Finally testing JSB's most extreme hunting pellet.. Hades Exact

  • Are the jsb hades the best hunting pellet available? or are the exact heavies still the best?
Ive finally found a decent batch of the hades. Previous tests have been relatively poor however this recent batch shows good accuracy at short to medium range and as soon as the wind dies off i will push these out to the extreme ranges.
i test them into the putty lined silent pellet trap to check the penetration and wether they expand on impact
i use the Air Arms xti50 and the airmaks katran in both multi and single shot configuration
the results are fairly impressive as ive always seen the hades as a bit of a gimmick compared the exact heavies
i also measure the head sizes to make some comparison to other known good batches.

I'm gonna quit with JSB. Used always the Exacts 8,44 in 4,52 and my HW's liked them. Nice tight fit. Now i started with a new bulk 10 pack 4,52 and they just drop in the barrel, i don't even have to push them in and they are also not grouping as well as the first batch. Hades have never been my favorite, to many flyers. Thanks for your video buddy 👍 Cheers!

My Air Arms rifles generally like JSBs, Air Arms own brand and RWS. My BSA rifle likes own brand BSA pellets. H&N and QYS seem to work well in all my rifles. The only certainty is that every barrel is different and works at its very best with something you didn't expect... 😀

Great video, confirms my findings. I am a big fan of Hades and Heavies in .177 but I only use the Hades out to 20m, they are get a bit sketchy beyond that. I don’t think the Hades heads distort much at sub 12, I think they probably produce a slightly bigger shockwave ahead of them in soft material. Hades always load smoothly as you say due to the smaller head size.

I'd love to know how or atleast at what stage of the swaging process the slits are cut/pressed Into the heads.the heads of the Hades are nowhere near as consistent as the heavies,in .177 atleast. 😉

My understanding is your vid confirms most shooter’s findings of .177 hades not being great past 20/25yds
Bizarrely it seems to be the case that .22 hades perform much better at sub12 than the .177
My krait .177 barrel didn’t hades but loved heavy’s however my .22 krait barrel loves hades even out at distance.
Do you have any .22 barrels/rifles? It would be good to see if you could take a look at the .22 hades

Morning mate, I've actually got a couple of .22 barrels for the 9015 but it doesn't really run that well when backed off to suit. The reg pressure is a bit too high being as it's set up for .177
I'm waiting on a bunch of new affordable guns,I've got matching in .177 and .22 on order (plus once the paperwork is sorted some high power stuff) so I'll be able to do some decent side by side testing.
All very exciting and should be able to make some great content that will get us all nerding out 🫣

  • @mrln247
    @mrln247 Месяц назад +2

I have had some frustrating results with the .177, but the .22 are consistently super accurate (@sub12) Bc measured 0.024 and have more stopping power.
With the .177, maybe 5-8 through same hole then random flier. CZ200 (early) it never shot heavies well one day I will try tweaking the power curve up to 150-160bar see if that helps.
They had the highest BC of any .177 I have tested 0.031 and make the most power out of the barrel just wish I could get rid of the fliers, idea of the higher pressure is to get them to obturate more to maybe fit the barrel better. Might be the manufacturing just doesn't quite work this small.

Have you measured up the heads of the .177? One of the previous batches they were distinctly triangular (well almost..) I do imagine that it's easier to accurately add the cuts into the heads of the larger cals. I'd like to see how it's done and at what stage of manufacture. 🤔

Good video. I feel the quality control at JSB isn't what it used to be. The variation between batches is simply too much. Im an FT shooter who washes, dries, sizes, weighs and inspects my ammo. Why?... Because it makes a difference.
JSB have always been a bit hit n miss with quality, even down to the same batch numbers.
I bought 30 tins of JSB Exact and started the process.
From the 30 tins I managed to get 1 tin of not damaged, consistent weight pellets. (8.5 to 8.6gr pellets)
Pellets were suppose to be 4.52 yet they fall thru a 4.50 sizer. (Quality eh)
I melted the lot of them and bought 7.9 Crossman Premiers.
7.9gr Crossman Premiers. other than washing. There is no need to size or weigh them as they are consistent. I still do but out of 10 tins of pellets, there is typically less than 100 out of spec pellets. Its very rare to find a damaged pellet.
I can also pile them on top of each other at 50 yards

@@tillysgunstocks Most slugs shoot at a slower speed as you know and I think may have mentioned previously in a video, due to their broader contact with the barrel, causing slightly more friction and often up to 1 FPE loss or more over diabolos! Ive managed to tune my Snowpeak T Rex Bullpup (bought in Spain with Spanish power ie 24J and de-gassed so to speak for uk regs) to shoot both the 13 and 16 grain (which are also very accurate) H&N slugs at around 11.7-11.9 along with similar energy parameters for AA 8.4s, H&N 8s, H&N Barras at 10.65, Qys streamlined at 9.6 and some others. Also consistent velocities with 130 shots + with mostly a 4-6 fps variation from top to bottom of a 250 bar fill down to 100 bar in a 150cc tube. Lots of testing and fettling with variable spring loads reg pressures and Tp port diameters plus lots and lots of pellets, but finally A great tune to shoot a variety of pellets-slugs at consistent high power with consistent fps! A great gun to boot at 250 squidleys!! A 5minute change of Tp and hammer spring puts me right back to 17 FPE with same or similar consistency for when I go back to Espańa! 😊👍

There's a lot of miss interpretation of the function of the head as it's not about pure "expansion", more about creating shock and having a breaking effect.
If your going to pick a medium to test into try and find something soft enough but there's penetration difference and then measure those differences. Also good is if you have it free swinging on a string that way you can more visually see energy transfer vs over penetration.
The head should keep them true in the target but will stop the pellet much faster for more energy dump. The guys @taofledermaus have tested some similar shaped prjectiles even non expanding hard projectiles in this shape create more damage than a dome will.

GREAT Vid yet again, really love those in depth pellet tests, BUT, those Hades are complete and utter SHITE, yes you just MIGHT get one or two on here responding how great they are in there rifles, and YES every barrel is different blah blah blah, but at the end of the day NOT ONE of my ( 19 ) rifles likes em, bought a tin when they first came out, still got half a tin left.. NEVERTHELESS, in. 22 cal, they are excellent, must be something to do with overall shape.. Who knows, and yer quite right, opinions are well divided.. Bet it's something like 95% don't rate them, 4% do like them, and 1% ain't really tested them, or are drunk or on class C drugs and don't give a rats ass...

Cheers mate, I really hoped for something cool to happen on film.. I've tried numerous batches over the years and these are the best, but still not that much cop. We've all seen how me and the heavies get on. They're mega!
