“She’s gonna be making 11 dollars an hour starting Monday” has to be the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.
whistle blower sadder yet... I have a college degree... worked in management... I’m almost forty years old work 60-70 hours a week and just got a raise to 11 an hour at one of my jobs and that was with a strong review and a year with the company. My choice is to give my time to a company for low wage or risk debt and homelessness.
A few male friends think it’s wrong that I don’t have children... I tell them it’s wrong to inflict near poverty on a child or force tax payers to foot the bill. The world is seriously coming off the rails.

Korey Paul A normal hospital delivery costs in the area of $7000 where I live in DE. A home birth with a midwife about $3500. That factors in prenatal care and one or two nights in the hospital. There are a lot of variables of course, but I don't understand why this women who has pretty much nothing wouldn't qualify for Medicaid or free or reduced ”charitable care” from the hospital. Obviously, the hospital knows it's never getting paid. I think with 6 (or so) kids in the foster system from different fathers, she isn't going to be motivated to turn things around by Dave Ramsey or anyone else. Her father seems in denial of the big problems here. I wouldn't worry about my daughter’s bills. I'd be worried where my grandchildren were!

The caller was being very deceptive at the beginning when answering the questions put to him by Dave. Why didn't he just say she had 6 kids from the start?
The caller's daughter having 6 kids in foster homes (with multiple men as possible fathers) is obviously a sign of MASSIVE dysfunction. Her promiscuity and lack of regard for the consequence of such actions is an act of rebellion. She's rebelling, because she's seriously troubled. Which is usually a symptom that she's undergone some kind of trauma and is 'acting out' as a means of getting attention and/or self-medication. I wouldn't be surprised if she's also had issues with substance and alcohol addiction.

She had 6 kids. She doesn't have 6 kids. They're in foster care so she wouldn't be eligible for any welfare that parents/families are eligible for.
@@kingkoopa157 Not true. TN is a red state and provides free healthcare for pregnant mothers who may need help with assistance. For instance I have a primary insurance through the company I work for and since I had to go on Short Term for High Risk pregnancy my income was only 50% of what I would usually make. So I qualified for a secondary insurance through TN to pay my copays and the 10% leftt over from my primary insurance. So I will not go into debt from having a complicated pregnancy. I have a great career too and am really blessed that my job has great benefits and TN offered the healthcare.
The income cut-off for pregnant women to get Medicaid is very high in most states (far higher than for a non-pregnant woman). She undoubtedly would have qualified for Medicaid during pregnancy with a $11.00/hr job (and she was probably only making minimum wage before this new job.) The dad isn't being honest about her debts, more likely she ran them up with emergency room visits from drug overdoses or something.

Once he said 11 an hour and 60k in debt, I knew immediately that this was going to be an “life advice” video instead of a “numeric solution” video. One thing I notice about Dave is that he does not give numeric advice on how to get out of debt for people that make less than around 20k a year with debt of 55k or higher. This needs to change. Don’t just help the poor but help the poverty also.
But really how can you support yourself and pay off debt at 11 an hour it's not possible really. Many other things need to come together before she can start. Plus if you have that extra money to pay off debt should it go towards the kids idk
The math is impossible. Even if you pay 1/4 of yearly income for the debt it will be 12 years before you pay it off. Even just keeping current would be impossible.
