Both the Chronicler and Malefor are right. There were many other purple dragons before them but each one of them ended up destroying the word and creating it anew. In the current iteration of the word two purple dragons were born only because Malefor failed. So yeah, there were many more purple dragons, but in different words (which makes Malefor's statement true). However, at the same time, there were only two purple dragons in the history of the word in which the story takes place (which makes Chronicler's statement true).

It would be interesting if that were actually confirmed in a game ngl

Not that I can recall, the reason this whole thing is a bit of a mess to figure out is because neither account was confirmed by anyone, it was just kinda left on a cliffhanger from what I know. So, you've got what Malefor said, but when put together with what was said by the Chornicler, neither match up so they're is nothing exactly saying which one is the truth

@@loreofthedragon Yeah, things are very confusing, especially with the whole lore-dump that we suddenly get at the end of the game. I wish there were novelizations of the games. They could really flesh things out.

There are some chances that this Purple Dragon Prophecy may return in the Reignited timeline :
    1) I saw many fans asking for Cynder return for a future game following the Reignited Trilogy, while she may not necessarily have connections with the Purple Dragons, I think her appearence would drastically increase the chances for mentioning this Prophecy in a Reignited Sequel.
    2) Probably not the majority of the fans, but some of them (including myself, actually) were disappointed that "Spyro : Shadow Legacy" ended as a Cliffhanger, even though, in my opinion, there is a 0,0001% chance that a real Sequel to "Spyro : Shadow Legacy" would come soon, the developers could connect the Reignited timeline with the prophecy in Shadow Legacy, maybe by claiming that all the Timelines actually happened but on a different Dimension, just like Toys For Bob claimed for "Crash Bandicoot 4 : It's About Time".
    3) If, for some reason, the next Reignited game doesn't have the Purple Dragon Prophecy, fans may ask more for that meaning that, eventually, be even just mentioned in some way in a game following the Sequel of the Reignited timeline.
As a side note, I think that, in theory, we may know how a Sequel of "Spyro : Shadow Legacy" would have ended, the plot of "Spyro : A Hero's Tail" is similar, for some aspects, to the plot of "The Legend of Spyro : The Eternal Night", just like the plot of "Spyro : Shadow Legacy" is similar, for some aspects, to the plot of "The Legend of Spyro : A New Beginning" , so, I think that the Sequel of Shadow Legacy, would have had a plot similar to "The Legend of Spyro : Dawn of the Dragon".
However, I don't know if, somehow, someone would be able to guess the exact plot that that game would have had, I guess I can't help but think that, again, this is left to another Speculation, unless the developers for the future Spyro Games in the Reignited Timeline give us hints.
I don't know if you, or someone else, will find this entertaining but I mention it just in case someone wants a kind of Hardcore Challenge, I've had two Challenges for "Spyro : Shadow Legacy" that makes the game much more harder:
Low Level Challenge : The Player must defeat only Enemies tied to the Progression of the Story and must ignore the rest them.
This may seem simple at first, however, Players have to deal with the fact that either they have to execute Technical Movements for avoiding the attacks or quickly Charge for avoid to be hit more than once by Enemies who attacks can't be avoided.
This also means that Players may learn only a certain number of Techniques and Moves from the Elders, and they have to choose carefully what they exactly need for Progress.
Unfortunately, I lost my save while I was testing this Challenge, but, I think it's possible to do, however, it requires lots of Patience, my tip is to try to keep Healing Items at their max limit and use them only if they are extremely necessary to use for progress, try to isolate the Enemies from one another and defeating them one by one may be necessary as well.
1 HP Challenge : The Player must reduce Spyro's Health to 1 and then he/she can progress through the Story, if something (for example, Story Events) heals Spyro, the Player must bring back Spyro's Health to 1 again as soon as possible.
Considering that Enemies attacks very fast Spyro, my tip is to try to isolate them and defeat them one by one.
The Player can't use Healing Items, but the rest of the Items is available to use.
There is no limit for how much Spyro can go up in Levels and Techniques.
I haven't tested this Challenge so far, I don't know if it's possible to do, considering that there are Attacks and Magic Attacks that hit Spyro before the Player can even react, I think that this Challenge is Luck Based, too.
I hope I didn't go too much off topic with these Challenges. but I thought to wrote them just in case someone is bored, mostly due to the situation we all are be dealing with at the moment, and he/she may try to have fun/pass the time with these.
As always, I congratulate you, for the amount of Details you always manage to bring to the light, I hope you'll get rewarded in some way someday. have a Safe and Nice day.

      SPECTRE
I also would love to see that especially in The Spyro Reignited Trilogy Series and Spyro 4 and I would love to see Flame and Ember return too but with much bigger roles than the ones they got especially Dark Spyro in Reignited Trilogy Spyro style with a much bigger role too as well.
And here's what I think may have happened in Spyro's past in The Dragon Realms when he was first born he wasn't instantly accepted by the other dragons and was bullied because he was thought of as a freak because he wasn't like the other dragons and the only dragon who is purple and Flame and Ember were his childhood friends who accepted him as a friend but no one else did just because Spyro is a rare purple dragon doesn't mean everyone in The Dragon Realms is going to like him.

I say the cronicler was wrong only because there was some calamity "the destroyer" destroyed the earliest history of there realm.

I'd say the Chronicler was right between the two stories. As a general rule, the ideal way to take any lore Malefor drops is "don't listen to anything he says." Not listening to Malefor is proven to reduce one's odds of being bamboozled significantly, increase lifespan, prevent succumbing to the darkness, and it's good for the skin.

It's midnight and I feel asleep before I could watch it.
Purple dragons! One of (if not), the most interesing topic regarding the Spyro franchise.
Legend really did something with the whole legend and prophecy thing along making the villain a purple dragon too to fit that same legend/prophecy.
I feel that is very special because tells a lot regarding the story of the realms, unless in TLOS and just slightly in Skylanders while OG/Reignited didn't hint anything about it.
Maybe they could bring this purple dragon's prophecy factor in the Reignited timeline, as it could expand a lot more the story behind Spyro and his origins, as we know he is an orphan from an unknown place.
Along explain some things like the realms around the world, why he has such abilities in certain moments, and his scales being rare (but not so rare) among the dragons.
Great video! Really informative and so exciting about this topic!
Maybe we can see the legend taking place in the Reignited line, along some kind of story behind it.

Reignited trilogy messed up on the Rhinocs big time! In the original version, those with the shields have fireproof armor and shields! So you have to charge them to defeat them, and flame the giant Rhinocs. I know because I have the original PS1 game of Spyro Year of the Dragon

There's only two purple dragons in the storyline of original series of Spyro the Dragon franchise like.... a main protagonist of the original series of Spyro the Dragon series: Spyro the Dragon himself is the only good hearted purple dragon of the Dragon Realms,... and the villain of Spyro original series and a main antagonist of Spyro: Shadow Legacy: the Sorcerer is the only evil hearted purple dragon from the Shadow Reams.
And there's only two purple dragons in the storyline of The Legend of Spyro trilogy the reboot series of Spyro the Dragon franchise like.... a main protagonist of The Legend of Spyro Trilogy: Spyro the Dragon himself is the second legendary purple dragon the one who brings a new age: an age of peace to the world for good,... and the primary antagonist of The Legend of Spyro trilogy and the main antagonist of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon: Malefor the Dark Master is the first legendary purple dragon the one who brings the destructions to the world for a new age for evil. 🙂

I don't think that there is a contradiction. Every ten generations a purple dragon will be born who will move the world in a new direction. There may have been multiple purple dragons but they didn't master all the elements and usher in a new era. All they got was a purple coloration and a higher aptitude for magic. I also always took that the original trilogy, the legend trilogy, and the Skylanders games taking place in the same timeline just at different points with a minimum of ten dragon generations between them. The ending of the Legends trilogy does show a world which resembles Skylands a bit and the lore between the Legends trilogy and Skylanders are awfully similar in places.

Awesome video! I'm a little late, but wanted to mention:
[SPOILERS ahead for The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon]
Maybe I missed it, but I found it interesting that you didn't mention the purple dragon spirits at the end of Dawn of the Dragon. Maybe they were just a manifestation of something else, but I always interpreted them as spirits of past purple dragons. Especially since spirit dragons can wander among the living, as I thought was implicated by the Chronicler and Ignitus in the epilogue of DotD. With those purple dragon spirits in mind, if they truly are manifestations of real purple dragons that came before, Malefor's statement is already proven more correct than the Chronicler's. While that still feels iffy, as the Chronicler is supposed to be a figure of guidance and we should trust his knowledge, I think two possibilities for this are at play: 1) He truly didn't have any records of more purple dragons and was just wrong. I can possibly believe this because he also couldn't find Spyro and Cynder in the epilogue even though they appeared to be alive (though, that's up to interpretation I guess?), or 2) Much like Marta Tarasiuk said in their comment, perhaps there were only two purple dragons within the timeline/world/universe we see play out, and it's even possible on top of that, the cycle of the purple dragon legend has been in a loop of destruction... Part of me now also wonders if part of Malefor's destruction over his lifespan was also partly erasing historical documents. 🤣
There are a lot of seemingly loose ends at the end of Dawn of the Dragon, which is both interesting and feels like a partial cliffhanger, with the story being over but there still being plotholes left. Sorry for getting so carried away, I love The Legend of Spyro, and the thought of its prophecy being connected in all three Spyro's universes/the Spyro multiverse and possibly even coming back in whatever Spyro 4 looks like or any of his future games excites me greatly! 😁 Seeing another comment in this comment section about how Crash 4 didn't completely disregard past Crash games but moved onto something new gave me even more hope for Spyro's future, and I hope something similar is done with our good purple boy. 😃 I was scared at first that The Legend series would be forgotten, since Spyro is returning to his roots. I became a Spyro fan via The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning pretty much being my first real influential game ever (played it at 6, I'm 20 now). I'm super excited to see how everything ties together now that I feel more reassured that us Legend fans (and the Skylanders fans as well) won't be completely brushed off. Toys For Bob (and Vicarious Visions) is fantastic. 🥰 And so are you, Lore of the Dragon! Thank you for your quality content! Now, that I found you, I've been binging your Spyro lore vids. Can't wait to see more of these! 🧡💜😌

An idea could be that the origional trilogy could be a different age and could then make all the games cannon to each other, i prefer the story of the tlos games but couldn't really get into the origional but a lot of people prefer that and thats great and they got reignited trilogy, I think just having it be an earlier or post age to Tlos would be a cool concept

I woild personally take croniclers statement as main canon...
Since, well, dotd has been made by totally different people, and i am sure originally in ten the previous devs did not intend that.
So, yeah, if theres lore stuff in dotd thats contradicting i tend to leam towards the furst two legends games fir more accurate informations.
