- When baking a colour texture from a 3D scan to a low poly model, the lack of geometry in the low poly mesh can cause some overlapping artefacts. To solve this, we can use something known as a “cage”.

Sometimes I think you are my guardian angel on Blender matters. You always upload what I need. Thank you very much!
Seriously
Same here, he is the blender angel.
Yeah. It just came up on my feed when I was wondering about a solution.
This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for!!
welp, after an hour trying to baking and failing , I finally found the right recipe thanks to you
Thank you Jan
This BLEW my mind. You're a wizard, Blender Secrets
Another good way is in sculpt mode use the inflate to make the cage bigger than the low poly
Awesome - thanks a lot!
Thank you 👍
ty amazing!
i love it, me sirve
I am curious to know why this works better
Sadly the normals baking from multires is still broken. Instead of new features, it would be nice if the fundamentals work. Solidify stil broken too, in 3.01
You are a saint
Thank you for the tutorial, how can I bake Transmission, I can't get my head around that, do you have a video shows that?
How to aproach when your mesh has deep cavities or corners? When make my cage with this method. Baking overlaps on the edges
thank you so much sir, You just saved me from mental breakdown
can this be done with baking AO as well ?
Getting the "invalid cage object"-thing but it has the same number of faces??
Thank you so much, It works perfectly for baking diffuse. So The normals part its still trial and error for me. Even baking AO. Blender baking is terrible though and substance painter bakes are easier than blender, Sad to say
Baking in Blender could still receive some love. You could almost say... it needs some more time in the oven? I'm sorry.
how are you know all those things?!
cages :D a secret okaaay :P
Can you use displace modifier to do that instead ?
Sure, and then you can use weight painting to change some parts. I found just scaling along normals faster, I tried both.
and do the UVs need to be similar for both the highpoly and lowpoly?
When baking, only the low poly mesh needs a UV map. The high poly doesn't need one.
Indeed, they couldn't be the same as UV's are dependent on geometry. A one million triangles mesh by definition can't have the same UV map as a 1000 Face low poly model.
HighPoly does not need to have UVs. The texture bakes from the vertx color of the scanned model to the UVs lowpoly model
So when modelling i need to make uv map for the low poly version only right?. Can smart uv do the job will? Because iam bad at uv editing and putting seams.
@@silversoul2785 Yes, you do. And yes, smart unwrap is fine I use it all the time.
I wanted to know how to make these scanned models
Find tutorials on "photogrammetry". ruclips.net/video/j3lhPKF8qjU/видео.html
I usually just whip out my phone and record video around the object, then convert the video to about 100 to 200 JPEGs, then load those into Realitycapture.
@@BlenderSecrets I could do that but, Realitycapture uses nvidia's cuda nucleos, do you know any alternative for apus users ?
@@Nieverton69 Did you try meshroom? It's free but it's just kind of slow.
@@BlenderSecrets dont working i dn know
in marmoset u can do this with one slider
Ah, I haven’t used Marmoset yet. Probably something like the “Extrusion” value in the Cage options in Blender?
@@BlenderSecrets yes, its basically extrusion of lowpoly, simple but effective
