanks Steve. Gotta get me one of those for my Scotland trip
Great video I have just bought the same stove and looking forward to try.
Nice review. Love your videos, brother. Thanks for putting so much effort into these :)
I paid close attention to the stove..I'm the designated BBQ guy..for summer camping with family & friends Outdoorworld Lake & Shore New jersey..I wanna show my kids that winter camping is just as fun..I love it
Just came across this. Another great job.
That’s nice they put the damper holes in the pipe for you. I have always had to make them myself. An old rancher friend gave me the secret. a .22 bullet makes the perfect size hole, and if you hold your gun level they are both always in line!
Nice camp stove review! Thanks for sharing!
It works out alright steve! You’ll use it for years!
Really like your video's steve, new sub!
Since covid, I started gardening more. I'm getting ready to put together a greenhouse, with a aquaponics for fruits, veggies, and tilapia. This stove will be subgrade, and hopefully produce ample heat. Aquaponics has a nice thermal mass and with the mild winters here, I might not even need to use it many years. But this will ensure a extra layer of protection to the system as weather can be unpredictable at times
Just enjoying myself sitting in my San Diego crackhouse watching another great video oh Steve
I’m buying this stove . I’m
Sold . I’ve seen it in a ton of your videos and it looks very high quality
Winters calling, we got Brats!
So anyway.... throws new iPhone 300 feet! I love this guy!
You've come a long way buddy
Just picked up one of these stoves today along with the water heater tank.
okey i have seen the newer vids but this one is brilliant.. xD phone call happens, Steve awnsers, then just lobs the phone away like "and gone it is!" xD
Chucks phone... Keeps building.... My kinda show.
Here's what I want for Christmas: a "fireplace video" with Steve and Crazy Neighbour kicking back by the fire! 🎄🎁 Thank you in advance. 😁⛄
Wow! Steve with no beard or mustache. Makes you look younger but this was two years ago!
Funny I never noticed the beard thing
That phone call though 😂😂
Just Bought the 12x12 Cabelas Alacnak outfitters tent..Also the Camp chef barrel stove..Great Video will set the stove up and burn the paint off also
Love the phone call
I WANT THIS THING! 👌
Hahaha. Watched your entire 8 week school winter camping finished it today. saw this guy put the hotdogs in the pan in this video. then put beer in it.. im like this guy is trying to copy that guys videos. lol nope its the same guy!! You look diferent shaved love your videos man!!
I had this stove in my Amazon cart for months. Couldnt pull the trigger because of price. I waited too long and paid $20 more. Saw you video in the tent and decided to buy it now. Thx for making this first video; only now seeing it. Needed to know how to put the spark arrestor on ;)
Is the spark arrestor the thing at the top of the chimney? What does it do?
Christine Beck ...would be better to pick up a screened raincap,, or make one from gallon size coffee or paint can....
Any info after a year of use? I am looking at this stove as well... Great post!
He still uses it in his new videos so I think it's been great!
Love your older videos, you swear more and didn’t give a shit. I get it we are older now and are just nicer, but loving the old vids!
I don't know man I have the military one and love it that thing looks heavy as hell
I keep expecting Bubbles to walk into screen....
Only Steve can have over 100,000 views of setting up a camping stove. 😂😂😂
Wow would i like one of those in the house, only problem is where would i send the smoke? Great video Steve.
great video Steve. Thank you. I have been researching different stoves for months now and I like this one because it is so cheap. I found it on sale for $140 and its almost impossible to beat that price. You've owned yours now for 1 year, do you still like it? Thank you...Sean
Any wood burner will last longer if you oil it(vegetable oil works fine). We oil ours once every year. Same with our stove pipe, which is older than the stove we heat our house. Had to buy a new one, as the old one from the 70's finally cracked in the back.
where did you buy it at
Love the phone yeet!! 😂
Steve you will aways have a place to stay in Toronto
Your Awesome
I have the same one!
I have the same stove. By the way the grates you slide on the side, you have them upside down. That's a great stove I have used it many a time during a winter camp in my Alaknak 12 x 12
jocap75 i have a question i ehant to buy it but the cheminey come with or no
GELO the chimney comes with it. I bought mine at Cabela's
jocap75 hachets camping
jocap75 same setup here, alaknak and camp chef stove. Modified my stove with a gasket for the door, welded a sheet of steel under the stove exhaust to stop sparks & keep heat in stove better. Stole the idea from 3 dog wood stoves RUclips page haha
@@millwrightdad3753 where'd u see that? how far below the exhaust did you weld.. interested to try that sounds like a great idea
I wonder how stable the pipe is, it is so high. Yet another question that comes to mind, does it funnel rainwater into the tent?
Not in use, the flue is so hot rain doesn’t get too far before boiling off.
Miss you Steve! Hope you're doing well 🤘🇨🇦❤️
Only now seeing Steve's shaven face ive noticed his neck is freaking massive what an absolute unit.
😂 I noticed that too.
Just ordered one.
Can I ask where did you get it? Thankx!
@@JodBronson amazon
@@hendrickverton2110 - Hi, I did and it said not available.
I am just now watching this video... i think its the 1st time i have seen u clean shaven...
Yowwwww...this man just dash a iPhone like a hockey puck on a face off lol
How long did it take to setup from being packed/stowed?
These stoves are about 279 at Cabela's right now... is a worth it?
4:33 Hold my calls, I'm in a meeting.
I think Mav and a few friends are comming to help you Steve. I don't actually know you so I'll just keep watching old footage and 🙏 for you to have peace 🕊
What are your thoughts on this stove after a 2 years of use? Mine arrives next week. The spark arrest doesnt look to well thought out. A lot of people recommend putting a gasket on the door.
It is amazing. Heavy, but amazing. The spark arrestor is just a mesh bag thing, but it hasn’t fallen apart yet. The stove has got LOTS of use, and I mean on the order of hundreds of fires.... still holding up perfectly. I had bought some gasket to put around the door, but it closes too tightly for the gasket to fit (with the gasket rope I bought) it would probably work well with a thin gasket. All in all... best purchase ive made in a while
@@campingwithsteve thanks for the info :) can't wait to try it out! Thanks for all the great content Steve
Got the last one for under 190. Couldn't wait anymore
How do you know like it ?
Pros ?
Cons ?
What type of application are you using it for ?
Did you use engine epoxy to glue on a fiberglass gasket ?
Thinking of picking one up for a "just in case" window install.
I appreciate your time spent in responding.
Nice, good shanty stove, angle it , at a 45
Wow seeing Steve here without much of a beard vs other times with a beard is almost like two different people
I was looking to buy one of these stoves with the water container attachment. The one thing that I noticed from your video, this stove doesn't have a secondary burn chamber. Is this an issue. Thanks Charlie
O hey, it doesn't have a secondary burn chamber, but I've never had an issue with warmth. I tested it out last night in -33 Degrees in a small shack and it kept it almost uncomfortably hot. It is fairly heavy as is, so I am comfortable with the trade off between a secondary burn chamber and weight. New video testing it out here:

Loved it Bro’ …
CrAzY Neighbour
Steve, where did you purchase this stove. Hard to find at this time of year, late sept.thanks
DO YOU NEED TO PUT CREOSOTE REMOVER IN IT? Does it need a cap to keep out rain and wind?
Dumb question but why do you have to burn the enamel off the stove before you use it? Great videos 👍
It's more like residue from the manufacturing process. True of ALL "new" wood stoves.
Why do they paint it if you need to burn it off before use?
Does it burn the same in the tent with different airflow?
HELLOO SEEXXXY IT'S MEEE WHAT CHA DOIIING ?? filming. Bug off
What camera did you use in these older videos? The quality is still great.
IPhone 4s.
does the door seal well ? is this safe to use Inside a small garage/workshop ?
Always a good idea to keep a carbon monoxide detector handy.
Isn't the spark arrestor at the top of the flue actually touching the tree up there?
Where will this fit on my bikepacking setup?
Are you able to have it burn all night. Or do you have to get up in the evening to put more wood in?
They start cooling down in 3 or 4 hours.
Is that a 3 inch pipe and do you need screws to hold the pipes in place?
Pre step two
Hey Steve where can you get this stove?
I have this stove but I can’t get the stove pipe to stand up by itself, the very top pipe won’t go on (too big) and I can’t get the spark arrester to go on the very top pipe - I had to put the arrester on the 2nd to last pipe.
Did you throw all the pieces on the ground 1st? 👍😹
FunnyStrange Actually, no, lol. It amazes me his worked so darn well after his gentle treatment
the first rule you must obey when burning wood, is a large diameter stack. This stove has that.
Bang slam bang chircke bang, damn it ! Lol
