In this quick video and blog post I'll talk about a common question that a lot of newbie auto painters ask themselves. How much paint do I need to paint my car? How much paint to paint a car?
The video above explains it all.
But for the readers, I'll break it down. You want to ask yourself two questions.
1. What size is your vehicle?
2. What type of paint do you plan on using? Will you use enamel, or will you be using base coat clear coat?
For example: Let's say we're painting a small Mazda Miata with single stage enamel paint. And because the car is small we'll only need about 2-2.5 quarts of mixed paint to cover the vehicle two times.
When painting an averaged sized car, a one gallon kit (of enamel paint) is usually just enough for a medium sized sedan car or light truck. Most times you'll have a little extra.
This is why when painting your car, I do not recommend mixing the whole kit at once. I would mix 3/4 of the kit, then start spraying. Most times that will be enough. If you need more, just mix half of the left over, or all of it.
Basecoat Clearcoat Paint- How Much Paint To Paint a Car?
When painting with a two stake paint you not only need the color (base coat) you'll also need the clear coat, hence base coat, clear coat.

I am going to join VIP shortly. just one question what spray guns do you use i hear so many stories painters saying buy the cheap spray guns, then you go to paint shop and they say a cheap spray gun gives you a cheap spray job, i have no problems buying an expensive spray gun but will the paint go on any better
I use ATOM X. The X27 or X88 is a great gun. If you were a good painter you could manipulate any gun and even do an OK job with a cheap crappy gun. But the cheap guns don’t last and the atomization is not the best. But you don’t have to spend seven or nine hundred dollars to get a great job done. You can use a good medium grade gun that delivers high end results like the Atom X guns that I use. In fact I feel they spray just as good as the 1000$ SATA 5000 as I also have one of those. Plus with ATOM X they give you a free GunBudd Lighting System! zoolaa.com is where I get all of my products! I hope this helps you!

@@Farmer2492 Watch this video! ruclips.net/video/D28yhq1AeG4/видео.html just sprayed this a few days ago. Single-stage acrylic! Spraying with the Atom X88. But like I said, the X20 or X27 are also very good spray guns. The X20 is like for the DIYer. The X27 and X88 is a higher-end spray gun.
Is the Atim gun rebuildable? Do rhey sell rebuild kits?

When doing a color change you should also factor in a colored sealer tinted close to the color that you decide to change to , this will aid in a uniform layer that is close to the color your changing too, leading to fewer coats of color to hide the underlying color. Primered spots take 2 to 3 more coats of color to hide because of transparency where one coat of sealer gives you an even background to spray on!

I'm painting my car, I'm using Basecoat Binder.
1st color is going to be Silver Aluminum Candy Pearl's 25g mix (Binder mix with Pearl's
2nd color will be Candy Apple Red.
So would 1 gallon be ok, because mixing with reducer? Thank you

I got a 1987 Cadillac fleet wood brougham 4 door a lot of car it has no body damage at all the clear is coming off and paints starting to turn yellow i want to paint the car which would be my best option as far as enamel or base /clear and with vehicle that big how much paint and material to complete the project i appreciate everything you do thanks.

Hi , What about a 1995 Buick Century wagon , no color change. The car clear coat will be sanded and buffed to get rid of orange peel . I want to use Acrylic Urethane.

Hi, I painted my plastic bumper and when I spray painted the clear coat I used spray can and looked like it matched my car BUT I decided to use a spray gun after the 4 coats of spray can clear coats and used a gun two do 2 last coats but now it looks different the the rest of car Q: how can I safely remove clear coat???

I'm sure you've long got rid of it. But don't put a clear over a single stage. There's a high probability of a chemical reaction resulting in a very bad finish

What are your estimates for doing a 72 ford ranchero GT are plan is to use a synergy green acrylic urethane paint since we can't buy pure urethane paint in california.

I am not doing my whole truck painting it but how many coats of paint should I apply. Is 4 or 5 coats good of paint. When me and my dad did it before we put more than 4 coats. I think it was at least 5 or 6 coats of paint we put.
Keysta, I usually do 2 coats of color, 2 coats of clear but it's all up to you.
@@HowToPaintYourCar I just bought more primer because I used a different paint code PS2 on my truck which is different than mine PSB I see the different shades of grey on my truck so am repainting it again but with PSB a pint. Am painting the front of my truck but not the top or very back. And also the drivers side rear door because am getting another door at the junkyard. So 3 doors painting and the front. I don't know if that will be enough but I bought a pint of PSB paint on eBay for 40 but I still need to buy more clearcoat and I have one spray can of sandable primer that is light grey primer. I already have guide the powder stuff but I think one more of paint a pint will be enough to paint all those areas.
