WRONG. Your rights can be denied and suppressed, but they are still your natural rights, given to you by Father God and/or Mother Nature (depending on your personal belief system). MLK fought for his natural rights, and the rights of others too. He didn't just succumb to fatalism and give up and say, "oh well, there goes my privileges!"

Trumpism has mutated the GOP in to such a monstrosity that it has now become a genuine threat to the constitutional democracy set in place by our founders.

What's happening in Florida right now to their Orange county residents is a dam shame. The dictator wannabe has signed a handful of bills that will cost Florida 86,000 jobs and 1 of 2 of Americas premiere attractions that brings Florida billions in revenue will ALL GO BYE BYE. Thought Repubs were against BIG Government in their lives. Looks like that once proud tradition of keeping the checks n balances in place by always rallying against big Government, have now realized they can just use BIG GOVERNMENT to suppress 1 of only 2 genders created by God and placing their foots on WOMENS THROATS AGAIN. Acting as if the statement the Cultists like to pretend is true when its almost the biggest lie in all of history. It goes like this ... " If A Woman is getting raped , all she has to do is shut down the 👶 maker " 😂 that's the INSANE LOGIC these bozos use for letting the man sluts off the hook & simultaneously PUNISH WOMEN HARSHLY with super long prison sentences just because she has the right to make that choice. THAT IS AN OBVIOUS LIE and just flat out engaging in propaganda. Its no different that republicans painting the entire democrat party as BLM rioters. STOP with the lies and distortions against half the country. Bill loses credibility when he pushes this dishonest narrative.
Conservatives wants fair voting like we had since the civil rights era, not mass vote by mail and drop boxes nonsense that suddenly sprung up in 2020 that make illegal activity and voting way too easy and impossible to track or prove. If most people are too lazy to get out and physically cast a vote then they should not be voting. Mail in ballots should be reserved only for special circumstances and done with checks and balances. And NO, we are not a "democracy", we are a constitutional republic that votes state by state and district by district. Understanding that is basic jr high civics that used to be taught in schools up until the last 20 years. The founders NEVER intended a pure democracy becuase its a path to totalitarian socialist states.

I don't understand. This has nothing to do with education. My grandparents off the boat on Ellis Island weren't educated and neither were my parents who grew up during the depression. My grandparents understood enough to make the trip out to the states for that ideal and opportunity. My father fought in WWII. They understood.

As I see it, our democracy is in serious danger from 1) a largely uninformed and apathetic populace, and 2) serious institutional flaws which seem nearly impossible to rectify, which more and more stack the deck against the rational majority, pull our discourse toward extremes in lieu of free debate and compromise, and enable patently unfit, unqualified individuals be elected to high office.
Regarding the latter - can someone tell me please why there are no apolitical qualifications for holding office? Every other profession has qualifications - I'm sure many of you like me have been made to jump through hoops year after year by institutional bureaucracies to continually prove baseline ability. Just for example, does anyone really believe our former president could have listed the Bill of Rights, or even the branches of government? Seriously, I doubt he could have given so much as the numbers for either category.
Any attempt to restrict voting - even if well-intentioned, say to give more power to informed citizens - could of course lend itself to tremendous abuse. And ideally, this is exactly why it's so vital we take active steps to combat ignorance, and seek to produce a well-informed, civic-minded populace educated in democratic responsibility.
But in the meantime, why do our politicians, whether prospective or incumbent, get a free pass? It is not political bias to demand fundamental knowledge as a foundation for competence in leadership.
(P.S. Thanks to all out there who have used this thread to engage in civil debate and sharing of ideas, as opposed to pointless personal attacks and irrelevant nastiness. It's always great to see people converse online like actual adults!)

But you are right, the US is becoming closer to the kind of anarchy that exists in Russia. Trump openly talked about wanting to do away with term limits....for him. Thats what Putin did. Putin gave himself more powers, in the US every election has seen the President increase their use of executive orders, which is sort of OPPOSITE to the ideals of democracy. The Swiss president actually has NO authority and is used to only greet visiting dignitaries.
Democracy ALWAYS goes from the bottom up. The growth of ANY democracy would be increasing the use of democratic tools. That happened in about half the states which brought in citizens initiatives after seeing how well they work in Switzerland. What was barely reported in the US was that Utah had a referendum where the people voted to legalize cannabis. The Utah government outrightly rejected their own referendum and refused. THAT is outright fascism, and yet it was never even mentioned in most media.

And anyone protesting the war in Ukraine is jailed. Russian kids are being indoctrinated into the cult of Putin. That sounds more like fascism (or Stalinism) and a dictatorship. And yeah, the complacent “non-political” Russian people have allowed this all to get to this point by letting Putin amass so much power and amend their Constitution.

Sixty years ago when I was in grade school, we were taught about how lucky we were to live in a country where the founding fathers established a democratic republic enabled by a constitution, the rule of law, the peaceful transfer of power, and the right to vote. Now, as I look forward to casting my precious, precious vote in the next election, I must contemplate how that vote may be overturned or disregarded by a partisan state legislature thanks to mechanisms being put in place to address nonexistent problems posited by people who feel we can ill afford the "luxury" of democracy. It's enough to make me sit on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial like Jefferson Smith, weeping over the cynical dismantling of the most remarkable system of government ever conceived in the history of mankind.

I think you need to look at the last election there were several "measures" were put in place by local officials to allow "safe" voting due to the pandemic. Drive up voting, enhanced absentee voting. No ID voting all items put in place by local election officials. Its a balance to regulate voting and keep rights intact. That is where there is disagreement but to characterize a side as against democracy or the republic because they want to establish rules around voting seems to be one sided and disingenuous.

    • @jazzfan6
      @jazzfan6 2 года назад +1

@@MrRjsnowden Let me begin by thanking you for the civility and even-handedness of your reply.
The "measures put in place by local officials" certainly inspired widespread hue and cry over the potential for voter fraud significant enough to alter the outcome of our last presidential election, yet despite multiple audits, court challenges, investigations of specific fraud allegations , etc. (pursued to a heretofore unprecedented degree), no evidence of such widespread voter fraud was ever found. Nonetheless, certain state legislatures pressed ahead with (frequently onerous) "rules around voting" ostensibly intended to address this nonexistent fraud. Guess what? I can live with that, but for one exception: several states have proposed laws that would permit state legislatures to simply disregard the popular vote in presidential elections and substitute their own slate of electors more or less at will. That is 'anti-democratic' in and of itself.

To deny that the Republican Party is not pursuing an anti-democratic agenda at this point is disingenuous or ignorant. They have become traitors and anti-American. All the forms of voting you mentioned required an I.D. before they were registered on the electoral role. In a perfect system federalized system, then everything would be run the government, but because it is a state based system, local officials are audited and subject to oversight and that is how it is. Don't pretend that if there "is" anything untoward happening on one side it's not happening on the other. It was just about investigating a hack to a political party from a foreign power, which Trump refused to do and seemed to endorse, because his massive ego would not allow for transparency. He foresaw the protections created against it being eroded the exact same way they were. By using fear and promising that if we give up our rights, they will be able to protect us. But the danger passes and the rights don't get restored. Of course, they never could have protected us anyways, no government can protect you better then you can protect you. This last pandemic should have taught us that, it was caused by our government. He understood that the government itself was the biggest threat. That's why he wrote it the way he did. Before the government can take full control it has to eliminate the bill of rights. Or else those rights will shut down the government. Free Speech and right to bear arms are numbers 1 and 2, which ones are the ones under assault right now?

it's a Democratic (adj) REPUBLIC (n) We have a Representative government not mob rule. Why?
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”
