20 minutes of hard racing I suspect will set a few of them on fire. Brakes are hardly adequate in most of these 'hot hatches'. Fake vents leading the way of these.
People don't realise how important tyres are, it's the easiest/cheapest mod to do on a car. Just put michelins on your car and depending on what you had before, it can make a huge difference.
Sorry but the Fiesta ST is in it's own class in terms of bang for your buck in this comparison. I can only speak for prices here in Austria but the base Fiesta ST (with "Performance Package") comes in at 25k €, a base Cooper S at 28k € and the Yaris GRMN at a whopping 33k €!!! (and that is the cheapest "used" example I could find on the market).
Putting the Mini on decent tires instead of the crappy runflats makes an enormous difference. Also the S is not just a 'trim level' - it has an entirely different motor than the "justa" non-S, which is a 3 cylinder.

It can run better times than 19.8 sec. let's face it these comparison test are aimed at making the Fiesta look great which I wouldn't take it even if it was free. I love the GRMN too, but I'm not sure where you see it "out perform" the Fiesta. Keep in mind the Yaris is some 200lbs lighter than the ST and has more horsepower (though a good deal less torque).

Also at the end saying the Mini was miles behind but there was a 2.1s gap 1st to 2nd and only a 1.1s gap 2nd to third. Considering the difference in tyre grip and rolling mass that's still a better result than the Yaris on sporty stuff.
On a small track the time difference is fairly big. Thing is the mini is from 2014 when the fiesta and yaris are almost brand new models so that makes a big difference aswell. They're all great cars but id still have the mini due to the b48, with just ecu remap it makes up to 300hp completely stock which would rival bigger fish like the a35 and s3 rather than these warm hatches.
I got a mk8 fiesta st and it's superb. The low down torque and pace it has is fantastic, such a smooth free revving engine too. I'm loving it.. absolute bargain in this day and age. Mountune now has a new remap out as well for less than £500. The car is going to be even quicker. Fast Ford's are back come on!!!!!
No it was a test of cars as they are delivered from the factory. There are a lot of variables with tires being a big one, but each was developed with that tire in mind.

Okay. From now on, this needs to be a thing. Three guys racing on a track and talking to each other and us about the dynamics and feel of the cars. This was surprisingly fun and I was only listening to it.
I do like the GRMN, fair to say they are pretty rare; and I suppose it is nice to have the exclusivity. The mk7 & 8 ST have proven to be popular and good drivers too. I did really like my mk7 ST in the 4 years that I owned it. The MINI cooper S has just turned into a lardy and chunky BMW.
Love the Fiesta ST, I down graded to this from a Golf GTI because out of the box its great on Track, and it put all of it power down, and that is with a remap, which the GTI never did. But why I really went for the ST, was because of it's lightness.
I came out of a 2015 Mini JCW for a new mk8 ST ! Lost 34 hp but gained better handling and a better overall driving experience! Don’t even feel the need like loads of owners do to remap it, it’s enough poke and fun in stock 👍
JD depends on what type of tire you fit to the three. Some tires would benefit one car over another due to the type of characteristics the engineers imbued each car with. So that test would be an endless pursuit of finding the right tire for the right car. Better to just test what the manufacturer designed the car for.
Only thing I could see was the sawing action in the yaris, Is that driving style or car unpredictability? BTW one month today till I get my ST3 with performance pack.

Hey Autocar! I have just watched your Lotus Emira vs Porsche Cayman review, and it blew my mind how profession your channel is! It would be fantastic if you could review the Ford Fiesta ST against the Toyota GR86. On paper they may be a completely different sportcar, but the fact that they are both being crowned as the best entry level sportcar is very intriguing for me, in fact I am having a really tough time deciding on which one I should but! I am sure this would make a very fascinating comparison, and I am begging you guys make it happen.

It's about the price bracket. JCW cost way more and would be compared accordingly with cars with the same price bracket in which it will lose out. JCW is overpriced.

No the Yaris is £6000 more than the fiesta with the best tyres for that car I don’t think Toyota would deliberately fit inferior tyres to there top spec high performance vehicle. The Gazoo racing is their performance arm much like M is to bmw or AMG is to merc or RS to ford so this is their top spec performance model Designed and tuned at the Nurburgring with a Lotus tuned engine. And still comprehensive beaten by a shopping trolley not even a RS model. Lucky they don’t make an RS fiesta or it would have been 4 seconds faster...

So this was a combo of a tyre review, the Fiesta ST’s Rev limiter, how crap the Mini is and yet again, how the Fiesta ST is going to decimate all.
test drove a base Mini 3 cyl before buying the wagon. Had a blast
