The strong presence of Karen's character and Lorraine Bracco's fantastic performance is a big part of what puts Goodfellas above The Godfather for me, in addition to everything else you highlighted in this video (energetic cinematography, myth deconstruction, etc.). It just feels like the most well-rounded mob movie to me.
You have incredible content. Thank you for doing what you do. I'm just eating it up over here, and now just taking your word and going to watch the movies I haven't seen that you've reviewed. Cheers!
Man, your genuine passion and enthusiasm for these movies permeates through all your reviews. Not only do I always enjoy seeing your perspective on the films you discuss, but your earnest enjoyment reviewing them is contagious. Thank you for the great video man. Keep it up! :)
It’s such a classic movie/story and so well acted, that you can almost forget the brilliant work Marty did as you lose yourself in it, with the perfect soundtrack as well
Magnolia review? Anyways, great analysis of this one. I thought I had it all figured out but you contextualized it really well that i learned a lot of new things. Especially about the ending
OH yessss! I just recently rewatched this movie because sometimes I get the unavoidable urge to rewatch this movie. It was late at night, I had to get up early and I still had to go through a lot of movie: "I'll just stop when a lull comes along. I'll pick it up tomorrow after work." I watched it complete, slept poorly, woke up tired and overjoyed for having witnessed such a colossal masterpiece.
Great channel 👍 I genuinely don't get your take on it though because psychopaths and people who can relate on some level (apparently most) are a complete mystery to me. Goodfellas is just a epic satire for me.
How fine is Ray liotta in Goodfellas. Wonder who he pissed off and what favour he didn't do, to only appear in only one Martin Scorsese film when he reuses many of his favourites
Here’s something interesting I think about as a huge Goodfellas and Sopranos fan. I don’t think Sopranos would exist without Goodfellas. So much of it is playing off Goodfellas.
Your review is excellent but in your companions you forgot to mention that Henry Hill was only an associate of the Vario family, while the fictional character of Michael Corleone is the son of a boss.
I love your videos, but your audio levels are all over the place. The movie clips are especially quiet. I'm having to ride the volume throughout the whole video.
(1) The way I see it _Donnie Brasco_ is a counter to both _Goodfellas_ and _The Godfather_ And, I think, a lot more realistic. The gangster life is often desperate. (2) _Goodfellas_ is based on Henry Hill's autobiography isn't it. He'll be just about the most unreliable narrator there is - did he really never kill anyone, for instance? It's a great film but I don't think you can trust anything you see on screen as an account of anything that happened. Basically it's not _Based on a True Story_ it's more _Based on a Made Up Story By Someone Who Really Did Their Research_ :-)
Guest Informant Donnie Brasco is the most accurate. But I think Goodfellas works better if Henry Hill didn’t kill in the movie, so the character becomes a stand in for the viewers
Maybe it's just me but I wasn't taken in by the life in this. It just seems kind of sad and pathetic. The benefits seem minimal. So yeah Ray Liottas character just comes off as an idiot to me. I do really enjoy the Godfather though.
I always just saw it as a Shakespeare story with mobsters. I never really saw it a justifying their behavior rather simply contextualizing it, which I think are two different things. Goodfellas on the other hand is more about the real world historical mafia
not by me. Between GoodFellas and The Godfather Part One I'll always think the Godfather is better, but that isn't saying much since they're both extraordinary films.
I've just realised how similar to Goodfellas The Wolf Of Wall Street is in its structure.
According to screenwriter Terence Winter, that's no accident.
www.mtv.com/news/2772597/terence-winter-interview-the-wolf-of-wall-street/
I thought the same thing when I saw the Wolf of Wall Street. It's totally Goodfellas about stock brokers.
I realy love GoodFellas but i belive the wolf of wallstreet's ending is more clear and more effictive
Arguably the greatest film ever made. An incredible masterclass of filmmaking. So glad you're back man!
WELCOME BACK! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!
Thanks so much for the Chinatown recommendation. It's one of my favorite movies now
You have incredible content. Thank you for doing what you do. I'm just eating it up over here, and now just taking your word and going to watch the movies I haven't seen that you've reviewed. Cheers!
Just watched this last night, great timing. Love you and your criminally underrated channel
Love this movie too, one of my favorites

Man, your genuine passion and enthusiasm for these movies permeates through all your reviews. Not only do I always enjoy seeing your perspective on the films you discuss, but your earnest enjoyment reviewing them is contagious.

Glad that you keep posting !
Love this man. Welcome back
It’s such a classic movie/story and so well acted, that you can almost forget the brilliant work Marty did as you lose yourself in it, with the perfect soundtrack as well
I dont think you need to convince anyone Goodfellas is a masterpiece :)
Magnolia review? Anyways, great analysis of this one. I thought I had it all figured out but you contextualized it really well that i learned a lot of new things. Especially about the ending
love your videos man! Goodfellas is a classic.
YAY thanks for another video!
Man I love your channel Josh, saludos from mexico
Good to have you back, and what a fucking fantastic video!
Please do a video on taxi driver or raging bull
This. The Wolf of Wall Street will suffice as well
Parsa Eftekhari King of comedy is the most uncomfortable film I've ever seen.
Parsa Eftekhari I have to get up and walk around the house everytime the Jerry Lewis house scene comes.
Second Raging Bull. One of the most tragic but hugely breathtaking films I've ever seen.
They're both on the list.
the moment your favorite RUclipsr covers your favorite movie

Am I too late to say welcome back? Always amazing content!
Well this... was just awesome.
A pure classic. Not much else can be said about this film.
Fantastic!!!
You're a real funny guy Josh
What, like the way I talk? Funny how?
It's ridiculous how much you mirror my own tastes.☺️
Great channel 👍 I genuinely don't get your take on it though because psychopaths and people who can relate on some level (apparently most) are a complete mystery to me. Goodfellas is just a epic satire for me.
YES.
Please more like this!
Great analysis. Can u please do a video on pulp fiction
My favorite movie!
My Favourite movie❤️❤️
How fine is Ray liotta in Goodfellas. Wonder who he pissed off and what favour he didn't do, to only appear in only one Martin Scorsese film when he reuses many of his favourites
That last moment when Henry speaks to the camera in cort... I hate it.
Yes!!!! Best series on youtube
I love you too you are right

Love these videos, but like have you every heard of world Cinema?
Please do a video on Sing Street.
My God! I thought you were gone till the next Oscars
If you do love Wolf of Wall Street, I'd love to see a vid on that
Can you please do a movie from the Silent Era(maybe Chaplin)?
Long time no see
Here’s something interesting I think about as a huge Goodfellas and Sopranos fan. I don’t think Sopranos would exist without Goodfellas. So much of it is playing off Goodfellas.
don't honestly know how many times I have seen it :p
Now you gotta do Pulp Fiction
Dude in the thumbnail looks like Brian Ortega
Epic
Please do a video on The Godfather
Your review is excellent but in your companions you forgot to mention that Henry Hill was only an associate of the Vario family, while the fictional character of Michael Corleone is the son of a boss.
Ha I just re-watched this film yesterday
Could you plz provide a script with an audience who is from non-English speaking country like me? Would be much appreciated if you could do so :-)
Cache? -please.
Do whatever you are my favourite youtuber.
That movie's bananas (in a good way). I wouldn't even know where to begin.
+Movies I Love (and so can you) Would you like me to write it for you? That is, if you really love the film.
Good
Do you also love Spring Breakers?
Dude your content is great but you need better eye-catching thumbnails.
"Now go home and get your shine box"
Every film grammar and techniques in the movie
Goodfellas and Casino, great for a double feature
The best movie ever made
6:12 Is that hate on Scarface?
Josh. Please watch "Waking Life" (Linklater). It's on Netflix. Great movie I think you'll like.
I love your videos, but your audio levels are all over the place. The movie clips are especially quiet. I'm having to ride the volume throughout the whole video.
8:37 wtf was that noise?
(1) The way I see it _Donnie Brasco_ is a counter to both _Goodfellas_ and _The Godfather_ And, I think, a lot more realistic. The gangster life is often desperate.

Better than citizen Kane, casa Blanca, the racist gone with the wind, etc.
Who doesnt love goodfellas
I thoroughly dislike this film, your video helped me see why. Good one!
Maybe it's just me but I wasn't taken in by the life in this. It just seems kind of sad and pathetic. The benefits seem minimal. So yeah Ray Liottas character just comes off as an idiot to me. I do really enjoy the Godfather though.
The reason I don't like the Godfather (yeah, yeah, get over it) is precisely because I can't buy into the justifications it attempts to give.
I always just saw it as a Shakespeare story with mobsters. I never really saw it a justifying their behavior rather simply contextualizing it, which I think are two different things. Goodfellas on the other hand is more about the real world historical mafia
Talk about sleepers or menac to society
f bruce he got it what was coming at him
oh god 8:38 :(
there's debate? i thought it was pretty well agreed that goodfellas was better than the godfather
not by me. Between GoodFellas and The Godfather Part One I'll always think the Godfather is better, but that isn't saying much since they're both extraordinary films.
Literally found your channel today and planned to unsub because of your inactivity. Thankfully I procrastinated on that lol. God bless my laziness
Welcome back
