I've got the Jackson Five, Patrice Rushen, Sly & the Family Stone, & countless other performers to thank for it, too. (Not being sarcastic here) But all these years later I must've forgot what hairy beasts some of 'em really were. A prime example would be Billy Preston & every member of his band, when they performed _Nothing From Nothing_ on a 1973 episode of _Soul Train._ I was truly shocked to see that again! For all I know every one of them was simply wearing a very convincing wig. But Billy? It's hard to tell. Maybe not! 😆
These interviews are only on the American tv networks, that's because the Americans take pop music seriously. Over here we are only interested in X Factor boy band excrement. Thank god we can tune in to the American TV to see this good stuff. Shame on us Brits.
wanderer1955 That’s sort of disappointing to hear actually, I would have thought it was the other way around. I’ve seen bands like Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, and even Toto tour in Europe like crazy, because real music just isn’t embraced by the masses in the U.S. anymore. The mainstream stuff is just computer manufactured crap. Every time I watch a video of an American band playing rock based pop music over there, the crowd is huge, and is going out of their minds! It might be a generational thing, no matter the residing country, which is sad. Music like ELO’s is pure genius and beautiful.

How totally funny!! I did the same thing back when I was a little kid in the late 70's....my older brother was big into ELO and I was just sorta "there" (lol), but I really dug the New World Record album cover and proceeded to draw it on my own...that might've been the only ELO one I drew (I do remember drawing the inside sleeve photos from KC & The Sunshine Band's "3" album), but the one album cover that still amazes me to this day, and likely always will, is Out of the Blue...man that cover art (and the inner sleeve also) is just to die for, it's so ominous and life-like! The graphics and attention to detail on the spaceship for that front cover is amazing.
Jeff Lynne’s Music (ELO-Traveling Wilburys)is incredible and has been part of our lives for more than 5 decades. My favorite Musician, Songwriter and Producer ever. Long live Jeff Lynne's ELO!!!
@Jeff Lynne Jeff, I have been a fan of yours since the 1970's and have really enjoyed watching your videos on RUclips; especially the live concert footage from Wembley Stadium in London back a few years ago.
I'm seriously blown away that he is not more famous than Ozzy Osbourne. Nobody seems to know elo at all in proportion to their work, they know some songs but nobody knows the band. Since I was 10 years old, pink Floyd was my favorite band and Ozzy soon became number 2. But when I found this band and the traveling wilburys (only last year) I realized i might have to push Ozzy down as far as number 4. I believe your explanation is the closest we'll ever get to an answer.

56 years old and I have loved Jeff Lynne and ELO since I was in grade school. His music touches my soul. And now my three kids, now all in their 20’s, are fans of his music having grown up hearing ELO and The Traveling Wilburys. I finally got to see him live in 2019 with my son and it was the best concert I have ever been to. Such a general feeling of happiness in the audience and so many generations represented. I am looking forward to seeing him again this year. Never thought I’d get to see him once, let alone twice! Thank you Jeff for continuing to create and share your music with the world.
Jeff's a genius & his music is timeless. I can't imagine this world without him. May God grant him many more healthy years. Good interview but too short.
Indeed yes. I've heard him say that he's tried many times to learn, but always gives up. To be able to write, play and produce without reading music is, well, enough said.
@Jeff Lynne In the 70's, I had [and still do] all of your vinyl and I would listen to the albums, study the album covers, while I'd copy onto 90 & 120 minute cassettes so I had multiple albums on 1 tape and I could listen in my car. Great for road trips! The cassettes gave way to CD's. I think your Armchair Theatre is a great listen too. Thank you for all of the years of fabulous music enjoyment! I actually feel bad for kids today when I hear what they call music. Some will never know what they have missed. Jeff Lynne and his wonderful music has been a happy constant throughout my life. He TOTALLY is a genius, but so humble and modest. I love that he is still creating these beautiful songs. A gentleman who brings happiness to the world.
I've always liked most types of music, and familiar with a lot of songs, but talk about having my head in the sand. I had heard of ELO, but never realized which songs they did, and the mastery of Jeff Lynne. Truly an amazing and super talented man. After realizing the songs he has written, produced, produced, and performed I am blown away. I'm a true fan of his after decades of being totally out of touch with ELO. This interview, several years ago, reveals what a humble man this music genius is. It's rare and nice.

But ya gotta admit, if his hair were _long & straight_ instead of _long & afro'ed_ he'd be another Cousin It from the _Addam's Family._ Just omit the fangs: 👹
Because it was an everyday fad, I got used to the "super-fro." I've got the Jackson Five, Patrice Rushen, Sly & the Family Stone, & countless other performers to thank for it, too. (Not being sarcastic here)
But all these years later I must've forgot what hairy beasts some of 'em really were. Maybe not! 😆
Nice to see Mr. Lynne doing an interview. He doesn't do that too often.
It helped that this interviewer was really good and made Jeff fell comfortable. I haven't seen Jeff laugh this much in an interview!
@@JimWhitakerMusic The proof of my truth is in the clip.
@@wanderer1955 You're living in a bubble. He's done many interviews in the past 5 years over here in the UK which has filled many venues and stadiums. You just need to know your music and follow when they appear back on the scene
For all his talent and success, he seems like the sort of bloke you could have a pint with down the pub. Top man!
He truly does, and I'll bet it would be the best time ever john
Lynne has never EVER done a bad song. Everything he has written and performed has been GOLD.
Mike B,The Diary of Horace Wimp anybody, what a classic, Yuk.
One of my faves.
@@peternewman3487 yeah but is it just the lyrics you don't like because the music is good.
I actually like Horace Wimp, but the one I can live without? Down Home Town.

We saw Jeff Lynnes ELO 2019 tour in San Jose, had the "time of our life" hope he tours the states again!
I' sure he will.
Id bet that music sound fantastic live
A year ago in Hamburg. Great!
He's on tour again!
I used to draw the album covers when they came out. Now, my teenage son loves Jeff Lynne. I was fortunate to take him to their 2019 concert.
Isn't that amazing? Great share!
Do you have an online gallery of your ELO art and other works?
I love this guy. His music, his voice, his production and his humble ways. A humble genius.
Jeff Lynne’s Music (ELO-Traveling Wilburys)is incredible and has been part of our lives for more than 5 decades. My favorite Musician, Songwriter and Producer ever. Long live Jeff Lynne's ELO!!!
If jeff never sings another note he has gave us a lifetime of music that will be played for generations to come to enjoy thatk you jeff from the heart
It is so cool to see Jeff and ELO getting the recognition they deserve!
@Jeff Lynne You are very welcome, Jeff, and it is an honor to exchange messages with you and I have enjoyed watching your videos on RUclips for years!
@Jeff Lynne Jeff, I have been a fan of yours since the 1970's and have really enjoyed watching your videos on RUclips; especially the live concert footage from Wembley Stadium in London back a few years ago.
@Jeff Lynne I live in the United States, Jeff.
No ELO anymore , but Jeff Lynne all the same
I got tickets to see his new tour (2024) and I can’t wait. I grew up listening to his music and still love it. So glad they’re doing this tour!
Me too!!!❤
Me, too! Tix to see him in October 2024 in Atlanta.
Me too
Seeing him In Nashville
Saw the Indianapolis show. Amazing!
I love Jeff Lynne. One of the absolute greatest to grace the stage and bless us all with his talent
He's so talented and makes it look so easy he's off most people's radar .
That's so true. That's what I like about Jeff Lynne. Effortless.
@@FinkPloyd504 If you love Pink Floyd and ELO I don't see how my favorite band of all time isn't higher on your list. The Beatles!
@@nicholasmaxwell9899 oh they're up there for me too, they definitely had the skill but I gotta factor in my personal preferences. Some bands you just hear too much to really appreciate WHY you hear them so much.
@@FinkPloyd504 Yeah I hear you...Although they do have a ridiculous number of hidden gems. I think their discography is unmatched.
Jeff Lynne is a Godsend musician, really. May he live for a long years ahead. ❤️ from Russia.
Icelandic?
56 years old and I have loved Jeff Lynne and ELO since I was in grade school. His music touches my soul. And now my three kids, now all in their 20’s, are fans of his music having grown up hearing ELO and The Traveling Wilburys. I finally got to see him live in 2019 with my son and it was the best concert I have ever been to. Such a general feeling of happiness in the audience and so many generations represented. I am looking forward to seeing him again this year. Never thought I’d get to see him once, let alone twice! Thank you Jeff for continuing to create and share your music with the world.
Jeff Lynne is one of a kind and we are very lucky...musical genius.
Without a doubt, a truly authentic musical genius. To so many his music resonates deeply within their soul. Count me as one of them. 😎
Mee too and well said. He is that good.
Jeff Lynne + ELO = The Best!

Jeff Lynne is ELO
You deserve all the accolades Jeff. Thank you Jeff Lynne for making the world a brighter place.
The respect and admiration the interviewer shows for Jeff is quite nice!
Still hung on to his Brummie accent bless him.
All round great guy. Deserves all credit and praise.
The Travelling Wilburys. Most joyful band ever.
You could see that they were truly having a blast!
One of the joys of my life: watching my late father and his wife dancing to the Wilbury Twist and cackling away, having a great time. 😊
Straight up. Legendary.
Isn't that truly so? An ensemble of the greatest musicians and singers ever, yet they appeared as friends and always will be.
My life has been so blessed to have Jeff Lynne’s music in my life. Thank you for VetsAid in 2023 and Dallas 2024 concerts.
Saw him this year and not enough words to describe how wonderful the show was...
I did too. One of the best experiences of my life.
Jeff's a genius & his music is timeless. I can't imagine this world without him. May God grant him many more healthy years. Good interview but too short.
The man is a musical legend. He does not get enough mention.
The most shocking thing I've ever heard Jeff say in an interview was, "I can't read/write music, I create by sound and it's served me pretty well."
I think thats true of McCartney too.
There is a young black guy on youtube that listens to music/reviews and has said on several occasions, he was born in the wrong era. He is jealous of all the great music we grew up to. Here is the first he reviewed of EE-LOW. lol. ruclips.net/video/xpvRe07AHTQ/видео.html
@Jeff Lynne Pennsylvania. I've had Armchair Theatre on and when friends think it's over and say what's next, I just end with '...It's still goin' ya know....."
Eyebrow raising, but them, the sound is what it's about.
Still just as brilliant as he was in the 70s and 80s. Jeff, we appreciate your gifts that you have shared with us. Thank you.
The most underrated rock band ever. Sheer genius. I love Jeff Lynne. He's my spirit animal.
Sold over 50 million albums. How is that underated??
Not underrated at all. What rock did you crawl out of that you think that?
Jeff is the man. My very first concert was ELO back in 1978.
I have admire this music for my entire adult life. So much talent in one man.
Jeff Lynne and his E LO are my favorite group. Saw them in concert 2 years ago, they put on the greatest show.
Jeff Lynne and his wonderful music has been a happy constant throughout my life. He TOTALLY is a genius, but so humble and modest. I love that he is still creating these beautiful songs. A gentleman who brings happiness to the world.
Jeff Lynne is the dude. You can tell just by looking him in concert that he is the total boss. He just is
Brings me back to my youth.
'Sweet Talkin' Woman' will always remind me of my high school girl friend.
Some facts about Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. Jeff Lynne is one of the most versatile musicians ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. He didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco.
Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world... 51 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas, festivals and Stadiums. During Jeff Lynne's ELO 2019 Tour, many reviews agreed in saying they are the best live Classic Rock Band in the world still touring and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius( From Forbes Magazine and the Washington Post).
ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Songwriter award ( ASCAP ) in 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He previously has received three Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, including the award for outstanding services to British music.
He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and so many others...

Jeff Lynne is a genius, and my most favorite artist in the world! I listen to his music almost daily.
And a humble and modest individual, as well.
Thank you CBS Sunday Morning, ELO is one of my favorites!
Over the past month or so, I've totally fallen in love with Lynne's music, and had even talked so much about his music that a friend of mine kinda got tired of hearing me talk about him. Then this interview came on this morning. Now she wants to hear more. lol
Unmatched. No one comes close. Simply the greatest of all time.
Always been a huge fan of ELO. One year in 1980 I was Jeff Lynne for a Halloween party and nobody knew who he was....they knew all of the music though!

ELO IS TALENT SO BLESS SO MUCH TO OFFER 😊❤!!!!!
I have loved Jeff since late 70s. Go bless him.
Jeff Lynne is not only a great artist he is also a decent person. He is always collaborating with other artists and doing charity events. No big ego like other rock icons.
I just happened to catch this on CBS the other day because I rolled over on my remote in bed, I never watch CBS, but this was a great blessing!
It’s crazy I am not a fan of the Beatles but I feel ELO is the spiritual sibling and sequel to The Beatles lol and I love ELO As I have gotten older in my musical journey I now realize how much of a genius Jeff Lynne is
jmissle I used to feel that way about the Beatles, but I’m converted. They are actually great!!
I wish that the Beatles had never broken up in 1970. Imagine a musical rivalry between them and ELO in the 1970's? Then add Queen & Pink Floyd into that mix.
Same here. I fell in love with a band called Wings in the 70’s ❤️ and then the Brothers Gibb 🇬🇧🇦🇺
We’ll be in Atlanta Georgia in October 2024. Can’t wait. Watched his Wembley concert from a few years ago. Amazing after all these years.
I love Jeff and ELO!!!
This interview ánd overview is r e a l l y beautiful and heart-warming!

Must be sure though, I'm dealing really, with my musical hero...the man who changed my life, since halfway the 70's! Hopefully You will ever be able to give any confirmation...would be so kind!
