I am 65 and 50 years ago, my mother was working as a researcher on studies for the Forestry Service. The government was doing research on how pollution was affecting wildlife. It was reported that there are a lot of endocrine disruptors in our environment which can harm endocrine systems of life on this planet. Endocrine disruptors like lead, mercury, plastics ( source of much pcbs) and the contamination of water with various drugs include birth control hormones. At the time my mom ( keep in mind this was 50 yrs ago), told me that water pollution had a link to newborns becoming homosexual. I at the time was dealing with a boy I had a crush on coming out of the closet and telling me he was gay. I think my mom was trying to comfort me, in a weird way. So, I said are you saying Patrick had no choice? Should I let him know that? Which she said oh no, forget I said anything! It is part of a government study and I really shouldn't have said anything. I think this was about the time homosexual behavior in Ibis in Florida were link to mercury poisoning. There is now a deformity in many fish species that are not normally Hermaphrodite, called intersex disorder caused by water pollution. Fish like the smallmouth bass, are growing eggs in their testes. This makes most sterile, and is causing a sharp decline in the smallmouth bass population. So, men and women not having a sex drive, less testosterone and progesterone? Maybe we are all becoming gender-less. Asexuality on the rise? One person I know that claims to be asexual, says no one turns her on. She has no desire for sex. She had relationships in the past, and said that she realized she rather just be alone.

As far as asexuality goes, it's probably worth mentioning that for a long time asexuals were being mislabeled as bisexuals in research because if the Kinsey scale wasn't used, both bisexuals and asexuals could fall under the description of "little/no preference" or "equal attraction to both sexes" (even if that attraction was basically 0) so now it's likely being reported more accurately. Also better sex ed helps, if people know that most people feel attraction and pleasure, and aren't thinking about it in terms of "purity" or "sin" orwhatever else, then they might be more prompted to seek an explanation when they don't feel those things.

His wife and children left and rather than playing poppa he’s stayed behind in a warzone to fight or die. A war leader is someone involved in war are you saying war and violence are associated manliness? Women are fleeing because they don’t want to fight. Women are not physically built to compete with men. Wtf is manliness? Being a man is being willing to stare death in the face, suppress your emotions, grab your pair, and face it head on with no fear. Toxicity isn’t a thing, it’s completely subjective and it’s that rhetoric of wanting to pass on your duty, your job to women that is what’s turning us into a society of useless men.

He can lead the country and be strong and have his family show solidarity by not leaving. Some women are fleeing. Some are remaining to fight. The Ukrainian people have a strong sense of pride and will fight their occupiers no matter their gender. Some have no choice but to leave with their children but they don’t feel good about it. Most women who are fleeing are not doing so bc they don’t want to flight but bc the have an obligation to keep their children safe. Courage and determination is present in every Ukrainian. Okay, Esther Perel - world famous clinical psychologist and relationship therapist - with a husband and two sons of her own - talks about this frequently - and on you tube - (and also one of founding feminists in the 60's always said this too) - that we've had the women's revolution where we've come a long my way but there's still work to be done. BUT we (women, men, people, the world) need a MEN'S revolution of sorts to. What's needed isn't to neuter men or make men and women the same or make women dominant, but to understand the differences, make equality of opportunity but not eliminate merit, and have and do what we all need to thrive.
We need "strong" independent women AND men. Why would it be any other way? Steven Covey says the goal in relationships isn't codependency it's interdependence and to have that, both people need to be independent (independent so you can be interdependent).

@@gayeenglund1907 Yeah, that's also true. What a society values shows up in how its kids are raised educated and socialized. People ARE responsible for their own actions and behaviors BUT they can and do internalize the values of the societies they grow up in too. And if those values are wrong and harmful, they are only corrected to the degree and when the individuals who grew up with them are able to gain self awareness and deliberately choose and change otherwise.
An example of this is my growing up in a well meaning but authoritarian, sexist, slightly mysoginist household. After becoming an adult it took me years to realize and correct the compliant, unassertive, people pleasing doormat I was raised to be. - Because society had raised my parents to think women and girls should be so that they raised me that way in the first place and thought they were doing the right thing.
This is seen in homosexuals too. People were raised in the 20th century in a society that didn't understand human sexuality and where homosexuality fit into that. It was seen as a mental disorder, sin, even a crime (and still is in many societies - I think it's still illegal in 10 countries including Russia oddly enough).
Even in America to this day homosexuals can struggle with overcoming self loathing they've grown up internalizing from their families, church, and culture's attitudes and beliefs about homosexuality. Families and communities and certainly some churches STILL exist that cast out any member that comes out as gay. I mean there are STILL closed gays cuz they don't want to bear the price coming out will cost them. And there are people who come out in their old age after living a lie their lives at their own cost and suffering (and often their straight spouse's and kids' suffering too).
I'm not here to wave the pride flag (though there's nothing wrong with that) I'm just using the personal and individual struggles with recognizizing homosexuality as perfectly okay as a very good example of the problems AND INFLUENCE that cultural and societal values can have on children and people / society in general.

There are plenty of women these days who seem to have a constant chip on their shoulders towards men in general. I was admonished for holding a door open for a lady (as I always do) when she quipped "I can open my own door" and then got even more upset when I replied "yes ma'am". As if somehow I was implying that she wasn't able to open a door, being a woman and all. I didn't respond after her outburst, instead just let her continue living a miserable life.
But this is becoming more and more common, as masculinity in general seems to have been lumped in with the toxic side. There are still things in our DNA as men that we do better than women, and vice versa. It was different people with the same question. Seems a young man asked a girl out on 2 different occasions. The girl said no twice, then asked if she should report the guy to the police for sexual assault. I asked if the males had put their hands on them at any point or said anything offensive. Both said no. I then told them that the guys didn't do anything wrong, they just simply expressed an interest in taking them out. Well...the responses I got from lots of people made it seem as if I had just told the gals to lay back and enjoy it. Total, absolute insanity. @Deborah King, yup and this is exactly why men and women aren't having as much sex. Men are afraid (not of women) but of being accused of rape, sexual harassment, or some other type of abuse simply for expressing their attraction or mere interest.
And yes, I understand that cat-calling and other such behavior can be problematic (although some women actually enjoy cat-calling if done a certain way) but merely asking a woman out or even just voicing how attractive we think she is, in my opinion, is not wrong in any way. All she has to do is say she's not interested and that's it, both parties move on.
It's like people today have forgotten that we are, at the most basic level, biological beings. And biological beings have instincts, including the instinct to engage in sex. But it turns out that we are now trying to criminalize this instinct. It's really a sad thing.

@Dona Mills Yeah, some folks on the left take things too far in the way you mention (and some on the right take things too far the other way as an over reaction to them) For me though (I'm on the left) I think it's also masculine to care about your family by doing more than just working to pay the bills (which is also important). Masculine is being secure enough to rock your child to sleep or gently soothe their scraped knee or spend time and have a tea party with your little daughter. Being confident enough to show their sorrow at the death of friends instead of hiding it for fear they might be mocked for crying at a funeral. Brave enough to say "I love you." and mean it. Secure enough in their sexuality not to have to prove anything to anyone one way or the other. They know who they are and that's all they need. Strength. Confidence. Independence.
I get the feeling Zelensky would do all these things......and yes, he will fight and die for them as well.
      That's a real man.
I think rather than calling it toxic masculinity we should call it limiting masculinity. Men can't ever be sad, Never afraid, Never do anything that could be mocked. Never show weakness of any kind. Never admit not knowing how to do something. Never take advice. They must live in the small box society has created for them. I know a lot of guys like this.....most of them are older men who grew up a certain way. I think that was a disservice to them.
The left has things to learn and so does the right. My friend, lets meet in the middle and make it happen.

The sex drought is due to stress. Everyone has so much stress in their everyday lives, it's at a toxic level so sex drives decrease.
It's become too expensive to live and that effects every aspect of our lives. Stress from your job. Corporations actually expect employees (who really have no stake in whether the company makes money or not), to think of them like a family, work more than 40 hrs with no increase in pay then expect you to give 100% and increase that by 10% every year then hold it against you in your annual review of not met. How is that possible. You're treated like a child. No wonder sex is down. Who has any energy, confidence or self esteem left?
We need to demand and build better, more affordable, happier lives to increase desires for sex.

Lots of people have been stuck with the kids at home, and caring for elderly parents more, weight gain from stress, people have to feel pretty and relaxed before they feel like being intimate with their partner. Others aren't meeting people to have a partner because you can't have love at first sight wearing a damn mask, and socializing has dropped over the last 2 years. It is crazy, and it's making people go crazy lacking affection and human touch, even if they don't realize it.

    Zelenski: not toxic

    • @webx135

I'm sorry Bill, but before the war, Selensky was the type of guy you're complaining about. You can't judge if someone is a brave man or not until it gets really serious. I know an Austrian sea captain, he lives with his mother and has a bit of the attitude of a nobleman, this man supplied Split and other ports at night and new moon from sea during the Yugoslav war while the Serbian cannons were waiting for him and his crew.

Bill doesn't let facts get in the way of making controversial statements. He's gone from being a decent commentator and panel host to being someone addicted to controversy. He completely ignored that men were required to stay and that despite that fact, 15 percent of the Ukraine army are women. That was an inconvenience however to the rhetoric he was slinging. He's just defending himself now because he knows we've labeled him sexist, which he is.

I don't know where this came from. As if Maher is the personification of macho. Zelensky is a regular guy. Putin is the "man's man," the "stud" who poses with his shirt off. The unassuming Zelensky keeps at his post as the Russian army closes in and despite the very real possibility of being assassinated. Studmuffin Putin is afraid to get nearer than shouting distance of his own advisors.

    • @TheFeldhamster
      @TheFeldhamster 2 года назад +28

^^ THIS. Exactly this. Would give you 100 thumbs up if I could.
The toxic masculinity all those hated "feminazis" have been complaining about all along is the kind that gave us frigging PUTIN.
Zelenskyi didn't feel the need to ride shirtless to prove how much of a "man's man" he was. He chose a career in comedy after getting a law degree and didn't take himself too seriously. Watch old clips of him doing Ukraine's "Dancing with the stars" and he wears a costume that's basically PINK. Who of those "real men" Maher talks about would have the balls to do that? And when the war came, Zelenskyi rose to the occasion with impeccable courage, but he's not the kind of braggart "rah rah hero". I mean just listen to how he speaks. He's always kind, and feels for people's losses. He's also resolute BUT THAT'S NO CONTRADICTION.
Why do people always think, that men can't be kind AND resolute if necessary? Zelenskyi is exactly what progressives and feminists would see as a good, modern man. No wonder so many think he's irresistibly sexy. That's because he's exactly the OPPOSITE of the toxic overly "masculine" braggadiocious guy.

Remember that? Cuomo was the “greatest thing ever” when he actually LITERALLY killed a bunch of grandmas in NY state.
It’s pathetic propaganda. Stop falling for it.
Zelensky has needlessly dragged Ukraine into a STUPID WAR, ensuring death & destruction for his people. He is forcing civilian men to take up arms against a professional army, while he barks orders & escalates tension in front of green screens from the comfort & safety of his hiding places.
Zelensky is a complete fraud and truly a POS of a human being.

He can make fun of it all he wants, but when a man can’t stand up for another man without the fear of being called “gay” and being ostracized, it’s pretty toxic. A lot of it isn’t how they act with women, it’s how they act with each other. For example it’s okay not to talk about tits and sports all the time. It should be okay to go a little deeper. Doesn’t have to be a lot-just a little.
