It's refreshing to watch a nice proper review by a proper car journalist having earlier watched a poor review of the same car by a well known RUclipsr. Whilst I appreciate what a lot of car you tubers have managed to achieve by themselves, I think proper car journalists these days are very underappreciated nowadays and it's so easy to get blindsided by the quantity out there which lack quality. Great job!
Completely agree. I think I know who you're referring to… has he put out about 20 videos since the start of the year, all of which are pretty boring with no value? I find RUclipsrs have a tendency to dramatise and also be extra super mega positive about everything. I'm a very positive person in my life but when you describe every car as great and perfect and without flaw, you really don't offer an insight to the car. THIS is where proper car journalists shine. People like Steve Sutfcliffe, Chris Harris, Jethro Bovingdon, etc describe a car in a way that really makes you visualise exactly how it drives.
Auto journalists and RUclipsrs are not the same. Most of those so-called 'reviewers' are just people with fancy cameras and memorization of car data who proceed to call out the numbers and then call it a day. They lack any critical analysis that any old school car journalists possess.
Great car! Even though everyone "complains" about the pricetag, it was still completely sold out in a very short time! We ordered one in the Netherlands, can't wait to receive it in February/March!
Ge T Well, after all, it's a performance version of a yaris, it would be better for them to sell it like the fiesta st, a similar car to the yaris grmn.
+Pedro Menezes Totally agreed. What a lost opportunity. Its the same with the GT86. Europe call it the GT86 but It use to be called the Scion FR-S in america and its called the 86 everywhere else.
TRD is runned by Toyota Technocraft, a completely different company, in fact this Yaris is developed by TMG, Toyota Motorsport GmBH, which is located in Cologne Germany rather than Aichi, Japan, and responsible for all of the Toyota WRC cars and WEC cars ever made.
I have had a mint 2002 (made in Japan, not France) Yaris 1.3 SR 2 door for 7 years and I love it to bits. Yeah, a bit cheap on the inside but the drive train, suspension, brakes and body are still excellent at 110k miles and the reliability is outstanding. I'd buy a Yaris GReMliN in a heart beat if I had the cash.
I'm a fan of the Peugeot-esque decal design, and I'm definitely a fan of supercharging! Really wish this wasn't a limited run and we could get it in the US!
I am japanese so I am allowed to say this - Toyota have one of the worst ways of marketing their cars. Why did they use the GRMN brand name when they have the TRD brand - their performance arm. It stands for Toyota Racing Development and doesn't sound so cringy to what the GRMN stands for. Same goes for the GT86 - its a lovely car, but why was it called the Scion FR-S in the US and why is it called GT86 in european markets and the 86 everywhere else? So stupid.

@@coopsnz1 A golf GTI is a proper car, which you could use for a weekend with your family. This, is just a toy. At that point just get the UP GTI, costs way less, still fun.
This thing with the weight power ratio advantage would take most "hot hatches" in the market but it looks so garish and uninspiring. Looks like a Mugen Honda Fit... what is the point? Looks more proper resigned to commuters for librarians and book club members than someone who wants a performance car.
Just checked the price for a Fiesta st in the UK figuring I'd be back laughing at the people who were saying it's too expensive, but the ST is only around 17000. That is a bit of a steep price Toyota, basically in between the price range of an ST and a type r isn't really where this needs to be.
Robert Lawson The Fiesta ST sells in hundreds of thousands of units and this Yaris GRmn is on a limited run of 600 units to test how the market in EU reacts to a hot hatch from Toyota
Youre viewing this as a yaris hot hatch, it's not a rival to the fiesta, that's why they only made 80 for the UK. You have to weigh up the total of the parts. The fiesta is just a fast fiesta. If you take this as a Lotus Yaris or a Yaris GT3 youd be closer to the mark. The engineering is superb, top quality Sachs Suspension, lotus elise engine, forged bbs alloys, gt86 steering wheel, custom seats from the LFA seat manufacturer, 4 pot caliper with grooved discs ,amazing sounding exhaust. You're kidding, right? First, petrol isn't rising to insane heights everywhere. Second, electric cars are not exactly inexpensive to purchase or operate - nor to dispose of. The reality is that the internal-combustion engine and cars powered-by-it will be around for many years to come.
So many badges, why cant they just badge it as TRD? Its just this badges are getting more and more. Soon whole back boot is fullof badge, and charge you more.
Toyota couldn't make it for $15k. A basic yaris would be about $15k. That would be totally unrealistic, it's got a lotus elise engine which lotus charges toyota to do, forged BBS alloys at $1500 each, 4 pot caliper brakes, a custom exhaust system and seats made by the company that made the LFAs seats.
I was expecting something more radical when Gazoo Racing said they will make road car based on WRC car.this is nothing like WRC car,why they even use Gazoo Racing in name and say they use WRC technology if car is just Yaris whit bit more power.they should have made it at least AWD if they say its based in WRC car, wider body would be nice too, this is just boring

They didnt have the money to modify the body. If you look at the focus RS even ford stopped putting crazy arches on the focus. It's the same body. If you drove it youd appreciate it more. You're just judging from an armchair, which is limiting to say the least.

Toyota 86 grmn already exists. And its... Yep sold out 100 out of 100
Ritvik S 100 cars... Not impressive.
No. It'll still have the stock engine with no extra power. Because they can. xD
Never fully committed to a hot hatch? What about the corolla Tsport? 189bhp from a 1.8na.. Surely for 2002/06 that was classed as a hot hatch?
And the supercharged TTE Compressor version of it had 215 hp, what a beast

GRMN stands for Gazoo Racing which is Toyota's Official Racing Team, in WEC for example or Rally, they made it, not really "Toyota" that demanded.
