For Super Luigi U. The developers had impossible moments where the faster timer would make it impossible to finish a level, so they decided to have the timer count actual 100 seconds.

wow, i've been playing NSMB DS since a wee little kid and i never even thought of that crazy how even 15 years later i figure out new stuff about this game
the "2nd player can place blocks" was actually the main reason I liked NSMBU best, though. I've always found the co-op in this series frustrating rather than fun - you're just getting in the way. But with NSMBU, my sister was able to support me via the gamepad and we beat the hell out of the game! Felt good to cheese levels with the bonus blocks. Also, the overworld was neat. I don't mind the abrupt transitions between themes at all, and I really enjoyed the way the hidden paths construct themselves and connect the world. We played the Luigi DLC and it was fun, too, but I honestly didn't feel any difference in the quality of level design. It was all just kinda "ok", like the series as a whole.

I do feel like more and more people are coming around on this game, as people are beginning to rate it even above the Wii game. I’ve played and 100% NSLU, and it is every bit as challenging as he says it is. I found a lot of merit in speedrunning the time attack challenges if you play it through Deluxe.

I actually grew up with NSMB2, I’m glad someone finally appreciates it. I’ve probably put more hours into coin rush than any other NSMB game, and it even sparked my love for speedrunning. In fact, it’s the first game I ever attempted to speedrun, I believe the fastest run I had was 36 minutes. Sure it’s nowhere near a fast time, but sure, why not.
Same! The 3DS was the first console I actually put time into. I got a Wii first, but the 3DS has stayed with me for my life. I recently Homebrewed it, and now I can play all of the games without cartridges!
I’m genuinely surprised that I watched this whole almost hour and a half long video. I was expecting to skip a bunch because of how long it was but it was so interesting to see a whole breakdown analysis of these games. Good job making this, it probably took forever to make and edit. Keep up the good work! Edit: Grammar
the wii game is the best with more people OR if you have unlocked everything and can just play the best levels. the best of the wii is some of the best in the series
@@choppiemcdonald As Silok said himself, the Wii game is best enjoyed when playing with other people, otherwise I'd approach the Wii version with a bit of caution if you plan to do a single player playthrough. It's still fun, but it's kinda empty at times.
Another cool thing about the coins in NSMB2 is that it finally gives a reason to exist for the time limit. If you had infinite time, collecting many coins in a level wouldn't be as impressive. It doesn't seem very intentional as the game doesn't really play with the time limit regarding coins though, which would've been very cool. Like imagine one NSLU-like stage with only 100s but lot of places to go all field with coins but in many different way and where you have to really master the game and make the most optimal path to get a high score while still being fast enough to finish the stage, that would be a banger.
@@Midnight_horrors885 maybe they wanted to give more freedom, to have a true “free for all”, instead of forcing players to play a certain way. it would have probably been better to explain one of the ways to play the mode though

The Wii game was my favorite became it gave me nostalgia. I use to play it so much because it was fun. And even though it didn’t show us new stuff it was still my favorite. I later played the DS game and it was good as well. The U game was also good.
When I bought the wiiu (don´t judge, that thing has actually good games and I wanted to experience them) the only one available was bundled with new super mario with the added luigi dlc. I played the main game and didn´t wanted to continue with the dlc since it used the same overworld map...Maybe I´ll give it a fair shot after this video!
@@imreallytomcat I just booted up my old wii u and the games are awesome! Mario kart 8 is great and I don't have to waste more money on my switch. Splatoon 1 is absolutely awesome! The wii u is underappreciated.
I honestly don’t see the problem with the A button be so close to the D button and it also does help when your in single player to not lose a life, it only comes at the cost of your power.
The other day I realized that Mario is probably homeless. He wakes up everyday running around in the same clothes, runs around in the sewers, beats up people for their money and what does he spend it on? Mushrooms.
Dude, for no reason at all i LOVE NSMB2. That's one of the only games i 100%-ed. There's something about it i can't put my finger on. I also feel like most secret worlds were extremely hard to find. The only thing i hated is the lack of the twirl. Feels good to do it

NSMBW will always be one of my favourites, it’s the first Mario game I ever played! I can still remember back when me and my dad played it, to this day I still get nostalgia just thinking about it.
I started watching and only when i was 40 mins in did i realise it was an hour and 20 mins long ?! 😂 kept watching and u really took everything into consideration. Its made me rethink some of the nsmb games 🤔...
I can actually explain what the thunder storm from the Intro is about, there is a boss in W-7 or 5 (6) I think who has the ability to strike lightning. He’s is one of those hooded figures(I forgot their names but they appear pretty much in all nsmb games), that often use some kind of magic, in this case lightning. Though not really that demanding, he is, in my opinion, the most difficult boss out of the first game
I’m becoming addicting to critiques and documentaries for some reason. I don’t mind of course, guess it’s because of quarantine and boredom (or procrastination).
My favorite is the original, it had great power ups that forced you to think ahead, some great secrets even if some were cryptic, a shockingly good soundtrack and ascetic for a DS game, some phenomenal short but sweet levels, and the best versus type mode out of any Mario game in history that I spent hours on end playing with my younger brother.
This is a really good video! As someone who's played every single entry in the series to death, I was really surprised to find that I wasn't the only person out there that didn't hate NSMB2. I have lots of fond memories with that game, hell, it pretty much got me through a single roadtrip singlehandedly. I love what it does with such a limited concept, and I honestly thought the secrets in that game were the most fun to find in any series. I rarely had to look anything up like I did in later entries. Luigi U was really fun for me as well, since I love a challenge, and although its not my favorite entry in the series its a close second behind NSMB! NSMB is truly my childhood game and the minigames and versus mode make it my favorite in the whole series, ESPECIALLY with friends. This really sent me back and made me think about all these games critically, and while the series is tired by now, I really enjoyed playing all of these one way or another. Thanks for making this, I had a really good time watching!
same, though NSMB 2 would be better if it had something that is not DLC that is as hard as 9-7 from wii. Also love the DS vs. mode, I used to play it with my sisters on road trips along with mario kart and phineas and ferb into the 2nd demention, and I wish I could do it again, as It is so fun and have not done it in 4+ years.

I played the Wii one when I was five and came back to it recently with friends... I was killing everybody left and right. I was the chaotic evil of the group and made everyone suffer... I am a monster... And I will never change.
I only play video games with my family about 2-3 times a year cuz we only have a wii and they don't like to play, but even when my familly plays and I try to keep them happy, I "accidentally" shake while running and then stop running in front of lava
For Anyone here who has not seen this video yet: SilokHawk doesn’t hate any of these games, and he’s just saying his opinion, so don’t dislike the video because what are you doing here if you aren’t here to listen to his opinion, and not everyone has the same opinion as you.
Honestly I treat this group of games as re-releases for separate consoles, (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). They do it so everyone can experience a 2-D Mario game, no matter which console you have. You‘re not meant to play all of them, (the same way there’s no point playing smash 4 on wii u and smash 4 on 3DS) it’s just so everyone gets to play it.
That is a good point. I was burned out on the series after NSMB, NSMBWii, and about half of NSMB2 before getting bored. I probably should’ve just stopped at DS, but I’m a sucker.
A great example here of why SMW is so great. I first played it 30 years ago and have played it a few times since. I never knew you could go through the lake as shown at around 52 minutes in the video!
NSMBDS will always be my favorite, because of how incredibly good the multiplayer versus was. Personally my favorite multiplayer gamemode in the franchise. Also bonus points for unique bosses and just generally good level design. Also, Luigi Poker is the best.
I don't normally comment just to say that the video was good but man, you really killed it with this one. Awesome series! Extremely entertaining. It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on the Mario Maker games in the future as well.
8 - 5 and 9 - 7 are worse. They're all "easy" normally I can do in 2 or 3 tries with all coins but definitely the hardest. When I first played them it took like 20 lives each lol
The best one is Luigi U. Hands down. But seriously though, individually, the games are awesome, but if you are playing all of them, they might get a little repetitive
I don't really like though how you can't play as Mario in Luigi U. What's with that even in Mario Galaxy Mario does not exist when you play as Luigi which makes no sense at all
a bit overdone is maybe the word. people have debated which mario kart games are the best for a long time and it's partially based on which ones you've played
Wii had the best courses and interesting gameplay and physics (and funky kong) but 8 is more polished, has better graphics and is a more well rounded game, I specially like the battle mode in 8 Deluxe.
There's one thing that you need to consider: each of these is someone's first Mario. The first couple worlds *have* to be basic, because they're the tutorial. That's also why they do one for each console (though 2 shoulda been a Wario Land, or at least had him as a playable character. I mean, it's all about getting filthy rich, ffs!)
Funnily enough, Wario was intended to be in NSMB2 as the reward for collecting 1M coins as an unlockable and playable character. But the developers found out that the time it would take to put him in the game and fix any potential glitches would push it's release date to NSMB U.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii was my first Mario game. I actually found it quite difficult. I couldn’t get past the first world. Mind you I was very young back then, and I always played with the nunchuck, so the button prompts on the screen never lined up with the ones I was supposed to use. But it was a pretty good time over all.
NSLU deffinetly for me. I want to say why but i would just straight up copy what u have already said. So instead i will add one crucial detail i really like about it: For a game that hard, with very little time and precise parkour, the fact that it ends up being so entertaining basicly secures the W for me. ALSO the fact that Nabbit, the character that is IMMUNE to enemies sometimes will feel weak compare to luigi shows how much the wanter this game to be good
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi well, for a couple of reasons 1. They're playable in Multiplayer 2. They got rid of some of the worse ones from 64, like the slot machine 3. They're still fun, even if they were in another game

For Super Luigi U. The developers had impossible moments where the faster timer would make it impossible to finish a level, so they decided to have the timer count actual 100 seconds.

the "2nd player can place blocks" was actually the main reason I liked NSMBU best, though.
