They left this world so much better than they found it...... we're all out here spinning on this rock.....nobody knows why.....but these guys made the ride so much better.
The Wilburys is a testament to George's ability to make and keep friends in the music business who are like minded about the music. What a wonderful bunch of guys.
"The Wilburys is a testament to George's ability to make and keep friends"... tells it all. They were enjoying their time together and like some people play cards... others play football or soccer.. or even "handball" they were doing what all of them loved more than anything. This is so great a "last...(ing) goodbyes or greetings" from truly great musical inspired people who got famous because of their love of music... Roy, George and Tom have now traveled over to the other side... but Bob, Jim and Jeff are still traveling on this side... in 2022.
Loved that story. These Gods of music are fake punching each other in the arm pointing to Roy on stage at his gig saying "Can you believe HE'S IN OUR BAND!!"..... Simply awesome.
Roy Orbison was impossible to replicate. No one has or ever will sound like him. And to see these other music gods fawn over how special he is…. It just makes me happy that Roy went out with the highest appreciation he deserved. And he must have felt that before he died. He was pure priceless treasure
Near the end of the "Handle with Care" video, although we briefly see Roy (Lefty) put the harmonica up to his lips, it is actually Tom (Charlie T.) who plays this ending solo.
My dad had the "End of the Line" played at his funeral. People said some words a preacher got up and talked and people just sat and listened pretty stone faced. As soon as that song played there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Music can be so much more powerful. That album and especially that song will always hold a special place in my heart.
“Wow, Roy Orbison is in the band.” “Singing after Roy was really intimidating.” I love how all these legends were star struck with Roy. Big, big, big love for these guys.

Yes Thank God I am glad all of this excellent group 🙌 of the top of top were blessed by their collaboration. There's so much joy that comes through their enjoyment of working together ❤ 🙌
After watching the "Get Back" doc, it's easy to see why George was so worried about his friends happiness. He didn't want his friends to feel pushed aside like he had with the Beatles, the whole mess that had become. So he became the leader to make sure everyone felt included. Everyone had a voice here and a strength in a certain area to lend that made the group work. I loved all these guys separately and to see them together is magic. I watch this docu once a year, it's so good!
In my life I don’t believe there’s been a better collaboration than the Wilburys. Harrison Dylan, Orbison, Petty, and Lynne. Damn, what an amazing story of bringing the group together. Then the tragedy of losing Roy.
Sad Yes, of the Great Roy Orbison ,passing away. There iz another great , mostly unforgettable member, .Drummer , Jim Keltner. So good iz /waz he , with also , Ry Cooder
Who would have thought Dylan would outlive them all (well, besides Jeff and Jim Keltner still being around) Guess we'll never hear their third album Volume 5.
I really love the fact about how everybody was there just for the fun of making music with the greatest musicians of their time. The warmth and respect they've all had for each other was beyond words!
The only shame about The Traveling Wilburys (hands down the greatest ever supergroup) is that they didn’t get together many years before. Two albums - and only one with The Big ‘O’ - is so sad, but what a legacy they left. AMAZING! R.I.P. Roy, George and Tom 🙏🏻
I believe that things happen when they are supposed to and am very happy they happened in my lifetime. I remember precisely where I was when I heard them the first time and their music saw me through some tough times. God bless them.
There will NEVER be anything like it again. There isn't a single young musician today that can fill their shoes. Worse, even with all the tech advantages they have 99%of the music turned out stinks.
@@chiangmaicharlies all the beatles got to have input, there's songs written by all of them. however maybe you are correct and George thought that was the most important aspect, and encouraged it. i really liked their music, it was very refreshing
Something like this can never be duplicated. Legendary musical artists who left their ego's at the door to have some fun and create a little magic that will always live on. I still listen to their tracks whenever I can!
The Highwaymen was the same type of get together...but with classic country western. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. Fantastic music.
@@lisaahmari7199 wow thanks. Looked m up and they're great. Lived 2 years in Arizona for a job, but never heard about them. Thanks from Belgium (suppose I owe you some chocolate, beer and waffles lol)
One of the perks of being a Beatle: You can dine with Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne, phone Bob Dylan to ask to borrow his studio, pick up the guitar you left with Tom Petty and then get them all together to create some music there and then in Dave Stewart's house. What a life...
It's a really strange thought because it's kind of their equivalent of 'yeah, we can pick up Brian and Mike on the way to Dave's house and I think Jimmy left his Playstation and games there and Dave's got that massive TV so ring Steve, tell him to bring all his spare controllers over and yeah, let's do this thing!'
As short lived as they were, with the sad and untimely demise of Roy Orbison, I still adore The Traveling Wilburys' music. Sadly now we've also lost George Harrison and Tom Petty. However, the music lives on for old and new generations alike to enjoy. I don't know about anyone else, but I really needed this documentary.
Amen brother Ahmet shengenzer you hit it right on the head beautifully done wonderful group of guys love them all very much it's all what rock and roll is all about
Truly the supergroup of supergroups, thank you so much to all the Wilburys, especially the ones no longer with us for all the beautiful music you left behind x
I love Jeff Lynne's comment about having the best singer (Roy) and the best lyricist (Dylan) in the same group. Jeff is such a huge songwriting talent in his own right.
I always thought of Lynne as an engineer of sound, or a craftsman really. A sculpter. A sculpter of sound. I hear the Electric Light Orchestra sound organically fused into the songs. There's the classic rock and roll and rockabilly song, or a George Harrison song or riff, or the Dylan twang. It's fresh but its the classic sound and it has this something else. An ELO presentation and energy. All the songs were so nicely put together.
Hearing the Traveling Wilburys sing Ghost Riders in the Sky happily together in a kitchen with just some acoustic guitars is something else. What a class act each and everyone of them.
I like to hear Tom Petty tell of how excited Roy was before he passed. I once read where George Harrison's wife spoke of his end saying he had pain from the sickness but was not afraid of death because he knew where he was going with George having such deep faith. I am glad they shared these personal stories. Tom Petty still is a hard pill to swallow.
So where exactly did he end up, If he knew exactly where he was going? Come on tell the truth everyone, there’s no Rock ‘n’ roll heaven. Come on snap out of it!!! There are only two Places people end up after they pass.
@@flamingooneleg77 : Would you believe me, if I told you? Do the research. My friends were there, @ the time of His passing. It says in the Bhagavad-Gita, "that one who remember the Name of Krishna at the time of death, returns to Him". They were chanting Hare Krishna when He departed. Krishna's abode is Sri Vrindavan Dhama, Swatadwip: The White Island, Come-on Man... get out of this place. Go back Home to Godhead, hangout with us ol' musicians.
@@flamingooneleg77 All I know is this, "if there's a Rock & Roll Heaven, then I know they have one hell of a band". I think it's you who should snap out of it. The Travelling Wilburys were a final validation of Roy Orbison’s contribution to Rock&Roll from the mid 50’s of Rockabilly at Sun Records to his last recordings with Virgin released in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Jeff Lynne produced Roy’s Mystery Girl album around the same time as the Wilburys and helped ensure Roy went out on top. It had been 25 years since Roy toured with George Harrison and the Beatles in the U.K. during 1963.
@Harry. B. Renner. jr. Interesting history lesson. I didn't know that about Sam and Ooby Dooby. People needed to learn to listen to the Man in Black! I love Johnny Cash, was so sad when June died bc I knew Johnny would be fairly quick to follow. Both he and Roy had unmistakable voices, when you heard one or the other, yep that's Roy or yep that's Johnny. The same can be said for George, Bob, and Tom as well. To think there's only 2 Wilburys left... Love old Bob! That'll be the day the music truly dies. I'm not a huge fan of Jeff (Geoff?) and ELO is too over produced but any friend of George's is a friend of mine kinda thing right? Thanks for the insight into Roy. 🌹 RIP all.
Thanks for that @JohnG . I wasn't aware of the Mystery Girl connection. Time to give it a listen again! Just read Roy was supposed to be the headliner in '63, but with the explosive popularity of the Beatles they became co-headliners. The recently departed dear Gerry Marsden and his Pacemakers also on the bill. You'll never walk alone you guys, thanks for leaving us your music. RIP.
It’s so unreal to listen to these quiet giants speak about how thrilled they each were to work with one another. As we all know, looking on and looking back, it was like capturing lightening in a bottle. I’m just very grateful I can watch this documentary and wear out my album at will. Thank you for this! ❤️🔥
I'm so glad to read your comments... what a magical surprise time all together of the most beautiful creative poets/ musicians & friends pur joy... I'm so happy to share this with friends °~~|||☆.. °~~
George was the most underrated Beatle and was a huge talent. All Things Must Pass, The Concert for Bangladesh and Living in The Material World are must have rock albums. He was the driving force in making the Traveling Wilburies happen from what I have read.
I could't believe my eyes the first time I saw a picture of the Wilburys. I looked at the picture and I said, "Legend, legend, legend, legend, and legend"
A bunch of super-talented established musicians with nothing left to prove getting together, having fun and making music in a kitchen? What's not to love?
Because they all have such a history in music, and are each super talented, I can respect what they did; but come on, it's melodic pop music and for me that's significantly less important than the ground breaking they did in their respective bands previously. But yea, to have the talent, the talented friends, all the rest of what you said; must feel wonderful. The fact that some of you think it's great is icing on the cake.
@@peetrpeetr - Nothing the Beatles ever did was simple “pop music”? Or mediocre/album filler ever for that matter? Please. Compare “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” to the the Kinks “All Of The Night” and tell me with a straight face that the Beatles didn’t play pure pop. Psychedelia was not the pinnacle of any of these musicians either. I don’t think that ranking musicians by levels of awesomeness is all that productive, especially for full-grown adults. But that is my opinion. You are welcome to yours.
As just one more person who has seen countless videos and music documentaries, this is, by leaps and bounds, the absolute best. Its easy to see that all the guys really enjoyed each others input. Thanks.
Roy Orbison - such a soft spoken and internally rich human being. This group embodies everything great about musicianship and camaraderie among musicians. So grateful to have this glimpse into their sessions. Thanks for posting!
All I can do is echo the previous comments as I've cried so many tears watching this documentary over and over and it doesn't get old. For sure, THE super group of super groups!
First time watching this video and WHEW! How can I be smiling and crying at the same time! God truly blessed the world when he got these wonderful fellows together! The music is absolutely magic!! To see these legends just hanging out and being friends and producing this awesome music almost effortlessly. Still wonderful after all these years, and forever😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Jeff Lynne is a music genius, plays all the instruments, fantastic singer, songwriter and is one of the best if not the best producer ever. Tom Petty said it well in this Documentary. Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo and so many Music Legends have recognized his immense talent. Still, he is the most humble and kind man in the Music industry.
Men who clearly like each other, doing what they love, and creating together. One of the absolutely greatest collaborations, and a favorite recording of mine! Thank you for posting this.
I don’t think with any Musicians these days could possibly ever make another fabulous group like these accidentally put together just at the right time
No competition .... No egos ...... No one guy trying to outdue the other .... Just 5 seasoned musicians coming together and putting their best into an album with nothing but hit after hit ..... If there was ever a supergroup ..... These guys are the cream of the crop ...... Never before nor after will you see 5 musicians of this caliber coming together and doing what they love most ..... Writing, composing, and putting to tape their talents ...... What an awesome collaboration of the best of the best
100% Roy Orbison's singing conveys an understanding of and love for people - whatever one is going through - it may create tears or joy but it soothes the soul. RIP Roy.
@Harry. B. Renner. jr. saw Roy 6 months before he passed in Ontario Canada... i was 18 and allways loved Roys music. He was fantastic.. rip Roy, Tom, George
My friends and I would listen to this record all night while shooting darts in the garage. It did not take long to know all the songs word for word. We would sing all the songs, shoot darts and drink beer all night and almost every night that whole summer. It was by far one of the best times of my life. I had never liked this kind of music before and suddenly, The Traveling Wiburys was my favorite album. This opened up my liking and appreciation for bands like, The Arc Angeles, Joe Ely, John Hiatt and the like. My deepest thanks to all who made this record possible. To good times and good friends, Cheers.
Tragically the contribution of Don Smith and the conception of this group at A&M Studios during the Roy Orbison sessions there leaves a hole in the story. Hapinstance played a huge part of their start.
I just received the ‘Jeff Lynne’s ELO Wembley or Bust’ DVD and CD set for my 73 rd Birthday. I wanted to relive the glorious moments I experienced watching them on 3 separate occasions live in Montreal. Simply Timeless.
How nice to come across this again. I did the special effects... I'm pretty sure you still can't see what I did, which means I did my job. Willy was a pleasure to work with and being involved was my privilege. Hello Smax & Olivia, hope you're well and having fun x
We have lost alot of great musicians especially this past year. But there is a saddness that I feel all the time for the loss of these three. Tom and George the most but Roy was also a breed of his own and a musical genius.
My brother & I were JUST talking about how pissed we were at Tom Petty for taking himself out too early ... we really loved his music. And George, the lifetime of smoking did him in ... I just wish they treasured themselves as much as the fans treasure them. I got chills hearing Roy Orbison sing "You're NOt Alone Anymore."
This was so incredible, the man, the myth, the legend that was The Orb stole the show even in a group full of other certified geniuses. That voice, the greatest voice, no one could match it. It wasn’t a voice, it was a miracle. I got goosebumps just thinking about it. I think he struggled to accept the adulation, he said he didn’t know what to make of it but he remained humble and gracious.
A giant slice in time I am proud to have been in that time..the likes of these musicians only happens once in a generation God bless them all for giving all that was truly in there hearts..not only will we miss there masterly education but also love there guift to us all😢😊❤
Friends enjoying themselves. Laughing, singing, playing just messing around. No corporate sponsor, no financial plan, no marketing strategy. Six guys hanging around at a mates house.
Such an immense, almost incomprehensible amount of talent in this group..tears your (my) heart out to realize that Roy, George and (sigh) TP have 'moved on.' But their music, and beautiful spirits, will be with us...till the end of the line.
Holy buckets. That shot with George talking about Roy dying at/around 21:33...I got goosebumps knowing Jeff is the only one still with us in that particular interview, yet the way George is talking about life and death puts you at an unexpected place of peace about it all. What a beautiful thing the Wilburys was...and still is. RIP Roy, George, and Tom 🙏
Bob still alive to Really sucks though such a great all star band This is a must watch for songwriters Or writers without a proper studio It can be done
It's amazing how cohesive they sound, as if they'd been a band for decades. No egos, just a great band, with great songs, playing well. Then you think it's like five of the biggest names in music history, and it's even more amazing.
I've loved the Traveling Wilburys from the start, but only watched the doccie now - and it's almost exactly as I'd imagined it would have played out - a bunch of awesome human beings, doing what they loved best, but also being guided by their previous experiences - it's just beautiful to see and to listen to again! Thank you for the music!
I’m so glad that I discovered this amazing supergroup about a year ago, thanks to Jeff Lynne who I just saw perform in Detroit as a part of ELO’s farewell tour the other day! I also got into Tom Petty because of that, and I do feel bad that he’s been gone for over seven years now, but we’ll always have the memories. The Traveling Wilburys are the best! Thanks for this.
Even among superstars Roy Orbison is in a class by himself. He sings and you see four guys whose talents were nurtured in earthly surroundings while Roy is tapped into an expressive energy residing far beyond that.
Yesss Elvis Presley himself stated that Roy Orbison had one of the best voices for singing And that is coming from Elvis Presley one of the greatest singers of all time !
One of my favorite music documentaries. Watching these legends having fun, jamming and creating great music together in a relaxed and unpretentious may always makes me smile from ear to ear. RIP George, Roy and Tom. You're all much missed.
I do believe in magic because I've seen it. I saw it here, too. But don't forget how rare it will always be. I'll never forget George and his wizard or magicians hat that he wore in the film Magical Mystery Tour. George knew what magic was all about. He was in the middle of the magic that was the Beatles and The Traveling Wilburys. Roy Orbison's song brought back the exact emotional feelings I remember having the first time I heard "Crying" at the age of 6 or 7 while driving home from Medina Lake, just west of my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. After it's all said and done, I really believe The Wilburys was a "gift" delivered by a higher power designed to fit five individual, long established legends, each one a genius in his own right to give each one of them an opportunity to view perfection.
Thank you, George, Jeff, Roy, Tom, and Bob for the music and laughter. What an excellent video!! I ❤️ it! Thank you so much, Olivia, and your producing partner, for this beautiful video of friendship and music 🎶.
June, 1989, I had my first Walkman, I had just begun a one-year around-the-world solo adventure with my guitar, and this album in my ears as the soundtrack. I still remember climbing up to the Acropolis with the Wilburys playing. Will never forget the feeling- it doesn't get any better.
I have loved all these guys equally and individually for so long. When they all came together and formed the Willburys, that was a majic that will never be repeated.
I'm definitely convinced that this was the best band ever. Being compromised of three master songwriters and absolute musical prowess. Excellent songs and just all around good music!
I think that it has just begun and will live forever as the gift of music with the blend of melody and harmony has and always will be part of everyones life as it has always been !!!!
@Rhonda Bothelio they really are brilliant , it will be a long time for another group to be formed like this,,,, and even then I doubt it would be anywhere near as good as this group. Blessed to of had them I think 👈
This is like Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, Koufax, Aaron, Mays, Williams, Musial, Cobb, and Young getting together for a pick up game. Then filming it. Incredible!
Watching this I constantly feel like smiling, and when Roy Orbison sings it converts into tears. What a fantastic band, gathered and formed by a stroke of magic, but never getting pretentious. Who wouldn't love to be the drummer, the sound engineer, or someone just hanging around with these guys? Only two of them left now in this dimension, but some time in the future they'll maybe gather again.
Thought I'd add one for the absolutely brilliant and perfect work of Jeff Lynn- any one of them could have produced this unbelievable gold mine of mind gold, but Jeff was the only producer capable of turning those sessions into some of the finest sounds ever put on tape- I can't remember, was it the kitchen or the dining room that was the vocal/drum booth-no the kitchen was the guitar booth! So much for the notion that you have to record In a multi-million dollar space ! It's the music thst makes the room. Thank you forever Jeff
@@willyrocker4746 - True, and the term 'Wilbury' appeared during the making of Cloud Nine, which also became the fundament for creating the band. Harrison referred to errors from faulty equipment, joking to Lynne: 'We'll bury 'em in the mix'. After that, they used it for any small performance error and more.
Maybe the most treasured band in my soul. So great was this band, that their music is secondary. It’s the people I love. A special group and they hit with their 1st album perfectly-timed when I needed it, age 12. Fortunately, I had an older brother in college who had already schooled me on each individual member, so this thing was just pure magic to me. It still is. I can’t even believe this band happened. Unreal.
So much talent with a diverse background across all genres. It was sad to learn of Roys passing but all credit to George for getting Roys great vocals on tape before he died. It will never be ’The end of the line” for the TW”s. This album is eternal. RIP George & Roy. Thanks for your music and fond memories 🎸😎👍
I love how George says it would never happen and it may have been a full moon that night. Yet we all know it happened because George was inspired and made it happen. Being humble is one of the most required things to be a successful artist.
What a fabulous documentary, so uplifting and so special, five fabulous guys chillin singing having a ball. I cannot think of five better gentleman. What a gift, whoever put this up thank you 🙏 RIP Roy, George and Tom!
Thank you so much for your thoughts. May 2023 The year of the Rabbit and the power of this album change the way our planet can spin what energy °•~\|\|☆♡ . Let's share this with friends & family so we'll share thier creativity
What a great testimony to all of these artist. So surprised that more artist are not doing this kind of co writing and performing. The generosity of spirit and friendship that was passed around was amazing. Growing up in the 60'sand 70s as well as beyond we have so many talents still available today. Watching them I know we took them for granted.
I’ve always loved this song. George tells this story as though it’s the most ordinary thing in the world (to him it was!) - get a few mates together, as you do. “I was having dinner with Roy, and Jeff. I said I’m going into the studio tomorrow, wanna come help? Bob had a studio nearly so I called him and asked to use it, he said yes, come on over. Had to pick up my guitar at Tom’s house so we went to Tom’s and then we all went over to Bob’s”. George, Roy, Jeff, Bob and Tom, a group made up perchance and the title of the song taken from a packing box. ‘Handle with Care’. You couldn’t make this wonderful story up. Thank you
George certainly has a knack for pulling together the most talented and compatible people, and then have them bring out the best in each other. He did a super job putting together " The Concert for Bangladesh", on pretty short notice as I recall. But the "Traveling Wilburys" were a recording group. A super group if ever there was one. And if not for the untimely death of 'LEFTY WILBURY' in late 1988 I'm sure there would be more than just volumes 1 and 3. One can only imagine what other tasty tunes these brothers would have created....and lets not even think about touring!
VERY few musical "artists" have regular names today. They have to have some sort of ghetto sounding childish name. Their pathetic music matches their pathetic names.
"magical" is exactly the right word to explain this group of phenomenal people banding together
It's so sad to know that we no longer have Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Tom Petty with us. But their music will live on for a long, long time.❤️👼

There will NEVER be anything like it again. There isn't a single young musician today that can fill their shoes. Worse, even with all the tech advantages they have 99%of the music turned out stinks.

One of the perks of being a Beatle: You can dine with Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne, phone Bob Dylan to ask to borrow his studio, pick up the guitar you left with Tom Petty and then get them all together to create some music there and then in Dave Stewart's house. What a life...
George was the Beatles, quietly in the background.
Spectacular!!!
So true
Well we fly by night, its like a rocket flight and baby thats just what it's for
As short lived as they were, with the sad and untimely demise of Roy Orbison, I still adore The Traveling Wilburys' music. Sadly now we've also lost George Harrison and Tom Petty. However, the music lives on for old and new generations alike to enjoy. I don't know about anyone else, but I really needed this documentary.
Nice... Check out "Super Session"
Three legendary musicians of another Era.. Also the second Album.. Cooper Session... Trust me!!

Amen brother Ahmet shengenzer you hit it right on the head beautifully done wonderful group of guys love them all very much it's all what rock and roll is all about
Just great people. Magic
we all die. What makes you think that great musicians don't die, too? It's not "tragic." It's life. And death is the way it ends.
Totally agree!!!
Jeff Lynn also had a wonderful voice!
No need for boring Bob Dylan in this band.
@@jaysantos536 - No need for hateful Jay Santos comment...

RIP all.
I saw the Beatles and Roy Orbison at the Kingston Regal in 1963, and they never looked back
Mo mlm
Thanks for that @JohnG . I wasn't aware of the Mystery Girl connection. Time to give it a listen again! Just read Roy was supposed to be the headliner in '63, but with the explosive popularity of the Beatles they became co-headliners. The recently departed dear Gerry Marsden and his Pacemakers also on the bill. You'll never walk alone you guys, thanks for leaving us your music. RIP.

took the words right out of my mouth
Well said
Because they all have such a history in music, and are each super talented, I can respect what they did; but come on, it's melodic pop music and for me that's significantly less important than the ground breaking they did in their respective bands previously.
In Dave Stewart's kitchen, no less. My god, what a collection of genius.

George, my favourite Beatle, my first love, still speaks to us here. Magic!

The quality of the music seems to be a direct reflection of how much fun they genuinely all seemed to be having while recording.
