I absolutely love how you took it apart and sanded every inch of this piece. At the end it was like a piece straight off the showroom floor. Beautiful job! The only thing I didn't care for was the stain color. I tend to avoid anything with even a hint of an orangey tone.
Great Job Man! I love MC design. Save Em! I would recommend going up to 320 on sanding (at least a little) and maybe using Poly instead of lacquer because non catalyzed lacquer really never dries. So the piece will be soft and damage easier. Still Phenomenal Job!!!

OH MY GOSH... finally someone taking the paint OFF and restoring it to it's natural Glory. Thank YOU so much for "SAVING" this Antique.. God Bless YOU So Beautiful
It looks like Burmese teak. I would have used a finish of half raw linseed oil and half mineral spirits. I have a Hans Olsen roundette dining set and that's how I'm refinishing it.
So good to see paint coming off and really truly upcycled compared to all these upcyclers who think just painting pieces improves them…. Thank you Thank you Thank you❤
I've started refinishing a 1930s secretary desk with the same color green paint embedded in the grain. Thanks for showing me the way to get it out! 😊 Beautiful work!
@@FurnitureFlippaHi, first time visiting your channel. EXCELLENT FILMING, and THANK YOU FOR NOOOOO MUSIC , and mostly no louder sounds between shots!!! (Please keep it that way. However, the power tools sounds are too loud, louder than your voice, so please lower volume when switching frames, etc.) Wanted to say I LOVE THE SOCKS, was super cute to see, so please don't try to edit that out. Keep it real and gen yoo wine! ;) Good job, even thoughI always prefer a MATTE finish.
Thank you! Good question; after a 2-3 hours of scraping and brushing in my indoor small workspace, at that moment I started looking for a garage to rent so I could sand, etc 😂 I would guess 5-6 hours, could have been more haha
Hey man if you are going to do a ton of sanding in your new work space you can hookup a shop vac to your sander. It is a bit annoying to move around and a bit annoying to listen to BUT keeps the rest of your work space much cleaner. Great video and great work.
Watch my latest video! My sander dust collector piece broke and I ended up buying a shop vac and connecting it. Great tip and I recommend it for everyone haha I appreciate your comment man! Thanks for watching
Totally, initially I thought a gel stain would help hide any deep paint in the grain. But a clear oil would have looked nice. See my latest video of a desk I just posted where I use oil instead of stain, the grain was so nice! Thanks for watching
I’m playing catch up/binge watching your channel. Someone said it’s worth $300-400? !! 😳😳 ahhhh not where I live. More like $800-1,000k that is just beautiful and MCM is in great demand these days. You’re very good Jamie. I’m enjoy all of these videos. Your camera wrk and editing is great too 👍🏼🇺🇸
Paint Stripping: Just as a FWIW, and this is from experience in paint stripping something that was getting paint put back (windows on a 1930's house), but look into IR heaters. I found a DIY page with links to the pieces and built it for (I think, it's been a decade now) about $200... you can buy them ready to use for about $500. It meant the difference between multiple passes with carbide scrapers and sanding to just 1 with the heater and a putty knife, the paint would come off in sheets AND it doesn't damage the wood beneath. Just a thought, no idea how well it'd work on a veneer.
Woah friend, you did an incredible job! Just, wow. I think this table may be rosewood 🧐, it was so dark when it was coming through when you were stripping it-and in that case I would list in the upper $$$. Side note, the way you keep your workspace so neat and tidy is seriously impressive 👏
With these videos i always wonder if the paint is actually original. People like acting high and mighty over the color being ugly but they never stop to think if the color actually holds as much history as the wood itself... Although considering it's mid century youre doing a favour by removing it even if it is original LOL
Youve discovered the hard way that when you try to remove paint from open grained wood (oak, teak, etc) that stripper is the way to go EVERY time, and that sanding will just push the paint further into the pores. Its maddening! Modern orange style strippers usually wont do the trick either and you have to go more old school. You got there in the end tho, and thats what counts. Its a lovely piece and well worth saving from the landfill. ps...I love that shade of teal paint!! just not for this
My Dad built a set of almost the same style in the 70's. The only difference was the top edges were rounded rather than squared. They're in my sister's living room now!
🤨 ~ 😷, was the room you were doing this in well ventilated? - as we had a brief glimpse that you had put a respirator on when you were painting the stripper on the subject

Why on earth would anyone want to paint this gorgeously designed table that awful colour!?!? Man, it needed you to come and rescue it and turn it back to its beautiful self! Well done. It’s gotta be worth at least $300, maybe $400! ❤️🦘🇦🇺😊
Glad to find your channel, and really enjoyed this transformation. But oh my, I must use my mom voice! Please do not use a metal brush on wood!!! Get a flat toothbrush for that in-the-grain paint. Also, 000 or 0000 steel wool. Also try microfiber cloth. Otherwise, you are fun to watch, keep going.
Wow that color was pretty hideous! Must have been painted in the 1970s or something. Great job kiddo! See if you can find tables similar to that that are new and maybe go half on yours I bet you pieces like that new or 1400 bucks easily.
Gorgeous result! Took a lot of work but the result is amazing. Good job! (no idea what this is worth...let us know what you eventually sell it for and what market you are in) Thank you
Wow, you were really meticulous with that clean up. Table looks good as new! I'm not really a wood expert, but it kinda looks like oak to me? I helped build an oak table once and it had the same fine groves, no matter how meticulously we sanded it.
Wow, beautiful job! I have this same coffee table, handed down from my parents - purchased in Canada sometime in the 60’s. Mine has never been painted or refinished, and is about the same colour as yours, so good job on the stain choice! I think my parents said ours was teak veneer, but yours may be a different wood. Or the top could be teak veneer, and the base something else. Mine unfortunately has some water damage on the top, and I started watching furniture flipping channels to see how I could fix it up myself. So thank you for posting this video - this piece is exactly what I wanted to see refinished!😁
Good god, how can you ruin such a beautiful table with that teal color. The restored version looks amazing. Great job. Makes me want to try my hand at restoration too.
I have a table that looks almost identical to that one (without the teal paint job). It was made by the Lane company ca. 1962. Purchased new by my parents.
Sanding will push the paint deeper into the grain, also sanding the thin veneer on top would be risky. Once you sand through veneer you cant go back, and repairs or replacement will be needed... lots of work.
My guess is it was sanded down before it was painted? Making it easy for the paint to sink into the grain. But who knows.. Thanks so much for watching!

Robertson screws, that's DEFINITELY a Canadian piece of furniture. Here in the States it would be flat heads for anything made prior to about 1960.

good job mate but you need a workbench to put your work on.

When someone with terrible taste tries to upcyle a perfectly good piece of furniture, never paint your hardwood furniture.
Yes that paint was horrendous!
Hello! Question, why not using sand paper from the start to remove the paint?

That is soooo much nicer than the paint job. Looks awesome now.
Because the color of the paint, I suspect there was lead in it. Hope you didn't end up inhaling too much of that dust.
