You don't realize how big the F14 is until you actually get to see one in person. They seem kinda small in the movies the way they thrown them around in maneuvers, but they are a pretty big aircraft. 63 feet long and 64 wide with wings extended

The thing I remember about Top Gun is when I saw it back in the day. I got a popcorn kernel stuck in my teeth early in the movie. And I spent the whole movie trying to dig it out, and I didn't git it out until the end of the movie. It left me with a phobia of that happening again every time I see a movie.

My father flew F-4s in the Marines off of the USS Ranger (and out of Da Nang.) 350+ combat missions in Vietnam, including one where he got chewed out by the air boss for landing on the Ranger with a plane so shot up it would never fly again. He loved everything about the movie. Also, he could not land successfully in the NES game.
Me and my dad used to watch this movie a lot, it was his favorite movie if I remember right. 2 years after the movie came out, my dad died from an air crash (he was the pilot), and seeing this movie now makes me kind of emotional. Flying a plane can be super dangerous and as we can see from this movie, even the trained pilots and actors can still die. It's NOT just a regular movie for me, nostalgia aside, its also a reminder of my dad and childhood memories. The timing of this movie video is also funny. My dad died on 22 June, so kind of close. RIP Dad;/

Regarding the soundtrack of Street Fighter II and this movie: The composer, Yoko Shimomura (also known for her work in various Mega Man and Nintendo games), was simply told to compose 8 or 12 (forgot the number of characters) pieces of music with vague ideas about what the team was going for. After they were composed, the developers picked themselves where to put the the music. Why they chose to put X in Y, I don't know. What I do know is that Shimomura was watching "Top Gun" the night before she compsoed Ken's Theme. She chalks it up the movie being on her mind.

I can attest that top gun is a real military practice, I flew missions with them near Sparks NV and they practice in FL as well.

I think it's probably more Maverick's fault goose died because he was flying too close to Iceman.
The F-14 TF-30 engines where prone to compressor stalls frequently because they where not designed for a fighter jet. This happened a lot until they where replaced with more reliable GE F110 engines in the F-14B and D
flew right thru his jet wash.
They should release it in Virtual Reality Theatres like "Big Screen" , I actually watched the original Top Gun in 3D in a VR theatre with other people once.
