  • Cinemassacre reviews Flash Gordon in this Rental Review. Flash Gordon is the hero of a space opera adventure comic strip created by and originally drawn by Alex Raymond. First published January 7, 1934. It inspired George Lucas to make Star Wars after he couldn't get the rights to Flash Gordon... but after Star Wars became wildly popular a modern Flash Gordon film was made in 1980. In the film, NASA scientists are claiming the unexpected eclipse and strange "hot hail" are nothing to worry about, Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol) knows better, and takes football star Flash Gordon (Sam Jones) and travel agent Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) with him into space to rectify things. They land on planet Mongo, where the despot Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow) is attacking Earth out of pure boredom. With the help of a race of Hawkmen, Flash and the gang struggle to save their home planet.

    My film school class had the choice of any film to watch at our graduation party.
    We had students bring The Godfather, The Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane.
    Someone else brought Flash Gordon.
    Unanimously we all chose Flash Gordon and a bunch of twenty somethings spent the evening singing all the songs, reciting the lines, and applauding the battle scenes.

    Ever wonder what Jodoworsky's Dune would have been like? Flash Gordon with a much higher budget, sense of perfectionism, incredible names in the cast, and Salvador Dali never speaking a line in the final product, in order to exploit the hell out of his contract.

    • @johnellizz
      @johnellizz 4 года назад +1

      The Mandela Effect should make Jodo's "Dune" real. It should also make a sequel to Flash Gordon set on Mars. That was going to happen but the budget got transferred to the 1984 "Dune". This way the Mandela Effect eliminates the existence of the 1984 Dune, transfers it's budget to the Flash sequel and makes that real, and also gives us a 70's Dune movie.

    • @paulprescott4904
      @paulprescott4904 4 года назад

      Wasn't really opera as such. It was more of a rock mock opera with big orchestra guitar sounds and overdubs of singing is what they were known for. It's one of their trademarks.
      The 80s was a style of change with music aswell. Queen moved into of a pop rock radio friendly sound. But having that over thr top bombastic camp side to things.
      Flash Gordon was more of less the start of it. And it fits Queen soo well.

I know I cant be the only one, I always rewatch your original Monster Madness on Halloween to get in the spirit. I just wanna communicate to you anyway I can that I think the fans want this channel to be just you and Mike. The other guys are okay but every cinemassacre fan i know would much prefer just a video of just you talking about Flash Gordon. The way you would talk about movies was very calming and informative, almost like Bob Ross. The review you just did of The Thing was a perfect example and return to form, it reminded me of the old video where you talked about Alien Invasion movies and their remakes. Just stuff like that was the reason I think people fell in love with your channel
