Your argument about listening drills resonates with me a lot. I started learning English by the end of 80's, when word of the internet was still unfamiliar to most people around the globe - not to mention the social media. I came from a non English-speaking background and would not have a 'privilege' to attend prestigious English schools organized by the British Council or some american expats in my home town. However I would get western music and Hollywood movies that taught me English with words and phrases of colloquialism - and of course along with the pronunciations as well. When hanging out with friends I would brag about my 'English teachers' who were not only native speakers of English but also famous stars of the Hollywood movie industry and popular singers or musicians. Anyway to achieve good command of spoken English would never be that easy for me. It took me years to collect words and phrases that are commonly used in spoken English of natural settings. I would write them onto small note books, that I called mini dictionaries of mine. Afterward I would take my time practicing with them by creating sentences orally whenever I could, even when I was on the bus - and I wouldn't give it sh*t if people around frowned at me for catching this silly guy talking on his own 😂.

When I watch english movie I face problem becoz they speak too fast and I could not catch that ..then I have to switch on subtitles to understand what they are saying 😢

How you hear English is closely related to how you speak English. There are some sounds in English that are not in your native language. If you don't hear and can't hear those sounds - you can never improve.Active listening will improve your vocabulary and pronunciation, so when you do speak - there will be a great improvement! Better input - better output!

But, I do remember this, In the benning when I was trying to improve my english all I was doing is just listening and trust me it was really helpful. However, I thought just listening will be not enough to improve, so I started to fousing to improve my grammar. But to be honest, when I was trying to hard to improve my grammar, I get angry and started to feel lazy to not to learn english anymore. When we converse in English excessively without mastering it well, it can be detrimental as we frequently find ourselves at a loss for words. This situation arises because we don't expose ourselves to enough English in relation to the amount we speak or read. Patience my friend. It takes 9 months to have a baby. There is no way it can happen faster. Because we know one langauge already, we want to be able to speak like that in English. It took 2500-3000 hours of listening - then we said our first word. 2 more years after that we went to school. Still made mistakes. Why do we think we can speak English perfectly after a few courses? Listen more. Get more vocabulary and improve your pronunciation by listening. Don't be anxious to speak more. Watch more videos on my channel and others. Look for videos where you can understand 60-70%. Let your brain figure out the rest. Listen to short clips of 5-8 minutes. Over and over again until you understand...

My recommendation is for you to look around. I don't know you and it's hard to recommend. When you are looking, find something that is interesting to you. it doesn't have to be about learning English. If you have a hobby, that's perfect. Find a podcast that you can understand 60-70% without a dictionary, that's a good fit. Let your brain figure out the rest. On this channel you can try the 5 minute English vocabulary podcasts. See if they fit your needs. (60-70% understanding)

I think you're listening practice is still in the classroom. expose yourself to the real world. Active listening means being engaged with the speaker. Being interested in what the other person is saying.

We need to learn speaking of english, yes you said by listening,
How you hear English is closely related to how you speak English. There are some sounds in English that are not in your native language. If you don't hear and can't hear those sounds - you can never improve.Active listening will improve your vocabulary and pronunciation, so when you do speak - there will be a great improvement! Better input - better output!

But, I do remember this, In the benning when I was trying to improve my english all I was doing is just listening and trust me it was really helpful. However, I thought just listening will be not enough to improve, so I started to fousing to improve my grammar. But to be honest, when I was trying to hard to improve my grammar, I get angry and started to feel lazy to not to learn english anymore. And I found your video today, Where i realized know that I was actually learning in a right way. Know I'm finally encouraged and I'm difently going to issue your tips. When we converse in English excessively without mastering it well, it can be detrimental as we frequently find ourselves at a loss for words. This situation arises because we don't expose ourselves to enough English in relation to the amount we speak or read. Patience my friend. It takes 9 months to have a baby. There is no way it can happen faster. Because we know one langauge already, we want to be able to speak like that in English. It took 2500-3000 hours of listening - then we said our first word. 2 more years after that we went to school. Still made mistakes.
Why do we think we can speak English perfectly after a few courses? Listen more. Get more vocabulary and improve your pronunciation by listening. Don't be anxious to speak more. Watch more videos on my channel and others. Look for videos where you can understand 60-70%. Let your brain figure out the rest. Listen to short clips of 5-8 minutes. Over and over again until you understand...

When you are looking, find something that is interesting to you. it doesn't have to be about learning English.
If you have a hobby, that's perfect.

I don't fully agree, but I see your point on some aspects.I exposed myself to a lot of listening just like you said but it turns out I got stuck at the intermediate level
I think you're listening practice is still in the classroom. expose yourself to the real world. Active listening means being engaged with the speaker. Being interested in what the other person is saying.
