Good video and great recommendation. I still consider myself a novice In Bourbon. But my price point in the last year has risen to $40-$50 a bottle. Currently my favorite is Longbranch but have enjoyed Buffalo Trace 😂😂, Russell 10yr and many small localized bourbons. I’ll try anything twice but will limit rye drinks. I have not tried the list here but will definitely not shy away from your suggestions next time I’m looking for something new to explore.
I'm a little over a year into getting into bourbons. I like 4 out of the 5 picks you came up with. I don't know what it is about Basil Hayden but I did not like the bottle I bought. I mean, I drank it but, still. Just subscribed to you guys. The content looks very informative and entertaining.
I’m a beginner but I like German products my first whiskey was Eiffel German Rye whiskey. I don’t know why beginners are encouraged to try so many lower priced whiskey. Love this Rye whiskey I keep in stock.
New subscriber and new to bourbons. Currently have a Woodford Reserve, Four Roses Single Barrel, and a Blantons Single Barrel. Doing a local tasting in a couple weeks, cheers.
Not a fan of BH not a bottle I’d suggest. I try and get new drinkers to the 90-108 range. I would argue that the higher the proof the more flavor you get. I’d start them with Woodford or Four Roses single barrel. Even Knob creek 9 would be a great option. Honestly anything under 90 is just like drinking water super thin. Another great starter would be Redwood empire pipe dream it’s an excellent bottle. If they need to add ice or a bit of water that’s fine. But I’d never recommend anything under 90 proof.
Hey there! No hate for Buffalo Trace at all. We just felt that a lot of other videos feature it, so we wanted to feature other choices. We did feature Buffalo Trace on our “Best Under $35” video though!
@@BarrelHuntersATX just started the whiskey journey again alitle later in life now. Definitely on the budget list but so far I like gentlemen Jack ( first one I actually enjoyed neat. ) and I have been really enjoying some Dublinger Steelers edition. Sip it during the games and it’s the first whiskey I had the “ ahaa” moment, where I realized I do like whiskey.
Nice. Irish whiskies can have that effect! Pretty cool that they teamed up with the Steelers for that. I’m a Patriots fan myself (grew up in MA). Brutal year! Cheers 🥃. -Ryan
Another great video! Makers 46 is the best bang for buck IMO
Thanks! An excellent choice, good sir.
Got a thumbs up o your opening statement!

Haha! Nothing wrong with Buffalo Trace, but it is harder to find than the others on this list.
Nice recommendation with Longbranch too!

Much appreciated! As far as Basil Hayden goes, it’s hit or miss with a lot of people. I do enjoy their Toasted and Red Wine finished bourbons though.
It’s interesting how people’s palates are, Basil Hayden to me is harsh but WT rare breed is smooth

Not sure i’ve ever seen that German rye before. Drink whatever works for you!
My beginner Bourbons were Bulleit Bourbon, Evan Williams black label, Four Roses Small Batch then single Barrel.
All great choices for beginners as well! Love me some Four Roses.

Excellent! I think you’ll enjoy all of those. Thanks for the follow! Cheers 🥃

I think Pipe Dream is a great addition to this list. Not sure it’s available everywhere, but if so, absolutely!
I agree it helps build up your taste quicker to just go to the 90 plus. My fallback is always old Forester 1910.
My beginning and still current to Bourbon is old Forester 1910
Funny you say that because one of the videos we have coming out in a few weeks will feature OF1910! It’s easily my favorite of the OF lineup. Cheers!
Why the dislike for Buffalo Trace? Thanks for the video and you definitely had some great choices ...mostly.

👍
101 is this 1 L or 700 ml?
750 ml
Basil Haydn would not be on my list.
That’s fair. If you could replace it with one, which one would you choose?
@@BarrelHuntersATX Elijah Craig small batch
Solid choice. We included that one in our “Best Under $35” video. Love their toasted barrel as well.
Yuck, makers. One of the first I’ve have before learning to appreciate whiskeys. Ruined it for me.
Really?? Interesting! What are your go-to’s these days?

@@BarrelHuntersATX ahh long time rivals!! Cheers to that🥃! Good luck this season!
You may want to try Red Breast 12 year, extremely smooth and light, yet flavorful
