My husband has always said that the beauty of the Wilburys was that there were never any egos that got in the way of what they were doing and I reckon he's right. 5 guys who had respect for each others talent which never diminished. R.I.P. George, Tom & Roy.
Avril Richardson - couldn’t agree with your husband more! 👍
Spot on.
RIP George, Roy and Tom. We are down to two Wilburys. 😢
Don't forget their cousin Buster Sidebury who played drums on all the tracks as Jim Keltner.
PinkLaffs Two Wiburys who are not particulary close, Jeff and Bob are not the closest of friends, sure they worked together and i am sure they got along well to a point but Jeff was the closest to the now three late Wilburys. Dylan is an odd Character, you ever notice he was the only Wilbury never to do any interviews
George, Roy and Tom bob geff the drummer is 6 George, Roy and Tom ohave sadly passed away leaves 6 you need to learn count
Death sucks
@@lestatmacway892 Yeah, but God needs some great people by his side as well. And it’s probably for the best for them.
The affection both Jeff and Tom had for George Harrison comes across powerfully in this interview. And the humourous guy they describe is so different than the crabby old curmudgeon most biographies I've read tend to paint George as.
And Roy , you can tell they were all star struck with Roy
What impressed me the most was the amount of talent, and singing together their were no egos, they
werereally having a great time singing as a group.
Amen - impossible to get these kinda stars of today's time to be as sincere and egoless as these legends were just having fun and genuinely in awe of each other.
@@bewitzmadman it was impossible back then as well, but it happened somehow
Please Jeff Lynne's ELO Tour in 2023! The world needs your music more than ever. And bring Dhani Harrison on Tour to play Handle with care with you again.
Oh listen to your records and just relax about it
@@Vibeagain Stupid remark Jeff toured 2 or 3 years ago. His Tour was sold out and the reviews were fantastic. So he can Tour in 2023, i will go anywhere to see him again.
The most authentic musical group in rock history.
God bless you Tom it was a horrible day when you passed away who will miss you and love you
Yes, it hits hard. If it wasn’t for Tom I don’t think I would have dove into the TW.
One of the best supergroups ever. No egos, just five extremely talented blokes having fun creating timeless music. How lucky are we to be able to enjoy it ? 😉
Great friends who happened to be famous that made great music
Plus all the fan bases getting together generating massive revenue.
I listen to these so often. It really was magic. They'd all made their successes and this was reaping their rewards, justly deserved, and having fun while doing it was the cherry on top!! Humbled, each of them.
RIP George Roy and TOM you are dearly missed. Jeff Lynne, you are one of the best musicians ever and the best producer ever. Friendship and great chemistry with no egos made the traveling Wilburys the best supergroup ever.
The Wilburys were a super band before the idea of a super band existed. Roy’s voice was so soothing.
The Traveling Wilburys is a wonderful exclusive Roy-Orbison-Fanclub!!! So much admiration for each other.
Four of the very best singer-songwriters, performers, and just plain good people! What a legacy...
Are you purposely dissing one of the FIVE by leaving him out, or do you have trouble counting?
@@Cosmo-Kramer it's Dylan... The most overrated performer of all time... my math is fine
Being in a band with your best mates must be one of the greatest human experiences ever.
Been a fan of Jeff and Tom from the very begining, the 2nd album I ever bought with money from my first job, ELO in 1975. Memories.
Legends! Legends! Legends! All of them. God bless you all. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Tom, YOU touched a lot of people! I loved working your shows and you will be influencing new musicians forever. This world just isn't the same without you. Thank you for your music and special thanks to The Heartbreakers. What a great band.
The imagery of what Tom described here of how he first heard about it, of Jeff coming over his house and running inside exclaiming, *_"We're going to start a band!",_* is beyond delightful.
Even though I did listen to the Wilburys album when it came out, I was still far too young to understand how monumental it was to have a group with Bob, Jeff, Tom, George and Roy...I didn't know what icons these guys even were...such amazing stuff 🔥
Rest easy Nelson, Lefty, and Charlie T. Wilbury Jr.
I lovetheTravelingWilbyrys. It broke my heart when TomPettydied: I was real deep into his music, and GeorgeHarrison’s music sincetnelate 1960’s.(/He was in my book the most interesting of the Fab Four .
Think about this... 5 incredible talents getting together, they were all superstars, but no egos, just great music. And we’ve now lost 3 of them.
How fricking awesome is that.. Tom has a "The Traveling Wilbury's" pin on his jacket! That's great!
Always a stylish fellow, our Tom
The Wilburys only left with Jeff and Bob...lets take good care of them... #RIPGeorgeRoyTom
Dang.
I thought these two wonderfully talented musicians were going to spill the beans on how to consistently write such magical songs.
What a gift! Love these guys so much! RIP Tom, You were the coolest.
they were a gift
George lives on with our thoughts. i am glad he was here to leave his mark. Peace and Love.:)
ELO and tom petty and the heart breakers ,is two of my all time best bands ,real legends
What an emotional album.Roy passing away and the album keeps going, the rocking chair and the song End of the line.George is such a great leader.
The specter of sunrise, capturing the moon's shadow, parallels the Traveling Wilburys' brief magical collaboration and bliss, joined in (who could have ever predicted) harmony, as one of the rarest, and most inspiring new bands, in all of Rock-n-Roll's history. I am a lifetime fan of Roy & George, and I miss them both to this day. I am also very thankful to Jeff, Tom, Bob, and the rest of the gang behind the scenes, for their talent and commitment to making this band a reality. My sincere regards. Peace :)
I will always cherish the traveling wilburys. Thanks , guys. 😇😇😇😇
peace Tom , we will always have ya but you have will always have us too. your gone but not far .
emily mclaughlin Beautiful comment,
Wish now, i'd placed your sentiment somehow...
within what i whittled out a few days ago on 10-3-17
"We will go to them, but they will no longer come to us.
'The Waiting' then, is for our times to come, to where they can." 10917
Your absolutely right about Tom when you wrote... your gone but not far.
Legends
What a group that got together by shear accident. All legends, with great unexpected harmonies. Hard to believe three are gone, all leaving the world on top. RIP Roy, George and now Tom. Bob and Jeff stay strong. Loved this Group. Today's artists need to take note and learn from these guys, on how it's done at a professional level with staying power.
I've been a fan of all of them for years and years. What an awesome vocal mix. Everyone brought a piece of their success to the group.
Some things you can’t put in a bottle, to keep forever. My kids when they were young, Elvis, the Beatles, Traveling Wilburys, eHank Williams Sr, Ernest Tubb, my Mom n Dad. The sense of yearning though is always to capture the moment, save it and hug it forever.
The Wilbury’s album was fantastic. I mean George, Bob, Roy, Jeff and Tom. Jeez man such great songwriters and talented musicians to boot. Damn I hate that 3 of them are gone now. Would’ve loved to have heard what they could’ve done or written.
RIP Tom.
jeff is a god
It took me a second but I put Jeff at 33 and a half and I put Tom at 90. They combine at any speed as do Their travelling companions! My pleasure to be alive as to grow up with all the beautiful diversity. And like Mr. Tom Petty relays, "We all sound good together.".
My favorite group ever. I'm 51.
THER IS FANTASTIC, WE LIKE SO MUCH……
YOU ARE A GENIUS JEFF !!!!!
I feel fortunate to have lived in this era, where I’ve shared this earth in such a short span of our human existence with so many greats. R.I.P.

I’m not sad because Tom Petty is gone, but smile cause he was here. And saved. Given last rites while in a coma before death. God wanted a rocker with Him forever.
I can’t know for sure but I always thought Jeff was main songwriter in that group especially when you realise he co-wrote “ FREE FALLING “for Tom &
“ YOU’VE GOT IT “ for Roy …. There biggest hits for years
Love those guys - all of them...
"End Of The Line" my son was about 2 years old we were at a bank last in line & that song popped into my head I started to sing it & was met with approval 👍
FOR ME IT WAS THE 'YOU ARE MY FAVORITE', THEN IT WAS THE HEARING THE HARMONIZING .. I WAS HOOKED!
The wilburys, what a bunch of cool dudes.
It's so odd without George 😭😭😭
It's really odd without Tom
It's not odd it's heartbreaking 😢
It is always Great when you sing from your Heart!!!!!
This was an epic Musical Moment. These guys coming together and just making music. Thanks for whatcha did!!🎶🎵🎶
They were all ego less, all great gentlemen. THEY WERE GODS BAND
@markand...
Almighty God's Band...with Zimmerman? 😮
If only that could be true...😢
Love of music
GH WAS THE DRIVING FORCE
Roy tom and George jamming hard in heaven . Such talent just amazing rip
Oh,such fun - musically and personally.
Thank you so much for the gifts you've left us
Man I miss these guys, dying sucks
So natural icons doing somethimk they all loved
Best Super Group. Ever.
thank you for these great insights. i appreciate your effort,
A great Rock and Roll story...thanks
Someone who is on the Wilbuys camp, say to George Harrison familly to release this items: Live in Japan DVD, Dark Horse Tour DVD/CD and Early Takes Vol 2.
What ever happened to Vol. 2? I can’t find it anywhere
@@JohnSmith-wv5km There never was a Vol 2 -- that was part of the joke -- they went straight from Volume 1 to Volume 3. George joked with an interviewer that if they ever did a 3rd album, they'd probably call it Volume 13-B.
God bless tom rip God bless my dear friend
i play Tweeter , handle me .. regularly . just good fun real songs.
The Traveling Willbury's,were the best band put together overnight by 5 musicians Jeff Lynn off E.L.O,Bob Dillon,Tom Petty,Roy Orbison & George
The Group was a very Blessed And Miss
The very first time I heard their first album I felt like I knew all the words to the songs. Of course I didn't but the flow of everything was just perfect and every sound and every word was the only possible sound or word that it could be. It was really magical.
they made some great music
One of those things that affirms my Faith in God...
Thanks for the interview. Hope you guys are still making sense to the world?!?
I saw a documentary on VH1 about 30yrs ago. It was a Rockumentary! Tom Petty was talking about the Wilbury’s. Tom said that they would write something and then ask Roy Nonchalantly to try this song first. Roy would sing and Roy wasn’t the best musician or songwriter within the group. He did write some 😮songs and had the most beautiful voice.
As a small kid Grew up fantasising about being a member of THE BEATLES or being BOB DYLAN but then I became an adult & fantasised about being a member of THE TRAVELLING WILBURYS 😂😂
That lp came out right and wished I could of more with Roy mind you.
What impresses me is how stoned they are and aren't thinking of munchies.. 😂

Rest in peace, Tom.
Kids... Don't smoke.
Jeff Lynne is so underrated. He is the equal of Paul Simon.
great
Tom, I love your music and may you rest in peace, but dear God man, your speaking voice is putting me to sleep.

I get really torn up when I think of the best together in their special band...the traveling willburys.
i got two mag wheels for my car and stuck them both on the same side of the car. no one knew till they walked around to the other side of the car.
did that with junkyard factory mags...
tom pettys music isnt my favorite as good at they are, but tom has always been what cool is all about.
more so than my favorite bands
George Harrison was a Beatle, aircraft Carrier was totally doable!
🙂🎶✌🏼
Can't beat a Guinness and smoke session writing tunes and getting stoned I use to love it,
Sarcasm so excellent in concrete nell
what if Jeff and Bob did an album now?
"There are artist who wrest us up, & place us into themselves.
These are the 'One's' who continue to wrest us up...
Even beyond their rests in peace!"
Stay thirsty for these 'One's' my friends... for they are the currencies of Heaven. 10917
Roger McGuinn should have been part of the Wilburys... would have really made the band... and as everybody knows, The Byrds were a huge influence on Tom Petty

She grew up in an Indiana town
Had a good lookin' momma who never was around
But she grew up tall and she grew up right
With them Indiana boys on an Indiana night
Well she moved down here at the age of eighteen
She blew the boys away, it was more than they'd seen
I was introduced and we both started groovin'
She said, "I dig you baby but I got to keep movin' on, keep movin' on"
Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
Tired of this town again
Well I don't know but I've been told
You never slow down, you never grow old
I'm tired of screwing up, I'm tired of goin' down
I'm tired of myself, I'm tired of this town
Oh my my, oh hell yes
Honey put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song
Take me as I come 'cause I can't stay long
Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
Tired of this town again
There's pigeons down on Market Square
She's standin' in her underwear
Lookin' down from a hotel room
Nightfall will be comin' soon
Oh my my, oh hell yes
You've got to put on that party dress
It was too cold to cry when I woke up alone
I hit the last number, I walked to the road
Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
Tired of this town again

When the time gets right, I’m gonna pick you up
And take you far away from trouble, my love
Under a big ole sky, out in a field of green.
There’s gotta be something left for us to believe.
Oh, I await the day
Good fortune comes our way
And we ride down the Kings Highway, hey yeah!
No, you can’t hide out in a six-gun town.
We wanna hold our heads up, but we gotta stay down.
I don’t wanna end up in a room alone,
Don’t wanna end up someone that I don’t even know.
Lover, I await the day
Good fortune comes our way
And we ride down the Kings Highway, hey yeah!
- Instrumental Break -
Yeah, I await the day
Good fortune comes our way
And we ride down the Kings Highway, hey yeah!
Yeah, I await the day
Good fortune comes our way
And we ride down the Kings Highway, hey yeah!
Kings Highway, Lyrics by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne
