    The Guardians.
Maybe the most notorious group of dragons with a big role and almost unknown background in the Spyro lore.
I always conceptualized the guardians as leaders, protectors and generals, mostly for their participation in the war being very prominent. And that Jared said they are like monks is also an interesting take, as monks are shows as people devoted to a religion or entity (in this case the purple dragon), or like oriental monks dedicated to train all their life in combat in name of an entity.
From all, Ignitus was the one with most development and screentime, and still is fascinating what roles he and the other guardians held.
That they went from the dragon elders (main rulers) to protectors of the eggs to lead squad batallions shows how much they have to deal with their title and the consequences of the war.
The Dragon Knights' part also sounds really interesting, as is the opposite of the guardians and they lead the offensive, like the guardians' right paw.
Also, I find curious how there is only one guardian for each element, how only one with much training and knowledge is worthy of the title.
It is also curious about the way the hatchlings are taken before they born, as what is/are the main factor(s) for the dragon elders to keep an egg, raise and train them.
Also, it is really fascinating how each guardian have a mission respect to their element, like Volteer that with another electric dragons gave energy to the Concurrent Skies.
It makes me wish to have seen more of them in the games, more of their story, role and participation.
    Great video!
I love when you cover The Legend of Spyro stuff like this! It gives a new air of mystery and fascination to explore even more.

That makes them look more and more like the Jedi from the Star Wars

I love the hell out of the guardians. They have such a minor role in the games despite being so important in the lore. Probably why I like them so much. The TLoS games I kept me wanting more. Volteer is my favorite. Kinda hated that Ignitus got so much development for himself and the others were just kinda there but they're all still cool :3
They're so fascinating and unique to me and I love the "old mentor" trope. This video was excellent man. Love how much work ya out into this. I hope the guardians get a new chance to shine Ina future game.

Another thing the term 'Guardians' might refer to is the secret knowledge that the Dark Master 's spirit is imprisoned in Convexity. It likely also refers to all the cultural and elemental knowledge they protect from being forgotten.
Ignitus is also a Seer, who has the power to sense visions through the Pool of Visions.

I love the Guardians, and while I was happy with Ignitus having an important role to Spyro and being a great leader and mentor, I also would've loved to see the other Guardians get more screen time. Hearing Jared Pullen's ideas for them shows how much potential and creativity went into their roles and place within their world. I'd love to see what else they contribute in the world's order as well as their more personal struggles in the war. More lore on them is just fascinating and feels ancient in such a cool and mysterious way. Thank you for sharing this lore, these concepts, and speculations with us, Lore of the Dragon! 😊

I think the Guardians in Legend of Spyro took a lot of inspiration from the Jedi Order in Star Wars cause I can see a lot of similarities between the two. Both orders are responsible to train the young for the future generations and maintain peace in the world and are both spiritual leaders, monks and warriors, plus both have a main Temple. And Malefor himself has a lot of similarities to Anakin Skywalker, as both of them were taken by their respective orders, trained and believed to be part of a prophecy that would change the world as they know it, but they ultimately end up betraying the same order that raised them and become the main villains later on.
(Btw I love your videos, but please can you keep the options for automatic subtitles on? As a non-native english speaker sometimes I have trouble to understand some words you're saying. Just a thumbs up as I love your channel!)

Honestly I’d never really looked into the subtitles and didn’t pay them much attention, but I’ll get to that as soon as possible, sorry for the inconvenience

    Question.
Could you do a video on if the reignited timeline actually have dragons and wyverns be different species.
With different cultures and histories to one another.
You could also talk about Vathek, he would be excited to see him return.
Maybe as the wyvern general for Malefor’s army if Toys for Bob decides to bring both villains back into the new timeline.

I’ve been really looking to this sort of video for quite some time now. The guardians were such an interesting aspect of the legend trilogy but terrador seemed to be the only other important dragon besides ignites. Do you agree too LOTD? Cyril and volteer just don’t do anything!

One of the only inconsistent things I've seen in the lore (at least when you compare it to Jared Pullen, where we get half of the lore) is how the Guardians work and their elements. According to him, there are Water Dragons, but if that's the case, then where is the Water Guardian, and why did Spyro not need to master it if he needed all elements to access the Aether?

    • @ThePsychicClarinetist
      @ThePsychicClarinetist 3 года назад +1

Well, I know that on the game development time of it, they didn't have the time to elaborate further. In the speculation and lore/plot part of it, it could be possible that the Water Guardian - if there was one - ended up lost, captured, or killed somewhere in the plot. If we also look at wind as an element, there should be a Wind Guardian too, especially since Cynder was originally a wind dragon. Why would a fire, electricity, ice, and earth guardian be training a wind dragon? Especially with the info that the egg color is an indicator of their element, that would be more than enough proof that Cynder - and other non-fire, non-electric, non-ice, and non-earth dragons exist as eggs and wouldn't benefit from the training of the Guardians as much as those that have the same elements. Either the war is a part of it and the other guardians were lost/killed long before and Ignitus withheld that info from Spyro, or it's possible there were other elemental guardians elsewhere, such as in Warfang or another location where the dragons would be sent if they hatched safely and stayed protected from the dark armies.
As for the second question, it's possible that Spyro - or purple dragons in general - don't truly have to learn all elements before learning Aether. Maybe they only need to learn some elements. Like a "jack of all trades" thing that can be individualized to each purple dragon and their efforts in learning the different elements. Either that, or Spyro got some plot convenience/strength/a faster (and possibly unnatural) learning curve from the ancestors to help him in this great time of need where their species faces extinction and before the evil purple dragon (the Dark Master/Malefor) tries to do even more damage. He even technically learned (or at least used) Aether before being able to use his Time ability in The Eternal Night. It's also possibly that Spyro already has access to all of the elements, and just doesn't know how to use most yet because the four he did pick up on his own were most convenient for his journey as he had four capable guardians with the same elements to train him with his new-found abilities. He could even just prefer those four elements and we were never shown that he knows any other elements because they were less important to the plot or mechanics of the game. Based on that last part, one could ask: So why is Cynder the one we have to rely on for other abilities in Dawn of the Dragon? As for Cynder's elements, since she was corrupted more over time, she has at least 3 elements that Spyro probably doesn't. And as for Wind, even if Spyro does know wind, Cynder would be more proficient in it anyway, as it's her main element.
Those are all just theories and thoughts I had after reading your comment and thinking on it. Sorry for such a long comment, I love this sorta stuff! If you read this, thanks for your time in reading my response! 😁

What things did they do in war apart from getting captured and beat up? A waste of interesting characters.
How to fix this problem. Make the Guardians playable characters.

I’d gladly play a “Warfang Warriors” with the guardians as playable characters.
