American loves gossiping with Vietnamese Aunties deep in Vietnam's market 🇻🇳

  • Everybody sells in this market starting around 1pm and goes until they sell out. I would say they are normally done around 5pm. So the best time to get here would be between 2-3pm.

My favorite thing in the world is that my brain thinks of you as kin because you’re a Southerner speaking with a Southern accent but then you so smoothly transition into Vietnamese! My mind is starting to positively associate Vietnamese culture with Southern culture. We gossip and cook and share food the same way. You even treat the Aunties the same way we do. It’s just a really pleasant experience for me. It’s rare to find Southern language RUclipsrs. I’m like genuinely shocked at how big of a deal accent is to comfort level. I didn’t even recognize that there was a distance between me and RUclips’s English-speaking polyglots until I heard your voice.

If you haven't had the pleasure of dealing with Vietnamese immigrants in the US, you're missing out. They tend to be really good at integrating with their local community while still maintaining a lot of their culture, which they are proud to share with others. I've heard from foreigners that the Vietnamese in their countries are the same as how I've described them here. Basically, the Vietnamese make a great addition to any community that welcomes them.

It's the day before Lunar New Year here in the U.S. and this wound up in my feed. NYC transplant living in Northwest Arkansas, so I'm acclimated to the Southern accent and hospitality. The first thing to get used to is how folks just have a conversation with you waiting on line for anything - bank, grocery, restaurant. Seeing him do the same in Vietnam just shows you can take the boy out of the South but you can't take the South out of the boy. 😊

Okay. I have to admit. Your southern Vietnamese accent is so damn good! That is very hard to to pull off due to inflections and such. Also, you know how to humor with the locals. I’m absolutely impressed!

the "pomegranate" in vietnamese che is really tapioca made to look like a pomegranate. one of the ways i've seen it done is with water chestnuts or jicama diced dredged in a tapioca solution then dried, then cooked so that's how you get the chewy crunch to it.

I love the coffee. I have my nail technician (who I met last year) who has become my friend. She gave me the coffee while I was waiting and I LOVE IT!! I do not like coffee. I have met her children and her sister owns the shop. Their father is just so adorable. He finally said hi to me and I was so thrilled. My nail tech translated what he was saying to me and it filled my heart.
