David Gilmours wife said that he found it very hard to really show his emotions in daily life. The only time he could was when he had a guitar in his hands and you can see that in every live performance. Totally committed to the music. Ola you look wonderful in that sparkling top by the way.
I'm now 73yrs old and a child of the 60's. Pink Floyd, The Floyd, as we used to call them are one of the most iconic bands to ever exist! David Gilmore is definitely one of the greatest guitarist ever. You said it right....Pink Floyd's music is magical and beautiful! 🎶🎵💯👍👌❤️❤️❤️
Linda, I too am 73 now. In a world of dumpster fire trashpop, bands like Pink Floyd have always soared high above it all. They don't play songs. They perform exquisite compositions that go straight to the heart and soul.
While I agree in principle, those who love Floyd owe it to themselves to give Porcupine Tree and (Polish) Riverside a listen. Bot the same, but similarly unique.
So beautiful, one of Gilmour's best solos, and the atmospherics from Rick and the backing singers, just gorgeous. When Machan wails at the moment of peak energy, it brings tears to my eyes every time. Great reaction - I'm envious that you're hearing PF for the first time. I'd love to have that joy of discovery back with PF again, but the good news it, it never stops being beautiful.
I love this song so much - it’s beauty lies not just in the music, the poetry of its lyrics (of course, it’s Pink Floyd) but in its message of humanity. We need to heed this more then ever ❤
I'm 74 years young and pink floyd where and are still to me and I imagine loads of fans all over the world the best sycadelic progressive rock band incredible music still can't get enough listen to them all the time
To be able to play electric guitar like David Gilmour is a gift from God, as is this song. Yes, David can lift an entire stadiums hearts way, way up there with his solos and we wish they would go on forever. Pure musical joy! 🎸💖🎸
You think it is OK to deny David credit for his ability? No magic is involved here. This is what a lifetime of dedicated effort brings. So kindly keep your filthy god assertions to yourself.
@@donepearce So you hate God and blaspheme Him. Do you actually think that makes you a big man? It's a song for the homeless. We should all not turn away from them. This song actually got me started volunteering at the homeless food pantry. I enjoy cooking and they enjoy eating home cooking type food. Works out perfectly. It doesn't take much just stop in and say you want to help. Someone will put you to work. It's good work that makes it not seem like work.
I was at that show, saw it live, still haven't recovered from it's pure AWESOMENESS!!! Love your reactions! You really experience the music, love seeing that.
Really beautiful song and the first time I have heard it, like you I am just starting my journey with Pink Floyd and learning to appreciate their genius ❤
Another wonderful reaction to this amazing band Ola, - thank you for sharing this with us. I hope you continue to discover more from Pink Floyd and that it will bring you the same joy that it has brought to so many of us over the years.
My ears as a wanna be but not so great guitarist my whole life are keyed to every little note played on that instrument. David always kills it. Such emotion. Makes your eyes water up.
I watch this video multiple times every week, and still get goosebumps every time I watch it. In my opinion, it is the best best version of the best song by PF; I like it better than Comfortably Numb. And you're right, those backing singers are fabulous, in multiple ways. Glad you loved it, too!
I seen a music video David Gilmour in 1970 or 1971. They all have long hair. Have u reaction the song Mother or Have a Cigar. Two great songs Mother I suggest original video . Have a great day Ola ❤😊.
I love your heartfelt reactions ❤ I hope you'll check out Linda Ronstadt - Blue Bayou - then, once you're hooked, she has a 40 year catalogue of exquisitely beautiful songs. THE most gorgeous voice on the planet ❤❤❤
This song had a profound effect on me when I heard it all those years ago. The day after I went and sponsored a child in Africa. I hope I did my bit not to turn away.
Gilmore is a brilliant guitar player. One of the best but it just doesn’t seem the same without Roger Waters. You should check out their song “money “it’s got a brilliant Gilmore solo. Or the song “have a cigar “ more outstanding playing from Gilmore
For a great musical trip where the music never ends, check out the "Echoes" from David Gilmour Live in Gdansk (2006), his last performance with Rick Wright. The early live version from Pompeii is great, too. I'd give both five stars, even though there are differences.
For me, the best songs (along with "High Hopes") of the Gilmour-era of PF. Arguably, also within the top 5 best songs of PF (in any era), if not in the era of modern rock!
David Gilmore is the GOAT. One does not simply listen to Pink Floyd.... you go on a journey! I love seeing the younger generation discover amazing music. No computers used then!
Great (as always)! If you want to hear another famous guitar solo by David Gilmour, try "A great day for freedom" from the concert in Gdansk, Poland. This whole concert is awesome - the band is accompanied by the Polish Symphony Orchestra and it's riveting!
You just can't go wrong with this band, they always deliver, as they did here. I don't think you have done Echoes yet, for real old fans like me, it's one of their signature songs and a prog rock epic. There are 3 essential versions: The studio original off the Meddle album is an all time classic. The live in Pompeii 1972 performance in a unique setting (ancient Roman Colloseum) with them in their prime, playing incredibly for their crew and all the lost souls from Vesuvius a volcanic eruption from 2,000 years ago. Unforgettable! As is the last time David Gilmour played it live, on his solo tour in 2006 on the docks of the Gdansk Shipyards in Poland, where the Polish Freedom Movement began in the 1980s, also it was last time Richard Wright played it as well, very emotional and poignant. You should check out all 3 in time, it will be well worth your time, pretty young lady! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

9:01 "No! Go on!" Yep, that pretty much sums up Pink Floyd for most people: we don't want the song to end. PS: High praise should go to the vocal ensemble. Machan Taylor deserves more praise for her wailing at 8:03 because she distracted me from David Gilmour's guitar solo.
This concert, The Delicate Sound of Thunder, often gets eclipsed by Pulse (which is understandable), but I think it's probably their best live recording, and this solo is often overlooked because of the greatness of the "Comfortably Numb" solo (which is also understandable), but it's one of Gilmour's top solos, imho. I'll also throw in a pitch for "Yet Another Movie" from this concert; it's a bit brighter than but in the same spirit of "Sorrow" (both songs are from the same studio album)!
So my favorite bands back in the day... Yes, Chicago, Doobie Bros, Pink Floyd, Stones, CSN&Y, Allman Bros, Framptom, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac... later I got into the 80's and discovered my MULTIPLE girlfriends (LOL)... Joan Jett, Blondie, Chrissie Hynde, etc etc etc Hope you listen to a few of these!
This is like doing acid without doing acid......its a beautiful mind trip and an eargasm for the soul. Ola i really do enjoy watching you light up with these great songs, its so very cool seeing these songs touch your heart and soul. The best part is watching you "get it" in real time as it hits you on the inside. I know you are swamped with suggestions but let me throw just one more at you if only to keep it on your mind maybe, the song is titled Us and Them from The Dark Side of the Moon album. Its one i know you will love. My live version preference is from The Delicate Sound Of Thunder tour even though The Pulse tour has better lighting effects...the othe has better musical and vocal aspects. Plus, that was the tour i first saw them live...ill never ever forget that night in Cleveland Ohio, after driving all night to get there from my home town with my wife and two very good friends, man we were so young and free then. And that version is very, very close to the studio version. Just a thought. Stay safe pretty lady and of course..stay cool. ❤ from fla usa

I'll never forget the story I read about a cop who investigated a negligent homicide then went home and locked himself in a room and played this over and over at full volume for eight hours while his family pounded on the door.
Backing singers are beautiful, all three of them carrying this song into a new dimension.
