This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Ford Mustang Mach E electric SUV. The Ford Mustang Mach-e has an eye-catching design with sleek and muscular curves. It comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, a manual liftgate and 18” wheels. Our Premium trim test model comes with a panoramic glass roof and 19” wheels, it goes 0-60 in 4.8 seconds with the extended range battery. The Ford Mach-E is available with standard and extended range battery options with either RWD or AWD powered by one or two electric motors. All models have a magnet motor, which is located on the rear axle. The Mach-E AWD also has a secondary electric motor on the front axle to boost performance. Here is a break down of the EV range: Standard Range RWD gets 355km/230 miles of EV range and AWD gets 325 km/210 miles. Extended Range RWD, 475 km/300 miles and AWD 425 km/270 miles of range. AWD is an extra $3500 CAD/$2,700 USD and the Extended Range is $7,000 CAD/$5,000 USD. If you choose the Extended Range RWD you get an extra 120 km EV range and Extended Range AWD an extra 100 km. Is it worth the extra $7000 CAD/$5,000 USD?There is also a difference in horsepower and torque depending on whether you choose Standard or Extended range, RWD or AWD. Standard Range RWD and AWD has 266 horsepower.Extended Range RWD has 290 horsepower and AWD 346 horsepower. RWD gets 317 lb-ft of torque and AWD 428 lb-ft of torque. The Mach E GT Performance Edition gets the most power with 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque. That’s more torque than the Porsche Taycan Turbo at 626 lb-ft of torque. The Mach-E offers front seats that deliver comfort and support along with plenty of legroom. The seats are an ActiveX faux leather material and the steering wheel is wrapped in a soft vinyl. Leather is not available on any trims. Three adults can fit comfortably in the rear seat; it has a flat floor, which offers more space for the middle passenger. There is 29.7 cubic feet behind the rear seat and almost 60 cubic feet of overall cargo space. There is also a front trunk (frunk), which adds another 4.7 cubic feet of space.Ford has used mostly soft materials with very little hard plastic except on the doors and at the bottom of the centre console. I like the use of cloth on the dashboard and doors, it elevates this interior adding elegance to the cabin. The Mach-E offers plenty of tech with a standard 15.5” touchscreen which is intuitive to use, a 10.2” digital driver display and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The best value trim in Canada goes to the Mach-E Premium for $59,495 CAD/$47,600 USD. Some standard features include, a hands-free foot activated power tailgate, a glass roof, heated front seats, driver seat memory, heated steering wheel, a B&O 10-speaker sound system which sounds excellent, 19” wheels, Ford co-pilot 360, Active Park Assist, and a 360 degree camera with split view. If you want AWD, add $3500 CAD/$2,700 USD and the Extended Range $7,000 CAD/$5,000 USD. There are 3 drive modes available Whisper, Engage and Unbridled. Whisper is comfort mode, great for coasting in the city and has some propulsion sound piped in through the audio system. Engage mode is more fun but subtle, the goldilocks of the 3 modes in my opinion. Unbridled is the most exhilarating mode. Ford says, this mode pays homage to the legacy of the Mustang sound but in a unique package designed for an EV. You can turn off the propulsion sound that is piped in if you don’t like it.

Zack took a BIG risk here on the business side of things giving us his honest opinion. I hope Ford looks at this and goes “we have some improvements to make” not “let’s ban/punish motormouth for not sticking to the script”. A lot of respect for taking the risk and staying true to your viewer base, we appreciate it💪🏼
The air vent thing was a bit ridiculous BUT it’s an issue which is exacerbated by all the other annoyances of the car. Door handles that make no sense, suspension, cost, non functional entry exit, expected easy access functions like a trunk button being buried in the infotainment etc.
My only regret with this channel is not finding it sooner!

ANd he has no idea what he is talking about. Like the “regular door handles comment”. EV companies dont use common car handles because of aerodynamics. A car handle can cause a range loss penalty into the 10’s of miles.

He didn't take a risk, trust me half of Ford or more probably bitched about those door handles and are still bitching about it, I am in Michigan, I know my people, trust me a lot of people at Ford definitely didn't want that crap. This is a company that makes trucks for very conservative buyers that don't like change, very few people at Ford were asking for these door handles. I despise the Model 3 and Ys garage door handles, especially how they reverse open and once I mention it to others and they try it too they hate them.

That’s definitely another “copy Tesla” thing. Not sure how it works on the Mach-E but on a Model 3 in Park, the screen shows a huge picture of your car with frunk, trunk, and charge port opening “buttons”. It works well because the screen is so consistent and always on. [If I had to dig through touchscreen menus I would hate it. As it is on the Tesla, it’s not much harder than hunting for a button under the dash next to the wheel.]

Yup. Owner since Feb. Hatch was well known prior to purchase. No problems with doors, air vents, etc. Phone as a key? Problem! (SW update coming fall). People are very interested in the car and ask questions with smiles on their faces because they like what they see! Yes, expensive. Others driven and considered: Model Y, Volvo XC40RC, Kia Niro, and many PHEVs. To get what we wanted in each model they all ended up in the 50s-60s USD. • @eskimosandpresents6481

I respectfully disagree that vehicle price is the main factor keeping more EVs from being sold. Most people I have talked to have a problem with range anxiety due to the sparse number of fast charging stations. If the vehicle is only used puttering around town, that is fine, but on road trips it will not work. In our area of the United States there is no good network of fast chargers. Even the Tesla stations are too spread out. If on a vacation, I do not want to spend my time waiting in line for a charger or waiting hours at a slow charger to 'fill the tank'.
Until the battery technology and charger infrastructure are improved, a RAV-4 Prime seems to be the best of both worlds.
I really enjoy your reviews. Keep up the good work.

Fair enough, thanks for sharing your point of view. I hear from a lot of followers daily that they just don't have the budget for an EV especially if there isn't a rebate available. We have the Chevy Bolt next week and it's priced around $40,000 CAD, more affordable for people. Looking forward to driving that one.

I know the domestic auto manufacturers often offer more discounts but it is still scary to go to their website and see the MSRPs for their Explorer, Bronco Sport, F150, Expedition, etc. I feel over the last 2 years prices have gotten out of control!

Zach is 100% right. Ford should have put proven components that work right from day one and stop with the iffy gimmicks. The doors and trunk need to be able to open each time with no issues, otherwise it's very annoying to deal with. On another review, I saw that the charging port door keeps opening by itself, which again is very frustrating. And that the car only came with one key fob because you are supposed to use your phone as the other. Problem is the app does not work consistently. Ford Motor Company has been around for 118 years and they still can't get it right. Seriously?

Great review! We eagerly awaited this one- you didn’t disappoint! Disclaimer we just put our deposit down on the. Mach-E, just fell in love with the drive. With price… in the US we have the $7500 and in looking at this, the Volvo, and hybrid plug-ins (Audi, BMW, Lexus) this came in a bit cheaper for the Premium trim. Plus we thought if your going EV just do it already and don’t bother with a plug-in hybrid. Side note: when we test drove we found we accidentally put the child lock on the back doors, easy to do as it’s next to the side window adjustments. Also the kick open on the trunk is a setting in the info screen. Not saying this was the reason for the problems, but maybe? Thanks for your candid take!

Aaron, I agree with you, this was an excellent and fair review of the Mach-E. I've gone a step further and I actually purchased the Mach-E two months ago and I have not regretted my decision at all so far. Like Andrea, I don't mind the design of the vents. I've not had any trouble with the rear door handles operating properly when pushing the button. I live in Tennessee, so like you, I get the $7500 tax credit. I live in a mild climate state and park the Mach-E in my garage so I don't anticipate issues with getting into my car in cold weather. The kick open on the truck can sometimes get on my nerves but it operates most of the time. I don't know about you, but I get stopped at least daily from strangers walking up to me asking about this car. When I purchased the Mach-E, I drove 6 hours back home to get the full experience of what it feels like to travel long distances in an EV. I stopped to fast charge twice for 25 minutes and once for 15 minutes and got home with no problem. EVs are not for everyone, including my wife, but I am satisfied so far with the Mach-E and would recommend it to anyone considering an EV. I believe Ford's decision to integrate some hardware buttons along with the tablet display will help with the transition from a gas powered vehicle familiarity to an EV's tech driven environment. It was a deciding factor for me.

I’ve test driven this EV and personally decided to pass on it. Totally agree about the unsettled floaty suspension. I really wanted to like this Mach-E... really wanted to but Ford shows it’s true colours through poor quality, quickly ramping up the price through add-ons and no heat pump!!! No heat pump?!?!?! All Kia/Hyundai EV’s have heat pumps!

EV's are too expensive right now, except the CHEVY BOLT! That's why I bought a 2022 bolt LT1 with a couple of options for $32,400. I've had it for a month now and I'm averaging 4.2 KW per mile in my daily driving which includes highway and freeway at 70 mph. Super impressed with this range and the ride quality and features for price. Plus, there's a history with this car since 2017 and I feel it's going to be very reliable based on everything I've read and reviews I've seen. Yes they had an issue with battery fires on a small percentage of previous models, but they've learned their lessons and I'm extremely confident that that is sorted out completely. I've put a thousand miles on mine at this point and I couldn't be happier. Plus since I live in Washington state my electricity rates are super low so to drive that thousand miles it's cost me less than $30 in electricity. I got my credit to get my level 2 charger installed. That's a big bonus in my opinion for incentive to buy the Bolt. In a performance, features, and price comparison I think it's very difficult to beat what the bolt offers. Looks are very personal. I don't think it's the best looking electric car out there, but it definitely has its own character and I've got many compliments on it. I really think if you currently have two cars or you're thinking of getting a second car and your other car is an internal combustion car, getting electric car as your second car is definitely the way to go.

One precision about government rebates: the non GT Mach-E is eligible for the $8k Quebec rebate because the base price is under the maximum allowable threshold. You can see it on the Ford pricing web tool. Ford had to revise the base option content to qualify for the Quebec rebate otherwise it would have been a complete sales flop in the biggest EV market in Canada.

Lots of mistakes in this video. Contrary to what was stated early in the video, the Model Y, which the Mach-E competes with, doesn't have air suspension. There's also no longer a standard range RWD model Y available as claimed at 15:30. Simply going to their order page would have shown that.
RWD cars aren't an issue in colder climates. AWD may have better re-sale value, but they also cost more to buy / lease. A good set of winter tires for snow/ice will keep the car planted in slippery conditions. Speaking from experience, having owned two RWD vehicles in cold climates. Winter tires don't necessarily add to TCO since you're sharing miles between two sets of tires, and each set should last longer. The e-tron and Mach-E are the only two cars to offer a RWD variant. The Mach-E is the only model to offer a standard range battery. The e-tron and Mach-E can both be configured for much cheaper than a model Y.
The bumper to bumper warranty of the Mach-E is 3 years / 36k miles, the powertrain and safety restraint warranty is 5 years / 60k miles, and the battery warranty is 8 years / 100k miles.
Expensive... I mean... yes, but you're not giving any context on the price. These aren't entry level vehicles. However, versus pure gas cars, fueling and maintenance savings will be substantial over the life of the car. Typically it costs about 1/3rd the price to fuel with electricity at home instead of filling up with gas. So if you typically spend $150 on gas per month, expect your fueling bill to drop by $100 per month. Monthly car payment goes up, monthly cost of fuel goes down. Charging at fast chargers is maybe slightly cheaper than gas. However, you also get the benefit of time and hassle saved by never needing to go to the gas station. You plug in at home and start every day with a full charge. Unlike a gas car, you can actually park in your garage at night and pre-heat the car using energy from the plug in the morning. A gas car has to be parked outside, requires loads of gas to heat up, and do you really want to spend your morning scraping ice off the car?
PHEVs are much closer in terms of fuel and maintenance savings and convenience benefits, but only if they're plugged in every night.. They're also currently cheaper to buy, so I'd definitely still recommend PHEVs over BEVs today. That said, you're not simply buying an electric crossover for $50k (CAD); you're buying one with solid ride quality, fairly premium interior, and fast acceleration.
As to why EVs aren't selling as well as gas cars in the US... a big part of the problem is supply limitations of the batteries. Tesla's constantly sold out. Ford and VW just started mass production. The Bolt EUV is a solid choice... it's super cheap and gets the same benefits as any other BEV. The only downside is that the car doesn't work great for long road trips. Customers could use some of the savings on the car to rent a fuel efficient car for road trips, and then they don't have to worry about long charging stops. An option I think too few people are willing to consider.

While rwd is fine in winter for enthusiasts and people who are somewhat enthusiastic about driving, for vast majority of average drivers it’s simply a no go. When I think of all of my friends/coworkers/family I can’t think of anyone’s spouse who would welcome driving a rwd car in winter unless no other option. It’s doable, but why? This is backed up by these options having mostly disappeared from the Canadian market other than to satisfy a price point and quality for the rebates.

Another great review. Like most folks, I start the video and immediately scroll down to the comments. Got to agree with Zach about the door handles and the center screen, and he makes an excellent point that if Ford had removed these expensive gadgets, they could have got the price of the Mach-e down to VW ID.4 levels. The current price of the Mach-e puts it right at the same price as a Telsa Model Y (even with the $7500 Federal Tax Credit). Sorry Ford, but you can't compete with the Model Y.

Great job bringing real world practicality to this vehicle. I may be confused but it seems as if Zach was not a big fan :). I have actually been watching this vehicle for quite some time and, as a Ford driver, I was really hopeful this was going to be the EV for me. So far there are too many issues for me to be able to dive in. First off this really is not an SUV but a station wagon. That ground clearance is terribly too small. The frunk only opening by pulling the handle twice (who thought that was intuitive), no power frunk open/close, no ventilated seats, no ability to shade the pano glass in blazing heat, the fuel door dents the body if you are not careful and the part about the jumping through front end when battery dies are all things I just don’t accept in this price point.

I'm with Zach. Car manufacturers should listen to what people want and not what the engineers and the marketing department think is good for the buyers. After all people outside of the car companies buy their product in tens or hundreds of thousands of units. I think it's a big middle finger to the buyers. Car companies are like: thanks for buying our vehicles and giving your money but we'll still do the design and engineering the way we want it.

I just found your channel on RUclips and I like it. The two of you freely give your opinions, even when counter to each other, and that makes it interesting, lending to a full picture. I value truth and facts in addition to some emotion and color thrown in for good measure. You guys do that. Now, this Mach E Mustang. I'm a Ford fan and have been for decades. I really like the fact Ford is now moving very assertively into the future with their full array of products. North American leader for sure. This Mach E was engineered to be sporty, not boring. It seems to be the right size, not too small, not too big , with adequate head room and back seat room. I would side with Andrea in terms of liking a sporty, taut, suspension, but not too bouncy. I drive a Fiat 500 X and the ride is just about right, not as jiggly as a Mini Cooper but responsive. The fact you can dial up the sport mode you want with the Mach E is cool. Btw, I think they made a mistake calling it a Mustang, that's their "other" car, and they're different, as they should be. Mustang purists are not pleased. Just Mach E would have been fine. Mustangs have always been two door coupes. The range on this Mach E is great. People want range of over 200 miles and everything electric is leaning that way, even the trucks. I agree with Zack regarding the door buttons. Give me good handles every time. Back trunk space a bit limited? Well, that's why the back seat has more room, I guess. The styling is nice. Zack is right about the small info screen above the steering wheel. I like a good size speedometer and tachometer there, right in front of me, as on my Fiat. The large touch screen in the middle looks unappealing but it's practical and useful, as in the Teslas. Speaking of Teslas, I know the guys that buy them like the really "cool" and futuristic features they can brag about, and to many of these guys, price isn't too much of a factor. Looks like Ford is trying to appeal to this crowd with the Mach E, as opposed to what we see with the much less expensive Chevy Bolt, geared to the more frugal and practical among us. I haven't driven the Mach E yet but really want to. If I buy one, it will probably be when I can find one slightly used and much less expensive. I'm also looking forward to the release of their all electric F 150 based on the Rivian platform. Electric is the future but I wonder about battery life and battery replacement costs. Love your videos. Keep up the banter!

Early models of the all-electric 2021 Mustang Mach-E have a battery issue that may leave owners struggling to start their vehicles despite its being fully charged, according to a technical service bulletin that Ford sent to federal regulators. ... The issue affects vehicles built on or before Feb. 3, Ford said.
So far this Mustang Mach-E has been to the dealership for service to fix issues that the owners have found. Now the Ford dealer has told the owner that some of the problems are now “unfixable.”
    The Details
    Vehicles recalled:
    Roof: 13,544 Mustang Mach-E EVs built between Feb. 24, 2020, and July 18, 2021.
Windshield: 17,692 Ford Mustang Mach-E EVs built between Feb. 24, 2020, and July 18, 2021.
The problem: The panoramic glass roof panel and/or windshield may not have been properly installed, risking leaking and even detachment.
The fix: Dealerships will apply additional urethane adhesive, then reinstall the roof panel or windshield. The repair will be done free of charge.

I think Ford should grow a pair and just go more traditional coz that is the 90% of the market that is still driving ICE vehicles because they are USED TO THE MECHANICAL STUFF. But I know why they are doing all that. To try to sell these things at average 60k. 60k!!!!! Coz people who like fancy shiny things are willing to dish it out. This is where all the margin is, so you can't blame them.

Get a fully loaded gas vehicle or a base model electric for the same price? Also electricity prices here seem to constantly be going up (at least in Ontario) so I think when we finally do end up in a place where electric vehicles are more common that the price to operate them will end up nearly the same as gas.
