Thanks for this video, I do not have the new gateway, I have the ASK, and I haven't gone into the settings for like a year, the firmware has been updated and this is what it looks/functions like now, minus the extra features of the new gateway. ...I've had the t-mo and Verizon, and was using the t-mo primarily because Verizon didn't have 5G yet here and so I set it up my router in bridge mode with the V unit, long story short, and now that I'm getting consistent results with the Verizon HI I've unplugged the t-mo and want to go all out with the Verizon gateway, I am a little confused best way to set it up with the new firmware so that the router is doing as much work as possible to keep the gateway doing the least it needs to do to keep it running smooth (and cool), I have the wifi turned off, and the radios turned off. Now I have the ip for the router and, as I said, it's in bridge mode, so, I'm trying to think how to best to set it all up, you mentioned the new DMZ settings, and I'm just a bit overloaded after watching the go through of all the settings. (I tried watching the how to set up a router vid, but, since the firmware is nothing like that anymore, I got slightly confused what to do). ...I'm about to rewatch the router vid, but, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the update nate! Do you think its worth contacting verizon for an upgrade to the new unit using LTE? My area doesn't have 5G but the verizon rep got me hooked up on the 5G plan.
Hi Nate, I have the NCM1100E Verizon Internet Gateway for Business and it comes with 4 paddle antennas. I can't find anywhere in the documentation that explicitly says that the paddle antennas are for Wifi or for 5G cellular. I want to connect a waveform external antenna for 5G but I don't know if i can connect it directly to those ports or if I need to do that internally.
Hi Nate I read that the default IoT network on some Verizon routers on this SSID have full access to your network. Basically only useful for grouping up your devices in the dashboard, it doesnt acuallly seperate the less secure IoT devices from your primary network. Is this the case with this new router too?
www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-303332/ it appears so. I handle my device with my own wifi mesh setup so I don't use Verizon's. However most home routers have the option for "AP isolation" which puts a firewall up between the IoT network and your main network.
@NaterTater it seems like the same thing as the one that you reviewed here, except the ports are all on the back of the unit instead of the bottom which is nice since it's easier to plug into.
@Nater Tater - great info. I just ordered V Home Plus. Yesterday I received the older cube in your vide. I would have thought V would send me the new/latest CR200A gateway you demo'd (better WiFi as I have a big 3600 sq foot/2 story home.) Q: Did you say the new one gateway is limited to 100 down and 10 up - load speeds vs the white cube 300 down and 20 up and above? I know with the Home "Plus" they quoted me and I purchased (more expensive Service w Plus) 300 down loads / 20 up - were quoted min here in Central Texas. Thank you? (Was wondering if they are dumping the older versions now till all old stock is depleted)? "I don't go to Verizon and expect to receive an older phone shipped , when I make a purchase".
All the carriers offer multiple gateways and you often dont get to pick. The plan you are on is what affects your speed, the gray and white gateways can get the same speed.
Does the Guest Network limit the connected users speed? I don't see a QoS setting either, does this mean the guest does not use QoS? Reason I ask is i'm troubleshooting a Packet Loss and Latency issue and wanting to know if the moving the other devices to the guest may help if I move them to the guest.
I haven't seen that but I do use my own tp-link omada setup (ruclips.net/video/34NZwJh4N84/видео.html) and it certainly has those capabilities. Have you confirmed that the packet loss is in your wifi/LAN and not your cellular/ WAN?
@@NaterTater I had them replace the 5G router. I don't know if its my network or the cellular network. They did replace my cube with the newer model even though I do not have the Hi-band. I know its not my hardwired laptop because it didn't occur when i connected to my phone hot spot and tested. I know I can shut down my wifi network and test the cellular network while gaming. That will be my next test i guess. But, it still could be the cellular network.
I activated in December and they sent me the arc, there was no option for the new grey one even though I activated with the highest tier plan. I was hoping they would change it to the grey one even though at activation it showed the arc. It’s weird that on the website it lists this new grey one as being mmwave capable but the fcc docs and others have reported it doesn’t actually switch over to mmwave. At least the free wifi extender they offered and sent has wifi 6 since it’s the same extender they use for fios.
@@NaterTater can’t find the specific link right now but in the comparisons page on Verizon it specifically said the WNC-CR200A was capable of mmwave. They sent me the ARC but since I’m paying for the higher tier service I ordered their $400 router wifi extender for free at no extra cost that has wifi 6E. Still bummed I didn’t get the grey gateway though as it’s what’s pictured all over their home page.
@@NaterTateryeah their extender honestly sucks as an extender, it takes too long to switch over. Luckily it’s technically just a router so I got around it with IP pass through and using it as the main wifi router.

can you do a tutorial on how to make this a modem , I'm getting 50mbps on the actual verizon router. So went to buy a netgear router Nighthawk and i wanna make the verizon one as a modem and hopefully that will help me with the speed. in your windows settings go to "network & internet > Wi-Fi > *your_t-mobile_wifi" and then change it from a "public network" to a "private network". That should fix that firewall issue.
If you have a grandfather home internet plan don't cancel it because the new plans are hard capped at 100 (5g home) and 300 (home plus) amd you can't get it back

I have the white box. I just had Verizon send me a WiFi extender but I was wondering how i can boost the connection to receive better speeds. The fastest it has gone was about 150mbps and that was when I was in the same room with the cube and not in the back room in my house. How can I boost my cube speed? What device will I need if the extender doesn’t help? Would appreciate a response, thank you.
I am located in Las Vegas and I previously had the ASK gateway and was getting 250+ mbps. I cancelled service and then signed up again later and was issued the WNC-200A gateway and my speeds are now about 100-110 mbps even though I'm on the same 5G Home Plus plan that claims speeds up to 300 Mbps. Awe man, I wouldn't mind getting that grey box but we moved locations and according to the Verizon site, our new address doesn't qualify for the 5g wifi. Ironically, I'm still using our 5g wifi router and it gets a better signal than where we were before. I'm wondering how to get my hands on this without having to speak to a rep and they find out we aren't in the previous location and shut down the internet access....lol.
I just tried getting the Grey tower, they told me I only qualify for the white cube and there was no way of getting the grey one. It goes off a system that tells them which one to give to us depending on our location. So maybe telling them a different address might work…
I also couldn’t get the FIOS 5G at my location, I did some research and found a post on Reddit someone used a random address, closest to them that gets this service and it worked. I tried it and worked like a charm 👍🏼. Verizon gave me a choice of in store pick up and delivery. (I picked in store pick up) They even let me choose a delivery address. Hope that helps! 😊
I got a question anywhere I put the box I always get 1 bar for internet do you know the reason why??? I tried to move it to a different window it still does not work.. does the amount people connected mess it up…
lots of factors play into the signal strength. Try placing the unit outside to see if your house construction/siding/windows degrades the signal. Try many different spots and place it where it gets the best signal.
I had the small cube and now the tower one and just recently theyve been jist dropping signal and jave no connection. Idk how to fix this and verizon is not help
Anyone seeing any issues with the distance of their antenna causing signal degradation for the modem itself? I've read that the closer the device (shortest cable) to the antenna, the better. Whats the average fall off of signal after a certain point, does anyone know?

so, I'm trying to set up my own router to do the DHCP and I am having Double NAT issue. In this video you skipped the DNS Server settings. But, anyway, so after watching the using your own router with Verizon HI video, which had the old firmware, I turned off the DHCP server by going to network connections/network server/settings/ and IP Address Distribution, changed from DHCP to disable and that isn't enough, I still have double NAT error on my router. I have it set to a static IP and have DMZ set to the router for 4 & 6. What am I missing? The gateway says it's in "Bridge" mode. I did not change the IP Passthrough, it is not turned on, this is the only thing I can think of. (wifi and radios are turned off already in the gateway.) ...wait, do I need to change the wired connection to the router from LAN port 2 on the gateway? I'm going to try that.
OK, lots going on here. First, it sounds like you might have DNS and DHCP/NAT mixed up somewhat. If the V gateway has DHCP enabled then that is a NAT layer. But if you don't have DHCP enabled then your router won't get an IP address and you'll have to assign one. Or you can use thr V gateway ip passthrough. But...what is your objective?

@killswitch2011 both of these verizon gateways have the option of it. You wouldnt/cant have both dmz and ippt active at the same time.
I have Verizon gateway business. Would you suggest taking the sim out and placing it in an invisagig? How would I best connect my Verizon gateway to use together with my Starlink as a fail safe?
I would probably use the Verizoj gateway and plug it and the starlink into a router designed for multi-WAN. Here's how I combine 6+ WAN together on a single router: ruclips.net/video/FugYABcOkTE/видео.html
Is the newer one worth upgrading to?
I dont think they offer that.
I don't.
Another insightful video Nate! I am hoping you might plan to shoot a video tutorial on how to connect this gateway to MIMO antennas. Thanks anyway!
I plan to!
@@NaterTater have you made the video yet on how to hook up mimo 4x4 antenna to this model?
When looking at Verizon home internet, it shows in my cart that gateway model ASK-NCM1100 would be shipped, could you do a review on that one?

Where is the Cellular Metrics like T-Mobile has where I can see what tower I’m on or see my SINR, Etc?
Have you done a video after opening the new gateway? Physical SIM in it?

Does the Guest Network limit the connected users speed? I don't see a QoS setting either, does this mean the guest does not use QoS? Reason I ask is i'm troubleshooting a Packet Loss and Latency issue and wanting to know if the moving the other devices to the guest may help if I move them to the guest.
I haven't seen that but I do use my own tp-link omada setup (ruclips.net/video/34NZwJh4N84/видео.html) and it certainly has those capabilities. Have you confirmed that the packet loss is in your wifi/LAN and not your cellular/ WAN?

I activated in December and they sent me the arc, there was no option for the new grey one even though I activated with the highest tier plan. I was hoping they would change it to the grey one even though at activation it showed the arc. It’s weird that on the website it lists this new grey one as being mmwave capable but the fcc docs and others have reported it doesn’t actually switch over to mmwave. At least the free wifi extender they offered and sent has wifi 6 since it’s the same extender they use for fios.
does it say mmwave capable or 5G UWB capable? because they bundled c-band under their 5G UWB marketing now.
@@NaterTater can’t find the specific link right now but in the comparisons page on Verizon it specifically said the WNC-CR200A was capable of mmwave.
