Verizon 5G Home Internet Reviewed! More Options, More Consumer Power

- #Verizon5GHomeInternet Let’s face it! Home internet options are terrible when it comes to consumer choice. Generally, you have two options when you move into a new neighborhood and some folks, in some places, even have just one. Well, Verizon has a service which may be just what you’re looking for. At the very least, it creates more competition. Tshaka says though that it may do much more than just open up more competition, he thinks it may be a solid option for many internet users. He dives into the service and the hardware and how they both perform.

I have had this for over two months now and have been so satisfied. No problem with cloudy weather. I have had my tv, 4 phones and an iPad running at same time and no problem. Would recommend this to anyone that can get it.
Man I hate cloudy/rainy days, my Fios acts up. I need to see if they offer 5G in my area now.
Nah man it aint that good, i get 100-200 ping avg with the occasional under 50 ping and sometimes its just complete garbage

I have 16 smart devices running on the WiFi and have had zero issues. Getting a solid 150-200 mbs download speeds on the WiFi and 20-40 mbs unload speeds with unlimited data all for 50 bucks! I was paying Cox 50 bucks just to have unlimited data plus the price of the internet. Needless to say I cut Cox and I am very satisfied with Verizon. My son and I both do heavy multiplayer gaming and have had no issues.
It honestly just depends on your area where you live and where you put the router
Thank you for answering my question lol
Do you have a router or just this 1 device?
@@brandonnguyen1486 that’s what I want to know because I’m getting major lag spikes. It goes from 30ms to 300ms on a regular cycle.
@@GrimTravels I got the 2 routers from Linksys and they wouldn't mesh. The child node
Thank you very much for this review and everyone that commented. You all convinced me and picked one up today and am very satisfied. I went from an atrocious 3mb with frontier to over 200mb with Verizon. For those wondering why only 3mb. We just moved to a 3 bedroom mobile home. Everything is great about the home and the area but this is the gotcha part. Frontier made a deal with the management to be the sole provider for this mobile home park. They haven't updated to fiber in this area yet, so they're running on ancient dsl phone lines and are charging residents 50 bucks for 3mb. And no, it can't be upgraded. Yet. I was like hell to the nah. We're gonna figure something out and came across this video. Thank you again!
Was paying $70 per month with Spectrum. Since I use Verizon for my phone plan, I get the Home Internet for only $25 per month. I don't have heavy internet usage (At most, moderate laptop use, phone, if I watch a streaming service on my Playstation) in a small apartment. Great deal.
Just ordered it. I have two laptops for work, game consoles, and tablets. I got the $45 a month plan and it's sounding like a good deal.
Spectrum is a joke, they’ll make it very hard for u to switch or downgrade that I got fed up hence I’m switching as well and mobile as well
I have spectrum now and I'm thinking of this. I can't work at home with the spectrum connection issues.
@@Grr8jon Bradah i'd say switch, i just got mine today and took me no more than 5 min to set up plug and play, just make sure you disconnect all the spectrum stuff and you'll be good to go, u can try it for a month for free which shows how confident Verizon of their product. u can pay as low as $25 which is mind blowing, i opted for the 5G plus for $80 a month but i signed up for the autopay which drops it to $70 a month, im saving $600+ a year plus free disney channel and a soundbar or a home security system which i already have that's why i chose the soundbar. I just got tired of the monopoly type that cable companies have and what not for the past decade or so. btw ones u install the unit let it cycle through your wifi on all your devices and your download speed will increase at time goes.
Spectrum just raised basic to 300mbs. They know they can’t keep customer, so Let’s keep raising the baseline speeds?
$75 a month for 300 MB? Meh, You might as well just have an unlimited data plan through a service provider on your cell phone.

Org. Awesome content! Thanks for sharing. BTW, I’m an Enterprise Wireless Solution Architect and I must congratulate you on how you presented and spoke to the nerd knobs and features on RF/Spectrum and throughput for folks that don’t quiet understand or care to. Great job and thanks again. 👊🏽
Thank you for this report and review. I have had this Verizon 5G home internet for about a week now. It is working incredibly well compared to my Orbitel service. They raised my monthly service from $82 to $102. So I am thankful like you said for competition. When I called to cancel they of course we’re going to give me all kinds of deals. Still though not as good as Verizon. I have a Casita where my son lives and he is getting no interruptions for speed with his gaming. Sometimes it can be slower if we have a lot of streams going on. Thank you for the tips on rectifying any issues early on with this service.
I just got this installed today, I was the 6th person in the entire state to have this setup. And I must say, I am truly BLOWN away. There is literally NO buffering or latency while being connected to 9 devices. This is going to be huge. Internet providers are going to be shaking in their boots 😂 and can we talk about the fact that I have my phone, devices, and services all under one umbrella. This is the future. Bye bye Xfinity 👋🏼😂😂😂
What about for a big family w/ surplus devices?!
Good I hope stuff like this destroys xfinity. Fuck them. Worst customer service ever and they bend you over and don't even have the courtesy to use lube.
I have Xfinity now and my bill went up $30 a month, so now it’s about $110 for JUST internet. I don’t watch TV, all use is YT and some streaming network, and barely game anymore. I’m really considering it

Great details on how attenuation plays a factor in various ways. I just bought my first home and nearly fell out of my chair when I learned that Xfinity did not lay any cable in the neighborhood, nor do they plan to. The fastest fiber speeds available go up to 100Mbps/5Mbps. Based on many searches it appears that Verizon 5G home could be my saving grace - I'm hoping it fairs out well especially with talk about them turning on the ultrawide band in the future for the tower that covers my area. 🙏
This is a really great review. Make me think about getting this now. Big thumbs up!
Great review! We just got offered this and I am researching the product.
Wow, Shaqa, Great review I stumbled onto your site on RUclips after my Google filter showed I purchased a VZ Gateway 5G home Internet.

I just got mine sunday and it took 5 minutes to set up and is working great
Dude, thank you so much for going through the router setup, the buffering issue is what would have kept me from using this option and leaving me stuck with Spectrum. Verizon should clip that portion of this video to their sign up page!
How do we access this setting to make the change?

@@forgettablelisa it’s different now and I honest to god do not know what to do lol.
@@GrimTravels hey man no joke I recently had months of issues with my speeds too, and finally did get it worked out but you HAVE to get elevated to tier 2 support. The support you initially contact is totally worthless. Just argue with them them and refuse all their useless suggestions, just say you already did it and didn’t work. Force them to open a support ticket and get the number. Once tier 2 is helping they literally call you every 72 hours until they fix the problem, now our speed is legit better than ever. I have to say again though, Verizon support is TRASH if you cannot get bumped up to actual tech support. The 1-800 and chat features are USELESS.
Thank you for the video. I'm giving Verizon 5G a try to replace my 20+ year service with Cox Communications, which has been like having a crazy girlfriend (lots of highs and lows) for the customer experience. Really hoping I'll get more stable service and performance from Verizon. I have a tower like 100 yards from my house, line of sight, no obstructions, so hopefully that will be very good. Oh yeah, going from $90 per month to $25 is gonna be nice too.
Thanks for the setup hints. Big help

@Hit em with the smoke I have tried every available spot and window in the home, also only using it on my PlayStation so one device, previously I was using a hotspot on my iPhone, that was actually better than this!
Thank you so much for your information very helpful
The fact I can get this package for $25 a month on top of my phone... That alone can erase every flaw the system has so it'll force the cable providers to innovate/drop their prices.
After a month or 2 it goes up to 50/month, with autopay. 60$/month without autopay
Your speed will go down once your tower is congested. It sounds good, but actual world usage is not that great. Since most likely, you're going to use the internet in the evening and night, which is when the tower gets congested. I had had it for a year since I moved into my rural home that does not have ISP yet.
@@kyle19882 Prices for the low option is locked for 2 years. Prices for the upper option are locked for 3 years.
Agreed. Mine is coming tomorrow. I’m dying to ditch Spectrum.
I would have to agree with pretty much all you said. As someone out in the country with little to no options this has been working great. Much better than a previous wireless provider that Verizon bought out. It is now used as a backup for Starlink which was ordered long before this was available. If there is anything bad to say about it is the customer service trying to actually order the service. I had taken my system to immediate neighbors homes looking for a solution for them to test and order. Upon them calling to order everyone one of them were told it was not available until one spent countless time arguing and on the phone with them to discover if they all used my address they could order and have shipped to their addresses. Once we discovered this it was no issue for the others to order using my address. Only issue was one neighbors system was deactivated and after countless time on the phone was finally reactivated. The automated phone system is horrible as is the online chat features. But hey it works great!
Verizon has the absolute worse customer service implementation of any business I need to use in my daily/weekly life. Everything from the phone recordings, to the customer service agent ignorance/greed, to the "troubleshooting" their techs are able to do is laughably bad over the last couple years
Their on-site techs were nice guys from my experience, and seem to hate their employers practices as well, but still they weren't exactly knowledgable in how the equipment worked or how to troubleshoot ISP issues
Thats probably the only thing that would keep me from relying on this 5G home service. If it ever has something go wrong, the time it will take to fix will likely be tremendous and the troubleshooting steps will be really vague steps since there is hardly any wires
Excellent review.
This was a great review! I really appreciate the depth! Is there a follow up?
Not yet.
Thanks! Very informative !
Thanks for your review. This service recently became available in Southwest Florida. I have the ability to try it free for 30 days. Years ago I set up a wired network in my home with two dual band wireless routers for better coverage for phones, tablets and laptops. Everything else (TV's, printers, stereos, NAS) has a wired connection. If I try Verizon 5G, I'm going to connect my wired network to it.
TY gonna check your videos out
Thank you for this thorough review. I need to save some money. I really do.
Great review. Thx 👍🏽
Thank you for the information. I am currently waiting for Verizon to notify me about their service.
Love this channel!
A few days in with this and I'm impressed. No issues after I got done with the convoluted setup process. For the record, I tried the T-Mobile option first and was thoroughly disappointed. Their simple setup was a breeze to get up and running, but there's so few configuration options and it wasn't playing nice with my Google Nest mesh setup. I was getting single digit downloads and uploads. So, I threw it back in the box and gave it back to T-Mobile. I'm trying to replace an $85/month Spectrum service with mediocre speeds.
Next up was Verizon. The setup process was an absolute pain. First of all, my order didn't go through completely and so the service was half activated. I had to call support to get that sorted out. Then the paint-by-numbers setup process which is completely through mobile was a pain. I have the 2023 edition that's a taller, more fully featured router and a separate window-mounted antenna/modem. Setup requires you to pair the modem with your smartphone via Bluetooth so that the Verizon app can finish setting up the modem. Problem is that this didn't work with my Pixel 4 XL. Thankfully, I also have an iPhone from work and the Bluetooth worked fine on that, go figure. Once I completed the setup, it was all smooth sailing from that point on. I pay for the 85-300 Mbps tier for $50 (includes $10 off for Autopay). My Google router routinely measures a consisent 550/60 Mbps which blows away my Spectrum (250/12).
So far so good. My family can't tell the difference. There's a ton of devices on this thing. Multiple laptops, tablets, TVs, phones, game consoles hitting this thing and after a few days there are no issues. I'll give this a couple more weeks and if I don't experience any back-breaking issues, I'm going to take my Spectrum equipment on a long walk in the woods. One of my main reasons for making this change is to be an activist. We need more competition when it comes to home Internet. These monopolies in certain areas are frustrating to deal with. Residential 5G service is the black swan that I believe will be a major disruptor and I'm putting my money where my mouth is.
But I'm going to keep an open mind. My biggest concern with this service is what will happen when more people discover this "secret" and sign up for the service. Will it get congested and I start seeing the low end of Verizon's promised speeds (for me 85 Mbps)? What happens during bad weather or emergencies? Will mobile phones get priority over Home Internet?
Here are my Pros and Cons so far.
Pros:
* Excellent price. I'm saving $35/month with the price locked for 2 years
* Excellent speeds so far. I'm routinely getting higher than what I'm paying for and better than my Spectrum service.
* Order process was simple. Ordered online, picked up at the Verizon store.
* Router has a lot of advanced options for advanced tech people.
* Plays well with 3rd party mesh systems like Google Nest.
Cons:
* Setup process is not advanced users friendly. I work in tech and have done so for 20 years, I know how to set these things up. Give me the option to plug it in and set it up the old-fashioned way. Requiring the mobile app to setup the service is terrible especially if you run into compatibility issues like I did.
* Too many cables and equipment. *Beware* the 2023 version of this device is much larger and has a separate modem/antenna. You have a POE injector and Ethernet cable for the modem, you have a power adapter and ethernet cable for the router and if you have your own equipment like me, you have two more cables to deal with. That's a mess of cables that all need to be tidied up along your window and wall.
I'm happy I found your excellent review. I received a Verizon brochure in the mail for their 5G service the other day. So I had to do some research to see what's up. Currently I'm using Spectrum (230 Mbs down/10 Mbs up) and have been happy with the service. Questions I have are....is there any interference between the Verizon router and your gaming router? Did you notice any difference
with locating the Verizon router close to a window vs. not? Thanks.
Super informative.
Thank you for doing this video.
Good stuff, bro
Excellent review. My Comcast bill just went up $20 per month for the second year of my promotion.
I will give Verizon 5G home Internet a try because their website says it is available at my address.
Thanks for the information sir, I'll update you when I know more as well... but I think you sold me lol
Currently trying to figure out how to access the settings for modem
Couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase of this service. Speeds are going to drastically increase as coverage area increases. Pulling 345mbps ↓ @ 16ms ping 10 miles from the closest 5G cell tower. Prior to this, 5mbps was the best option available, which you couldn't do much with.
Mine goes from 100 ping to 1500...and download is 50 mgbs...how do you see the closest 5g tower?
What speed test website do you use? I feel like my computer mainly performs well but not my mobile devices so this Verizon review is helping me a lot in deciding if I should switch!
New sub great video
I used my old router and used the 5g router as a modem for a seamless transition. Only other thing you may need to do is enable port forwarding on the 5g admin portal and open it up for your old router (i did full range) to get stuff like PS remote play away from home working again.
Obviously turned off the wifi on the 5g router too.
I’ve been seriously thinking about getting this. I currently have xfinity service and my promotion ran out. IF they can’t offer the same promo I’m definitely doing with this. Your review is phenomenal and definitely answered all my questions.
Thank you for watching, fellow history nerd!
FWIW, I have been going into the local Comcast office for 10 years and just asking them to give me the same promo pricing again and they have always been able to do that until last year. Last year the price for our service increased from $25 to $35 a month (with contract, own modem, and direct billing). That said, the new Verizon 5G Home Internet I am being offered is only $25 a month with comp speeds so I am def looking into it.
@@PaulBTheLibrarian Hi Paul I had it and had to return it and sadly go back to Comcast. The speed was fast. I’ll give it that, the thing is it gets very slow once everyone wakes up and starts using their phone. Everyone I mean in your neighborhood. The 5G that this runs off of is the same 5G that everyone uses their phone off of. Tge only time it worked decent was in the early morning hours and late at night. In between it was very slow slower than a cable modem, believe it or not. I’m not saying it’s a bad service but in my area it was just way too slow for me to use. Maybe you’ll have better luck.

Excellent review Bruh!👍🏾 I’ve been waiting for Verizon’s 5g Home Service for a while because DSL and Comcast are the only options in my city( Baltimore)
Now with Verizon coming to town, Comcast will have to be competitive with their prices.

In Baltimore too. Is Verizon being wired in the city now? Did you get the 5G yet?
@@melizzamelizza yes in zip code 21213 I know for a fact they are. I had a Verizon rep come to my house and walkmme through the options.
(I hate comcast) they charge and ATM and a leg and at least once a week the internet goes down
I'm in Baltimore too and just started using T-Mobile Home 5G (Averaging 150-250mbps down 40-50mbps up). Works pretty well so far even living in an apartment with windows that face away from the closest 5G tower and surrounded by a ton of obstructions. Verizon Home 5G is supposed to have better latency, however. Latency is not super important for me right at the moment since I don't really do any online multiplayer gaming, however it might be an issue when I try to set up a remote workstation that I can access when I'm away from home. The Comcast upload speeds were killing me working from home. At 5-10mbps up, when I used Dropbox for work, it throttled it down to 700 kbps! Now on T-Mobile 5G I'm getting around 60mpbs up total which is then around 40mbps to Dropbox. Also Fios is finally being deployed to residences now in Baltimore. Mainly to large apartment buildings first. It's awesome to finally have options--I really enjoyed calling comcast to end my service.

I definitely will be switching over to Verizon 5G as I have Xfinity and they have been going up on my bill ridiculously this month
Bro I appreciate your video so much. I just came across Verizon internet because I'm fed up with xfinity. They own my area and like your predicament I'm paying just shy of $100 a month for 300mbps. Realistically for my needs if I can hit 100-150mbps consistently I'm happy. Technically I'm actually paying that much for 200mbps with an $18 a month discount and they threw in 100mbps which they always do so when my deal is up in November they can start charging me like 115 for the 300 I'm hopes I don't call and complain about wanting a cheaper price. They make it so expensive to get anything from 50-300mbps but once ypu have 300mbps jumping up to 600, 900 or 1200 only adds an extra $5 a month per increase where to go from 50mbps to 100 you're paying over $20 makes no sense at all.
everytime you blink they add on another fucking fee, comcast near me after 5 years of owning my modem decided to charge me a rental fee for 6 months, i just refused to pay it each time till they finally fcking stopped
Good video. Can you take the sim out of the device? If so, would love to drop it into my cat16 modem with 4x4 outdoor mimo's and see how it does
I just started using it today and have seen download speeds of 130 to 300 Mbps and upload speed around 20 Mbps. I am very pleased and plan on cancelling my Xfinity Internet if the performance continues to deliver. Xfinity keeps jacking the price up beyond reason....
Thx so much sir
Your video is great
I currently have the Verizon LTE Home Gateway. I have a router that combines it with my CenturyLink service. This keeps the Internet from going down if one of the services goes down. I have an 1,800 sqft house, so I use the mesh system for WIFI, so I have turned off the WIFI on the Verizon gateway, which I prefer anyway. I've gotten the message that I can upgrade to 5G, so I need to check it out.
