    Their drummer also deserves to be mentioned. Jim Keltner was widely regarded as one of the all time great session musicians as he
    appeared on hundreds of recordings and backed many artists.

      His alias was Buster Sidebury. I’m not sure if the other musicians who contributed got Sidebury names. Ray Cooper, Jim Horn and Ian Wallace.

      Including Steely Dan - Jim was the drummer on Josie from Aja, their best album. No people were more pedantic in the studio than Becker and Fagen.

    • @frazzleface753
      @frazzleface753 5 лет назад +54

      A lot of it is down to Jeff's shyness and humble nature. He doesn't value his contribution to music in the way that his fans do. He can't really understand that his music is adored and highly valued for its genius, beauty and influence. He had to be coaxed into believing that people still wanted to listen to him play live. In interviews he just seems like a nice bloke you might meet down the pub who somehow found an outlet for an amazing musical talent, but still, it hasn't really changed him as a person.

      ELO had a sound that captured me in my elementary school years. I loved hearing Lynne's magic in arranging and recording the strings. While there were string sections in other 70s recording of the era...nothing quite sounded like the electric strings of ELO...and nothing ever has. I saw the Jeff Lynne's ELO tour in Aug 2018 in Toronto and it was an amazing show....40 years in the making as i had wanted to see the Out of the Blue tour but my Dad wasnt interested in taking me.

      @ari1234a 5 лет назад +6

      Its not really that surprising if You look at the personnel whos doing it.
      Dylan, Lynne and Petty prolly the most natural songwriters of them, Harrison learned the craft from Lennon-McCartney and Orbison is known to write a good tune or few too.
      Also these guys could write a tune in 6 hours if you told them to do so, You lock one of them to a room and say dont come out before a tune is ready and they would do so, its the talent that is talking here.
      There are these videos on RUclips where Elton John is given these lyrics and he writes a tune on the spot.

    Thanks Jeff for this and The TWs. What a great group. I actually have it on factory cassette just as CD technology was pushing them out. I really like the idea of these guys getting together on their own, no lawyers, no record company A&R, just them deciding everything. They did it simply because they like each other and the music. This near never happens and is certainly a refreshing departure for all. The album still sounds great today!

But I remember enjoying watching him sing pretty woman. It's one of those moments that makes life wonderful when you look back at 50. Just talked to my dad and it was crown center in Kansas city Missouri. He was reminiscing about enjoying the traveling wilburys himself of course he's Jeff Lynne's age so he really did enjoy all these musicians. He still plays their music on his guitar retired in Hawaii. I'm gonna have to go visit him soon. I've never been to Hawaii let alone the big island. @@tsunemi4869 Did you notice how it said they did everything in ten days and would write something early and record it late? "Final recordings" doesn't mean anything when all the recordings are potentially 'final'. It sounds like you're not aware of who Keltner is or why they chose him, but it's because he does very solid work that makes everybody else sound better. Your opinion is just sad and uninformed and unimportant, if you think you can just replace Jim Keltner with whoever's available and it would still be just as good. He's one of the best, even if you don't recognize it.

    I like all the guys here and I like their music or many of their songs. However, I often wonder if Jeff realizes his own genius. His early music sounded to me more discoish. Nevertheless, great songs he produced. However, later, the mixture of classical orchestra and rock and roll, that was genius. I don't think anyone else is ever done it. You can't possibly get tired of those songs. To me it is an honor to have him in my time and enjoy his music since the 70's.
