My first visit last year (well second but that's a story for another time) i learned just three things. How to greet, how to say thanks and how to say goodbye. the amount of times local people were happy to hear just that basic attempt was surprising. I am returning in August so will make a point to commit all of these to memory.
**Takes Notes** Xin chào Vân!. Tõi tẽn la Marvin. Cảm ơn for the lesson. I hope we get more lesson vids on the side so I can one day write a full paragraph using Việt. I want to learn the language at a college in California but it's mắc quá! Anyways, xin lỗi if this is incorrect. Tôi không hiẽu. Have a nice day!
This is what I needed I always go to Vietnamese nail shops they do the best and take special care and attention to your nails from the bends and make it shine. I love speaking to them when getting a manicure and pedicure.
This is an amazing video! This is the most helpful video I've found yet! I met and married my wife in HO Chi Minh City and always have trouble talking to her. But this video gave me confidence and motivation... when I go back to visit her in Vietnam on January 16th 2025, I will be using these tips. thank you soooo much! I wish you 100 years of happiness in all of your success.
Vietnamese is a very nice language. I can't wait to learn and become fluent. Vietnamese is ONE of those languages that have tones associated with their words. The tones are beautiful to me. It makes Vietnamese a sweet language 💖💖💖
Great video. My wife has been trying to teach me and she struggles with helping me understand the sounds you did a great job describing using English words.
Thank you so much for your content. Almost unbelievable that it is free with the quality of videos. I've just moved from London to Da Nang and trying my best to learn. Cảm ơn :)
Thanks Van for this video. I am going to Vietnam for the first time in June and this was very helpful. I'll be rewatching again and again to get these phrases down. Cảm ơn 😉
Thank you 🙏! Cam on em! I teach online and I will be in beautiful Vietnam 🇻🇳 next month visiting many of my dear Vietnamese students. This survival Vietnamese is just what the doctor 🧑⚕️ ordered. New subscriber today, an American 🇺🇸 professor in Taipei, Taiwan 🇹🇼.
Nice to find someone teaching the northern dialect, quite a few Southern lessons out there.. My family who I would like to communicate with are from the North. Many thanks!
another great video van your really good at teaching this was a very helpful video thanks van ! love this channel keep up the good content i’m gonna share this video with my nine vietnamese friends that wants to learn viet thanks van
It's the Communist Party Vietnamese Xin chao, Vietnamese people never use it in their family, with friends or in society. If you see an old waiter/waitress and you call him/her "Em oi" as in the video you can get a slap
I’ve been in Vietnam for months and I’ve only heard people say “xin chào” when greeting, so don’t underestimate how much it is used. This includes everyone from people selling in the local markets, street food, supermarkets, strangers, friends, and everything in between.
Thankyou so much for free lessons.I watch lot of Vietnamese videos. I am picking up a few and meanings this video will me more .Learning about Vietnam thankyou .❤
i love how much she's trying so hard to connect english words and concepts to vietnamese even though it doesn't make sense. bow new tin. she straight up gave up with "you're welcome" and tried to sweep it under the rug. it's hilarious, lol!
Thank you for this video, I am just starting to learn and this is really helping me. I want to be able to communicate better to friends I have made and will in the future.
This is so cool. Our family lives in the US, but one of my parents immigrated from France. We took a DNA test and, though we don't really look it, found out that we are significantly Vietnamese. We then were connected by DNA to other Vietnamese people living in the US and Vietnam... sooo, gotta learn some Vietnamese now! Thanks
Thank you so much for this, especially specifying the differences in dialects. I have just started wanting to learn Vietnamese and this video was very helpful. Càm on. 😊 🇻🇳
Great lesson. If you have time could you make one more about hotels like: how to ask to extend, room service or no room service, extra towel, etc. Thank you.
Thanks for the entertaining and very informative content, from the clever channel name on down. I was lucky enough to visit Vietnam a few years ago on a Mekong River cruise, and I think it's a fascinating place. I'd really like to go back someday to see more, especially Hue and Hanoi. Also, if I may add--your presentation is delightful, and you are just as cute as anyone can be. Keep up the great work.
Awesome video!!! Thanks for these lessons once again :) my native language is English, but I do know a bit of German and Japanese, I am able to use those two in the same sentence, for example, Kon'nichiwa Ich Bin Alex :) I am of German decent, so that's why I do want to learn more German along side Japanese and Vietnamese :)
Thank you Van. With gestures. I am learning Vietnamese much easier. Also good to know the differences between Northern and Southern Vietnamese accents.
Ohh great video with both accents. I'm surrounded by just one and its hard to understand the other at times, depending. I need more of this type though more advanced.
just like to comment that cảm ơn sounds really similar to mandarin chinese's 感恩, a tiny "cheat code" for me (english/chinese speaker here 🇸🇬) to remember how to say thank you in VN haha.. also, thank you so much for this video! i'm just starting to try & be a bit more serious about learning Vietnamese.. the cues for numbers really helps :)
Hello Van! I love your videos! They helped me choose Saigon as my new home 😊 Now that I’ve been here a few months, I’m ready to start really learning Vietnamese beyond the basics of ordering 18 different kinds of coffee and saying “thank you” and “sorry.” Could you recommend a company that does great classes for expats?

Hello Vân, you are amazing. Your parents must be from Northern like we were. Our daughter ̣̣is probably your age, she speaks Vietnamese well but with Northern accent only. Looks like you can speak with Southern accent too.
Wow! Vietnamese is the first asian language that makes sense to me. The tones and inflections with simple sylabuls is pretty easy. No hidden letters, everything gets pronounced... Vietnam, what are you about to do to me?!?!
My first visit last year (well second but that's a story for another time) i learned just three things. Thank you for watching 😀
@@WhatThePho your channel helps me to learn Vietnamese language easily without joining any Institute . It saves time and money both. 😊

You’re a natural teacher. Your method of explanation is excellent, especially for a language as complex and tonal as Vietnamese.
Thank you!

One of the best videos I have seen this year. Love youuuu❤
I like the learning by association. It makes it a lot easier to remember.
You have no idea how helpful this lesson is was to someone who is brand new to learning Vietnamese! Thank you!🙏
This is one of the best that I have watched regarding basic Vietnamese learning. 💯
Good lecture with Vietnamese Northern & Southern accents.

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it ^^.
many vlogs saying "Xin chào" is toooooo formal, and rare to be used in daily life. so when I see a girl, simply say "chào em!"
Nice!👍
Chào em anh đứng đây từ chiều😂
