This thankfully has never happened to my 06 C70. I live in London so mine is driven on the right. My battery died but the manual key worked. Good info in case it doesnt in future. Thanks for sharing.
While I've not heard of this method before, it will work on any vehicle. Although I'm not sure which vehicles outside of volvos lock down tight.... Hopefully it does help someone else out there
@@LoneStarMini Noco (your battery jump starter brand) sells many different accessories including permanent cables to leave them hooked to the car battery and even has a cover on the terminal to protect it for the environment (that was my first though), to make it look professionally installed. I'm on my way to pick my first c70, wish me luck! I'll make a video on whatever I solve with this issue.
Thank you for the video, I have same car. The car comes with a regular key that can unlock manually the key hole is by the driver’s door handle but it’s covered by a piece of plastic. If you look close to it you’ll see a key sign, once you remove that cover you can use the key to unlock even with dead battery
Unfortunately not on mine as that was the first thing I tried… I bought this car used and I believe someone swapped/replaced the handle, therefore the key does not work
Does what you did let the engine start or just to get in the car? I have a brand new battery on my 2007 Volvo and I got in it and it was completely dead and now the black part(faub) is locked in and won't turn all the way off
It only jumps the battery allowing you to get into the car. If your key is stuck in the ignition, first try wiggling or pushing your gear shift into park. Sometimes your ignition key will not turn if the gear shift is not properly seated in “park”. Otherwise you may need a new ignition switch.
@@LoneStarMini No thank God for that scenario, jacking it up and taking under trays off annoys me. Will do the same for getting to starter motors though when the engine does not turn over even though the battery is fully charged.
Hi Steven…. What is going on with your ignition? My daughter’s c70 also had an ignition problem, but I was able to solve it in a later video. Not sure of it’s a similar issue
Excellent and informative. Needed this 🙂
Thank you…. Hope my struggles help someone else…
Thanks you were very helpful my daughter's c70 also went dead !? I'm gonna try this thanks again
hope it works well for you.. it did for us.. twice.
THANKYOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT . THATS EVERY THING I NEEDED TO KNOW. THANKS AGAIN
Glad it was useful to someone else…

My girls will be in your beautiful country soon….
Good work Randy, modern day engineering is "why make something difficult when with a bit of effort you can make it impossible".
Well I certainly found this “dead lock” to be inconvenient. All is good though….
Well done Randy, good information for fellow Volvo owners keep up the good work
Thanks Peter.. simply had to create a video on this one...
Randy, Good that you passed this on! Changing a battery seems a bit of a faff but there is just no space in the modern cars, Cheers Dave
Right on…
Cheers Randy
This will probably work on my Volvo V50 also.
Good to know

Thanks mate I will be buying my daughter a c70 soon I have no doubt the battery will go flat at some stage and she will call on me to fix it.
Your daughter is going to LOVE the car.. mine does! It really is an impressive design and beautiful car...
I'm looking to buy a C70, and thanks to you I'm adding an external connector (like a tow harness? maybe?) to the front oh the grill just in case!
Now I actually like that idea. I may actually look at doing the same.. thanks for the idea..

@@bluetorch13 outstanding… hopefully your c70 is wonderful… my daughter loves hers
Well done apprentice x
It was a bit of a challenge…. Thanks Kim!
oh dear!! What a mission to get the battery out. Good job tho bro
I just laughed because I couldn’t believe we were completely shut/locked out….
Thank you for the video, I have same car.

Told you it's easy when you know how!!
While you've done this before, it certainly cannot be very often..

Use the door key , the metal key
Thought I mentioned that in the video…. Did not work. I believe the handle had been changed at some point in its life
My C70 battery went flat then I had ignition starting problems.
Diagnostics could not read key.
DO you have any ideas how to solve?

How do you reset the key code???
If I understand correctly, the only way I know if via a volvo dealership. We got my daughter a new key and it can only be set from the dealer.
👍🏻
But the metal key ? Use the key do open the door
Thank you. The stupidity of it all. Technology suppose to make it easier
Right on.. this is the craziest things I've seen...
