Cinemassacre reviews Dennis The Menace on Rental Reviews. In Dennis The Menace (1993) mischievous Dennis Mitchell (Mason Gamble) makes the life of neighbor George Wilson (Walter Matthau) miserable with his overactive energy and inadvertent troublemaking. Because his parents must leave town for work and can't find a baby sitter for Dennis, they ask George and his wife, Martha (Joan Plowright), to take care of him. But when burglar Switchblade Sam (Christopher Lloyd) breaks in to steal George's gold coin collection, he takes Dennis as a hostage, and crusty George must save the boy.

That's the actual deleted scene from the movie. The producers decided it would be too heavy for a family picture.
ya think
nope.
I'm glad y'all brought this up, I was so confused lol
For some reason, the beans eating scene had been stuck in my head for years, to the point that I forgot what movie it came from.
I was born in '90 and one of my earliest memories is being babysat by my grandmother and having this movie played on her "portable" 10 inch TV. Crazy how time flies.
I used to watch this with my dad, I'm 42 now.
He used to laugh so hard tears came out, he did the same for Tom and Jerry.
Sounds like a great man to grow up around!
I'm just a passing by stranger on the 'net, but regardless, my honest heartfelt condolences.
My dad used to love watching Tom & Jerry and the classic Roadrunner shows with me as well, whenever he had the time for it in his rare spare time.
I'll always treasure those memories.

A nerd line if ever there was one.
funniest shit I've ever seen
the thing with Mr Wilson being angry at the flower, was that he spent 30 years of his life raising the plant so it would bloom, so he couldnt do it again since he wouldnt live for another 30 years, so he felt robbed of his hard work caring this plant that is hard to raise
Dennis looks like if lindsay lohan n macauley culkin had a kid.
That's it!! I've been trying to figure out who he looked like!
Oh that’s disturbing 😂
I loved this movie when I was a kid and it makes me happy to see my children love it too. I've got to disagree with James on the whole flower situation. Mr Wilson had been growing that flower for 40 years for that one moment and he missed it. When he looked over just in time to see it wither away you could see him die a little inside.
Exactly, that scene probably stuck with me the most. What made it so heartbreaking was that it was something personal to Mr Wilson that he could never get back, and Dennis wasn't even trying to be bad that time, he was actually trying to help like his mom asked him to. The way Mr Wilson talked to him afterward was just soul crushing, saying he'd never want to see him again.... and right before he actually goes missing. And then George is the one who knows where to look for him because Dennis always talks to him, because he actually does care about him. I almost cry just thinking about it. I don't know how James could miss the point so much.
@@Annihilated481 He was almost a teenager when this came out. It might not of had that same impact on him. I knew Christopher Llyod was in it but I didn't remember anything but that apple scene and the scene with the flower dying.

I met Lea Thompson last year at Steel City Con. She was tickled when I brought up her role in this and Space Camp. She's still got it too and I don't care who knows it.
Small world. I was at that Q and A too. It was a blast.
When I saw him eat the apple with a knife it almost did the opposite, like, "Woah badass, didn't know that was a thing you could do." Sammy and beans, my main takeaways from my decades-old memory of it.

Words of wisdom
The best expression was when Mathau was chewing on the paint tasting steak. The facial expression went from confusion to the face dropping and you can tell he’s thinking “Dennis”
I actually sent in an audition tape for this movie. I was about 7 and I remember my dad getting pissed at me because he was trying to film and ask me questions and I kept fidgeting or being ADD.
Oh wow, that sounds pretty rough. I hope you and your Dad are on good terms now.
Dad must have thought you was a real menace and wanted to get it on film. At least make some money off of it.
That's actually pretty cool that you sent in a tape, though.
Especially considering how much VHS tapes costed at the time..
@@Nicholas_Steel????? This was released in 1993. VHS tapes were like, $1.99 at the dollar store.
I love how they give the second movie barely any recognition; the faintest acknowledgement of its existence.
I could've lived happily without ever knowing there was even a second movie.
@@BBHood217 it was actually the third at least to my knowledge.

Walter Matthau was truly one of the greats. Odd Couple, Sunshine Boys, Fortune Cookie, Grumpy Old Men, Charlie Varrick etc So many great movies. He and Jack Lemmon were one of the greatest duos in cinema.
Speaking of Walter Matthau... I think you guys should do a review of one of my all time favorite movies Grumpy Old Men. What a classic. That was the type of environment and humor I grew up around. I grew up around a bunch of grumpy old men and it's served me well over the years.
I thought Burgess Meredith was a scene stealer in both Grumpy Old Men movies
Cole TV Burgess Meredith nailed every single scene he was in. Especially, in my opinion, in Grumpier Old Men because even director Howard Deutch said that Meredith was suffering from dementia off and on and was forgetting lines and still insisted on working through it. It was a struggle but he left with an absolute gem of a performance in both.
@@nolanbrown84 and it was his last movie before passing away a couple of years later.
I absolutely love Grumpy/Grumpier Old Men. Hilarious and full of heart. Two of my favorite flicks.
The Simpsons episode where Bart and George Bush Sr have the Dennis the Menace dynamic is definitely one of the best.
Haha that was a good one

Please, review "Problem Child 2", one of the most absurd child's movie ever.
Please do. I recently rewatched all 3 this week.
I love problem child and number 2 is definitely my favorite because it is just so over the top insane especially him messing with all the women trying to come over and date john ritter. But they will probably review number 1 if anything mostly because it has Michael Richard's in it.
Fun fact, i read that Christopher Lloyd was considered for that role but he was busy working on Back To The Future.

Please do Problem Child next. That was my childhood comedy movie. ... and Kindergarten Cop.
4:35-My parents rented this movie; my dad laughed SO HARD at this line!
I definitely watched the hell out of this movie when I was a kid. My dad used to keep 2 VCR's hooked up so whenever we rented movies, he'd copy them onto a blank tape. He'd do it long play, and you could get 2 or 3 movies on 1 tape. We used to have a ton of bootlegged movies, copied from video store rentals. Did anybody else ever do that?
Yep! My Stepdad and I did the same thing! We had 100's of tapes with 2 or three movies on each, and he cataloged them by number in a Video Journal that we kept next to the T.V. guide.
And TV shows and sporting events.
I made several horror compilations that way.
We did that with the original Star Wars.
All three movies on one tape.
Yep, my parents were that way too.
Waiting for you guys to review The Last Starfighter, it's one of my favorite childhood films...
"Tastes like paint and wood"

When Macaulay Culkin guest starred in AVGN, I wonder if James asked him had he'd seen Spy Hard.

Just got finished watching AVGN's latest episode, and lo and behold I see this video added. Seriously, It took me a minute or two to figure out that this just came out. XD Great videos guys!
Oh man, I got this movie back in the Christmas of 1995 when I was about the same age as Dennis. The Scene where Dennis swapped out Mr. Wilson's Nasal Spray with Mouthwash and then replaces the mouthwash with Pine Sol always stuck with me. Thanks for the trip!
I started eating apples with a knife because of Christopher Lloyd. 🔪
Love the part when the boyfriend reads The Little Engine That Could.
When I see these... I can't help but think how close this video is to what it would be like to have found footage of a Hollywood Video store having a video call with a Blockbuster in an alternate timeline where video calling was invented in the early 90s...
The whole scene with Dennis and Sam had me dying 😭
"Michael Myers directed Dennis The Menace." I don't know why. But when I heard this it made sense lol.
"Watcha eatin'?" "A Apple"
I always loved the scene when Dennis vacuumed up the paint and then shot it out when he put the machine in reverse, and the paint flew into the air and landed in Mr Wilson's barbecue.
Lea Thomson is so damn hot, then and now.
