  • Verizon 5G Home Internet released a new gateway in late 2023, the WNC-CR200A. Let's go through the differences and all the advanced settings you can change in the webui. This one has some significant improvements over the older white cube gateways, namely in the wifi dept and front LED indicators. Lets compare the two gateways, the ARC-XCI55AX vs ASK-NCQ1338.

    I just received and set up the ASK Model. I kept my existing router because it had all my settings and port forwarding set up, so I set it up for PassThrough. The light turns green for PassThrough. I didn’t want to spend any time setting the ASK up. I bought the Plus plan and I get about 300 mbs down and 50 up. Overall, Im pleased, especially with the savings. $45 instead of $99 with my cable company. If you have a security system and central station, you must cut the firewall to minimum or it will not communicate.

  • @benji888578
    @benji888578 2 месяца назад

    Thanks for this video, I do not have the new gateway, I have the ASK, and I haven't gone into the settings for like a year, the firmware has been updated and this is what it looks/functions like now, minus the extra features of the new gateway. ...I've had the t-mo and Verizon, and was using the t-mo primarily because Verizon didn't have 5G yet here and so I set it up my router in bridge mode with the V unit, long story short, and now that I'm getting consistent results with the Verizon HI I've unplugged the t-mo and want to go all out with the Verizon gateway, I am a little confused best way to set it up with the new firmware so that the router is doing as much work as possible to keep the gateway doing the least it needs to do to keep it running smooth (and cool), I have the wifi turned off, and the radios turned off. Now I have the ip for the router and, as I said, it's in bridge mode, so, I'm trying to think how to best to set it all up, you mentioned the new DMZ settings, and I'm just a bit overloaded after watching the go through of all the settings. (I tried watching the how to set up a router vid, but, since the firmware is nothing like that anymore, I got slightly confused what to do). ...I'm about to rewatch the router vid, but, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Will this be for people who get a top tier plan or depending where you live?
    I also have the arc version of the modem with the e-sim will it be better to get a signal booster or external antenna for me. I live in rural area and the tower shows that it’s in the next town over from what Verizon app showed and also the website showed.

    • @NaterTater

      An external antenna will help more than a booster. The gateway selected is a combo of availability and the service you have at the address.

    Hey Nate, After using Wireshark and logging into the Unify UDM SE via ssh and viewing the ports I discover DHCP v6 is broken. I configure the Cr200a gateway for stateless mode for IPV6 and then into passthru mode. I then set the UDM internet port to single network and slack for IPv6. This should work for Ask, ARC ect. Hope this helps those that don't want to double nat ipV4. Other than Verizon enablig DHCP V6 and giving us a /56 "i would not hold my breath" this should work with other devices llike OPsense or other routers that allow these setting. Spent a day figurung this out.
    Cheers

    @Nater Tater - great info. I just ordered V Home Plus. Yesterday I received the older cube in your vide. I would have thought V would send me the new/latest CR200A gateway you demo'd (better WiFi as I have a big 3600 sq foot/2 story home.) Q: Did you say the new one gateway is limited to 100 down and 10 up - load speeds vs the white cube 300 down and 20 up and above? I know with the Home "Plus" they quoted me and I purchased (more expensive Service w Plus) 300 down loads / 20 up - were quoted min here in Central Texas. Thank you? (Was wondering if they are dumping the older versions now till all old stock is depleted)? "I don't go to Verizon and expect to receive an older phone shipped , when I make a purchase".

    I received the new Verizon router about 3 months ago. I ended up opening it up and adding external antennas to the router. I'm not sure if I connected the external antenna to the right ports. I tried them all in different orders until I got the best signal. I was getting 20 to 30 up speed now I get 250 to 300 pretty consistently. I am excited to see what you find out when opening the router up. I did not find a SIM card inside. Also, there are little torx screws on the bottom that you need a long skinny torx screwdriver for. Anyone seeing any issues with the distance of their antenna causing signal degradation for the modem itself? I've read that the closer the device (shortest cable) to the antenna, the better.
    Whats the average fall off of signal after a certain point, does anyone know?

    What bands does the box use to connect to the cell tower? According to the Verizon website, I am not eligible for the home 5G Internet, but when I look at a cell tower map there's a 5g tower just a few blocks away broadcasting bands 2, 5, 13, and 66. Can the box connect to those bands and if so why can't I use that tower?
    Additional question: Are any of those C bands? And what about the signal being broadcast in the home, do you know what bands those are or is it Wi-Fi 6?

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  3 месяца назад +1

      It connects to those cell bands but verizon provides availability based on network capacity not signal. Verizoj c-band is n77. It sends wifi 6 out in the house, it does not transmit cellular in the house.

    so, I'm trying to set up my own router to do the DHCP and I am having Double NAT issue. In this video you skipped the DNS Server settings. But, anyway, so after watching the using your own router with Verizon HI video, which had the old firmware, I turned off the DHCP server by going to network connections/network server/settings/ and IP Address Distribution, changed from DHCP to disable and that isn't enough, I still have double NAT error on my router. I have it set to a static IP and have DMZ set to the router for 4 & 6. What am I missing? The gateway says it's in "Bridge" mode. I did not change the IP Passthrough, it is not turned on, this is the only thing I can think of. (wifi and radios are turned off already in the gateway.) ...wait, do I need to change the wired connection to the router from LAN port 2 on the gateway? I'm going to try that.

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  Месяц назад

      OK, lots going on here. First, it sounds like you might have DNS and DHCP/NAT mixed up somewhat. If the V gateway has DHCP enabled then that is a NAT layer. But if you don't have DHCP enabled then your router won't get an IP address and you'll have to assign one. Or you can use thr V gateway ip passthrough. But...what is your objective?

    Awe man, I wouldn't mind getting that grey box but we moved locations and according to the Verizon site, our new address doesn't qualify for the 5g wifi. Ironically, I'm still using our 5g wifi router and it gets a better signal than where we were before. I'm wondering how to get my hands on this without having to speak to a rep and they find out we aren't in the previous location and shut down the internet access....lol.

    • @MrSimpleme1
      @MrSimpleme1 2 месяца назад

      I just tried getting the Grey tower, they told me I only qualify for the white cube and there was no way of getting the grey one. It goes off a system that tells them which one to give to us depending on our location. So maybe telling them a different address might work…

      I also couldn’t get the FIOS 5G at my location, I did some research and found a post on Reddit someone used a random address, closest to them that gets this service and it worked. I tried it and worked like a charm 👍🏼. Verizon gave me a choice of in store pick up and delivery. (I picked in store pick up) They even let me choose a delivery address. Hope that helps! 😊
