Eagle Rare would be my everyday sipper and once in a while you can find it in the Ann Arbor, MI area but each store typically marks it up beyond my pay grade. Darn.
I'm also stocking up on NFC Wild Turkey Rare Breed right now, just in case they start pushing the price up. Fortunately, we can still buy them in the Netherlands/Germany for less than €60. So every few months I buy an extra bottle. I now have 4 in stock.
I find it Crazy, I live in Perth, Western Australia, and Eagle Rare is in probably 70% of liquor stores.. super available.. everything else is either super expensive because of Australia’s alcohol taxes, or just very had to get unless you look online.
I have a place that sells Eagle Rare for $75. 107 is $199 typically. Full proof is the same unless you find them at a drop for MSRP. Stagg is $199-$300. I would have cases of 107 if I could get it for MSRP. Birthday bourbon is $999.99 in the “wild”. Glad I don’t need to have it! Great topic Joe and Jill 😂
I was able to pick up 4 Eagle Rare’s they were going for $52. Not to bad. Have only been able to pick up 1 Weller. I LOVE Stagg Jr. 24 A!! I picked up 2 at $78.
On the basic Buffalo Trace products (Eagle Rare, Weller, etc.) it can be worth paying a bit of a premium for a store pick, especially if you get to try it first. Aside from that, there are plenty of good bourbons that are readily available, so I don't feel inclined to hunt for them or buy them from museum stores. As for the others, I'll be surprised if I see them anywhere for a reasonable price, so they aren't really on my radar. Maybe if I happen to travel internationally, I'll look out for the non-chill filtered Rare Breed.
The only George T Stagg I have ever seen in the wild is at this little liquor store near my house. $1000. He also has Stagg for 179, E H Taylor for 300. He has other things priced really nice, but I have pretty much stopped going there once I saw the markup on those bottles. It makes me mad that a retailer would do that.
Some bottles are easier to purchase on secondary. MBSR & MTBSR are great examples. $160-175 all day long. I would obviously prefer to buy SRP, but you can’t locate them frequently enough.
Yeah, I have to agree with Michter's Barrel Strength Rye! I was able to snag one at the distillery a couple years ago. It is fantastic! I've been nursing it for almost two years and only have a couple pours left 😢. I've never seen another one anywhere else. I did see the Toasted Rye at a local store, but they wanted $180 so that was a hard pass for me.
Everyone loves Eagle Rare, but on my palate it's real underwhelming. There's a lot of whiskey out there which I downright love which is a ton easier to find, and costs less. And everything I've had from Buffalo Trace comes across the same to me - with the single exception of Blanton's Straight From the Barrel, which I liked. And there is still stuff that I like just as much or more which is more available and costs less. 🙂 10:24 That's a great idea for a video - bottles that y'all would buy less of "regular" whisky in order to be able to get. Given y'all's different approaches to spending, you'd probably need to have two lists, one from Erin and one from Josh.
Honestly this list is pretty much those bottles. We’d be happy with a few staples like Rare Breed + Hard Truth High Road rye + Early Times BiB, a few single barrels for variety like Knob Creek + Russell’s + Nashville Barrel, and more of all of these. We also don’t drink a ton so bottles tend to last a fairly long time (which makes it easier to stomach higher prices).
S&W. It's not up to WT to make the RB NCF 1L available for same price. Liquor sold in the U.S. to civilians is subject to Fed excise tax of $27 per gallon of alcohol & each state adds their own excise tax (avg of ~$10/gal alcohol) plus most add sales tax on everything. Yes, you pay sales tax on both excise taxes. That's over $35/gal excise taxes, that do not have to be paid on exports, which include duty free. So would encourage you to use your platform to make people aware of this & for people to contact your elected representatives, if you would like to see a change in any of that. Note: The tax is on the alcohol only, not the total liquid amount. So for same size bottle; 125P would have more excise taxes than anything lower, like 90P & a hazmat bottle would have higher taxes than a 125P bottle.
Stocked up on Eagle rare and EH Small batch at the two ghost drops we’ve had in nh this year.won a GT Stagg in the state lottery and scored a 107 state store pick at msrp. Our stores are state run and usually have a pretty basic selection but I’ve gotten lucky this year. Also good thing in New England is our states are close and small so you can hit a couple in a day if you want. 😂
It’s definitely a whole list of garbage they do to us. Great video I understand both of your perspectives I am also cheap but I also like to have something special around that I would splurge a little
I can always get eagle rare, and usually a handle. It was 36.99, but I think it's $40 now. I have a couple open store picks so I haven't been shopping for it for a while. I can almost always get Weller 107 for around $100, and I waffle every time I need a new bottle. The Full Proof is always marked up way more, and TBH, I prefer 107. I also seem to be in the minority on RR 15. I tried it (non blind) with the Single Rickhouse CNF and batch 2 of RR 13. I much preferred the CNF. And while I could recognize that the 15 was higher quality than the 13, I actually preferred the profile of the 13. The 15 went over the oak line for me. Perhaps on another day I would have liked it better. But I paid $70 for my RR 13, and as long as I can get one of those around retail every so often I don't think I'll chase the 15.
Interesting on RR15 vs RR13 and CNF. It wild how polarizing and opposite they are for folks who otherwise have similar palates. We enjoy CNF but don’t find it special, we find RR13 batches to range from too light to too bitter oaky, but we really enjoy RR15 (and I especially adore it).
We’ve got both and don’t find them comparable off memory alone but will give them a try and see if it’ll make an interesting video. Honestly my favorite substitute for 107 is actually Four Roses Single Barrel. I find a similar cherry sweetness in both, and the lower proof rye recipe presents similarly on the palate to the higher proofed wheat recipe. I love putting those two in blind flights side by side for folks. Four Roses almost always trumps 107.
90% of their catalog is pretty middling to us, but these specific products are the ones from their catalog we enjoy (and I’d say we’re only truly enthusiastic about a few of these-BTAC basically).
The list is solid. I would also add Jack 10 year, 12 year and the Stagg Jr.
Eagle Rare would be my everyday sipper and once in a while you can find it in the Ann Arbor, MI area but each store typically marks it up beyond my pay grade. Darn.
We feel ya there! Here's to hoping it's more available in the future.
Really enjoying this channel’s content. I am glad I found you! Have a great day
Stocked up on Eagle Rare 2 years ago when it showed up at my Costco for $30. Have not seen it since.
The Costco’s here in the Cleveland area do not sell liquor only wine. You guys are lucky.
@@Crookedriverhooligan yes but our state charges us a 20.5% liquor tax and another $3.37 per liter fee.

Eagle rare is difficult to find in Oregon, but is attainable, I’ve been able to get 4 bottles in the last year at $39 each.

Scored an Elmer t lee last week, paid way too much, but it’s the first one I’ve seen in the last 5 years.

Online is the way to go for me. Because of the bizarre pricing though, a bottle of Rare Breed non filtered beats most things.
Love eagle rare. I stock up when I see it around 40
Which is often enough

@@scpakman I'm almost certain it's just Stagg Jr...that's what they usually go for whenever I can actually find one here in Indiana
Eagle rare is fairly available in the Memphis area

A hurricane party!? That’s a new one for us!
At my local Ralph's, about 40 ER sitting on the shelf.

I found the WT Rare Breed non chill filtered Rye 750 ml bottle at my Costco two years ago for $55.
Dang I didn’t even know they made an NCF Rye! Bet it was a gem 😋
Yep the Rare Breed ryes are all NCF. They save the NCF bourbon for the duty free international markets for some reason.
@@stuffandwhiskey I never realized those those were NCF lol. That’s why I enjoy these spaces, I still get to learn a few things :)
Question: how do you guys get those little sample bottles I have seen u guys get in the past?
We just order them from Amazon. 2 oz Boston rounds with poly cone lids. Very affordable and easy to put samples together with. Just use a good funnel.
Eagle rare is one of my favorites, but in san Antonio, its about $80 to $100 when it's available. 😢

I don't think you can get Michter's BS rye or Toasted Rye for $100 anywhere in the world. Especially, the toasted.
That’s suggested retail and what the distillery and good stores sell them at (unless Michters raised the retail price and we didn’t hear about it).
