  • Accuracy testing the H&N econ 2 flat head budget pellets..
    Despite the incredibly modest price the short range performance is really very good and they would make a great short range pest control pellet as well as being perfect for shooting in confined spaces such as the garden
    these work well in springer rifles aswell as air pistols and at under £4 a tin they are perfect for long days plinking and informal target shooting
    I used the Airmaks Katran and the Anschutz 9015 and got carried away so ended up plinking my custom spinners and busting some cans..

    These pellets are amazing for their price. When I shoot them with my scoped and rested HW40 I make groups like yours at 15 meters. A German content creator once made a test of a whole range of low budget pellets and he weighed a certain number of each can. At the time he used the predecessor (same name but without the II). They seemed to have the lowest variation rate in individual weight. They ended up at the top of the ranking too. So, also by my own experience, the Excite Econ II is definitely a very good budget round both for training and plinking, at least up to 10 or 15 meters.

However WBSF (UKBRA) is completely different targets at 100 yards rimfire/centre fire, and completely different benchrest equipment/rests.

    Good stuff. We have the same pellets over here, called Ecole de Tir, but peering at the tin they are H and N .In the CFX they give a one inch group at 20yds, amazing for the price.The Rat Gamo is 22 though and not easy to find a relaible cheap pellet for it.We are OK up to nearly 15fpe here, and the extra power(if the gun actually gets near that !! ) does alter the accuracy of lighter pellets. Good luck with the yet more projects. All the best Keith.

      Hi mate, have you tried the flat heads at lower powers? Typically it seems the best performance is in the sub 6ftlb rifles and a lot of pistols seem to do really well, they will usually also be only around 4-5ftlb

    You might also try Yorkshire Targets, those are the hardest one's in the UK, they are not ISSF or WBSF.
    Also, use 10 metre air rifle sighter targets at 25 yards for practice, its psychology, practice on smaller targets and then shoot the ISSF 25 yard targets and it all looks a lot easier.
    I use the 10 metre air rifle targets at 25 yards/50 metres, and 25 yard air rifle targets at 100 yards before shooting proper ISSF 100 yard/100 metre targets.

    The Econ II is a superb budget pellet and punches way over it's price point. They used to be £2.99 a tin so at a few pennies under £30 a sleeve I bought a shedload of them and still have about 30 tins left.
    They are brilliant for 10m in particular. I've compared them to the usual flathead pellets (JSB Target, R10 Match, H&N Finale, Meisterkugeln etc) and there's not much in it between them.

    Not surprising to see them spread out at the longer range, may be worth trying them at an indoor range to see if it is the same. I usually shoot these over 10M with diopter sights, but also use them for testing after working on a rifle. Cheap to blast through, to see how the rifle is working. They hardly cycle at all with the magazine on the S400 I had, but that is the only one that I have had that issue with.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 месяца назад

      When I can get indoors at the proper range, I'll give them a better test in the more controlled environment. It'll be great to compare my outdoor results with the indoor ones. Then we will all see how bad a shot I really am 🤣

  • @hankvana2149
    @hankvana2149 2 месяца назад

    I've been using these as a general shooting/plinking pellet for years with good results.
    In being fair, testing a pellet in an airgun only shows the compatibility of that pellet in that barrel with that tune and is IMHO pretty meaningless.
    In a fixed tune airgun (like a springer), we search for the "golden pellet" that shoots well in that particular airgun. With an adjustable airgun (PCP), we tune to get the best performance with a specific pellet. A small tweak to your second gun might have shown a big improvement in group size.
    My point is that a slight change in tune can result in totally different results. The only way to know if a pellet is accurate is to try it in YOUR gun.
    My perspective is that you can't test a pellet for accuracy (that is gun dependent) but you can inspect the pellets for consistency in manufacture - size, weight, deformity, contamination, etc.
    About flathead pellets and range... I've found that in my airguns (springers, PCPs and 10 meter match guns) that groups start to open up beyond 15 yards and by 20-25 yards are poor relative to domed pellets - regardless of brand or quality. Just my observations.
    Cheers!

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 месяца назад

      I agree entirely mate, and with the match grade ammo I use and test here,the testing regime is much more involved. Having said that ,whilst working within a power limit,it greatly reduces our options to fine tune the rigs.so batch testing becomes far more important.
      With a super budget pellet a nice light hearted test through a few guns is enough and a chilled out watch 😉

    I use a 22 cal. (1.19 gram / 18.4 grain) Meteor pellet - locally made (Philippines). Tin of 100 @ $2.1 USD / 1.7 GBP - delivered.
    Numbers are approximate and depend on the tin. Learned to not mix tins due to wide variation. Within a tin usually not too bad. Each new tin requires a little zero twiking when starting . Some have over sized head, that need sizing, others no sizing needed but always seat / dress skirt , using rounded large nail.
    Locally made hammer PCP (trigger assembly, receiver, barrel, modulator). I picked up for 280 GBP - rifle, scope, bipod, modulator, range finder, scuba tank takeoff w/ filter. Plenum at 1,900 psi, about 900 fps / 275 mps = 33 ft-lb / 45 NM. At 100 yards 10.2 ft-lb / 14.3 NM.
    50 yards sub 25 cm, 75 about 35 cm. Not good enough for local competition but for plinking is OK.
    Some typical Philippine PCPs. Hammers are cheaper / easier to build than side cocking. ruclips.net/video/v_dkbyHipBU/видео.html

    Used these at 10m in CO2 pistol, accurate but same problem in magazine 👍🥸

      Hi mate, seems they are very popular in the pistols. It'd be interesting to try them wound down in the rifles.

    As a .22 fan when I could still see to hit a target. I used to use
    RWS Hobby flatheads as my light pellets and Ely Wasp for anything else. I never thought of pellets as an expensive item until they came out with steelheads.
