    Great video.Very well explained. I have the T Mobil business 5G gateway. I also have a left over Arris sim gateway I had with Verizon. The old gateway seemed to be superior to the T Mobil. I am toying with the settings to see if I can use it as a wi-fi range extender . I would love to see an in depth screen of you going through the menu breaking down the settings while sharing your screen.
    I am curious if I could "clone" my t Mobil router with the Arris?

      First off have you tried the home internet with the booster off? For your varied speed in your house that sounds like it is due to your wifi and a mesh setup would help with that. A Cheetah would help get you faster speed close to the router but if you have dead wifi zone in the house those would likely still exist.

      I've had overall good luck with the newest Sagemcom Fast 5688W Gateway, I turned off the 2.4Ghz Wifi and just left the 5G Wifi for troubleshooting, and then I use a TP-Link Deco X20 4 base mesh WiFi setup as the WiFi on the Sagemcom router is a bit weak for a medium to larger size home, even a single story home like mine. I'm in SC near the border of GA, and I'm seeing on average without modding it for external antennas 400Mbps - 600Mbps + down/50Mbps - 150Mbps+ Up with latency between 16ms - 60ms but it's not perfect as I've had a few rare times it's gone next to nothing, but it's not running hot as the clear window it's facing out of has a vent register under it keeping the temp regulated as checked with my thermal gun.

    It’s utterly senseless that the gateways have LAN ports which users are most likely to connect alternative wifi hardware to, yet no convenient software switch to turn off the gateway’s wifi. Just reinforces my belief that T-Mo intended their service for single-occupancy, small dwellings.

    I found this video and by shutting off the wireless in my Gateway and adding the ASUS Zenwi AX mesh system my speed jumped immediately. All was well for two weeks when suddenly my speeds couldn't get above 90 Mbps. I connected via ethernet to the gateway and would see speeds around 275 Mbps but through the ASUS - only 90s. I disconnected the mesh system, turned on the wireless in the gateway and was back to 275 Mbps. I can't figure out what is going on. I've reset the ASUS to factory defaults, but nothing changed - still around 90 rather than the 300+ Mbps i saw the first two weeks. Any thoughts on what might be happening?

(I hadn't thought about using the Orbi router in place of the TMHI's built-in device by disabling the wifi as you share in this video, mainly because I figured I could extend the network easier without a network cable between the RBR20 and the TMHI router.) I was able to set the RBR20 as an access point on the 2.4 Ghz channel while the cable is plugged in to the TMHI router and the RBS20 would connect, but I couldn't find a way on the Netgear/ORBI interface to change the 5 Ghz channel to be an Access Point. Any thoughts? Should I not bother and just let my 5 Ghz devices (usually our phones/Chromebook) connect via the TMHI wifi router signal?

Using a WiFi analyzer, the superimposed channel is usually about the same amplitude but sometimes a bit lower or higher in amplitude than the active channel. The superimposed channel appears and disappears but is present more than half of the time. I'm sure the superimposed channel is being transmitted from the T-Mobile Gateway, because it gets stronger the closer I get to the gateway. As an example, the active channel could be ch 2 in the 2.4G band. I had T-Mobile send me a replacement gateway and it does the same thing. I talked to T-Mobile customer service twice, but they didn't know what I was talking about. I haven't found any information on the internet regarding this. Maybe it's some kind of normal function, but it seems like it could be causing some interference. Thanks, Brian

    Ok. the problem I am having is the dynamic Ip. Some of the banks in my area do not support Dynamic Ip addresses. I talked to T-Mobile about the problem, they said I needed to set up either a router or an extender because either one would give me a static Ip and should fix the problem. If I understood you correctly. You said that it won't work. If I am misunderstanding, please explain how if works.

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  10 месяцев назад +1

      There are two main types of IP, WAN and LAN. WAN is internet/public facing and LAN is local to your house. I had some issues at the beginning of using TMHI from some financial website that wanted some additional verification to "prevent fraud" that was likely tied to the way tmobile does WAN IP addresses. After verifying a few times i didnt have an issue again. I've never heard of a bank not allowing a "dynamic IP" but I have seen extra verification steps. A router wont address that.

    • @muzicman2007
      @muzicman2007 10 месяцев назад

      @@NaterTater That's Kinda what i thought too. May I ask what kind of verification you did? that way I can go to the bank and show them what I have. The bank I am wanting to switch to, their system will not recognize dynamic ips for some reason. I tried to open an account with them last year and was not able to log into my account because they could not verify where the Ip address was coming from. if I can get the problem resolved I would move to that bank.

Is there an easy way to turn off the wifi on the Tmobile gateway, so that it is only receiving the cellular signal to provide an internet connection to the netgear router? Right now a family member has both a netgear router and a tmobile gateway connected via ethernet. On any device in their house, it shows up that there are four different internet connections to connect to (a 2.5 Ghz and 5 Ghz for each device). This gets rather confusing (trying to know what to connect to for the best performance speed). Also, would it possibly make the netgear router's internet connection any faster, not having any interference from the Tmobile gateway's wifi signal? I'm trying to figure out a way to help get their connection to be more consistent/stable for them.

    I have T-Mobile Home Internet and it's been great I also just got the New Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6E Mesh System but I'm wondering if there's any way I could get faster Speeds on my Nest Wi-Fi Point that's Downstairs? I have the main Nest Wi-Fi Router Upstairs connected directly to the T-Mobile Modem and I can't move the T-Mobile Modem because it gets the best Signal and Speeds being connected Upstairs. Would it be possible for me to run an Ethernet Cable from the main Nest Wi-Fi Router to the Nest Wi-Fi Point Downstairs to get around the same Speeds as I get Upstairs? Or would I have to run a long Ethernet Cable from the main T-Mobile Modem to the Downstairs Nest Wi-Fi Point? The T-Mobile Home Internet Modem has two Ethernet Ports and I'm using the one Port for the main Nest Wi-Fi Router that's Upstairs so that leaves another Ethernet Port open on the T-Mobile Home Internet Gateway so would it be possible to use that open Ethernet Port on the T-Mobile Home Internet Gateway for the Downstairs Nest Wi-Fi Point? Would it act as two Routers if I did that? Or would the Speeds be slower? I'm basically trying to get the same Speeds that I get Upstairs from the main Nest Wi-Fi Router on the Downstairs Nest Wi-Fi Point.

      yes, wired backhaul from your downstairs node to the main Nest would be what you want to do.

      @@NaterTater Oh ok thanks I have a 5 Port Ethernet Switch connected to the other Ethernet Port on the Main Nest Router and no open Ports available on the Switch. Would I be able to plug the Switch into the open Ethernet Port on the T-Mobile Gateway and still get Internet to my Devices connected to the Switch that way?

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  Год назад +1

      @joshf_151_tech yes and depending how your nest are setup your switch might be a different network. If so the switch devices would have internet access but not direct access to devices connected to the nest system. You could spend $20 and get a bigger switch though amzn.to/47mQrkp

      @@NaterTater Oh ok I have it setup as a Wired Backhaul and my Speeds Downstairs are much faster especially on Wi-Fi but I've noticed that my Ethernet Speeds aren't as fast Upstairs is that do to me having the Ethernet Cable plugged into the second Ethernet Port on the T-Mobile Home Internet Gateway? Is the second Ethernet Port on the T-Mobile Gateway slower? If so could I get a Switch and plugin everything Upstairs to the main Nest Wi-Fi Router and get my Ethernet Speeds faster that way?
