Now you have me reaching for my ECBP B524. There's a baseball game airing on the TV so I'll have to hurry to beat the opening pitch. Great show as always! Cheers!

This was a great duel ! Really put in perspective what expectations you can get from both of these HH products. Great video as usual #Cheers

I'm with Erin on bottle 2. I got an ECSBBP Private Barrel store pick about 3 months ago $79. I absolutely love it

I picked up a ECSBBP Private Label Twin Liquor during their annual sale for $60. Spectacular

Hot take… I have enjoyed WHH17 over HH18 this year. Makes me want to find a backup of my WHH17.

Facts. HH18 was lackluster in comparison to WHH17 and falls well short of HH17.

I have been developing a liking for high proof whiskeys, though I don't see any reason to be a snob about it. It does make it difficult to share some of my favorites with friends and family though, lol.
"Here, try this Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, it's only 65% ABV! Just let it breathe for a bit so all of the ethanol fumes clear out!"
    Cue the wide-eyed stares.

Sadly you cannot find that 17 year old for less than $950 online

It’s an issue for sure. So it goes with distillery-only releases. Supply and demand, but that hardly helps one feel better about not being able to find these bottles.

I doubt I’ll ever get my hands of the WHH 17 year - not at $300, or higher which it likely will be. I’ll admire the WHH 17 year, but will continue to purchase and drink the EC Barrel Proof. Interesting matchup.

About the discussion on ECBP proof at 14:35; It's not really about the proof, it's what the proof indicates. When comparing different ECBP batches, everything else being equal, the higher the proof, the more intense the aging process was, higher temps, etc. So it should have a more intense flavor & longer/stronger finish. They are all barreled at 125P, so a batch at 121P would have more barrels from the lower floors, creating a softer palate & finish, compared to a 130P+ batch.
Most people that seek out BP pours, are not going to prefer a softer whiskey, so they are likely to prefer the higher proof batches, even if they didn't know why.

Generally true, but it’s also a bit of a generality, which is never the whole story. I’ve had hot batches of ECBP that were low proof and higher proof batches of ECBP that drink with great flavor but low heat, and I’ve also had low proof batches that are soft and lacking while some high proof batches are all heat and little flavor.
At the end of the day we prefer to leave it to blinds and the actual batch/bottle over the generalities of what should or shouldn’t be, because at the end of the day, what “is” is all that matters.
As we said, our two recent favorite batches of ECBP in the last few years are B522 (one of the lower proofed batches) and C923 (one of the higher proofed batches), so it’s hard to draw any conclusive correlation between batch proof and quality, drinking experience, etc.

Josh, you and I seem to both have right nostrils that are sensitive to alcohol. About the only thing my right nostril can detect is alcohol, and I have to be careful nosing stuff above 100 proof or I'll get a number 4 char in there. 🙂

ECBP Is one of my favorite pours. I don't even care what batch it is. Yes some are better then others but they are all good in their own way .

HH17 I loved! Was not a fan of the B522, so many better batches.

Yup. Nailed it. 120 for sure is hot. Just like my hot sauce, if it’s too hot to taste the flavor - what’s the point? To all those who have developed a steel coated mouth - we solute you!

I've had 90 proof juice that drank hotter than my Knob Creek store pick at 120 proof. Sometimes the proof is only part of the heat. 🙂
