    Some more information about the Yaris GRMN from Toyota;
    Turning a high-performance rally-racer into a thoroughbred road-car takes a group of people with unwavering passion. Told from a unique perspective, we follow the journey of the first Yaris GRMN through our factory, from forging its race-bred body right through to the test track where it earns its colours.
    Four kilometres from the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife is a small garage. Here specialist Toyota engineers and drivers from around the world are hard at work fine-tuning the performance and handling of the Yaris GRMN to ensure it’s a winner!
    Inside our Nürburgring garage, teams of engineers painstakingly labour over every detail of the Yaris GRMN. Incorporating the same facelifted body shell as its Yaris WRC brother, they test and retest parts to ensure the Yaris GRMN performs even better than before!
    The Yaris GRMN’s powerful 1.8-litre supercharged engine helps it reach speeds of 230kph, but that’s nothing without the precise control of suspension, brakes and steering. To achieve their performance targets, Yaris GRMN’s engineers live by the mantra: test, learn, improve!

    Also in terms of brand image, its funny because i was in a club and a mutual friend was like oh yeah i drive a BMW, and he asked me what I drive and I said I drive a Toyota and he just sort of laughed at.. Then i Said i drive a Twin Turbo Supra. Lmao and he drives a bmw 1 series. I think Toyota have famous car models. Like the supra is a brand in itself

    • @darrylmac6150

      UgenixK funny how the Supra started as a spec level of the Celica, then went on to become a more famous car than the celica

      Problem is since the early 00s all the way up until they launched the GT86 in 2012, Toyota only made boring stuff. The older generations remember Toyota for their great performance cars, but the kids now only remember the Prius. Toyota has never made a bad sports car, in fact it has made some of the best of all time. They need to fix their image and hopefully the cars they are making now will.

      RumbleBelly awesome!! I currently own the 2ZZGE Celica and i love it. Will probably get a GT4 soon. But my most prized possession is my supra. I treat it like my baby. If Toyota can pull this out of the bag then the 2019 supra should be promising

      Toyota can pull this out mate. Unfortunatly my wallet can't pull out a brand new one :) I loved the older Celicas more than the latest model. Really get a decent GT4. They're reliable as feck. Love the shapes of it. Even though it has 'only' 204 HP stock.

      It is the hot car under new President. GT-86 was started earlier. Then, with the brand new slogan "fun to drive... Again" came underpowered C-HR, but with good handling and better design. Then came Yaris GRMN. I hope that one day Auris will get similar treatment, C-HR gets proper engine and new Supra will get best of GT86 and this Yaris.

    • @SINIS0RSA
      @SINIS0RSA 6 лет назад +10

      Power isn't GT86's biggest problem. The lack of torque is the main problem. 200hp 1.6 Turbo would be much faster and less frustrating in day to day driving.

    • @sethjones2779
      @sethjones2779 6 лет назад +1

      Gt86 is just supposed to be fun, hence the skinny wheels. You can have as much fun with a lightweight low powered on tight twisty roads as you can with 400hp+ car

    • @michaelduong3852
      @michaelduong3852 6 лет назад +4

      TRD is, but they are releasing a new sport division of cars call Gazoo racing or GR which is what the new toyota supra, future 86 and this yaris is going to be named. They specialize in track cars for toyota and are now also helping toyota develop cars. TRD is just toyota, but now they have help from a race engineering team.

    • @rasmust4921
      @rasmust4921 6 лет назад +1

      Yes me too. It's weird why it's not TRD when they do TRD trucks and pickups in 2017 and 2018 but not the sportcars or this one. there is a GT86 TRD but yea who knows.

    • @Tom5524YouTube
      @Tom5524YouTube 6 лет назад +1

      The GT86 TRD was a massive flop, looks nice but not much difference at all to a standart gt86. Toyota should have just told them to go nuts but instead seemed to limit what they could do.

However don’t forget Toyota used to have a hot hatch in the form of the glanza. 1.3 turbocharged, 133 bhp standard in a car that weighed like 900kg. Nice to see this side of Toyota returning

    I wish it wasn't limited, and I wish they would have brought this to the North American market. We already see these in base trim EVERYWHERE! They are massively popular with young kids as a first car, and even in the modified scene. I've seen them with simple swaps like a 1.8 Corolla swap. I've seen them with the XRS Corolla/Matrix Swap which is between 170-190 hp depending on the Ecu and comes with a close ratio 6 speed manual, and can easily rev to 9000 rpm as long as you don't go over that, or your oil pump will explode. But they're quite light, and until now, the Corolla wasn't available in Hatchback in the US Market, so if you wanted a Toyota hatch back to modify and swap, you got a Yaris. So I've seen tons, and know a mate who modified a Yaris and that damn thing was a blast to drive with just 275 hp. It felt properly fast with less than 300 hp and it just had a similar swap to what the GRMN comes with. It had a 2ZZ-GE with a Lotus Supercharger and it was an absolute wicked car, and sounded the part as well.

    Toyota has made lots of great cars, but it's been a while since they did. Good to see they're back, but i do agree.. NO sane reason to limit the production. Seems like a fun car, and eventhough i don't care much for the current Toyota design and the Yaris look, i think i'd have one over most if not all of the competitors given the chance. While i prefer a N/A engine, a supercharger is a great alternative to N/A.

    Well actually a lot of people are supercharging tiny engines. VW for example. All their tiny gasoline engines are both supercharged AND turbocharged to eliminate lag in the best possible way.

    I really like the look of this Yaris. Unlike the new horrid face of our South East Asia market one's.

    In a way it is like the Toyota Corolla t sport from 2005. That has around 200bhp. And just like that has a supercharger and turbocharger. So in a way it’s like that, especially because that was limited production of 200 car worldwide

    Amazing video but you’re totally wrong about Toyota as a badge! They have absolutely amazing motorsport pedigree and back catalogue of cars.

    Maybe there aren't enough buyers for a car like this which is why its not a mass market car. I mean that's usually how it is with most sporty vehicles.

    Also Toyota knows about making little hot hatches, supercars, gt cars etc. They might boring safe cars for the elderly now but back in day they made some of the most iconic jdm cars cough cough the supra!
