  • Greetings, Historians! Today, we're going to talk about an element, while rather undefined in the games it was introduced in, it almost holds domain as the most important element in the Legend of Spyro universe.

    I love how much lore the Legend series has, enough to expand into more games, which sadly may not happen, at least in the original LOS-verse. Two of my favorite bits: First, it's implied that there may be Water and Wind Elemental dragons as well (which implies that Cynder may have originally been intended to be a Wind dragoness before her corruption). Secondly, there's also mention that Ignitus had a Squire by the name of Pyra, who according to the lore, is stranded on an island somewhere.

      Hey, I'm working on a gamebook for Legend of Spyro. I won't brag because we all know how these fan projects tend to end but writing a gamebook isn't as hard as programing a game so I have great hopes for it. Sure it won't be as visually appealing but interactive fiction is probably the next closest thing to a game there is. If I get to get this project on the road I would love to build some of your ideas if that's okay with you. Wind and water dragons sound really cool and this is the first time I hear about Pyra, need to check her out.

    Discovering Jared's DA account a few years ago was an absolute treat, especially to get such great insight into the development of the story and characters. If given more time these games and the lore could have been expanded into quite a broad universe. All the unused ideas and concepts and better explanations for how the elements and the world came to be is just so great!
    I'm glad to see that the Legend of Spyro fanbase is still very dedicated to this day, especially to people like Mr Lore of the Dragon. I'm hopeful that some of the LOS lore will be incorporated into future Spyro games, even if they are going to keep in theme with the original trilogy. There is some evidence of this I think in Crash Team Racing, Nitro Fueled when they introduced Spyro, Hunter and Gnasty Gnorc as playable characters because they also included some LOS themed cosmetic items, like elemental wheels for your cart like Fire, Electricity, Ice, Wind, Nature and two purple elements, a lighter one called "Magic" and a darker one called "Darkness".

    One of my favorite topics in the Spyroverse.
    Aether (or Convexity as we met it for first time) was one of those elements I really felt curious about through the games.
    I remember that once Jared had a DA I looked on it to see more of the world from The Legend of Spyro, including the Aether and it was fascinating all his headcannon about it, specially what it is exactly and how it wields to only the purple dragons (both Aether and Dark Aether).
    That also may explain the condition of Cynder turning purple (which has seen as something "bad" by some as black/grey fitted her better) but it could make sense.
    As for the element to appear in the Reignited series, I find it quite hard to see how and why considering the ambience of the games. If they do something like Shadow Legacy they maybe would include it and grant it a reason to exist.
    Again, great video!
    Loved the take of some headcannon and speculations about this mistic, powerful element.

    I never truly noticed how much the headcanons and even some of the story relies on "spirituality" in the cosmic sense. The mention of ancestors was always an obvious one, but the way Aether is essentially the source of all magic is fantastic. It's a lot like how matter can't be created or destroyed, but similar to the Big Bang/creation of the universe, there had to be an origin point, but it's so far out of reach, that it's true origin will probably never be known. I love how TLoS borrows from principles of science (like Aether = matter) and religion/spirituality (believing in an afterlife and in greater powers, and connections to nature and others) to further it's own universe. As complex as the lore can be, I never truly knew it was this connected to our own world until now, and it's beautiful. What better way to build a world with a believable setting, believable characters, and a believable story than to borrow from real world influence? It's just genius, and it explains why so many things work so well together. I definitely want to keep these things in mind if I ever do create a story of my own. Jared Pullen is a fantastic world builder and writer, and his knowledge of the series (or at least his headcanons since most of these details sadly don't get confirmed or denied in the games) is phenomenal. And the more I think about it, the less I see the "basic" copy and paste plot most people will accuse this game of having after only a glance. I do think the execution in the games themselves could've been so much better, but I'm still happy we got even the slightest glimpse into this, and I'm even more honored to have been a fan of this trilogy since I played A New Beginning at 6 years old. 💜
    Thank you, Lore of the Dragon, for another amazing video on Spyro lore, headcanons, and speculations. 😊🧡 These are amazing, and they've been an awesome way to spend my time and actually use my brain cells over the summer, LOL. Proud to be a historian! 😃😌 I'll definitely be revisiting these in the future for inspiration, but until then, I'll be enjoying more of your content, stay awesome! 😁😎

      I can agree more whit you, the spiritual and sciense bit they borrow are really fancinating! I really think every story is indectly borrows from real world influense, because the ideas we borrow , even our imaginacion comes form pre-conseps of things we have in our memory , but even they, yes it facianted how much love jared and the team put into the characters and the game. I am a big fan too desipite enconter the legend at 13 years old and having played the classic as a strart, but The legend has a story and charactes that winned my heat more, even if I have a spot for classic too!

    After listening to your video, I believe that the Aether may be a sort of "Pure essence of Magic" which would explain why, under normal circumstances, is never used.
    I also believe that if someone who is not a Purple Dragon or didn't has to do with the Aether before (that's why Cinder would be the only exception to this) tries to use the Aether, he/she may be either brutally damaged, internally and externally, in its body or instantly killed by it (I imagine that, in the worst possible case, the latter may happen to Ignitus as well) , whatever the case would be, it would be really creepy and gruesome to see.

    • @heartless2147
      @heartless2147 4 года назад +6

      It was the Lunar Eclipse and Spyro being caught in the Lunar Alignment that freed Malefor. Spyro infused with Dark Aether and destroying Gaul caused the mountain to crumble from the overwhelming power, thus freeing Malefor from the well.

    • @Akirasip
      @Akirasip 2 года назад

      Either that, or Malefor was just saying that to get into Spyro's head.

  • @TidalVex
    @TidalVex 4 года назад +6

    I don't agree with all of Jared Pullen's headcannons, but it is nice to have some sort of story development notes on the Legend of Spyro games. I particularly agree with the idea that Ignitus is Spyro's father as the two already have a father-son relationship and Ignitus looks almost uncannily similar to what an adult Spyro might look like.
    Cynder being "tainted" to become purple makes a lot of sense to me, but I always thought it was because she was trapped in the time crystal with Spyro for three years. His innate Aether power sort of leaked over to her, making her an artificial purple dragon and unlocking her other breath abilities which, due to Malefor, are dark elements. Cynder basically becomes the Dark Aether Dragon to Spyro's Aether/Purple Dragon. I also think that Cynder looks better with the dark purple scales as it makes her stand out more. It might be the reason they kept that color in Skylanders as well it makes her design "pop."
    The Dark Realm from Shadow Legacy is kind of like Dark Aether, especially with the dark crystals that Spyro has to destroy in that game. Shadow Legacy as a whole is like a TLOS game in the Classic universe, with the Sorcerer almost being the "Classic" version of Malefor.

    • @loreofthedragon
      @loreofthedragon  4 года назад +3

      Actually, another idea I had at one point was her turning purple due to her proximity to Spyro during that time, to be honest I sorta forgot to mention it here, if the subject comes up again in the case of let’s say a purple dragon prophecy video, I’ll see if I can bring up your point in it, sorta make it a Aether part 2 I perhaps?

    "Yet through Aether, in addition to lending strength, there would certainly be other aspects of a dragon's energy that could be transferred as well...or even taken."
    I wonder if this might lend some explanation for Cynder's change in scale color. Certainly, compared to Spyro, she's blacker. But she's also definitely not as black as she was. Perhaps when Spyro used Aether to cast out the Dark Aether in her, and later used Aether to encase himself, her, and Sparx in crystal, perhaps some aspect of his energy was infused into her and reflecting that in her scales becoming a dark purple.
    Just a theory.

    As someone who likes both the Legend series and classic series, I'd prefer for Aether to be kept separate from Classic Spyro. Legends having generally a darker and more grand fantasy tone, makes sense for it to have some end all, be all, absolute power of cosmic/spiritual energy for the hero of the story to wield as the threat level gets higher and higher. Classic Spyro doesn't need something as broken as Aether to be added

  • @aneledragondreamer173

    That aether was is the source of magic, cosmic magic, and Elements are magic that comes from nature ( or better say that was shaped by the nature) and we speculate, that the fists dragons all use eather,.... but in a weak way maybe, and not how we see Spyro or Malefor or Cynder use, it could mean that with the past time certain dragons living in certain environments wold shape and transform their eather breath into the element they use , like an adaptive proses so animals can survive. also it could mean that dragons did't have the district colors or markings and other characteristics on their body's, and it was a thing that evolved an change.

    Nah, LOS and just spyro the dragon are completely different stories. Spyro the dragon is just a fun cute game with a comedic story. LOS, as far as the aether and dark aether is your typical light and darkness balance in a universe. The darkness always seeming to be far more powerful, but far more dangerous and taxing on the user... always corruptible. This same situation is being told, and has been being told in the destiny universe from bungie studios. We finally got our hands on darkness abilities and lore behind it all. Even more this season, we see how ridiculously corruptible it is and how strong it truly is. (That's usually what makes it corruptible, the wielder gets obsessed with power). Kinda like lord of the rings. I always said LOS was basically a LOTR edition of spyro the dragon. Frodo and all.
