I feel like part of the reason we Americans have such low voter turnout, despite how we may feel about various issues, is that there is a sense of hopelessness that comes with being 'sane'. Anyone who is rational, middle-minded and who doesn't see the word 'compromise' as some kind of derogatory remark looks at our options for leadership and thinks "I don't want any of these people, but I am not given any other options, these 2 parties are so big that there is no real choice... one of these 2 will win." On the far right, integrity and accountability is a laughable concept. These people are brain damaged, criminals, sex offenders, hypocrites and religious fanatics that want to rule the senate and the courts with an iron fist to push their ideology. At the same time they sell themselves to big business, big pharma, big oil, and engage in backroom deals to continue consolidation of power and wealth to a small percentage of the population. They continually allow the destruction of our environment, despite very clear warnings that our world will literally become unrecoverably damaged by human pollution within 50 years. On the far left, shame itself doesn't exist anymore, no criticism can be levied against unacceptably ridiculous behavior, and everything becomes about individual choice and freedom to 'be' whatever a person wants to be, even if it forces cognitive dissonance on literally everyone else. At the same time, because they are so disorganized and all focus on individual agendas instead of rallying behind larger issues, they spend all their time trying to protect individual freedoms and win on a case-by-case basis rather than applying blanket changes to the way our government or legal systems actually work. I mean no not really. Republicans have been trying to make abortion illegal for 50 years? Trying to deregulate corporations for 50 years? Trying to legislate Christianity into as much as possible for decades? The Republican party agenda is pretty similar to what it's always been. Walker will vote to make abortion illegal and that's what conservatives (most conservatives at least) want. Democrats haven't figured out yet that it's irrelevant how good on paper you are as a person or candidate, all that matters is winning so you can get more votes for the policy your party wants to pass. The district I live in, the Democrat state house candidate is a former fireman, who both he and his dad also served in the US Navy, and comes from a family of both military and fire experience. If you see some of the comments on his facebook posts, it's literally people calling him an unamerican communist and saying they'll never vote for him. I feel like part of the reason we Americans have such low voter turnout, despite how we may feel about various issues, is that there is a sense of hopelessness that comes with being 'sane'. Anyone who is rational, middle-minded and who doesn't see the word 'compromise' as some kind of derogatory remark looks at our options for leadership and thinks "I don't want any of these people, but I am not given any other options, these 2 parties are so big that there is no real choice... one of these 2 will win."
On the far right, integrity and accountability is a laughable concept. These people are brain damaged, criminals, sex offenders, hypocrites and religious fanatics that want to rule the senate and the courts with an iron fist to push their ideology. At the same time they sell themselves to big business, big pharma, big oil, and engage in backroom deals to continue consolidation of power and wealth to a small percentage of the population. They continually allow the destruction of our environment, despite very clear warnings that our world will literally become unrecoverably damaged by human pollution within 50 years.
On the far left, shame itself doesn't exist anymore, no criticism can be levied against unacceptably ridiculous behavior, and everything becomes about individual choice and freedom to 'be' whatever a person wants to be, even if it forces cognitive dissonance on literally everyone else. At the same time, because they are so disorganized and all focus on individual agendas instead of rallying behind larger issues, they spend all their time trying to protect individual freedoms and win on a case-by-case basis rather than applying blanket changes to the way our government or legal systems actually work. They never make 'real change' they just keep redefining things until their individual agenda passes through.
Both sides have found a method to completely invalidate scandal. The republicans simply deny it, regardless of how much proof there is and bury it in distractions. The democrats simply argue that shame shouldn't exist and then turn around to attack anyone who tries to say anything, and flood the media with body politics and individual rights rhetoric.

The biggest problem with that is it is so ingrained in the US political system that even if it was outlawed they would still do it. I mean no not really. Republicans have been trying to make abortion illegal for 50 years? Trying to deregulate corporations for 50 years? Trying to legislate Christianity into as much as possible for decades? The Republican party agenda is pretty similar to what it's always been. Walker will vote to make abortion illegal and that's what conservatives (most conservatives at least) want. Democrats haven't figured out yet that it's irrelevant how good on paper you are as a person or candidate, all that matters is winning so you can get more votes for the policy your party wants to pass. The district I live in, the Democrat state house candidate is a former fireman, who both he and his dad also served in the US Navy, and comes from a family of both military and fire experience. If you see some of the comments on his facebook posts, it's literally people calling him an unamerican communist and saying they'll never vote for him.
Republican policy hasn't changed much, the candidates have just gotten more obvious about what they support and gotten more stereotypical. I'd be willing to bet the average Republican voter would vote in 60 convicted murderers to the US senate if it meant getting abortion illegal, and if that's their political goal, they'd not care about how bad the candidates themselves were.

Actually the point was about the left. Walker, as he pointed out, basically has two brain cells, and they are fighting each other to the death. Please, however, do not fail to notice that the left does do things which are as stupid and extreme, and has a righteousness about it's actions that many apparently find unpalatable. A better point could be that it is time people started talking to one another about real problems that they can solve as a community. No solution will be perfect, and everyone will be slightly unhappy, but there will be a solution if only there can be a compromise. Bill has on his agenda the idea, IMHO, that while each side comes up with clever shit, as does Bill, (there is always a good joke to be had), he does in fact walk the walk of talking to people who don't seem to have the same religion as some of the people on the progressive left. But if the so-called progressive left cannot communicate to the "ignorant" why they are derisive of a particular position or policy, or why they actively hate someone, or even why they think the way they do they might as well not attempt to join the party at all. More explanation, less condemnation. I know that this argument won't hold it's water. You are speaking to a friend: you explain things in the shorthand way. You have a shared language. If you are trying to speak to someone like a child as a schoolteacher you will have to explain it in a way that is unmistakable as to it's meaning, and you will find it annoyingly difficult. Take stock in who is listening and how they are able to interpret it.
