When I was growing up in the 80s people were [bitterly] politically divided but everyone understood that both parties, while they had ideological differences, legitimately had the best interests of the nation (and all its citizens) at heart.
Over on the right, they are angry that the media lies and gets people worked up into believing things that seem to always get proven lies. I have counted 22 instances of this easily. It was all proven lies but the left believed it and voted on it. It was proven lies. It many instances the government ADMITTED the right was right all along.

I like to watch Bill. He brings up a lot of great points, but he seems to generalize whole groups of people a lot more these days. He keeps talking about how 'all the young people, and everyone who goes to college, are rooting for terrorists to destroy Israel and promote open shoplifting' when that's not the case at all. Most people of this younger generation want many of the same things. There are some loud voices out there who try to make a name for themselves by spouting controversial garbage so they can get more "clicks" on social media platforms, but the overwhelming majority of people (I think) just want to see some more humanity shown toward one another and less of this "Us versus Them" mentality. It is possible to vehemently denounce evil terrorist groups like hamas, but still recognize that there are innocent children and babies, etc. in Gaza having 2000-pound bombs dropped on them with no end in sight. We should be allowed to be bothered by that without being antisemitic or "pro-terrorist". We should also be able to support Israel's right to defend itself and be allies to the Jewish people and recognize the pain they felt after experiencing a horrible terrorist attack that included the kidnappings of 240 of their citizens, but also critical of Netanyahu and his far-right government, just as we are of the far-right factions in our own government. We can hold two thoughts in our heads at the same time and not be bad people. I think Bill forgets that sometimes and promotes the idea that everyone is on the extreme-side of any issue. . Also, I personally don't wear a mask anymore and sometimes still see people wearing masks around town, but guess what, they're not hurting anyone. If that's your big concern with the world, I don't know what to tell you.

The thing with the mask....I carry one just in case I have something and dont want to pass it on. Have we forgotten we have a personal responsibility to avoid getting others sick, if possible? You ever see the video of a sneeze or cough? Masks can catch a great deal of that....not 100% of an airborne virus, to be sure...but it helps, and is not difficult

This was extraordinarily well written. I've disagreed with Bill on so much but he is right: he probably has the most integrity of any news pundit left on TV. His career and, frankly, his devoted hard work and endurance has really built him an remarkable legacy. He has really earned it and deserves the decades of growing loyal fans. He's risen to be an icon in a medium where there are so few left.

I drive a school bus and I started wearing a mask again. I got very sick with some kind of "cold" that lasted over 6 weeks. My 86yr old Mom who is not well comes to visit me often.

That’s very sad to hear but I think the point being made here is people who are driving alone wearing masks. You clearly are not driving alone and have contact with many different people entering your bus. I’d say that wearing a mask in those circumstances is a smart choice.

Bill Maher is a great comedian, and I have been watching him for decades. Great comedians make witty observations about society and the world, and points out the ridiculousness of it all from their perspective. They hold up a mirror to us and show us our absurdity. I love it. Behind the punch line, however, there is often a gross mischaracterization of serious issues, and Bill does his share of it. He often mocks his own straw men . We groan and shake our head, but we laugh anyway, knowing there is much more to the story. In any case, making us laugh heartily and reflect is high art, and Bill Maher is a master of it.
In 10 years or so, teens will be able to drink at 18 and that will be when they choose what sex and gender they want to be for the rest of their lives (though they can change back if they can afford it).

Years ago, I worked in a clinic where we had a lot of transgender patients for their facial feminization surgeries, one patient told me: do you know who minority these days is, not queer, not color people but intelligent people. I like to watch Bill. He brings up a lot of great points, but he seems to generalize whole groups of people a lot more these days. He keeps talking about how 'all the young people, and everyone who goes to college, are rooting for terrorists to destroy Israel and promote open shoplifting' when that's not the case at all. Most people of this younger generation want many of the same things. There are some loud voices out there who try to make a name for themselves by spouting controversial garbage so they can get more "clicks" on social media platforms, but the overwhelming majority of people (I think) just want to see some more humanity shown toward one another and less of this "Us versus Them" mentality. It is possible to vehemently denounce evil terrorist groups like hamas, but still recognize that there are innocent children and babies, etc. in Gaza having 2000-pound bombs dropped on them with no end in sight. We should be allowed to be bothered by that without being antisemitic or "pro-terrorist". We should also be able to support Israel's right to defend itself and be allies to the Jewish people and recognize the pain they felt after experiencing a horrible terrorist attack that included the kidnappings of 240 of their citizens, but also critical of Netanyahu and his far-right government, just as we are of the far-right factions in our own government. We can hold two thoughts in our heads at the same time and not be bad people. I think Bill forgets that sometimes and promotes the idea that everyone is on the extreme-side of any issue.

I drive a school bus and I started wearing a mask again. I got very sick with some kind of "cold" that lasted over 6 weeks. My 86yr old Mom who is not well comes to visit me often.

All my school years, it was always said, "With freedom comes responsibility." Idiots jump on that and say, then it isn't freedom if you make limits. I say, it isn't freedom if no limits bring chaos. All freedoms have limits because they run into other people's freedoms and rights. The Constitution grants me freedom of assembly, but not in your living room! This should be so simple. To live together, everyone gives up a little of their freedoms so we can enjoy a peaceful, orderly society.

Spot on - at their core, most people just want to live a simple life where they have a job, can take care of their old parents/children, and have a little bit extra for a nice vacation or something luxurious about once a year.

Bill Maher is a great comedian, and I have been watching him for decades. Great comedians make witty observations about society and the world, and points out the ridiculousness of it all from their perspective. They hold up a mirror to us and show us our absurdity. I love it. Behind the punch line, however, there is often a gross mischaracterization of serious issues, and Bill does his share of it. He often mocks his own straw men . We groan and shake our head, but we laugh anyway, knowing there is much more to the story. In any case, making us laugh heartily and reflect is high art, and Bill Maher is a master of it.
He is an idiot. And a grifter.

The drinking age was 18 from the late 60s to the mid 70s when the voting age was lowered to 18. It got moved to 21 because of the 1984 national minimum drinking age act.

Being from a 3rd world country I would like to offer you as America: have the chance to talk and debate. Don't cut ties with friends and families because a political standpoint. That thorn us apart and we were the venue where those who play that game, divide and control us.
What you call a political standpoint is actually a reflection of an individuals moral values and the two cannot be separated.
Unfortunately, some people are too far gone. I've got a close colleague that is becoming the left-wing version of a conspiracy theorist and it's terrifying. There's often no discussion to be had because theyre too far gone.
