OMG - this video is GOLD. I got Verizon Home LTE about 6-8 weeks ago and immediately connected it to my existing network using passthrough. It worked okay, but I had off and on connectivity issues and even worse - DNS issues. While browsing on my Apple computers, I would get frequent DNS (sites not loading or not found) issues. It was driving me crazy. After following Nater Tater's advice, my internet is now working great. Thank you! BTW - I have an "ASK" device. So the UI was different. But I eventually figured out how to turn off DHCP after reseting the router from passthrough mode.
Just wanted to say that your are an absolute goat for this. Only video I found with valid information on the pass through issue as well as 3rd party router speed issue. My RT-AX82U now works seamlessly for heavy task like gaming and streaming with no hitches. Verizon should make this public knowledge but Im happy you did. Cheers🤙🏽
So much goodness came out when I turned off the DHCP on the Verizon router I was going so fast felt like a flying carpet!! Thank you for the tip the speed really increased when I did this.
I'm using Verizon Home Internet with an ASUS AI Mesh system. Something I did was a ping test to determine optimal MTU Size. Anything over 1428 and my packets were fragmented, so I set my WAN MTU setting (Merlin Software) of my ASUS to 1428 and things are running very quick & smooth
I would like to add that I noticed with the ASKEY Verizon cube that it does get very warm with the WIFI on, but also the cellular radio adds to that heat. I noticed when these boxes get a bit too warm it will cause them to reset or glitch out. This is why I want to well basically do what you did and have a secondary router handle all of the processing. I will follow some of the steps from your video, thank you for posting this for people with the ASKEY verizon cube.
The web interface for the Verizon 5G Home Internet has apparently changed since you did this video. I set my Netgear router up with the Verizon gateway over a year ago using your video and it has worked flawlessly. I was getting the same speeds connecting to my Netgear router as I was getting connnecting to the Verizon gateway until recently. Now, I am only getting about 30-50 Mbps whether connecting wirelessly or with Ethernet connected to my Netgear router. I have an Apple TV connected by Ethernet directly to the Verizon gateway and it gets speeds of 200-300 Mbps. I have a second Apple TV connected by Ethernet with the Netgear router and it now only gets 30-50 Mbps. It used to get 200-300Mbps. I have tried using the other LAN connector on the Verizon gateway but that didn’t help. I also connected a Linksys router just to be sure it wasn’t a problem with the Netgear router but that didn’t help either. I’m bumfuddled!
Did you follow all the steps just curious if it really works all way through. i got a eero 6+ mesh router/extender setup and want to make sure i set ip everything without issue.
Thanks so much for this... The newer Verizon Internet Gateway (FSNO21VA) router has an option to amiable IP Passthrough with a single click. It will disable Wifi, DHCP etc. I am using a Sonicwall TZ470 Router. For the Network Connection Interface for the Verzion WAN, I had to select DHCP instead of a Static IP from the Verizon for it to work.
After spending about a day proving to myself that the ASK-NCQ1338 will under no circumstances support multiple RTSP camera streams, it took me about a minute to put it in IP passthrough mode and get a real router working. That's probably the only easy task I've ever had with this infernal cube.
@@NaterTater can you do 1 on the version gstewsy to connect to the tplink Deco xe75 mesh router system it’s a duel setup but both routers are the exact same
thanks a bunch for the video NT. I had recently got an asus router and was experiencing disconnects every so often along with slower speeds. I didn't expect both of my issues to be addressed in this video but I'm so happy they were. keep up the amazing work :)
My ASK router web app is a little different. Looks the same but once i get to passthrough , DHCP or DMZ part of video i cant seem to follow or find the settings you are showing. My Verizon has been awesome up to about 2 weeks ago. Devices dropping off from Verizon box and my extended Asus wifi router in my basement. I mainly am using the Asus device to reach my back corner of my basement. Verizon sending me a new 5G box to see if it will help my issue. My box is 2 years old and i am told its an older version of code and they cant update it through internet. Thanks for your videos, they are great.
Excellent explanation and a fantastic video. I learned more from your video in fifteen minutes than I did scouring the Internet for hours on this subject. So thanks! Question, if I want to use the same Asus router and Verizon 5g internet gateway as shown in the video, how do I set it up so I can use the Verizon 5g gateway as a wifi router for the house and the Asus for my garage 100ft away. I have cat6 between the two locations. Thanks in advance for any information you can pass on.
You could do that but I'd suggest getting a 2nd Asus router instead and run a AiMesh setup that would allow seamless wifi switching for your devices. Meaning they would connect to the house or barn automatically and switch back and forth based on which has better signal. Here's how you'd add a router to your barn after following this video to add the first Asus. ruclips.net/video/5kse94JM0IA/видео.html
HI Nate, THANK YOU! I was having the same speed issues using IP passthrough on an Inseego 5g M3200. With your help, I've managed to hook the M3200 to my router, and now getting fast 5g speeds. Thanks again!
Are these settings also ok for gaming purposes? I have 2 series X that have 400+ ping spikes. But only started recently. Any tips? I have a nighthawk ax3000 but I’ve never tried this.
Thank you so much for this video! You had no idea lol I almost return the V gateway :P It works great now, thanks a lot for details step by step. I have the tp link mesh system, the speed is not as good as before (with spectrum), but def better than using V gateway as router. I wish I can show you the speed test screenshots. Anyway, thank you again :) and Happy New Year!
Great video and instructions. I was about to return the Verizon Gateway because I thought it would not work with my Netgear Nighthawk router. Is your Asus router connected via wired to the Verizon Gateway?
@Nater Tater Thanks again for your response. Really appreciate you taking the time to help out the community. Will follow your instructions once the Verizon Gateway arrives in 2 days.
Hi @ natertater can you do an updated video? The current layout on the Verizon gateway settings is totally different from the current video you have uploaded. I am currently using the AsK version of the gateway with my TP-Link deco mesh routers but I am having no luck getting it to work together. Please advise.
I have the same setup and cannot get the recommended settings Nate provided to work. I think maybe there is a setting conflicting on the deco side but not for sure. Could be user error too 🤷🏻♂️
@@NaterTater Going for it Nate. If I want to take my Gateway with me on the road, how do I roll back the changes? Just Turn off DMZ, turn on DHCP and turn on the WiFi Radios on the Verizon Gateway? Is there anything else I need to do? Seems like most of the changes take place on the Router Side. I'm using a Netgear AX1800 WiFi Router and so far have changed the IP to static using an IP in the range the Gateway is expecting and input values for subnet mask and default gateway. I also added in my favorite DNS which is the main reason I'm doing this.
@@NaterTater Nate I was able to get it done in a round-about way using the GUI in the Beryl AX3000 WiFi 6 Router connected to the Verizon Arcaydia Gateway. All my Windows Computers have to connect via Ethernet only for some reason as the WiFi icon has an "x" with a white circle, however, no big deal for me as I have a Chromebook, iPhone and Android Phone that have no issue connecting to the Beryl. I turned off the WiFi radios in the Verizon Gateway and am good to go using Quad9 DNS now. I think I'll use my Netgear AX1800 Router as a Repeater in the house. Thanks Again.
Great step by step guide. I really appreciate it. One question I did have however was how to get my router to recognize IPV6 coming from Verizon. I am using a Netgear ORBI RBR50 with the ASK-NCQ1338 you describe in the video. Internet is coming through just fine but I can't get IPV6. Any comments would be appreciated.
Hi Nater, Thanks for the great info, I'm trying to configure my verizon internet to get speeds that its advertised to. Currently its running around 25-35 mbps and its such a bummer. If I utilize the setting you mentioned (disabling DHCP), along with my own router, would I be able to achieve higher speeds? Or am I essentially capped at what I'm currently getting?
If you're trying to game I Highly suggest using a router with good SQM bufferbloat control before I used TMobile built in router and got disconnected all the time from tarkov, when I added the eero pro I rarely disconnect and ping is much more stable and much better loaded dl and ul ping
I have your same router and Verizon gateway. In addition I have a QNAP NAS and have not been able to get OpenVPN to work, thinking my issue is the Verizon gateway not forwarding my port. Appears to be blocked. Sounds like if I follow your Passthrough recommendation it will work. Do I need any additional firewalls other than the ASUS and QNAP to protect my device? I'm thinking VPN with Port Forward of an unusual port and very strong passwords will do. By the way, this is by far the best instructional video I've seen, and I've watched lots of them. Thanks you! I'm going to subscribe.
wow, I had a QNAP NAS prior too! I'm now NAS-less though. Your ASUS and QNAP have firewall features so I'd just make sure those are active an you should be good to go! You might try just the Verizon DMZ setting to your ASUS and then let your ASUS do the port forwarding. If that doesn't work then go the full IP passthrough mode on the verizon gateway. The reason being is once you do IP Passthrough on the verizon it makes it a little more difficult to manage the verizon settings (it's IP will be one digit higher than your ASUS's WAN IP).
Hello Nate, I watching this video and I have a question. I have the latest T-Mobile Internet Gateway the Sagecon Fast but it does not allow us to turn off DHCP on the Gateway as in the Verizon one that you are using in the video. So they question is, Do I setup my Linksys Mesh Router (MX4500 model) as Static IP as you have shown in the video with your ASUS Router? Do I turn on DMZ on my Linksys router since this is not an option on the T-Mobile Gateway?
Do you still recommend doing IP passthrough a few months later? I did try IP passthrough with my Deco with DHCP off and the settings you suggested, and it made the gateway interface inaccessible. I had to factory reset it. It works without it on though.
@@AllGood_2024 I had to just run it the way Nater Tater has it. Passthrough does not work at all with DHCP off-at least not with the Deco. All other settings (Static IP, DMZ etc.) worked
I have an asus ax82u and i’ve been using ip passthrough the past week, only had Verizon 5g home for a week as well. Was the first thing I did as soon as I unboxed the Verizon 5g box, it’s an ASK and it’s been working flawlessly. No drops , no lag on my ps5 playing destiny 2 and a solid 280-318 mbps down and 7-14 mbps up. Steady 25-30 ping
I have an ask-ncq1338fa, firmware 222656. I turned on passthru and have an asus xt8/mesh behind the gateway. Works great!. The only thing available to configure when passthru is on is dhcp which I have off. Noise (jitter) on my devices decreased a fair amount - didn't expect that.
Thank you for your video. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions for assistance. I just set up my Verizon 5G Home Internet Gateway and I'm trying to do the Port Forwarding for my LTS Security System and IP Cameras. I went into the Advance Settings on the Verizon Gateway and attempted to set up Port Forwarding but had no success. I input my DVR iPv4 address for Port 80, Port 8000, and Port 8554 but it didn't work. Any suggestion? I was wondering if I buy a router and connect it into the Verizon Gateway, then plug my Ethernet cable for my LTS Security System into the new router, can I then go into the router and set the Port Forwarding up in the router bypassing the Verizon Gateway. Your thoughts? Thanks, Ken
Thanks Nate, I have a Nighthawk R7000 running FreshTomato. I managed to get this setup and running, but since FreshTomato is quite different from your routers UI I am not 100% sure that I did it correctly, although everything seems to work. Any tips would be great, or if you know of a guide for my exact combination of devices. Do you know if the Askey has its IP Passthrough working or not?
meh, if it works...it works right? The IP Passthrough does work now on the Verizon gateways but honestly if you dont NEED it, I would skip it. It makes it harder to log back into the gateway to change any settings or even see signal strength. Just use DMZ.
rgray. I have the Nighthawk R7000 too. I would like to keep using it. Can I merely plug a lan cable from the Verizon cube to my NIghthawk?? without all the fancy settings?
Hi Nate, if turning off dhdp on Verizon, will there be an issue for my Verizon set top boxes since the set top boxes are assigned an ip? Thanks for the video. I’m planing to get an asus because the wifi antennas are disappointing on the cr1100a.
you'll need your Asus router to have DHCP on then (it is by default) so there's something assigning IP address to devices on your network. You can set the Asus wifi SSID and password to the same as the current Verizon gateway if you wanted (and turn off wifi on the verizon gateway). Then all your devices would automatically connect to the Asus without changing settings.
Hi. not sure if you have answered this in any of your other videos or if you even have an answer to this question. i just recently got the verizon home internet a few months ago. it has worked great for what i need it for. but i am have a problem with it that not even verizon seems to know how to fix. every time i use streaming services i have issues with that streaming service not showing the correct location for me. it usually shows cities hours away from me. is this a wifi issue and if so can it be fixed?
Yes thats not uncommon with cellular internet. Its where your connection exits the Verizon network and to "the internet". One way you can change it is using a VPN with a server nearby (hopefully one close enough for your streaming services). Another option is calling the streaming service and explaining the issue.
This is really helpful. I was reading that it’s best to connect the ASKEY in an upstairs floor by a window, instead of on the main ground level floor. Any truth to that. Concern is it will be “harder” to get connectivity from upstairs to rec room in basement.
Yes typically you get better signal higher and by a window facing the tower but it can vary. And you might get enough signal on the 1st floor to not matter. I have mine on the 3rd floor and hooked up to a Asus AiMesh sytem to get wifi everywhere.
Thanks NT! I was a little nervous when I turned off the DHCP, but my router had no problem (after I put in DNS server addresses). One question, can I connect to the Verizon control login through my router, or do I have to do that through the other verizon port and with a static IP address set on my computer. I can get to it through it's wifi, but I plan to shut that off.
Hello nice video I recently got a Verizon home internet. I am using my own netger nighthawk. I wanted to know what is a good setup for gaming that I have to do for the Verizon gateway?
Another great video. I'm one of those that probably wouldn't benefit from hooking the Asus router back up. The ASK Verizon gateway seems to be doing OK. Strange thing though. I have A PBS Passport account which should allow me to watch local PBS programming in central Illinois. Ever since I hooked up the Verizon gateway, the app thinks I'm in Chicago which is 150 miles away. Because of this, I can't watch local PBS programming. Not using a VPN. Wondering if there's some sort of conflict going on that could be resolved by changing the Gateway's settings?
Unfortunately there arent settings to fix that. Its due to the fact that you exit the verizon network in Chicago thst PBS thinks you are located there. PBS can't "see" inside the verizon network to know where you are physically located. You can try contacting PBS and see if they can force a location. VPN can also work if there is one with a local server/host.
I cant really offer 1on1 tech support but if you bought from Chester he typically is good at helping setup. I do have several videos on what I have done with the Chester Cheetah and they have a blog with help/FAQ. chestertechrepairs.com/blogs/news
WAN port on my Asus router but you could use a LAN port and use it as a AP (or do AP mode and WAN). Lots of options, depends how you want it to function.
I got the Verizon 5G Home Internet and I was able to setup a TP Link Mesh router with it using the IP Passthrough (IP Passthrough seems to be working normally now). But before I got the router and the reason why I bought one was because while gaming this service sucks! In Apex Legends, with the closest server to me, my ping goes from 50-150+ ms which is insane! First, 50 is pretty high in a FPS game and second the fact that it fluctuates to 150+ (a ping you would get if you connected to Japan) makes it unplayable. Same thing happened with Valorant, Overwatch, etc. Adding a router made it a little more stable but didn't fix any of the issues. I don't know how to fix it but if you play any kind of competitive game, I do not recommend Verizon 5G at home until there is an actual stable way to play games.
wondering what adjustment i can make to my tplink deco m9 plus mesh and/or 5g home base (arc version) being used together. before, the mesh extended our prior hotspot signal & speed well through the house, but now when the mesh is coupled with the 5g home base, dl speeds are way down to 50ish on the other end of the house, instead of 300’ish when in the room with the equipment. it just isn’t broadcasting the speed very far. the deco is a foot away from the home base, with both being on one end of the house (best speed location). any ideas to help get the faster speed to travel throughout the 2000 sq ft house?
Can you do a video on setting up the Verizon home from your previous router that you’re mentioning in this video? Change your wifi SSID from your old WiFi to the new WiFi please!
Hello Nate, first I would like to say I have found your videos very informative. I wanted to ask about the IP passthrough glitch, I am not using a second router and my IP passthrough is off but I still experience the drop in internet connection multiple times a day. What I have noticed is when I one or more of my devices have been idle and then reconnects, it seems to cause ip conflicts and drops internet connection. I tried turning off ipv6, but I still experience the same issue. Have you experienced this issue at all, or have any suggestions?
it sounds like you may have competing DHCP servers (gateway and your router). try turning one of them off or changing the IP range so they dont overlap.
Thank you! -- This is really helpful. For a long time I have wanted to get a router with better management software than what comes on the Verizon gateway. Currently, I'd like to try an ASUS router to have the ability to measure the amount of traffic on individual devices. Attaching to the existing gateway looks like an option. However, during my travels on the internet, I came across MoCA adapters and I was wondering if any one here knows if it is feasible to get rid of the gateway entirely and replace it with a MoCA adapter?
A MoCA adapter cannot replace a gateway, the adapter simply "converts" ethernet to run over coax cable and then converts it back to ethernet in a different room of your house that the coax cable goes to. Here's some alternatives to extend the network: ruclips.net/video/BEA61OK6hmc/видео.html
I have the Askey Verizon cube router, I want to turn off the wifi in the Verizon cube because it causes it to get very warm. I just bought a D-link wifi router to hook to the Verizon modem so it can run all my wifi and LAN devices. Would I follow the same steps you did for this?
Great info, I used this video to set up my Eero Pro 6 and it has been running well. Any thoughts on the ping? I have experienced pings as low as 20ms and as high as 645ms with Verizon 5G home internet. Do you think it’s just a growing pain as the system continues to expand and it will get better or is this just something I will have to deal with having a 5G internet?
Some of it is growing pains but typically cellular is worse and less consistent then a hardline ISP. mmWave 5G offers promise with very quick ping but that's not feasible over a broad area.
@@NaterTater I was very optimistic based on the price ($35/month) but the ping is killing me, having only spectrum in my area, NE Ohio, I figured I would give it a try, love your videos and thanks for the insight.

Good Afternoon Nater Tater, I really appreciate your content. The 5g set up was such a big help.I had a question regarding the the pass-through to my router. Its a linksys MR7300 series, wifi 6. I have noticed that I showed connection, I get download speeds, but almost half of what the verizon receiver is showing when I check speeds on my router. Although sometimes the verizon app cannot show what my speeds are from the tower. There are times where load times take a bit longer on my desktop. My biggest concern would be devices not working properly, such as my IOT devices ( alexa home, wyze hub, wifi on my portable devices). They connect, but in the case of the IOT devices, they wont function properly, always cutting out or saying no internet. My Ethernet connection is stable. There was a 3 week period recently where everything worked with no issues. The this past week right back to issues I stated earlier. Hope you had a safe and happy holiday. Any help would be appreciated.
Nat - I have the new Version Business Internet Gateway, and I want to connect to my Peplink Max BR1 Pro 5G wifi/router. Can you do a detailed setup video for this setup? Thank you.....Terry
Terry, a couple options. One is to take the SIM card out and put it directly in the peplink (ruclips.net/video/mErn0bERoj0/видео.html) the other option is to just plug the verizon gateway into the wan port on the peplink and use it.
We have the Ask Verizon 5g box. Love the service however I am not by any means an IT guru. We about 20 smart devices that we would like to connect to the system in addition to our phones and watches and Alexa devices. We also need to extend this 5G internet to inside our pole barn that is about 400’ from our home. We would appreciate your suggestions as to how to best to all of us. I’m anticipating that we need an additional router and some other equipment. Very open to any suggestions you have.
Hi Marley, I use an Asus Aimesh setup with a few routers, see ruclips.net/video/hIKZzCkbXDY/видео.html If the gateway covers your house good enough and you only need to add the barn you could just do the point to point wifi bridge and a new router in the barn for wifi there (barn router plugged into p2p bridge which is plugged into the verizon gateway at the house). Here's just the p2p bridge ruclips.net/video/NBDgrmSoTPA/видео.html

Is there any way to configure the settings on the Verizon 5g Home Ultra wide router to get a better gaming experience? I noticed when playing Call of Duty there are skips in frame rate. Idk if that's an Activision thing or is it on my end.
I upgraded from Verizon LTE to Verizon 5G, I use eero MESH, I received a separate gateway but same model as LTE ARC-XCI55AX but I did not have the same setup options with page 192.168.... when I run speed tests with direct connect eero ethernet to gateway, they are double what I am getting on speed tests from a device. But I was satisfied for the most part, this was yesterday. This morning Eero was a fraction on speed test kbs ...any thoughts on what I might do? I disabled wifi on he gateway but that was pretty much all I could do. Thank you!
@@NaterTater ty you for your reply, setting in Bridge on eero I lose additional features. BUT, i reset everything and did this. I have the ARC Verizon 5G, it is 11/2023 and I have eero mesh system. I set up Verizon 5G and disabled wifi from the gateway. I plugged in my eero mesh system and for the last 24 hours things seem well. The discrepancy is in download speed, the eero wired is getting about 300 mbs whereas the wifi is about 160-210 depending on location. When I look at settings in Verizon gateway I notice there is a Bridge section and grayed out (but there is a check mark) are the wifi access points (5ghz; 2.4ghaz; & Ethernet), the status column says the wifi is disconnected but ethernet is connected. there is an IP passthrough option it too shows under status as 'connected' in green but it is not checked. Hi! Is bridge mode the same as IP Passthrough? I have the LVSKIHP wall mount version and on the interface accessed through browser there is a button "Enable Bridge Mode". I would like to connect my own router to this device because it has much better range. I'm not too savvy on networking but doing my best to research.
I was looking for any insights on connecting a Google Mesh Wifi router to the Verizon ARC 5G. I tried duplicating some of the settings described in the video on the ASK but have been unable to provide internet to the Google Mesh router.
Does this work with a Netgear Nighthawk cable modem/router combo? I have been having trouble trying to adjust the settings on both of these at the same time and can't get it to work.
Interesting about that IP passthrough glitch I have noticed sometimes the Verizon cube will reset at night but my eero pro just temporary disconnects then reconnects when Verizon boots up.. could be something other than the glitch you mentioned but I have no issues with ip passthrough tbh I usually reset the gateway once every other day because I noticed that speeds slow down sometimes and maybe I'm paranoid about de prioritization
Would this process be the same for the Asus ZenWifi AX Hybrid? I followed this video and all of the Asus settings appear to be the same, but when I do some speed tests via wifi and ethernet connection to the Asus router, I'm getting slower than expected speeds. Maybe it's just a fluke and that's just the internet at that time, but when I run the same speed test on my Verizon phone (which I would assume is connecting to the same cell tower as the 5G Gateway), I'm getting about double the speeds as what I get when connected to the router.
You cant compare the phone to the home internet speed. To see if the Asus is slowing you down connect directly to the Verizon gateway (via ethernet or wifi) and run a speed test.
There was a recent firmware update for the Verizon Home Gateway. I was wondering if the IP pass through bug was fixed. I’ve been using the DMZ feature that you point out in this video, but my connection has been freezing up ever since the update and I’m not sure why
Nate, I own or use the gateway from T-mobile, which you helped me use the script some months ago to take the wifi off. The problem I am having with that gateway is it doesn't play well with my router as a backup WAN. It's probably because of the lack of control the user has over the gateway with it being double NAT configured with my mesh router behind it. Does this ASK-NCQ1338 work ok as a backup WAN for you or are you just using it as a primary WAN? I have not been happy with T-Mobile's gateway instability and am going to be giving it back to them to try something with more control available, which this Verizon model appears to have. Regards..
My trial is almost up but this thing was a PITA to configure to avoid Double NAT - they intentionally made it difficult to find the Bridge/Passthrough settings in the newer webgui and they removed the field where even if you use them as a NAT Gateway you can't choose your own DNS! I eventually went with the following settings on the 5G with an Opnsense box attached: 5G: DMZ Enabled IP Passthrough Enabled Firewall Off entirely (note: be careful if you do this!) IPv6 Disabled Wifi Disabled LAN DHCP Off This makes it a dumb modem essentially and the light will turn green rather than white Opnsense (or whatever you're using for Layer 3/routing): Leave WAN port as DHCP - no need to set static like the video says but ymmv, maybe I wasn't connected at the time the IP changed so I didn't get my connection dropped Set up rest of LAN NAT/Firewall accordingly with your preferred Public DNS provider and etc. Run a speed test of course but also do a dns leak test to make sure Verizon isn't forcing their DNS. And also do a pathping or tracert command to any website to make sure you're not using Double NAT. The above config is what worked for me messing with it on and off for a few weeks and hopefully this helps someone else. I've worked with many soho routers and enterprise switches and this dumb 5G box gave me more trouble than anything else by far. TL;DR - Speeds are about 300mbps if configured right but 30-40ms ping/latency is not worth it when with cable I'm getting like 8-12ms
I have the AC1300 Asus Router. Do I need to reset it to factory default? Once connected as you show how is it shown on the network? Right now it’s seen as 2.4G:ASUS_A0_2G and the 5G. I have the cat cable plugged from a switch to a yellow port. I need to change that to the green port. I enjoy your videos.
Do you know if Verizon has fixed their gateway pass through feature? Obviously that would be a lot easier than doing all the things that you list here.
Hello Nate, thank you for your informative videos. I have the new T-Mobile Home Internet and I have connected a Linksys Velop XM4200 mess wifi system and I am having the Wi-Fi speed slow down. What can I do in the Lynksys router setting to correct this. I have not turned off the T-Mobile WiFI radio.
For the fastest speed make sure your device is connected to the 5Ghz band from your Velop. You can turn off the DHCP server (or set it to AP mode) on your Velop and let the tmobile gateway assign IP addresses. There are other things to try but those would be step 1.
@@NaterTater Hello Nate, I watching this video and I have a question. I the latest Tmobile Internet Gateway the Sagecon Fast but it does not allow us to turn off DHCP on the Gateway as in the verizon one that you are using in the video. So they question is, Do I setup my Linksys Mesh Router (MX4500 model) as Statis IP as you have shown in the video with your ASUS Router?
how do you access the router menu - you were showing your ASIS screens. Can I google the name of my router and add some keyword to get connected to the right website, or are you getting to those router settings/screens by using a Windows setting somewhere? hope that makes sense.
For an Asus router you can go to router.asus.com if you are connected to it. Otherwise you can try 192.168.0.1 or look on the sticker on the bottom of the router for login info.
I have Verizon Gateway ARC and need to extend the range wirelessly. I have Ubiquity AirCube AC and I am fine with having 2 SSIDs. Is it possible with these devices?
yes, ideally you disable the wifi on the ARC though and enable DMZ to your AirCube or do full ip passthrough to the AirCube. Those are all options on the ARC.
Hi Nate, I have the ARC-XCI55AX gateway, and a Nighthawk AX 2400-5. Will these instructions work for me, and which port do I use, LAN 1 or LAN 2. I am assuming it is LAN 2. Thanks.
Yes, same steps just different interface on Netgear. LAN2 on the cube is the only active port when in passthrough mode but either port works for just DMZ to your netgear.
Cool, thanks, so also if I change the SSID on the cube to my current SSID on the net gear, then the cube will pick up all the devices, and no changes will be required on the devices. Thanks
@Bradley Worch are you trying to do WAN over wifi? Meaning your netgear is connecting to the cube via wifi and rebroadcasting it? If so 30ft is doable but may reduce your speed depending on your ISP speed.
I have a eero Pro router. Is there something different I need to do to convert the Verizon 5G in to a Modem or do I basically follow the steps you walked us through. Thank you for your video!
Hi Nater: I have the newer ASC version of the Cube but am using the ASUS router. I have fallowed the steps, but I get no internet at the router. The light on the ASUS shows a connection to the Cube. I have tried resetting the Cube to factory settings and going through the steps again but still no outside world. I can ping boxes including the Cube on the ASUS router. The cube works as a standalone box just fine, so I know it is getting internet and works with Wifi. I have taken screenshots of the setup if that would help. Thank you for any help in this matter. @@vr6trooper dont change those. For your WAN connection type there should be a "DHCP" or "dynamic IP" than can be changed to "static IP". The only reason to do that though is if you turn off the DHCP server on the verizon gateway.

Thank you for posting this video. I have a question. I just got Verizon 5G Home Internet and received the Gateway Model WNC-CR200A. I have an Asus AX5400 and before I hooked it up, using the instructions provided by Verizon, I was getting around 300mbps wirelessly. Once I completed the steps and enabled IP Passthrough and hooked up my router, my speeds dropped to 75mbps and I just checked again and they are up to 175mbps, so almost 1/2 of the speeds without the router. Once I enabled IP Passthrough I noticed the bars on the Gateway go from 2 to 1. I'm wondering if verizon does this to incentivise you to use their equipment only. I would like to get the speed back up to 300 so I will have to give these steps a try, unless you suggest something else, since this video was made a year ago. What would be your advise? I will wait for a replay before messing with it. I got to work anyway. Happy Holidays!
@@NaterTater thank you. Ok. So I'll follow the video and see what happens. I will note all the changes I make in case something goes wrong, that way I can put it back to what it was. Speaking of, do you know if there is a way to reset to factory default settings, either on the Gateway or in the Admin page? Just in case I screw something up and can't get it back to default.
@@NaterTater I had one last question. Is there a way to access Verizon's gateway to modify settings after the router is connected? I haven't been able to find a way and internet searches haven't yielded any results.

Good to hear
Just wanted to say that your are an absolute goat for this. Only video I found with valid information on the pass through issue as well as 3rd party router speed issue. My RT-AX82U now works seamlessly for heavy task like gaming and streaming with no hitches. Verizon should make this public knowledge but Im happy you did. Cheers🤙🏽
Glad I helped!

Never had any heating issues with my cube, I know it has an onboard fan that kicks in I’d needed.
Thank you! Turned off the Verizon wifi to use my router for wifi and gained 100mbps! From 160 to 260!

Thanks you! wow, I had a QNAP NAS prior too!
I had to factory reset it.

meh, if it works...it works right? The IP Passthrough does work now on the Verizon gateways but honestly if you dont NEED it, I would skip it. It makes it harder to log back into the gateway to change any settings or even see signal strength. Just use DMZ.

Does it make the speed tests faster if you get a separate router??
depends. adding a router does not directly improve your ISP speed but it can improve how the wifi/network performs in your house.

Hi. not sure if you have answered this in any of your other videos or if you even have an answer to this question. i just recently got the verizon home internet a few months ago. it has worked great for what i need it for. but i am have a problem with it that not even verizon seems to know how to fix. every time i use streaming services i have issues with that streaming service not showing the correct location for me. it usually shows cities hours away from me. is this a wifi issue and if so can it be fixed?
Yes thats not uncommon with cellular internet. Its where your connection exits the Verizon network and to "the internet". One way you can change it is using a VPN with a server nearby (hopefully one close enough for your streaming services). Another option is calling the streaming service and explaining the issue.
You really rock, I was just looking for a video like this.
Yes, with IP passthrough the verizon gateway IP should be one digit higher than your router's WAN IP.
Hello nice video I recently got a Verizon home internet. I am using my own netger nighthawk. I wanted to know what is a good setup for gaming that I have to do for the Verizon gateway?
Thanks for the great video! Has Verizon updated their IP Passthrough since this video was made? You said the IP Passthrough function had some bugs.
yes, they keep releasing firmware updates for fixes

Do you have your own router plugged into the wan or lan port?
Thanks, I was able to set up my wireless router with your recommendations!!!

I dont yet. I need to get my hands on that new gateway!
whats the problem with IP passthrough again? Is there a VRZ article ?
hi i was wondering will your set up work with pfsense
Yes
do you know if we need to have the verizon white gateway device? is it possible to not have this device at all and just use our own router?
Does adding your router improve anything ?

Yes
Hi Nate:
I have the new ASC version of the Verizon cube and am having trouble setting up my Asus AC2900 router. Have you created a video on the ASC version? I have fallowed the video for the ASK box but am not getting any internet.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

No, sorry
Ive read a lot of updated post saying the you cant use your own router with the new verizon 2024 cube
Is there any way to configure the settings on the Verizon 5g Home Ultra wide router to get a better gaming experience? I noticed when playing Call of Duty there are skips in frame rate. Idk if that's an Activision thing or is it on my end.
Mimicking what I do in this video should help
I upgraded from Verizon LTE to Verizon 5G, I use eero MESH, I received a separate gateway but same model as LTE ARC-XCI55AX but I did not have the same setup options with page 192.168.... when I run speed tests with direct connect eero ethernet to gateway, they are double what I am getting on speed tests from a device. But I was satisfied for the most part, this was yesterday. This morning Eero was a fraction on speed test kbs ...any thoughts on what I might do? I disabled wifi on he gateway but that was pretty much all I could do. Thank you!
You can try setting your eero to "AP" or "Bridge" mode.
Do you think this means my ip passthrough is on (just not checked)? Here is a link to the image I see, just note that the ip passthrough isn't checked in MY settings www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-301824/ Thank you!!
Hi! Is bridge mode the same as IP Passthrough? I have the LVSKIHP wall mount version and on the interface accessed through browser there is a button "Enable Bridge Mode". I would like to connect my own router to this device because it has much better range. I'm not too savvy on networking but doing my best to research.
Yes typically they are the same.
@@NaterTater Thank you for the fast reply!
I have been having trouble trying to adjust the settings on both of these at the same time and can't get it to work.
what's the model number? if its a modem designed to work with your cable then it might not work.
@@NaterTater Okay I ran some different tests via Ethernet connection and they seem to be falling in the same range. Thanks for the help!
Hi Nate! I’ve had a ton of issues with my router. Getting 10-15 mbps download and 2 upload. Same model, ask-ncq1338fa. Any idea what to do about it?
are you just using the verizon cube or did you add you own router? What cellular signal do you get?
I can't get my NAT type past strict. Any suggestions? I had the t mobile unit before. Love your content
are you on verion now? if so if you do dmz to your router and turn off the dhcp server on the Verizon gateway you should be able to get moderate NAT.
Ok I don't have a router yet. Any suggestions? I'm just rocking the white cube on strict Nat life haha
@@NaterTater hey thanks for the tip. Took a minute to figure out but my Nat is now open for just my Xbox. Thanks!
There was a recent firmware update for the Verizon Home Gateway. I was wondering if the IP pass through bug was fixed. I’ve been using the DMZ feature that you point out in this video, but my connection has been freezing up ever since the update and I’m not sure why
I haven't had that issue but it sure is annoying when they break thing that were working fine! Let me know if you see a trend/root cause.
Regards..
yes the Verizon works well for all you mentioned
My trial is almost up but this thing was a PITA to configure to avoid Double NAT - they intentionally made it difficult to find the Bridge/Passthrough settings in the newer webgui and they removed the field where even if you use them as a NAT Gateway you can't choose your own DNS!
I eventually went with the following settings on the 5G with an Opnsense box attached:
5G:
DMZ Enabled
IP Passthrough Enabled
Firewall Off entirely (note: be careful if you do this!)
IPv6 Disabled
Wifi Disabled
LAN DHCP Off
This makes it a dumb modem essentially and the light will turn green rather than white
Opnsense (or whatever you're using for Layer 3/routing):
Leave WAN port as DHCP - no need to set static like the video says but ymmv, maybe I wasn't connected at the time the IP changed so I didn't get my connection dropped
Set up rest of LAN NAT/Firewall accordingly with your preferred Public DNS provider and etc.
I live in a 3 story condo. I will definitely need to link it to my tp link deco mesh system.
yes!
Once connected your Asus wifi names will remain the same and you'd connect to them like normal. Hope that answers your question.
Do you know if Verizon has fixed their gateway pass through feature? Obviously that would be a lot easier than doing all the things that you list here.
Yes, supposedly they have. I still don't recommend that though. More issue prone and harder to get back into the gateway.
@@NaterTater Do I set the linksys Velop router that is connected to the Tmobile Sagecom Gateway from DHCP to Static IP?
@Carlos Roman no thats the WAN settings. Turn off DHCP server in the LAN settings or change the Velop to AP mode.
@@NaterTater Hello Nate, I watching this video and I have a question. I the latest Tmobile Internet Gateway the Sagecon Fast but it does not allow us to turn off DHCP on the Gateway as in the verizon one that you are using in the video. @Carlos Roman no thats the WAN settings. Turn off DHCP server in the LAN settings or change the Velop to AP mode.
how do you access the router menu - you were showing your ASIS screens.
Thanks
Listened again and you answered the last question. Thanks
Hate to keep bugging you, but do you think if I had cube and my router about 30 feet apart, would I get the quality of internet speeds.
Thank you for your video!
follow these steps. I personally would try the verizon without the IP Passthrough first and see if it meets your needs before turning it on.
Hi Nater:
I have the newer ASC version of the Cube but am using the ASUS router. I have fallowed the steps, but I get no internet at the router. The light on the ASUS shows a connection to the Cube. I have tried resetting the Cube to factory settings and going through the steps again but still no outside world. I can ping boxes including the Cube on the ASUS router.
Yes give DMZ a try instead of IPPT. Also make sure you didnt move (even rotation) the gateway to cause the verizon signal drop.
@@NaterTater thank you. Ok. So I'll follow the video and see what happens.
