- Parkland school shooting survivor Samantha Fuentes describes what she remembers from the shooting that nearly took her life during an interview at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. The shooting took place on February 14, 2018, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17.
It sounds like she has told this story so much that she can’t even feel emotional. That’s scary af
fr its so sad how desensitized ppl are
@@yabsera4975 just cause there are some people out there who don’t get shaken up by school shootings doesn’t mean they’re desensitized.. human beings have become extremely sensitized over the course of history. Wars, human sacrifice, violence, raping, pillaging, and raiding used to be the norm from ancient times to about the 1900s.. human beings aren’t meant to be soft to these kinds of things, we’ve just become soft overtime because of our extreme privilege to live in a world where there aren’t close physical wars and a world that’s so technologically advanced
Sometimes it's how you deal with difficult things.
Jesus died for your sins and rose again put your faith in him to be saved,.
shes numb to it now
she’s by far the best person to describe this. she didn’t leave out a single details i could really picture it.
Trauma do this
@Over used plans YES!
She is living in fear with what happen mate i hate to live through what she live threw mate lucky to be alive mate
my heart DROPPED when she said “i’ve gotten shot”. its sad that she didn’t realize, but it’s also the best way to not realize. she wasn’t in pain at all, it was too much adrenaline. i hope she’s fine now
When you get shot you don’t feel it until you see it or like injuries in general
I saw she had a black eye and everything her legs were shot all over
I’ve been stabbed before, as a kid. Funny enough i didn’t feel it. I was weak and obviously had trouble staying conscious, but I felt absolutely no pain from the wound till like a few hours later. Crazy how the body works.
The saddest part to me about this story is how she explains things as “obviously it was...” or “as everyone knows...” bc shootings shouldn’t be normal and the fact that there’s a “school shooter look” now is just... I don’t even know... I’m a student in Colorado and this year even in the 18-19 school year that we were on lockdown for basically a week straight because of shootings near by and none of us were surprised and that’s horrible
Desensitization to violence is normal for humans, it's how we have survived as a species. As terrible as school shooting are and how it is now normal you have to realise it is normal for us to become desensitized to the violence. We could not have survived all the shit that happened in earlier human history. It's one of the ways how in modern times most people are extremely privileged in that such acts of violence and barbarism aren't something that occurs regularly enough or at all for us to become desensitized to it.
@@dnw009 That's true, but I think about the fact that we shouldn't need primal instincts anymore a lot. Of course it's not like anyone can help it, but like you'd think we'd evolve by now. Just from a purely logical standpoint, it's always been weird to me that humanity doesn't evolve and cancel out psychological responses like that. I'm no psychologist tho, so maybe that's just me being too hypothetical.
@@em.kay21 We might in the future. Just keep in mind that with evolution it is often forgotten just how slow creatures evolve. We have had need of these instincts and still do depending on where you live, or what your job occupation is.
It isn't safe. Every student should stay home and be able to do school work online its risky it could happen again. Just pray God God everyday
Right. My daughter is 6 and has done 3 years in school. 2 years of full day Headstart and a year of kindergarten
They do drills for fires, tornados (we lived in Kansas) and also for school shootings. The drills are nothing like I thought and the kids are so desensitized that it’s their norm. It’s all she knows
They are taught to fight and run. Not to hide. For obvious reasons. So they grab scissors and pencils and pens and anything to fight back with which when the shooter has a gun this makes no sense. I do like that they teach them to run rather then waiting to be the next victim but the though scares the hell out of me. Most of these stories were the first few classes and had no time to react. So of course they simply did what instinct told them but some school shootings those kids were in lockdown and had time to run out if they did haven’t schools locking down the classes for the shooter to open the door and come and shoot at them.
She was terribly disconnected from her experience when she told this story. I hope she is doing well today.
I watched another girl tell her story, and she also had Holocaust class and she mentioned a Samantha. Are they in the same class?
I thought the same thing-
Yes
Maybe
there's more than one samantha the other one was black i think
@@junior_583 nah there's more than one samantha
They are so brave to do this, we should all show them respect and love.
That Random Gorl I agree!!^^
This girl is pretty badass. Obviously these kids are all traumatized and suffering from PTSD but I hope someone in their lives encourages and guides them into using their experience to help other survivors of violence and trauma. Not only could this amazing young lady gain a lucrative career in psychology or motivational speaking but she could truly heal survivors utilizing her ability to know exactly what they're feeling and building trust by speaking to ppl as she is here. Therapy is so cold sterile and impersonal.. It'd be refreshing to hear a mental health professional say "that's so fucked up I know what ur going through". Sry to the 0 ppl who'll read this for my rambling but I hope this strong brave girl knows her potential and how amazing she is. 🦸🏻♀️💪♀️
Wow her description is fantastic! I have no idea why I like watching videos like these.
me too
@Anjelica Espinoza me too
@Anjelica Espinoza same i feel bad for being interested in true crime or school shootings maybe its because I want to be a journalist i still feel emotion tothese things tho
Me too, but not in a creepy way. I guess it’s because through high school I’ve taken many criminal justice classes and then recently took a forensics class, so I guess it’s justifiable
@@amandapalacios2403 No, shes just an insensitive POS who survived
I just love her. The resilience and greatness just beams from her. These kids are really incredible, I am just so proud of them.
I love her too. She seems like a nice person to be with and talk to. I hope she is doing well.
For everyone confused how she didn’t feel the bullet it’s because of the adrenaline it sometimes “erases” the pain for a short amount of time
Wow when she said "you know the classic School shooting look" so sad! I can't believe that it!!
Well, the first school shooter was in 1840, so there's documentation on the look.
The vision problem was is tunnel vision. It happens when your sympathetic nervous system activates and dumps adrenaline. The hearing could have been tinnitus, but it may have been auditory exclusion.
Ok smart ass

I must say, she physically healed beautifully!! From seeing her wounds to now, it's astounding! I'm sure she is still healing mentally, and my thoughts are with her! 💕
"theres blood everywhere. but then i look at my bag and theres this valentines day balloon hanging from it. and it was still inflated. and it wasn't punctured. the whole room was sprayed but this balloon did not pop. i dont know what that means to me but it measns something" gut wrenching.
Any person who has been through a school shooting is so strong
My Beautiful friend from college went here and it’s done a number on her psych. Prayers for all the victims 🥺 They will live with this trauma for who knows how long ...
I'm so sorry baby. Sorry you went through this. Your matter of fact and nonchalant demeanor in the video belies a deeper hurt that will probably emerge much later. Be aware of any symptoms of PTSD. Do not go down the rabbit hole of survivor guilt. It is easy to do. Please get some therapy to help you recover and make sense of your tragic experience. All the best for and to you. You are loved.
How can she describe someone getting shot in the head as if it's no big deal...
Trauma
Lush Daylo she’s trying not to think about it that much cause trauma
She has probably told this story so many times
are you serious she played it off that it wasn’t a big deal about her friends getting shot but when she noticed she was injured she was like “now we got a problem”

God bless and protect this young lady mightily 😣🤚
Wow. That is quite a story and she told it very, very well. Chilling.
Such an intelligent young woman. So glad she made it out alive ❤️
This is a lifetime story. Thankful she made it out alive 💜
the way she describes it is gut wrenching, my heart hurts for the victims and their families 💔
Holes in her story as well as her legs. lol
I feel like you’ve never heard an actual, emotional, untrained “tic-Tok”ing robot- tell a real life story. Where they appreciate life, the value of reality, and don’t treat things like their reviewing a video game.
She's an old soul who's strength shines through. 🙏
Such a brave girl! So glad you told your story. I’m very happy to see that you’re in n college and I’m excited to see you change the world 🌎.
she will never forget what that happen that day that i do know poor girl she lucky to be alive mate
Why does the SWAT member tell her not to look up?
For her sake, if she looked up she would see all the bodies and chaos
maybe because of injuries or so she doesn't see the aftermath :(
maybe cuz they don’t want anyone to see the blood and bodies
@@LilyDelane Isn't looking down worse? Seeing all the dead bodies and blood on the floor rather han looking up into the ceiling?:p
@@ZuNk well, i don’t think that they meant “up to the ceiling” kind of up. looking down can be dangerous, too- but if you look up ( which they meant straight toward or at a normal head level ), then you’ll see all the blood and dead bodies
Amazing how she didn’t know she got shot till afterwards. The mind is incredible. Emotional Trauma can be worse and mask physical trauma.
We need to take care of our mental state
I am so so so sorry, for those who have gone through something like this. To anyone who has lost someone, or got injured. I am so sorry. I live in Denmark, and have never heard of something like this in my country.
I wish I could make your pain go away, and hug you tightly. 😢
Because Denmark is a good country that looks out for its people and protects them. The US throws its people to the wolves, makes it easier to get a gun than a driver's license, then scratches its head when something like this happens
USA is a baby compared to Denmark. We're still trying to figure life out.
So articulate with the details.,, 🙏🥀Brave soul. Strong vice for those lost. Strong voice for those whose voice was cruelly silenced. 🙏 💔💜🥀🙏
“There’s two dead kids in the hall way.” The way she describes this without emotion and throwing in jokes and curse words is terrifying
Shes so strong for telling the story without crying or anything
Good bless you
She and emma Gonzales are so different in the way they approach and tell the story. Emma has a lot of pent up anger. This girl is letting life be life. She is going with the flow and has accepted what has happened.

Agreed. She explained it all so well I never got bored.
I'm grateful she survived.

Omg. I can't even imagine 😢
"I hear my friend Aleah hyperventilating, we tell her to *shut up*."
I feel so bad for busting out laughing at this, God just send me to hell. For once though, I'm glad I'm taking my classes online.
Unfortunately it has become all to normal these days it is horrific! It has got to stop! The fact that she talks about this so nonchalantly is incredible. She needs therapy. They all do. For their hearts, minds and souls. 🙏
“Typical school shooter look.” That shouldn’t even be a normal thing to say…
No one should ever have to go through that; I'm thankful that I haven't gone through it and hopefully not in the future; although I'd be damned if certain survivors tell me that guns need to be band. Your not taking away my security when I have no one to protect me on the spot. Not a sitting duck Love.

You don’t need a gun to defend yourself if it stops this nonsense. Love, the uk.
Jasmine 24 a gun being the most effective tool for self defense I think everyone should have an ar-15 ready to fire at all times to ensure that you have a tactical advantage over the criminal and you come out alive.
Well not everyone. People with anxiety and depression and other mental illnesses aren’t mentally stable enough to have a gun. It can tempt them to kill themselves or do something like this. Most school shootings, or shootings in general are caused by mental illnesses. I agree that if you are mentally stable enough, you should have the ability to buy a gun, but it should be much more difficult to buy on than it is, that would probably give a major decrease in the number of school shootings in america.
@@Jasmine-ld1pm if there were no guns you wouldn’t need a gun to defend yourself. It’s common sense I truly don’t understand what the US find so hard about it. Especially when there’s SO much evidence (like the UK, Australia) that completely backs up that making guns illegal prevents crime sprees like this massively.
She’s great at telling her story. I’d love her to do a podcast one day. Everything she described was so clear that my mind has created a distinct picture.

Wow I cannot believe she almost trip over a body how traumatizing on top of all the other trauma that happened. I am glad she is alright I wish all the other children were able to make it out that day & or that that never occurred in the first place. & I know this is off topic but I love her cut color & style hair very pretty.
Teaching people how to handle this is a good and bad thing because the student that shoots could be a student there😥.

Why did he say dont look up
So she stayed focus, didn’t stop because of a dead body or because she saw something and started freaking out
maybe she had an injury or so that she didn't see what happened to her classmates
Probably better to not move at all. Shooter could see a head lift up, and decide to shoot the person again. Just a guess.

Wait, don’t most guns use 2 hands? I don’t remember really seeing people holding a rifle single handed.
She probably dosnt know much about guns. Wtf?
Out of this horrible, traumatic Story..You comment about how she explains about how to hold a shotgun...Really.??
who cares?
Unbelievable
This is insane. These kids are too young to have to tell this story
How can we follow her today ? Social links ? Current name ?
She is amazing!
How does everybody remember all these details? I’ve been involved in a few very serious incidents and I lose my hearing everything is in slow motion and I have tunnel vision- only seeing very few things and hearing almost nothing.
Afterwards it’s even worse into this day my memory is super sketchy for most of those incidents involving near death.
For cases like these, sometimes victims work with psychologists to unrepress memories in order to give detailed testimonies.
These comments are pretty slow.. The reason she seem like she don’t care is because she probably told this story so many times I know the first time she cryed.. She trying to tell a clear story, I bet if she was crying in between y’all would still be mad ..The reason she couldn’t feel the shot is because the adrenaline.. When you in a serious confusing scary traumatizing situation and as she running her adrenaline was running so she couldn’t feel anything ..A lot of people said they got shot and they couldn’t feel it till a few seconds later.. This boy got shot in the head and didn’t feel it till a few seconds later ..She can probably hide her emotions so well,
She would make a great kids story teller

What about the active shooter drill that was scheduled that day? Many students and parents mentioned it, so what time did it happen and where is the security camera footage of that?
i've seen other student interviews say i was rumors like it could've happened that day or another day

What happens to the shooter?
He's currently on trial. Yes 4 years later. Alayah Eastman (sorry if I haven't spelt that correctly) spoke of these events and apparently the freshman building has been preserved for evidence. 😩
He got life in prison without parole
It was an AR-15
and?
Doesn't matter, they are weaker than most semi automatic rifles and function the same.
Wow I’ve had less traumatic stories to tell and I’m not this put together thru it all.

How did u not feel the bullets
adrenaline? idk
Desiree Prieur When you get shot, and it tears the tissue, you will be pretty much immune to pain for a while because of a mix of Adrenaline + shock. The gunshot wound will feel like someone pressing into it non stop and it will feel numb. After that, you will feel pain, but not the pain youre thinking. Its hot pain, as if lava got poured on you constantly because the bullet is boiling hot since it got shot out of the gun.
My mom got shot 7 times and she said she didn’t feel anything because her adrenaline was going like crazy. She said she didn’t feel anything n until she was calmer. The mind is so powerful if your mind is in panic nothing really matters. Its crazy stuff.
Jaz Cheecha Yup, Adrenaline is like magic powers lol. My sis has been running 5 blocks around my house because a dog was chasing her. Turns out it was adrenaline what kept her running like that, after that she didnt feel tired at all but once the dog was gone and she calmed down her lung hurt and was having trouble breathing. I hope the 17 victims all didnt feel any pain. They will get justice this summer, since trial will begin, they will also show inside footage aswell
