Could these Brazilian air rifle pellets be a game changer? Rifle RTX premium & Diabolo STR

  • Accuracy testing the new Rifle brand air rifle pellets. i test 2 types, the RTX premium 8.33gn competition pellet and the Diabolo STR hunting pellet.
The RTX certainly look like they have huge potential and are made to super high standards matching a lot of the top end European brands such as H&N and JSB and they bare a lot of resemblance to the RWS super fields and the Norma heavy hunting pellets.
The diabolo STR are unfortunately one of the worst pellets ive used to date and resemble the old boxed pellets from the 1980s...
I use the Air Arms xti 50 and the airmaks katran and also use the new clamping rig for some super accurate testing.

I can't complain as I won second prize in a completion run by Sporting Air Rifle 1960s for an HW 80 (the first prize I think was the HW 77 and the third was the smaller gun than the HW 80) We had to purchase a box of new pellets that were useless grouping at around 12 inch at 35 yds ) and say in so many words why we liked using them. I collected the HW80 from a show at Kempton Park when I collected it one of the people on their stand turned to his mate and said here is another one who tells lies. They had a few field knockdown targets set up so I tried to enter with it with open sights he put a few shots through the Chrono and it was doing 14 ft-lbs new straight out of the box So he wouldn't let me enter. I think that with Wasp in 22

Pellet testing is one of the chores, I must admit to have moved away from the usual routine as, well, life is too short.
It does, however, hack me off immensely that there seems to be a massive lack of consistency, even more so these days, in a certain pellet manufacturer.
Example. Yes I like to size my own pellers. No I dont go weighing, been there got the t shirt, but I like to get a load of 453 and size them down to 452 and 451s. In batches of course.
It has become apparent that when I do a run of FX 452 and check a random 50 odd by actually putting then through the 452 sizer they consistently stop around 14 mm into the sizer. This gives me a really good feeling about manufacturing tolerances, which is what we look for.
Try that with another brand with 453 stated sizes and 2 in 50 drop right through the 452 sizer!
I can only assume from this and what I have heard at my club, that this manufacturer may have ceased investment in tooling due to external political influences in the future of lead projectiles.
Of course I could be completely wrong here and am willing to be corrected.

If you are interested in a literal pellet proof backstop l would seriously recommend using blu tac, yes the exact same stuff you use stuff to stick things to.
Less than half and inch of the stuff will stop a 12 ftlb 14.5 grain pellet no problem, at one inch you can literally hit the same spot 10 times in a row at point blank range and it wont blow through the back and catches absolutely all of the leftover lead which can be melted down into slingshot ammo or fishing weights (or more airgun ammo if you have the right equipment to make your own) it makes zero noise when hit also so if you have nosey neighbours who like to complain about the slightest thing/noise its an absolute must, yes it can cost a bit to have a lot of it bit for £20 ive made a 6 inch by 6 inch and 1 inch thick plate of the stuff and is my go to backstop.
If you freeze the stuff the pellet wont even make it more than a couple milimeters through it, i even froze a pencil shaped piece and smacked it with a 500g hammer on an anvil and it didnt shatter, the stuff is remarkably good at stopping kenetic energy dead.
Ive even used 1 inch wide broadheads on a wooden shaft arrow from a 40lb draw weight recurve bow and the tips barely poke out the other side, using field points it works even better at stopping them.
A slingshot that gives off around 20 ftlb of energy with 10mm steel balls it barely makes it through 3mm of the blu tack at room temperature and the steel balls dont bouce off it either
I would seriously recommend anyone who doesnt have access to a lot of land or cant get to a rifle range to give it a go, it can also be used to line your pellet traps to make them absolutely completely quiet, the thinner the layer the more often youll have to remove the lead pellets and reshape it into a somewhat consistently thick plate to shoot.
Ive not tested it with any fac rated airguns or firearms so i cant speak on that though i would love to see someone shoot a .22lr at a 2 foot thick block of the stuff then pour plaster into whatever would channel would be created to see how deep and how much expansion it causes because it almost polishes .22 pellets with 11.5ft lb when it stops them and causes them to expand a bit due to how quickly it stops them

    • @xMrjamjam
      @xMrjamjam 15 дней назад

My freezer goes as low as -20 celcius for anyone curious and theres no cracking or any signs of stress.
Using a 5.5 ftlb air pistol they only dent it and get caught by it at room temperature they make it aprox 2mm deep at point blank range.
When i tested it, it genuinely blew my mind at how well it works plus you can stick paper targets directly to it without needing tape, maybe a pin at the most but ive never needed to use pins or staples plus you can use permanent market to draw a dot onto it for a very simple target which is a game changer for newbies who are getting into shooting airguns but cannot for whatever reason get to a rifle range due tio them being unable to drive or just want to simply shoot at home without worry of damaging anything

With my usual caveat “…in the barrel of my gun.”
I’ve gone away from .177 JSB Exact Diablo and Express pellets because of the too large variation (manufacturing tolerance) in weight and head size in each tin (unless you luck into a particular batch) let alone between batch numbers. The Premium pellets are much better - but you pay a high price for them.
I was given some Norma pellets recently. Very small variation in weight and head size. The head size is relatively small; which, “in the barrel of my gun”, opens up the group.
I’m always on the lookout for the best pellet “in the barrel of my gun”. Which, currently, is the Barracuda 8 - and (at time of comment) less than £9 a tin, is very affordable. For balance, in a friend’s HW100 they group abysmally.

Anyone else really hoping the shitty pellets turned out brilliant? Saying that, if they made them better, they could turn out quite decent.

I was hoping for a miracle... Tbh they actually grouped way better than I thought they would 🤔 kinda throws a spanner in the works for the microscopic tolerances we are usually after..

There are a better Brazilian brand which is called the FF Balistic Power and the FF Hellboy. They are more looking like the Skenko pellets. Try those.

I don't think we can get them in Europe mate. Are you in Brazil? I'd like to try as many different pellets as possible from all around the world 😉😉

Realmente os str não prestam, qualidade muito ruim. Alguns modelos de pelets da marca rifle são de qualidade medianas, no .22 tem melhor qualidade. Chega agrupar bem em alguns rifles de ar.

Is there any other versions? We have some slugs and the Str and Rtx .
Is there any other interesting pellets made in Brazil? I would like to try as many different ones as possible, from all around the world 😉😉

Sim!

🤣😂 there's a few there that I'm particularly fond of. In the zoomed in pic there's a few that the flutes in the skirts are almost plaited together. They're like a magic eye picture.my eyes can't focus on them, just looks completely impossible a shape to make.

The comedy Pellets must be Uniformly Deformed to get that tight.
I have a much cheaper rifle and I still get quarter sized groups at 30 yards using Crosman 7.4 grain Pointed.
Also nice consistent muzzle velocities, which I believe helps.
