  • Welsh rarebit with a poached egg. Not too runny. Bacon. Scones, butter, cream, jam. Not strawberry. A pot of Lapsang souchong tea. And some sausages.

"The Shape of Water " has already gone into oblivion. While "Phantom Thread" lives on as a work of complexity and beauty. So much for the aesthetic taste of Academy Award judges.

A pure work of art. Call me by Your Name and Phantom Thread were my two favorite films of 2017

Phantom Thread is probably my 2nd favorite movie from 2017. I can't stop thinking about it. It's really a bummer that Vicky Krieps didn't get nominated for best Actress and the screenplay deserved a nod in my opinion as well. Only movie to be better than it from last year is........I'll write about it once your review is out. ;P
Looking forward to the other videos coming out before the Oscars.

G'day! I've been watching your reviews for 2 years now and thought I'd let you know that I appreciate your opinion on this movie. No doubt it will be overlooked by most viewers (and most likely the Oscars, too) which is a shame. Any positive talk about it is great as it truly is brilliant and, in my opinion, the best movie of 2017 - hands down!

I was perplexed by the film right after I watched. This is what the movie is about? I thought.
And yet, my mind keeps coming back to it, like you said.

"Glorious 70mm"? it wasnt shot on 70mm. Unfortunately something i noticed right away watching it in theaters. It was shot in 35mm then blown up to 70mm. The picture is still beautiful though.

I love this review and I am insane for Phantom Thread. I have a question: Of course the dresses/costumes in the film are going to be beautiful, but since Woodcock's popularity and relevance are on a deep decline are the dresses out of date or lacking in quality to reflect this? I've never heard it addressed except for (at the time) seeing a fashion designer friend state that the dresses were "very bad" on social media. I'd love to hear if they ever acknowledged at what level the gowns should be interpreted.

Haneke’s point about the metoo discussion was fair though. I don’t know why you just put it there like he was in the wrong? Anyways, nice review. Looking forward to the other ones!

Me: “You better NOT bring that ‘Mother!’ into this!”
JLaw’s big melodramatic face: “I was effed by Javier Bardem last night and my baby was eaten but I dun caaaaaaare 😫😫😫”
This a perfect movie, with top-notch cinematography, original music score, and performance. “Mother!” is a product of Darren’s ego and its only salavageable part is white gold Michelle Pfeiffer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely a Darren’s fan and have probably watched “Requiem For a Dream” and “Black Swan” for a million times, but put “Mother!” and “Phantom Thread” side by side is just unfair to “Phantom Thread” 😂. Also I really hate the fact that nowadays every time I hear the word “auteur”, I see Michael Bay’s big narcissistic ass constantly blowing sh*t up.

this movie does hit every point besides an interesting narrative, acting is great DDL and mansville are fantastic vickie is okay but falters at times but they may be due to competing with DDL, although mansville does a good job of tht, the camera work and score are top notch. although i think deakins cinematography for blade runner is better and the score might be the best this year. but the movie is a little long something common with PTA even though magnolia is an exception because not a second should be cut in my eyes. overall the films great and #13 on my list. i just really value narrative and this might be my least favorite pta which is still like a 8.5 or 9

i love ur channel but in what way is haneke wrong its kinda pointless to bring politics up and talk down to someone without making a proper argument "cmon guy" is so fucking annoying. there has been men hating movements spawned from hashtags, like even though it was a "joke" #killallmen. this #culture is so idiotic and the fact that u give credence to it is truly sad. i love ur re views though. thumbs up.
