The "modern" Dark Spyro is the better design, but I think Legends and the Skylanders game use the concept better as a dark half to Spyro rather than a totally separate character. There are better ways to make a dark rival to Spyro than literally using a dark version of himself IMO.
Now hold on, I think having Dark Spyro as a separate character is not a bad idea. Plus what if Dark Sonic was a separate character in sonic the hedgehog? Also Dark Spyro is Spyro's Arch-Enemy in Skylanders Academy
If dark spyro ever comes back in a main game, I personally believe he will either be an alt dimension spyro or his own darkness made manifest by an outward source within his world. Personally, I think him being a part of spyros own being and having to struggle with that could be interesting. You are own worst enemy is yourself after all. Being both a transformation and a separate entity would be interesting as well.

@@ritanman9578 yep mind and soul. Dark spyro would essentially be the manifestation of all his repressed negative thoughts and the dark reflection within his soul.

Fun fact: the colour scheme that Classic and Skylanders Spyro use for dark spyro came from the Eternal Night GBA version

I love Dark Spyro!
I find intrigant how even the purest of heroes can develop or become darkness. It this case Spyro.
I really like how they maintained this concept over the years, and with that how played with it in each version.
While in Legend, Skylanders and Academy Spyro was thrown into a powerful source of dark magic that turned him into Dark, in OTR I like how they made him a separate dragon from Spyro.
The info on the game straightly points that Dark Spyro is from another dimension. Maybe:
-Spyro at some point was turned into Dark Spyro until somehow he was freed from the darkness but his dark side manifested and got his own body. With pure evil intentions he started to cause havok and disaster until deciding to conquer universes, allying with past Spyro enemies.
-Someone (a new villain or Gnasty Gnorc) created a Dark version of Spyro with their magic to use his aid to stop Spyro once and for all.
-In an alternate universe, Spyro was always evil and in his plans of conquest, he decides to invade other dimensions, and recruiting past Spyro enemies from that dimension to help him.
-Spyro turned evil, he lost, his dark side now has full control of him, brought back his old enemies and plans to bring darkness to his other dimension counterparts.
I firmly believe that, Dark Spyro may be connected to the future of Spyro Reignited, maybe in Spyro 4?

Videos like this do really make me wonder if dark Spyro will be his own seperate character in the upcoming “4th” Spyro game. Only time will tell.
I like all this stuff but I wish Dark Spyro had only been a Legend of Spyro thing. It gave that series a foreboding atmosphere that nothing since has respected with narrative weight.
this is why i dont like Skylanders Academy and this newer version od Spyro universe, because they turned Dark Spyro to an Emo Peter Parker like archrival to Spyro. Thats no longer Dark Spyro, because Dark Spyro in both Legends and Skylanders game Lore was suppouse to be a violent side (or darkside if you will) to Spyro that he can somewhat control but slowly get addicted to, which was the same reason why Malefor turned from a kindfull hero to a genocidal tyrant. He was suppouse to be like Guts berserk armor from Berserk or like Ryus devilman form from devilman manga or anime. Trying to retcon it for newer Spyro universe just completely destroys the personality or the purpose of the character, which was the same thing they did with characters like Cynder, Eon and Malefor in Netflix show and nowdays. I much more perfer Dark Spyro as he was, a darkside to Spyros entier character that he can use when he wants to. If its necessary to stop a powerfull threat. Still a great video Lore of the dragon👍

Dark spyro has to much potential , i dont like that they used him like a EDGY version of Spyro in resent games , that's make him just a copy of shadow the hedgehog or venom .

They could make him a Spyro from a dark world/future where he failed to save the day and went insane, now working for the evil that caused his pain
Not a theory, but a cool idea for Spyro 4: At the beginning of the game, Dark Spyro is revealed as working with Gnasty and a mystery third villain. Dark Spyro is the first boss, and during the boss fight he changes form multiple times. After you defeat him, it's revealed that it's Cynder who's been turned into that form by Malefor, who is the mystery third villain.
The thing is... what this all means by itself?
The appearance of Dark Spyro (Or Darkro if I must shorten stuff up), usually means that greater dark powers are usually at work, in both of the instances we know the most, TLoS and Skylanders Academy he was brought in by some stronger and darker power (TLoS being the same Dark Aether Malefor commands, and Academy being Strykore the cause of his appearance), now not to take away any credit Gnasty would have had on previous installments but I doubt he would have just have made Dark Spyro appear like nothing, which would mean that he had probably had had some help from someone else...
Now it could possibly mean that any known (or unknown) mastermind villain could be behind this, and since we are talking about dimensional travel this certainly broadens the list of possible candidates, as for those who could be known, either it could have been the Sorcerer or Malefor (Any of the other 2, if you know what I mean by that). Their purposes? Unknown probably conquest, probably some great cleansing, probably neither and they are all just working for someone else...
One thing's certain... this also means that the way into the multiverse has been opened... and certainly nothing good can come from that...

Legend Dark Spyro is far more ruthless, I mean have you seen his lightning speed melee attack? He's like a rabid puppy but far worse, he'll literally dash up to you and attack your entire front body and the Dark Aether/Nether Element makes it worse, you're like being bombarded with physical attacks and intense radiation all at once.

Honestly,I think chances are high that the crash on the run version is hinting at a future game where dark spyro is introduced to the classic dimension, if I am right,that could also mean that cynder also might make an appearance, and if I a right,that would mean that likely malefore could be down the line,though him and cynder would probably be a long ways off,and may be put in another spin off
When I first saw Dark Spyro in Eternal night I was just mind blown it's like I met a new character and immediately fell in love (not in that way) he legit became my new favorite character sure he had a short screen time but it was epic but now that I see him in skylanders and the crash game I feel like they toned him down a bit 😓 cause in Los he went full blown genocide on the apes at least in the Ds and gba version in the console version he straight out murdered Gaul and freed Malefor which months ago I had a theory that maybe Spyro was possessed by a spirit who served the dark master but that's just my game theory lol

does anybody know if Dark Spyro appear in the Skylanders Comics? that's the only thing LotD didn't mention
