Love how the locals welcome you. It amazes me how they want to help you fit in. May they have many blessings. I teared a bit and was emotional. With the way the World is today especially in the USA it is beautiful to see this.
I’ve noticed that in other countries when foreigners want to really learn and experience the culture the natives absolutely love it and will welcome them like family, but in America they’ve somehow twisted it up into viewing it as “stealing/claiming other people’s culture” so it’s viewed more negatively at least in this day in age.
I agree when you try to speak their language even if you make mistakes they will adore you. People always complained about French being rude but when I always approached them by asking if they spoke English in French they smiled and were always friendly with me. I know it's a mess in our country with over $5 gas and high inflation everywhere. Vote Trump if you want tax cuts and lower gas prices which will lead to lower prices for everything. It's common sense.
You and other people doing these kinds of videos are great! It shows what parts of other countries are like for those who has never travelled. It also connects people and cultures from around the world in a much more intimate and casual way than say documentary channels. The more you see and experience, the more you appreciate and understand the different cultural perspectives present but also realize how deep down we are all connected across the globe.
Her mandarin accent hits me with Such nostalgia. I don't live in Vietnam anymore and I have forgotten about small things like this, but once I see/hear them it always feels like a warm surprise hug from a friend you have forgotten about for no reason.
I was in Vietnam last week (Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang) and even though I am a Viet Kieu (Vietnamese-American), the people there still got a chuckle when I spoke Vietnamese to them. They love it!

I absolutely LOVE Vietnam. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled throughout the entire country, and it is, without doubt, one of my favourite places in the whole world. The people are so friendly and hospitable, and the country itself is simply stunning. ❤
Love how genuine this was! You guys & the shopkeeper. Really encourages me to learn a new language & shows the potential for what can come out of it ❤️.
Lovely video mate! It just goes to show that whatever country you're visiting people really appreciate if you've taken the time to learn their language. Even if it's just please & thank you, it makes a huge difference. In many countries people enjoy getting to practice their English with a native speaker but to break the ice being aware of local customs & taboos and having the basics of their language shows respect and will open doors that are closed to people who expect English to be spoken everywhere. That café is a little jewel! The food looked amazing! A heartwarming video!
Very cute video, Chris. And that woman was so happy to see you again. God bless her. Showing no matter what culture, religion, or skin color… None of that matters. We are all the same inside and out and it’s not the people of the world that, create the issues… It’s the politicians. According to the politicians, we are all at war all of the time, and every country hates every other country… Yet, when you see videos like this, and others of the interaction between different people from different cultures and countries… you see humanity at its best. Unfortunately, I don’t know Vietnamese or Chinese… Because I would fly over there specifically to hang out with grandma. She seems like she would be a blast to sit down and talk to about her life and growing up. Chris, you are very blessed. Savor every single moment and live every second of every day to the fullest. Never take anything for granted, and when you get a chance to love… Love with every ounce of your heart. We all only have so much time on this earth. So we need to spend it as freely and open as possible. Drink every drop of life in and don’t miss one experience. Because we never know when that experience will be our last. No regrets, only inspiration and aspirations. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have a happy new year.
I didn't notice anyone really talking about you like the title suggests. But After seeing how friendly and chill people are there, I 100% want to go visit (and maybe live!) What sweet people!!!!!
Probably for clickbait, I have seen a lot of videos where that does happen though, not necessarily bad things either, just pointing out things like maybe they like their shirt or think their hair is cool. And then they respond back in that language and they’re so surprised and their reaction is adorable.
Some of the best hospitality i ever received whilst travelling was in Hanoi off of vendors just like this woman. Several times my wife and i didnt even have to pay. They just gave us food or beer (we still gave money as it's very inexpensive to travel there).
Totally understand the local people’s reaction to Chris’s ability to speak Vietnamese. My parents are from Hong Kong and I was born and raised in England; I speak with a Hertfordshire accent and even today some of the reaction I get are like ‘Where did I get my accent from?’ I jokingly respond with ‘Amazon’ 🤣🤣. I’m 53yo I still get the same reaction around the UK. For those non-Brits, Hertfordshire is a county that borders north London, so the accent is softer London accent.
Chris, I love it! another winner, keep it coming my man! I watched this 5 times now, that lady is great. You found one best friend after another. I’m so jealous!
Hi bros, you guys look awesome as usual, the food look delicious and healthy and the people are super friendly. Enjoy your travel, greetings from Kenya🇰🇪
What an incredible experience, incredible people and country. You sound great with both your Mandarin and Vietnamese! Always been fascinated by their culture and people and language, but who knows if I'll ever get there. Thank you so much for sharing, it lets people like me visit vicariously. Thank you!
I spent 10 years travelling around 5 continents, and can honestly say it was amazing...but watching them huddle in front of a fan outside, made me thankful those days are over 😂 Obviously you can travel at any age, but if you are young, I urge you to do it! Most of the people I graduated university with 12 years ago rushed into the rat race and marriage, and now many of them have retrained in other careers and I am no worse off than they are. The race is only with yourself. I would not trade trekking the Sahara, sleeping in the Amazon, living in Tunisia, food tours in Singapore, and any other adventures I had for any position or amount of money. Get out there kiddos! 😍
People in Vietnam are often surprised that I can speak Vietnamese fluently because they constantly tell me that I look South Korean, despite my insistence that my parents are Vietnamese and I'm a Viet-Kieu
I'm both Chinese and vietnamese American born (confusing I know) it makes me so happy to see people speak BOTH of my languages. It makes me want to see her in Hanoi 😂
This area is a Chinatown, an ethnic enclave of Chinese people like every one of those Chinatowns in America and many countries in the world. Chris was about to pronounce it in the video, but he remembered the last time he did, he was kind of "attacked" by those nationalist Vietnamese lol. So he changed it to Saigon- Cho Lon.
I really enjoyed watching this video. These beautiful people serving you this unusual food but looking so good. I’m impressed, talking to them in their language. They all look so very friendly and kind. Ive just subscribed to you. Can’t wait to see more of your videos. 👍
OMG I thought I saw you in Saigon few days ago bloody hell wish I asked I’m home now in Australia I’m going to learn as much Vietnamese as I can for my return in sept
Most time I spent with another culture was visiting my girlfriends family often in S.F. They were Chinese and while not in China, still had a very different way of day to day living and attitude about life. I loved the way everything seemed to revolve around food. We were either sitting at home talking and snacking on things from the market, going to the market to browse, or cooking a meal for her family (8 people every night). Everything was done deliberately and with ease whereas a lot of American households bicker about food prep or where to eat, what to eat. They were most hospitable and reserved. I learned alot about peace through clarity of process. I wish I picked up a little Cantonese while I was with them 😄
I can tell this grandma love's you like you are her own grandchild. You are such a gentleman also so i am going to sub. Great content, amazing thank you so much. Much love from The NL
Got the opportunity to visit Vietnam back in 2019 (not to Ho Chi Minh City though but Hanoi) by train for a summit and absolutely loved it. Chinese influence in Vietnam isn't surprising when you know the history. The Vietnamese language was historically written in Chữ Nôm, which is a logographic script that uses Chinese characters. But they ended up changing to a Latin script as a result of French colonization (though the language is still very much influenced by Chinese on top of French). The ancient Chinese brought cultural, religious and philosophical thought to Vietnam, where the Vietnamese gradually developed and adapted on its own
Funny thing about it though: we Vietnamese call your grandfather Kim Il-sung in Sino-Vietnamese reading "Kim Nhật Thành" (金日成), while referring to your father and you as just Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un instead of "Kim Chính Nhật" (金正日) and "Kim Chính Ân" (金正恩) respectively.
Nah bro that’s awesome, it baffles me that you made such a big impact on her life that she could remember you from two years back, maybe their is faith in humanity after all! That really is amazing, finally something on RUclips worth watching
Cheers! It is a blessing to know that there are beautiful people all over the world. We need a whole lot more of Chris and Max to spread a bit of peace and goodness around.
As a Vietnamese born in Europe I've always had lots of difficulties to learn vietnamese.. 40 years later I can't barely speak it.. just a few words.. and all my nephews and little cousins born here are even worse than me.. they don't understand a single word.. I'm impressed with his level.. i may not speak my own language but I can tell his vietnamese is amazing...
Viet born in Aus and same situation :( I've been learning on and off for 7 years and I can't understand/speak basic sentences. I don't even know how to properly say I/you because of the pronoun system -_- Vietnamese is severely underrated in terms of it's difficulty to learn and would probably rank harder than Mandarin if it weren't for the difficulty of Chinese characters.

Beautifully said!
Vietnamese people are extremely friendly and lovely. I’ve been living here for 4 years and they still make me smile every day.
Oh what fun, she loves you guys like a momma duck lol, and no doubt appreciates not only the candor but probably the publicity and recognition you have brought their cafe (?) You have a new sub, cheers from BC Canada, safe travels guys!
I found your video on my recommendations and im glad I did. I like these more intimate style vlogging to different countries. Its so refreshing and beautiful to see how much you appreciate culture and your effort to connect. We should all be like this, subscribed ✨
Wow! Talk about feeling welcome. What generous hospitality and friendship the sweet older lady offered. That’s pretty special.
The little old lady is so cute and sweet, she adores you Chris 😍🥰she’s so excited to see both of you 👍
Enjoyed this video, you have a great command of the language! I did learn Vietnamese too but always struggled when listening, your videos really help. Vietnamese people are really generous, the grandma look so friendly and nice to talk to 😊
Vietnamese language is easier than Chinese and Japanese
@@thaibinhduong8567 Yes, definitely. It's just the part on catching onto what was said that is a bit tough, some locals speak quite fast. Still learning :) One of my native language is Chinese, and I do agree that it is tougher!

This is the best vlog from you two and that lady is so beautiful and sweet! It really shows the true human spirit of saigonese, friendly, honest and down to earth 👏🤩👍
I don’t even know why I clicked this but I was really into the entire video they’re all so sweet and I love how excited she was to see you again I almost cried
The old lady is so cute and sincere. Remind me a lot of my grandma and my mom. Miss them both.
Watching this made me happy! What a lovely, lovely grandma! 🤗
You know Vietnam supports Russia and not Ukraine…
Бабушка всегда впечатляет 🥰
Priceless! Love watching your interactions with the locals. They treat you like family. You value all the right things Chris ☺️
love it, this is real life, people are happy to see you again and they recognize that you are visiting them again. It shows respect from both sides. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.
I absolutely LOVE Vietnam. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled throughout the entire country, and it is, without doubt, one of my favourite places in the whole world. The people are so friendly and hospitable, and the country itself is simply stunning. ❤
You can tell the publicity from people filming/writing really effects the business. She’s very grateful for them, it’s so sweet.
I love watching when you make videos with Max
give grandma a big hug from all of us around the world, she deserves it :)
They just gave us food or beer (we still gave money as it's very inexpensive to travel there).
wow that's amazing to hear! Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you got awesome people treating you so wholesomely!

White man worshipping.
@@xmuta My wife is blacker than Wesley Snipes at night and i'm Latino... Not sure where the confusion of being white is.

What an incredible experience, incredible people and country. You sound great with both your Mandarin and Vietnamese! Always been fascinated by their culture and people and language, but who knows if I'll ever get there. Thank you so much for sharing, it lets people like me visit vicariously. Thank you!

Chris your Vietnamese and Mandarin is good 😊 loving seeing your collab with Max - thanks for this video ☺️
I bet the last video you made blew her up, I'm glad to see her happy and prosperous enjoy all the love you get from your adopted grandma 😁
People in Vietnam are often surprised that I can speak Vietnamese fluently because they constantly tell me that I look South Korean, despite my insistence that my parents are Vietnamese and I'm a Viet-Kieu
I'm sure its not as surprising as seeing a white guy. And not many people can tell the difference between a South & North Korean person. You're weird
Việt kiều :))
Hi

being said you look Korean is a compliment until white people do it
I'm both Chinese and vietnamese American born (confusing I know) it makes me so happy to see people speak BOTH of my languages. It makes me want to see her in Hanoi 😂
The lovely lady is in Saigon (South of Vietnam)
omg same!!! hong kong + vietnam for me :)
Majority of Vietnamese have Chinese ancestry
This area is a Chinatown, an ethnic enclave of Chinese people like every one of those Chinatowns in America and many countries in the world. Chris was about to pronounce it in the video, but he remembered the last time he did, he was kind of "attacked" by those nationalist Vietnamese lol. So he changed it to Saigon- Cho Lon.
Love to hear you said ' bon em xin phep nhe' so polite & cute👍
I really enjoyed watching this video. These beautiful people serving you this unusual food but looking so good. I’m impressed, talking to them in their language. They all look so very friendly and kind. Ive just subscribed to you. Can’t wait to see more of your videos. 👍

I wish I picked up a little Cantonese while I was with them 😄
Chris, this video was top notch!!! Love the interaction and Grandma was soooo great!! Keep moving forward Sir!! HN

Grandma is so adorable! 🥰
Your Vietnamese language skills is perfect northern dialect. I'm impressed. Much respect to you.
Chris rất khéo. Ai xem cũng thích bạn.
I don't even know how to properly say I/you because of the pronoun system -_-
Vietnamese is severely underrated in terms of it's difficulty to learn and would probably rank harder than Mandarin if it weren't for the difficulty of Chinese characters.

I already love the food in Vietnam Chris, but never had Dim Sum there! This small restaurant looks great, could you provide the name or address of it? Thanks
This restaurant is not the best dimsum restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.
There are Dim Sum restaurants, vendors...everywhere in HCM city. From expensive to cheap...
it's not about the best dimsum. It's about the kindness of the people who live in vietnam. Plus better food more pay for someone who can afford.

Imagine people where english is their first language, getting that excited when we speak in their language with them.
If yall would quit invading our countries and insisting we pretend you are our people, and getting mad if we ask where youre from or try to help you with your English, then maybe we would do that. But we even insinuate you are anything other than a real American and you blow a gasket. Yall ruined our countries and made your bed, now lie in it.
