I am a First Generation American. I came to this country (legally) from Nigeria in 2004. America has NO IDEA how lucky it is. You are all beyond blessed. Your country has every type of weather and landscape. Your country has had no major wars on it since the 1860's. You have so many jobs that I see restaurants closed because they can't find workers. Do you know how unusual that is? Anyone willing to do hard work here can find a job. Even if someone is broke here, you have welfare and shelters and kitchens with free food. Nobody starves to death here. If you don't like the laws, you can go to a different state where laws are different and more favourable for you. You can be man or woman, black or white, even straight or gay, from any family or ethnicity, and most people respect you if you carry yourself with honour. You can practice all religions or no religion, and people respect your choice in these matters. No matter who is president they must leave after 8 years and after 4 if the citizens choose. Police are held to such high standards that if any are caught on camera doing wrong, there are national protests 24/7 media coverage of the wrongdoing. In much of Africa, the police are a gang you pay off to leave you alone. If a husband here brutalizes his wife or children, he can be arrested. In many places this is accepted. If there are chemicals found in your water or rivers, there is huge outcry on the news. In many places in Nigeria the rivers flow with trash and oil. You all simply do not know. It is not just Nigeria. Much of the world would give anything to have what you take for granted. And all you do is fight with each other over differences that seem big to you because all the big things are going so well that you have nothing else to justify your hatreds.
As I just told another person on here, I think a lot of forces want people to think there's a big difference between someone like you and my grandparents coming from Ireland in the 1920s. I think it's BS and our melting pot tradition is worth defending. Appreciate the perspective.
Thank you for your brilliant comment...I appreciate it ...Im an American and I for one know how blessed I was to be born here...even though was poor now I have an unbelievable house because of hard work...I agree...that most Americans dont seem to appreciate opportunities bestowed them..its disheartening...
My man! Thank you for the post as it was a pleasure reading it. I tell my kids that they are 1%ers. There are almost 8 Billion people in this world and we have it better than almost all of them! How freaking great is that? Yet, we find a way to bitch about EVERYTHING. I believe that we have it so damn good that people have to invent crap to bitch about. The non-western world doesn’t even have time to laugh at our stupidity because they are busy trying to survive and like you alluded to…find clean water to drink!
Hi - I am first generation too. My mom would tell me how if she had stayed in war torn London (after WWII) as a member of the lower-classes the best she could have hoped for was to own a tea shop. In America she earned her PhD at the age of 70 from UCLA! She became a real estate broker and made lots of money with an apartment building! She and my Polish Dad came here legally and worked. My mom taught until the age of 80. My dad continued to work into his 70's as an engineer. He achieved a middle-class lifestyle after coming to America with only $500 to his name. Immigrants strive and achieve.
I went to the wedding of a friend from high school two years ago, and her parents came to the United States from China a few decades ago, and during the father's wedding speech he went on a detour about how thankful he was to the US for taking his family in and giving them the opportunities that it has, and how proud he was to be an American citizen now. Not at all what I was expecting to hear during the wedding speech, but man if it wasn't heartfelt.
@@lovetownsend I think you mean 1 in 40, or 1/40 which is 2.5%. That would be a ratio of the US population versus the world population. 1/40% would be 0.025%, or 1 in 4000 (or 1/4000). If you account for relative birth rates, the number is less than 1 in 40, but not anywhere as low as 1 in 4000. That low a probability would mean that the fertility everywhere else needs to be 100x what it is in the USA.
I never met in the US a single first-generation immigrant who said a single bad word about the country, even if they were US Muslims fed up with the police and the FBI constant supervision. they have frustrations, but they will never say it to a stranger openly.
The Republicans have been disdainful since at least the early 90’s. I remember my dad watching Rush Limbaugh and an episode where someone hung a dummy with a Bill Clinton mask by a noose on a tree and sic’d his attack dog on it. Theyve been calling me a communist traitor (despite not even knowing wtf communism even is) all of my life. Fuck them. I dont want reconciliation, I want the Democrats to do their jobs, live up to their promises and beat these fascist, religious lunatics.
That's what happens when a certain party keep electing the same 50+ year career corrupt politicians. One party has tried something different. The American people are waiting for the other party to try something different...
That's called the internet. Almost nobody would act that way in person. People DO still like one-another regardless of politics when people just SHUT THE FUCK UP.
By this logic, all of Europe is stolen land, too. It just happened so long ago that we can no longer tell the difference between the descendants of thieves and those of the victims.
I'm an immigrant, proud of it, I became a US Citizen, proud of it, and I could not agree more with this video. What do I like (love) about America? 1) the people. 2) the opportunity it provides to be happy and to pursue your dreams. Do I see America - or it's history - as perfect? No, but honestly I wouldn't be able to point out a country that is perfect.
We are a country of immigrants, that and our ideation of freedom are what makes us exceptional, even if we haven't always lived up to those freedoms I am a proud American
You as a immigrant are looked up to and are allowed to be proud, those of us who have ancestors here are spit upon and called extremists and racists if we claim to be proud. That's the whole damn point
You know who still loves America Bill? ME and everyone in the “middle” that doesn’t align with the far left or far right-and there are MILLIONS of us. 🇺🇸
You and me both! I love being in the middle and looking at the ridiculous side of the left and right. Sadly both sides have good ideas that would work best for all of us if we could find common ground.
I find it insulting that you would assume someone who is on the left wouldn’t love this country. Being OK with gay people and loving America isn’t mutually exclusive. Only 6-8% of people are extreme.
Bill possesses that one quality that seems to evade so many these days: understanding nuance. Nothing is ever black and white. Bills been a social critic of America longer than I've been alive yet still understands that through all its flaws, America is one of, if not the best countries in the world to live, work and love.
Except there is no nuance in his argument. He blames the GOP for everying. Like the good little Democrate that he is. Jan 6th riots? Did we suddenly forget the 'summer of love' where antifi and BLM razed half the country in protest over George Floyd? Who was a repeat criminal offender and a drug user.
haha and your dumb enoguht to belive that his part of the crowd that told you the 4 yrs trump was in ofice that the riots were "summers of love" and you were dumb enought to belive him
Except when it comes to anything related to Trump, including the January 6th riot he keeps insisting was a "coup". There his "nuance" and logic go completely out the window because he suffers from a raging case of TDS.
I've been saying it for years, FB, twitter, instagram-these guys gave microphones to the crazies and now we all think our country supposedly sucks. It doesn't. It's not perfect, but we the people should stop listening to people who want us to hate our neighbor. I listen closely to the candidates. When one says: 'You need to watch out for THEM" I know that that person has another agenda that has nothing to do with a more perfect union. Listen for the calls to unity, equality, and the better parts of our country. Cheers.
Crazy progressives think everyone agrees with them except for a few rabid Trump supporters, and the Trump supporters also think everyone out there is a psycho progressive. Social media should be destroyed.
This was the most inspiring and down to the core truthful monologue I've heard yet on your show and any other show. After hearing everything you said I am ready to see America change course and be not "great again" but truly greater than it's ever been!
I would like to see the 1% done away with. Does that make me a bad person? Or does that make you the bad person for imagining what I meant by saying "done away with"?🤔
My wife is from Mexico and we recently went to visit her family. And the last part of this segment is so true. Her mother went through hell to get her daughter here. And people here complain about such little and insignificant things. People from this country really need to travel more, it makes it hard for me to feel pity for people who complain about life here.
You see it as “complaining” but from a different perspective it’s arguing over how your home is ran, what legacy your national family will have and how our children are raised. Honestly doesn’t really sound like little things.
@@HeckOffCommie I think their point is the things we complain about show how much privilege we all have in this country. First world problems are pretty insignificant to people who have lived through third world problems.
Well, everybody has their own personal problems and it is nobody’s business to judge. There are countries in the world, who can barely find clean water to drink. Does it mean your wife’s problems are less worrisome than theirs?
@@Aya-Nancy I mean, it depends on what your wife’s problems are. If she’s stressed about being over worked, then yeah, The problem of trying to find fresh water is obviously more worrisome. If she has cancer on the other hand, well that could be placed as just as worrisome.
HONESTLY... Bill is 100% right!!!! I am an Argentinian immigrant and I love this country, I know it has problems and we should all work really hard to fix them.... TOGETHER! But at least I know that America will always move foward and for the most part in the right direction! I am grateful for living in this country, and yes I am very optimistic about the future. Please wonderful citizens of this great nation, do not loose hope! NEVER LOOSE HOPE!! AND MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA!
the sad part is this country has gotten so divided. wasnt like this in the 90's and before. today there is so much hate for someone who is totally different than you politically. its became an ideology.
I've taken classes with immigrants, taught classes to immigrants, and interacted with them in various ways and their hope, enthusiasm, and gratitude for this country is amazing -- far more than most people who were born here.
"Live like you just immigrated here", "What would an immigrant do" has been my motto for the last 10 years when I was politely scrutinized by my employer for taking a second job. I'm happier than everyone around me.
Cubans we let in with special laws are trumper Republican voters so no thanks. We never should have allowed them special privileges just to destroy America!
yes sacrifice your health, time and sanity for a measly paycheck, and then spend that money later trying to regain them. That's the American way. Nobody on their deathbed says they wished they spent more time working.
We did have a president that was not lole all the others but everyone hayed him called him racist. People forget he was democrat for a long time. The biggest issie is the two party system and how media from both sides manipulate the people.
Lawyers are fine for politicians. Their job is to know legislature. The problem is electing awful people. If you choose your doctor, do you want someone who didn’t go to medical school? If you need a mechanic, do you refuse someone with experience? You want good government? Elect Good People.
What about them? I assume ur tryin to pull a whata bout argument, but Hillary conceded in 2016 within hours and in 2000 the vote was so close it was sent to a recount, but at NO point in either of those elections did the loser refuse to concede.
Nobody or at least a tiny minority said that this election shouldn't count. But the 18th century electoral collage + winner takes it all system, which leads to the candidate who lost the popular vote wins anyway is rightfully critizised.
@@ignatzmeyer1978 Except without that system the citizens living in the rural parts of America, would be completely ignored. The electoral college ensures that the citizens of Iowa (3.15 million 6 electoral votes) and Nebraska (1.9 million 6 electoral votes) have a voice in the national election as compared to somewhere like NY City ALONE (population 8.8 million). The system isn't PERFECT but it's better than based PURELY on the popular vote because if we went PURELY on popular vote, the cities would take every election. And it's not even a "democrat vs republican" at that point. It's two COMPLETELY different ways of life. To exclude rural county votes with different issues and concerns would be ignoring a small, yet important part of the population.
@@xaheroforhireusx Bullshit, first there is already the Senate, where the smaller states are overrepresented (2 Senators regardless of population size). That alone makes the rural vote in America more powerful than in any other western country. Second, the EC doesn't even provide the rural states with more power, the most powerful are the Swing States (most campaigning efforts are done there), where the rural-urban relation is about equal.
Funny- I thought "Fuck tha Police" was EXACTLY what the BLM rioters were yelling when they burned down half the country in 2020. Guess those were all Republicans.
Sadly America is now an unstable democracy. Just think about this, the most recent federal election, did not have a peaceful transition of power. And to top it off, there is no longer trust in the election process. This is despite the Republican DOJ saying it was a safe and secure election! And now half the country say civil war is on the cards. What has happened to America?
I realized that this country is great after traveling and spending years in India, Pakistan, Egypt, and South America. I preach that to my friends and family how being born in the USA is like hitting the lottery.
But you could've just as easily traveled to Scandinavia, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, UAE, etc. and realized what an undeveloped shit show this country is. Obviously when you go to third-world countries you're going to think it's the bee's knees but we were never supposed to be a third-world country. Go to our first-world counterparts and see how healthy, safe, educated, and happy many of them are. Being born in a country that doesn't even offer universal healthcare is not winning the lottery. You must have pretty low standards.
Seriously, how many cities in our great country DON'T look like a scene out of a dystopian movie? How many cities aren't rampant with violence, homelessness, vandalism, garbage, and drug addicts? I've been to Egypt too. Yeah, it is a dump. So are most cities here and not only are they trashy they're dangerous. I'll visit Cairo 100x before I step foot in Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, etc. because at least in Cairo I'll simply get scammed instead of murdered.
You're correct sir the ability to wake up the next morning and not care with some pundits say on TV and go in go on your day to day life your daily chores and to live life to your fullest is what it means to be American without having to abide by anyone's opinion
Senait Abraha : You have something in common with my mother. After living here in the US for 30 yrs since 1970 when she first came over with my dad who's a natural born US citizen she too finally became a naturalized US citizen in 2000. I respect and love this country also.
Has anyone else noticed Bill's final New Rule has been gradually getting longer? They used to be 4-5 mins and now they are approaching 10 minutes. No complaints here as I love this segment.
The segments are getting longer because Bill's audience has 'applause diarrhea.' Nearly everything Bill says is punctuated/interrupted by applause. I wish that his audience would simply pipe down and *Listen.* Applaud at the *end* of his New Rule, not throughout it.
Ron DeSantis showed the world what hypocritical NIMBYs the Leftists are. Democrats only want immigrants in other people's neighborhoods. Martha's Vineyard elitists chucked those migrants out in less than 48 hours, despite over 100,000 empty beds on the island and the greatest concentration of wealthy families in the US.
Since the wealthy decided to invest their wealth in raising fascism by way of Trump destroying common sense.. The new common sense is that one side lies permanently and the other are the ones tring to fix it. And the other common sense is not to believe but what the liars say, like addicts to lies. Even by voting against their own interests.
didnt realize there were so many over 65 year old men who are childless , unmarried , atheists, who thinks unlimited abortions up to birth is the best thing and have Trump running wild in there brain 24/7 is the Majority and i doubt Bill is going to Preach he dont believe in God . one thing for sure is Bill isnt in any majority and he wouldnt even give someone like you the time of day Bill is a recluse as well , people in general are a problem Bill tends to stay away from .
I'm an immigrant and I proud of that. I came legally and as soon as the immigration laws permitted, I became a citizen (best decision ever). I built a family here and my oldest child is now in college and I do not have any interest to leave. I will never forget where I came from and I visit my native country as frequent that is possible, but I had put roots here and I love it. As a any citizen should, I respect the laws, work, pay my taxes, and vote!
At a Latino festival last weekend, they had a parade of flags--carried by elementary school children--celebrating all the countries of north and South America. As the kids went across the stage, waving the flags, people cheered--at various levels of course, some quiet, some loud. The kid with the Mexican flag came out, and the cheering erupted wildly with whistles and shouts, which was moving. Then came the white kid holding the US flag--and the cheering went up a notch. It was incredible. The sense of gratitude and well being was huge, and I could imagine the same scene unfolding in some universities and cities where Americans would burn the US flag instead. The cheering was sincere, non-ironic, non snarky, and not hip. Maybe this is the unexpected gift of immigration--the rejuvenation of everything we once believed in.
@@greglarson6293 same. I'm very thankful for this country for providing me with a bottomless pit of opportunities. Got my citizenship last year through military service.
I think he made a good point and I think it’s mostly true but we should always remain highly skeptical of our institutions such as the fbi to assure they are above board because they have done some questionable acts.
@@glidercoach Uh, yeah? Do you remember that thing where Biden won, not overwhelmingly but solidly, and then Trump didn't accept and tried ridiculous legal bullshit to get it overturned and got a bunch of bubbas riled up and they ran into the Capitol on the basis of insane bullshit to try and stop the election being certified and then didn't attend his successful opponent's inauguration for the first time as far as I know in US history and he *still* fucking won't shut up about it? Yeah, counting that one as a coup. A moronic coup attempt is still a coup attempt.
2:50 "Hunters...why do you say you love wildlife and then shoot it?" This is a common misconception from many people who do not hunt. Game management comes from hunters. Hunting tags, licenses and monitoring all come from hunters not taxes. Remember that most of the wildlife you see, in the wild, would not even be there without hunters. (Deer, Antelope, Bear, Elk. etc.) There are some people who may be poaching and not being respectful, but they are few and hunters typically report them. Realize that unless your vegan, you’re a hunter to. 😀
I knew we were in trouble when Trump disparaging John McCain's service didn't automatically end his campaign. That was the moment my country became something I could barely recognize.
McCain was hated by many Vets and he almost went to prison for stealing money in the early 90's. I'm not saying that I love Trump but McCain being treated as a Saint by libs with TDS is really odd.
It's astounding to me how many people surrender their personal identity, their perspective on their lives and relinquish all that to the likes of Trump. Are they just too lazy to sift through the facts and history and news and determine what to believe on their own.
I truly believe the only way out of this dumpster fire of decisiveness is comedy and the ability to laugh at ourselves. Thank you Bill, I don’t always agree with you but who gives a sh*t.. you’re reasonable, funny, and fair. Respect
Fair? He labels all Republicans as election denying militants who suckles at DJT's teet and want to overthrow the government, and the worst he has to say about the Dems is to stop complaining about America belonging to indigenous people. That was about as "fair" as trading your brand new Jaguar for a ripped Pokemon card.
There’s nothing fair, or honest about this hypocritical, d-bag. And, the ONLY way out of this is by voting conservative. Assuming elections even matter anymore. Had Maher brought up all the catastrophic policies they’ve implemented, and all the corruption of our gov’t institutions, he never would’ve had time to whine about the Republicans (half of which were lies). Maher’s been on the left for his entire adult life…I don’t mind his opinions (to each his own)…it’s his dishonesty, and his lies.
I have family in El Salvador, Mexico & Cuba & have stayed for some time in these countries. I feel elated, blessed & a sense of relief every time I get to come back home, knowing I’m an American citizen, standing on American soil, soil that my dad left everyone he loved in Cuba to stand on. He watched other refugees drown & almost drowned himself. Soil that many emigrés will never touch because they died on their journeys. We’ve become overindulged, decadent & privileged little śhítś we don’t realize it. Of course it’s not the best country & it has a lot of faults but boy are we lucky.
That's the thing that really bugs me about the political nihilism. Not that the problems that bug people aren't real - they are. but going from a problem existing to hating half the country just lacks perspective. We got it good here. We should be fighting to preserve it. We should cherish it.
"Immigrants!" Precisely! I am a first generation American. My Mother, who recently passed away 😢 moved to this country with my Father just over 50 years ago. They left behind a country overtaken by political corruption and a murderous dictatorship in addition to worsening poverty. My Mother proclaimed many times with a look of boundless pride in her eyes that "America 🇺🇸 is the GREATEST country in the world!!" She and my Father worked hard (grateful for the opportunities that allowed them to do so) and NEVER complained about this extraordinary country.
My grandfather came from Italy at a time when Italian immigrants were looked down on. He didn't teach my mom or my uncles to speak Italian because his belief was, "we're in America. We will speak English".
well your mother was wrong. She only knew of a dictatorship country and America. She didn't know about the EU or the Scandinavian countries that kick America's ass in everything except school shootings and excessive military speeding
Exactly! My grandfather's family came thru Ellis Island from the former Yugoslavia. Back when there was a legal process for coming into the country. My best friend's wife came from Hong Kong on a student visa and spent ten years going through the process of becoming a citizen. The process needs to be streamlined and this wild west mentality at the southern border has to stop! My grandfather told me 20 years ago that if you don't have a border, you don't have a country... Way before all these politicians kept saying it. Congress refuses to do anything about it, as one can only assume that they like the way things are.
Conservatives (even the trump supporters) like immigration. Legal immigration. I'm all for decreasing the quagmire of citizenship. As with every political party theres the dumb ones that take the extreme side. I'm all for immigrants who want to work to continue Americas prosperity as citizens. They just need to fill out the dotted line and jump through some hoops.
@@jacobsalmi5582 I'm not a Trump supporter or a conservative but I belive its time to stop all immigration, more people= more pollution and destroyed land to make more houses. Why? Why do we need more people when the over populated cities are making our oceans toxic enough already?
This is what I loved about America: civility, respect for the other, reasonableness, generosity, good work-ethic, practice of the golden rule. Bill, I love you. I hope you will try to unite us. We need unity more than ever.
Yes, but the problem is that they only use it because it works. Ie the voters are so naively trusting on average that it doesn't matter that they are clearly insincere about it going by their actions.
As a brazilian, I think americans should travel more often to other parts of the world in order to understand how much of a shitshow most other countries are when compared to the US. As an outsider, it is pretty clear to me that free market capitalism and democracy are the most important values you uphold, and what enabled wealth and prosperity to spread the way it has in your country. Be proud of it and continue to spread your freedom ideals. The world needs it.
Here's one thing you might not realize. The USA is becoming more like those other countries every day. For example, we used to think the USA was better than South America because our Presidents didn't use the Federal police (FBI) to attack the political opposition. That's no longer true.
Maybe you should probably reread some history. You're a Brazilian. You know why those countries are a shitshow compared to the US? Because the US probably exploited them. Free market capitalism? The US economy is based of off protectionism. That's how they have an economy like this. The automotive industry is a great example. It would have been wiped out if it weren't for protectionism. As for capitalism, most Americans don't have any savings. Basically if something breaks, they're finished. As for healthcare, those guys have a serious problem .People that you think are wealthy....are worried that healthcare costs will leave them homeless. It's not exactly riches to rags but they probably live better off than 90% of Americans before ending up homeless. You think in the US things are the way they were in the 1960s. They're not. Also, you've heard of coops? Cooperatives? Marxists will talk a lot about them. Well, in rural areas where people are very "conservative", these people live off of coops. These coops aren't new though. Democracy sounds nice...until you realise that the way the US system is set up is not that democratic. The President of the US isn't elected by direct vote. If that's not enough you need to do a little more research and find out that in order to get elected, you need A LOT of money. Basically, the US is an oligarchy....like Russia.
As a Canadian living in the US I tell you the US is a great country despite all its flaws. I love this country and I am not even a citizen here. My American brothers and sisters cherish your country and strive to fix it to make it even more greater than what it is right now. I could go for hours on why I love this country
I’m a Canadian living in Canada who always wondered - with genuine curiosity - why so many talented Canadians went to the America and never came back. I would like you to take some time to elaborate. It’d be appreciated.
America is the last hope if there was ever one ... As an immigrant I can tell you America is still the greatest country on the earth.. it has its flaws ..let's identify and fix the problems together for the betterment of every American independent of their political ideology.
Now i feel like part of an unruly class and Bill is the teacher stopping one half of the classroom from throwing stuff at the other side and vice versa. 👏
I could just Bill doing that lol. "Children, children! Now quiet. There will be no more of this insurrection tomfoolery, Donny. I won't stand for it. You're getting a referral. As for you, Woke Betty, if I wanted to hear someone preach, I'd go to church. Now sit down all of you, and be quiet, or you will get no pizza party next week."
Under Trump: No new Wars, 1.5% Inflation, $2.20 gas, Secure Border. Biden: 10% Inflation, Endless tax dollars to Ukraine War, $5 gas, Open Border, 87000 new IRS agents to go after the Gig Economy. All this from Biden, a 5 decade Kleptocrat who enriched his family through his son Hunter and brother Jim in China and Ukraine. Wake Up!
Every nation on earth took the land in occupies from the previous occupants. Why is only the USA expected to 'give back'. Why not Mexico to the Aztec's, Peru to the Inca's etc. ?
1)OK there was no coup. There was however FBI agents in the crowd and they were let in by capital police. 2)Can we bring up the compilation of the dems protesting the results back in 2017 for ol' Billy boy. 3) so making people show they are citizens in this country is restrictive, then you are anti-laws. Under this theory why not just let all countries vote in our elections? 4) notice that article, 114 police REPORTED injured. lol, where are they? And why did they let them in the capital? Do notice he wont talk about the one person shot. 5) FBI? lol, again, Hillary? Biden's son? We know now they suppressed the stories so they wouldn't influence the elections, unstead of upholding the laws in the country. But have no issue raiding panty drawers in Trumps home. Oh sure, the FBI. lol 6) Trump gave a pay raise to the military first 100 days in office. That hasn't happened in 5 preceding presidents. McCain, ratted on his comrades so he could be let free. lol Then ended up being a wolf in sheep's clothing in the republican party. Biden says, your gonna need more than an AR-15 if you want to go against the military. lol Seems he wants to use them against the public. Come on man! 7) When military touts gender equality rather than protecting the USA, they are more than losers. 8) Won WW2? lol the Bush's funded the war. Why don't you talk about that? Truth is, there is no difference between left and right. the left is open about being ungodly and calling good evil and evil good. Republicans just lie to their communities while backing the ideals of the left. That's why nothing ever gets done in office when a rep is in. Even trump. Nothing. Drain the swamp? The swamp got bigger under trump. And you guys fall for this crap. Showing you have no critical thinking skills of your own and no original thought. Being told what to believe under 2 ideologies of the same coin. But this buffoon will never talk about that. He has no original thought of his own. He is told what to say for money. Like just about everyone on TV. You know what i don't like about America? The people in government both sides. And the media like this guy who touts their lies.
He went way too easy on the left in this one. Dems have been screaming about stolen elections and illegitimate president since Gore and its never stopped. We went through 4 years of Russia stole the elections and Trump is Putin's illegitimate puppet for the left to now cry foul over Trump saying it was stolen from him. Its wrong when both sides do it. If your going to go after Trump for it (which is fair) at least admit your side had done this too and way too often.
There's a phrase we have all heard countless times.. it's a little cringe maybe? "If you can't laugh what can you do eh?" I have been using it MORE recently. I can't help but feel that It may NOT have been a rhetorical question.... one that has been answered all too well in the last ten or fifteen years..... You can take the world really personally, lose all perspectives and end up on twitter. I think it's a warning... laugh or turn into a monster. as Lord Meltchett once said - though very sarcastically, as he was the one being laughed at - "Thank god for the gift of laughter". Without it we would be all unhappier, and quite possibly insane
Most of what he said about Republicans is correct for the establishment, but wrong for Republicans - especially Trump supporters. Yes, Trump has said more dumb things than I can count. However, many of his points come from left wing talking points instead of facts. Even though I disagree, I am willing to give him saying Trump attempted a coup because its all in the way you view it. As I have learned from everyday non-political interactions, two people can view the same thing but have completely different ways of describing it. While I think "coup," is an inappropriate word to use, those who take everything Trump says, and the tone he says it, literally, could easily view it as a coup. But you can't start complaining about Republicans denying elections, when every time Democrats lose, they do the same. I don't like it when Democrats do it, and I don't like it when Republicans do it. Most Republicans I know do not subscribe to the idea that 2020 was stolen. They just have questions because there was a lot of strange things going on compared to previous elections. I am also getting sick of Republicans saying, "we are not a democracy," as well as Democrats mocking them for it. We aren't a democracy, but a republic using democratic methods to form our government. A true democracy is mob rule. If we were a true democracy does anyone thing slavery would have ended (just look at other countries)? Prohibition would have ever been a thing? Civil rights would have ever been passed? Not likely. Or at least not as early as they were. As far as separation of church and state goes, it doesn't exist in the constitution. That is something from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote in response to a person who wrote him about their town making the Quaker religion (if I remember correctly) the towns official religion. Jefferson was pointing out that the federal government can't establish a state religion because it is much more difficult to move to other countries. He said a city doing it does not violate the constitution because you can easily move to the next town over. Even a state can because of the free movement between states. I don't remember if Jefferson addressed this, but for me, it would only be an issue if the local or state government, after establishing a religion, threatened through physical, mental, or financial force anyone who chose not to be a member of said religion or support its practices. Then I think it would be a federal issue. And the Democrats aren't wrong about this being stolen land. There was a wider variety of animal life in the Amrican continents prior to humans coming here. How many people know there was a North American lion that had similar characteristics to the African lion? They lived in the west and died out between 5000 and 10000 years ago. What event happened around the same time? Humans. So the land was stolen - from nature by humans. And everyone knows the land bridge story, but how many know about the clovis people and some clovis like artifacts being found in the eastern America's? Until we realize we know almost nothing about history, we can't get past all this.
"If they don't like how America is why do they fight for it so much? How can they say they love America?" That is exactly why people fight for their own country even when they don't like how it currently is. Because they love it and they want to make it a better place. Whatever the definition of "better place" may be. Quite easy to understand.
(@6:47) It's satisfying for me to learn that 72 percent of black people under the age of 30 feel optimistic about their future in America. I'm black & over the age of 60, and "Optimism" might as well be my nickname! 👍🏾🇺🇸😎
I love this country, the oceans, the rivers, the woods, the seasons, and yes, even most of the people! And I like your straightforward talk. Hopefully, it will open some eyes !
It is impossible to support any political party today. My entire adult life has been choosing between two terrible options when voting. How are any of these politicians on either side the best we have to lead our country? They push agendas and don’t address the needs of our people. I love this country but these elected leaders are tearing it apart.
If only politicians could be this balanced and level headed. The whole political spectrum of right vs. left or liberal vs. conservative, etc. has become so incredibly cancerous on both sides where it is literally one team trying to fight against and beat the other team, no matter the cost. Now of course, I don’t always agree with everything Bill says, but when he gets it right, he nails it! 👍🏻
Which is why we need to support alternate party candidates. We only have one more choice than authoritarian regimes. How is that being the freest country in the world? Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. That's what we have been doing here for decades. Put one party in power then when we don't like the result try the other one, back and forth, and nothing gets done. It's time to say screw both the Demashits and Republicunts. Let's get some fresh voices and ideas.
The primary political division is not Republican - Democrats, it is globalist - populist. Once you understand that, Bill Maher does not, you understand what is actually going on.
I love America. I just feel indifferent. I think everything has become so opinionated, but with a lack of substance. It's so easy to bitch and moan about what we don't like. Its like complaining about an issue, yet wait for others to take charge. I believe we have a huge problem with our expectations, and a lack of perception. Edit. The irony is me full well realizing this is just, like my opinion man...
I love the storytelling from this country despite the fucked up shit the ruling class did. In the end, it was the commoners and working class who bailed them out. They shouldn’t forget that
@@xhagast This is the crux of the problem. The right believes that the US has gone too far: abortion, gay rights, lack of morals and Christian principles. In some ways I agree with them. Trans rights? I don't care if someone wants to think they're a woman or man, but I do care if that man who thinks "they" are a woman and wants to use the same toilet as my daughter. Here the physical science does matter. And we hear stories about elementary school children being asked which pronoun they want to called. Even my 14 y.o. daughter told us she's thinking she might be bisexual. We never asked her and were too afraid why she was even thinking about it. The left believes that not only should gays have equal rights, but women should be allowed to control their bodies according to science and not religion, and that statistically Blacks are still more oppressed than any other race in the US. The US was the leader in starting socialism during FDR (pension for old people, public works programs so everyone had a job, farm subsidies). This was added to by LBJ to include national health insurance for the poor and elderly, unemployment insurance, and enforcing minorities' rights like right to vote, buy a house, get a job. I can't understand as the richest country in the world, the US is the only developed country that doesn't have national health insurance for everyone. (Even China with 1.6 billion people has national health insurance). The US, as Bill many times points out, has gotten better for minorities if you think back to where we were and where we are now. But we can always do better on that one and should never stop trying. But it sad that years ago SCOTUS ruled that you couldn't use religion to discriminate against Blacks, but they have ruled that you can use it to discriminate against gays.
He doesn’t. For four years Democrats accused Trump of conspiring with Putin to steal an election, and impeached him over BS FBI intel created by Hillary and 2 Russian&English spies. And Bill was right there in it like a brain dead sucker interviewing Adam Schiff and Jennifer Rubin. Lolz
I was literally searching for this comment. True democracy is mob rule, which means NYC and LA would basically decide every election. Which is also the reason for the Electoral College. Yes, "flyover states" also deserve equal say.
No matter how much he hates Pres. Trump he needs to understand how necessary it was and is to call out the B.S. we all see and know exists within our Govt and media..no one else has ever had the balls to do so on such a large stage.
Aliso: we've never been a democracy, and even the small concessions we made to be more of a democracy have screwed us up. We need a great reset alright; to the time when we weren't bowing to the whims of every jackass who doesn't believe in personal accountability.
We are a democratic republic, so we elect officials through a democratic method. So we still have democracy in this country. The term representative republic is redundant, also.
@@evansaleeby5186 false. We are a constitutional republic. If you want to be technical, we're a federal presidential constitutional republic. Look it up.

First generation immigrant, and now a proud American, here... Counting my blessings every day! It's enough to turn on the world news any given day, to remind me how lucky I am to live in the United States!
I’m first generation Ukrainian/Russian, born & raised in northern California, 1955. Always been grateful for the extreme good fortune of my time & circumstances. My parents were loving & compassionate, mostly Republican, who spoke Russian in a particularly lyrical accent. I appreciate the richness of their experiences, their love of country, and the motivating influence it had on my service as a global #Cannabis activist.
Awesome segment and 100% spot-on. I live in Canada, and while we don't quite have the crisis you have, we also suffer from people on the left and right constantly complaining about what a terrible job our PM is doing and how Canada is going down the drain. No one seems to realize how good they have it. Yes, things can always improve, but ffs, be grateful, whether American, Canadian, etc that you still live in a Country that has so many benefits and provides for its citizens.
Fellow Canadian here. And while I definitely wouldn't say we have the Prime Minister I want, I also think that our current state is grossly exaggerated by those who hate him. To hear some of them speak, you would swear Canada was nothing more than a smoking hole in the ground
I do wish we had a government who took as good care of its people as the Canadian government does. We do a lot right here in America but our flimsy social safety net is a national embarrassment
Being the child of two immigrants from the Soviet Union, I couldn't agree more on the point about immigrants. There are certain things about this country that immigrants struggle to understand, and that's the value of the many fully assimilated multi-generational Americans, but I think the real essence of this country is best understood by those who fled persecution to come here. America's got huge issues but man it could be so much worse.
"you dont realy love America if you hate half the people in it" sometime we get carried away with everything including my self and its good to be reminded who we are and why we are here.
Very well said and very true of the majority of us here in America. God bless you and pray for your prosperity!
That's a good story. Yeah I try to be thankful of being born here. A quick google shows a 1/40% chance of being born an american, which is very low.
@@lovetownsend being born at all .is
@@lovetownsend I think you mean 1 in 40, or 1/40 which is 2.5%.
@@ersendal2466 Very true
I never met in the US a single first-generation immigrant who said a single bad word about the country, even if they were US Muslims fed up with the police and the FBI constant supervision. they have frustrations, but they will never say it to a stranger openly.
‘Half the country hates the other half’- so true. In my thirty years here, I ‘ve seen it go from disagree to dislike and disdain now.
This is nothing to what republicans survived from kkk dims

That's what happens when a certain party keep electing the same 50+ year career corrupt politicians. One party has tried something different. The American people are waiting for the other party to try something different...
That's called the internet. Almost nobody would act that way in person. People DO still like one-another regardless of politics when people just SHUT THE FUCK UP.

By this logic, all of Europe is stolen land, too. It just happened so long ago that we can no longer tell the difference between the descendants of thieves and those of the victims.
You're one of the few sane commentators left in our nation, Bill Maher. Thanks!
The people? Which people? The people who are different than where you came from? Can we have a country too?
We are a country of immigrants, that and our ideation of freedom are what makes us exceptional, even if we haven't always lived up to those freedoms I am a proud American

Well said.

haha and your dumb enoguht to belive that his part of the crowd that told you the 4 yrs trump was in ofice that the riots were "summers of love" and you were dumb enought to belive him
Except when it comes to anything related to Trump, including the January 6th riot he keeps insisting was a "coup".
Cheers.

@@Aya-Nancy I mean, it depends on what your wife’s problems are. If she’s stressed about being over worked, then yeah, The problem of trying to find fresh water is obviously more worrisome. If she has cancer on the other hand, well that could be placed as just as worrisome.

Except without that system the citizens living in the rural parts of America, would be completely ignored.

Quit lying.
Has anyone else noticed Bill's final New Rule has been gradually getting longer? They used to be 4-5 mins and now they are approaching 10 minutes. No complaints here as I love this segment.
I noticed it. One even went for 13 recently
The New Rule has gotten longer and the opening monologue has gotten shorter
I think they know these are popular on RUclips
Now that you mention it...yeah. I'm good with it.
The segments are getting longer because Bill's audience has 'applause diarrhea.' Nearly everything Bill says is punctuated/interrupted by applause. I wish that his audience would simply pipe down and *Listen.* Applaud at the *end* of his New Rule, not throughout it.
A truly excellent “New Rules!” Bill outdid himself, which is saying something.
Preach Bill. You speak for a lot of us out here. The majority I hope, but it’s hard to tell anymore.
A glimmer of hope
Sounds terrifying
Immigrants uniquely understand what a truly awesome country this is. 🇺🇸
That makes me feel a little better about this frustrating country.

Trump tried to pull off a coup is the truth? 🤣
@@cryptocaesar8972 That's a fair caveat. I think some of the GOP rhetoric is irresponsible but FBI record far from spotless
2:50 "Hunters...why do you say you love wildlife and then shoot it?"
This is a common misconception from many people who do not hunt. 😀
Racist Republican spreading misinformation and deadly lies.
Down with the white man!!
yeah it's like "Foodies... why do you say you love food and then eat it?"
Elections only count when we win them? That shows more disrespect to the flag than any football player ever could. Thank you for that bon mot, Bill!
Well said sir
I knew we were in trouble when Trump disparaging John McCain's service didn't automatically end his campaign. That was the moment my country became something I could barely recognize.
Exactly. Like the winds just shifted to a direction never seen before.
"I don't like people who get captured"...wait what the f_&k did you just say??
Disgusting to say. Sure. But is that really worse than endless wars? Trump is the only president in my life to not engage in war.
McCain was hated by many Vets and he almost went to prison for stealing money in the early 90's. I'm not saying that I love Trump but McCain being treated as a Saint by libs with TDS is really odd.
And these were a lot of the same people who voted for McCain to be the president previously. That's one reason why we call those people cult members.
It's astounding to me how many people surrender their personal identity, their perspective on their lives and relinquish all that to the likes of Trump. Are they just too lazy to sift through the facts and history and news and determine what to believe on their own.
Amen...give it back or shut up. Thank you for saying that.
So few humor these days as it seems rare with glad honests laughs

No, politics should be regarded seriously and should NOT be framed as such.
A hug from the other side of the Pond, friend! Loss is never easy to fight and I hope you are not alone in doing so
well your mother was wrong.
Republicans are not against immigration as Dems and the media (but I repeat myself) make them out to be. We are against ILLEGAL immigration
This is exactly why I’m an independent. Both sides are very flawed.
NO THE REPUBLICANS ARE DISEASED THE DEMOCRATS HAVE N INFECTION
If you're looking for flawlessness within any political party, then your living on the wrong planet.
Being independent is irrelevant if you support any republican candidate

I think at this point "I love America" is simply a sound bit for most politicians..
Yes, but the problem is that they only use it because it works.
Ie the voters are so naively trusting on average that it doesn't matter that they are clearly insincere about it going by their actions.
What do politicians like about America? Money, and power.
Powerful stuff. It needed to be said.
Touché

NEW RULE is my favorite segment!
Bill always delivers laughter and facts while having fun.
"If you can't laugh what can you do eh?"
I have been using it MORE recently.
Sorry but opinions are not facts. All of which can be countered easily with actual facts.
Until we realize we know almost nothing about history, we can't get past all this.
half are lies

We are a democratic republic, so we elect officials through a democratic method. So we still have democracy in this country. The term representative republic is redundant, also.
@@evansaleeby5186 false.
We are a constitutional republic. If you want to be technical, we're a federal presidential constitutional republic.
Look it up.
that's like saying that's nor a pan, it's a skillet, or, that's not a crock pot, it's a slow cooker.
How do your representatives get their positions??
@@ChazWalkerWonders constitution republic, democratic republic, representative democracy are all pretty much the same thing. If you want to be pedantic then fine, Constitutional republic. We have representatives who are democratically elected. That’s the main thing.
I’m an ex republican and an ex democrat.
Don’t play into the elites red vs blue game… don’t let them divide us!!!!! 💪🏼
This is nonsensical. The Republicans have lost their mind. Democrats don't even come close.
Requiring Photo ID to vote is a basic requirement across most countries.
Fantastically put.
Hundreds of languages and this man spoke in facts. Anyone else want to see a presidential debate moderated by Bill?
No, we always get biased moderators. No more Godless urban leftists should ever moderate anything again.
No, check his sourcing, the articles he quoted. Not reliable, to much editing.

Wonderful 360 battering. Always respected Maher for this reason, he never picked sides.
Bill at his finest. Keep the flame Bill. The US needs your voice.
That’s the thing. After a couple generations, it doesn’t matter where you come from, complacency is bound to happen.
First generation immigrant, and now a proud American, here... Counting my blessings every day! It's enough to turn on the world news any given day, to remind me how lucky I am to live in the United States!
I love America because its my home
Simple as that.
As a Independent/Libertarian I approve of this message. LOL.
@@wynonasbigbrowndragon6121 careful about saying bad things about our glorious PM, you may get your bank account closed
@@wynonasbigbrowndragon6121 you also have fantastic woodshop teachers who are definitely not outrageous perverts
People are rightfully annoyed with Trudeau and his Liberal government. They are terrible and make Canadians hate each other.
Thanks for your comments.

How did that play in Eastern OK :)
wish i could hit the like button ten million times. spot on
"you dont realy love America if you hate half the people in it" sometime we get carried away with everything including my self and its good to be reminded who we are and why we are here.
