    I love hearing your stories and your advice! I'm a college student, and I perform as a birthday party princess as mainly Ariel and Anna, and it's one of the best jobs I've ever had!! I'm hoping to make it to Florida after I graduate! :)

    You have the kindest heart & the most genuine advice! I still really want to be a Disney princess, just focusing on my career first ... Maybe someday!

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      Madison Marie exactly! Yes, I love that some of the Disney princesses had their priorities.. it's very easy to get sucked into "princess world" when you're in it. But it's a job that is short lived because you only look "young enough" for "so long." So it's important to have long term goals that go above and beyond the princess "dream." I remember girls who did it during college, but as soon as they graduated moved onto their "bigger more long term" career goals. I admired that, or if they had an important internship that came up while they were at the university, they were quick to drop the princess gig. Why? Because they knew it wasn't something that would last. Or else I knew other girls who were princesses but also talented dancers, who did the princess thing, but after "having their fill," moved onto other markets, such as in Miami auditioning for acting roles, or moving to other cities where they could dance for shows that were big tourist attractions/or on cruise ships, one Princess Jasmine I knew danced for the Orlando Magic basketball team and went on from there, dance was her first passion, but she wanted to dance in the Disney stage shows. She was our head Jasmine that was used for the biggest shows & commercials. Dance was her life, but it's like Rachel said in our first video, we're drawn to the princesses because of what they symbolize, haha, at least I was! they stand for kindness, always do the right thing, etc. xo

    Thank you for this wonderful video! I always love them! I also love how you say find a new dream, I was so focused on trying out to be a princess, but now I realize I'm too short, so I was thinking of something like Tinkerbell, or anything at Disney! I also found another dream last year of doing birthday parties as Elsa! It seriously is a dream come true! Love your videos!

    Do you have to be like really "beautiful" to be a disney princess? This job sounds like an amazing experience, one which I have always dreamed of doing... I love myself and feel beautiful, but I am worried that I don't look conventionally pretty enough to be cast. I was just wondering how much looks play a part in the hiring process? thanks xx

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад +7

      Malee Rowell I believe every girl has something beautiful about her, whether it's her eyes, her smile, her hair... she has SOMETHING! I think they tend to try to cast to a "conventional" beauty, but it's not ALWAYS that way---so it's important, I think, to feel beautiful and see yourself as beautiful--the princesses are drawn to be beautiful and for the audience to see them that way, so I think it helps if you feel beautiful. We all know that inner beauty is most important and that's truly what makes the princesses beautiful and makes us love them (who wants to watch a Disney movie about a snobby, or depressed Princess??) They're supposed to be like a female heroine. It's a performing role--you get the chance to leave your reality behind and take on a character, to be someone you might not be in real life, to help bring that magic to the kids. If you're not a "conventional beauty".. then there's a chance you may not be cast, but I still wouldn't rule yourself out. You won't know for certain until you audition. Make sure you're taking your acting classes and your dance classes (to the best of your ability).. give yourself every foot up that you can. Do yourself up to the best of your ability for your audition, so that you feel your most beautiful. Let that confidence shine through. OFTEN Disney casts girls who I don't think I would have cast, but the casting director has the final say--they are the judge, it's up to them to decide. But from a guest perspective (now that I am a guest and not working as a princess at Disney) I see things in a different light. When my daughter goes up to Pocahontas, do I care that she doesn't look exactly like Pocahontas??? no. lol, not really. I only care that my daughter met Pocahontas, that she believed it was Pocahontas or whoever.. Cinderella.. and that my daughter was happy to meet her. That's what I care about. I focused on giving the guests the best experience/memory that I could give them.. was my acting worthy of an academy award? no. Was I the most beautiful girl in the world? no. But I did the best I could to portray Jasmine and if a little girl thought I was great, then I was happy. I wish you the very best, I hope you're cast and if you're not, you're still gorgeous. And there's a ton more ways to bring joy to families at Disney than portraying a character.. I wish you the best! xo

    Last year I worked as a fur-character doing shows and meet and greets at an amusement park here in Sweden. This year I was going to audition for a different position, where you get to lead the animal-related shows, such as the seal show, dressed as a pirate. At the audition we got to dance, sing, do a monologue as well as performing a piece of the show. Before the audition I found your videos and started watching them frantically. Even though I wasn't auditioning to work at Disney I felt like I could use a ton of your advice. I walked in to the audition confident and with a big smile on my face and two days later I found out that I got the part. Now I just keep watching your videos because I simply love listening to you talking about Disney, your family and encouraging people to become more confident in themselves. Keep up the good work!

    Hi Jennifer!! I hope ti be a face character in one of the parks too as soon as I can get up to Orlando (probably for college) and my ultimate dream is to become an Imagineer. I am getting face character "practice" by dressing as Princess Merida and going to local parks to surprise kids completely out of the blue. They love it and I have gotten so much praise from parents thanking me and I've been hired to do a few birthday parties as well. I hope I can get through the Disney audition - the only thing I think would stand in my way is my lack of dance experience but I have learned from your videos that as long as I have a good attitude & keep on smiling, I may get through anyway :) Thank you for all your advice to help prepare us all for auditions!

    I am soooooo happy that you're still doing these! I'm also very relieved to find out that you don't have to have your ears pierced. I was wondering though, if you get hired do you have certain regulations like getting vaccinations or having to give blood? Also I wanted to let you know how my character training was going. I've been taking ballroom dance lessons since August and my instructor said I'm a natural at the waltz!

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      DisneyDiva93 I think that's way too cool that you're a natural at the Waltz, sounds like you are on your way! thank you for the updates! I'd love to hear anymore if you have any in the future. :) as for giving blood, thankfully, Disney never made me do that, I faint at the slightest bit, it's awful. haha, I had to be strong during pregnancy when the hospital draw all kinds of blood though. augh. but that's not Disney so no worries, lol. I don't remember anything about vaccinations either. Nobody ever questioned me.. I just remember an intense background check before getting hired. :)

    Wonderful video and great advice. I just started a RUclips channel or putting videos up. Thank you for sharing your experiences. So many girls dream about being disney princesses and it's wonderful how down to earth the characters can be. I always felt like princess Mia from princess diaries in that I never thought I could ever be a princess of any kind because I don't think I'm pretty or have a good body image. It really makes my day knowing that even if you can't be a disney princess that you are still beautiful and a princess at heart. The two princesses that I would want to be aren't even at disney world because they aren't considered animated or in the disney princess list.

    Hi my Alyssa and I've really been thinking about auditioning to be a Disney princess, And probably for Repunzel or Anna, because feel I look like and am the most like the too of them. i have seen all three of you and Rachel's confession video and its inspired me more and made want to do it even more, hearing you're stories and experiences, and I think it would the most amazing feeling in the world to make some little kids or teen/adults life and just see there faces light up when they see you:)
    There one thing that you haven't talked much about in your videos, and that's meeting the Make A Wish children, How do you keep from cry and getting Emotional? I'm sure its hard not, But how do you keep yourself from getting emotional? And I would love to hear I more about experiences with them as well.

    I'm going to be Mulan and Pocahontas for princess parties, and I was wondering about Mulan's character. She seems more modern than the other princesses. After rewatching Pocahontas' movie, I noticed that she definitely has the soft, girlish voice, but Mulan escapes me. She and Pocahontas both have wit, but Mulan was in the army, thought most show her in the matchmaker dress. I'm a little lost with her. :/ I've been brainstorming one-liners for when kids decide to quiz me, so I feel okay there. Just a little advice would be nice, thanks!

      Sirikhwan Pamornkul Hey Sirikhwan! Congratulations! have you searched meetings of guests with Mulan on RUclips? I'd start there.. I'm sure you've watched her film, but I'd also grab one liners off of the film, if there's any special phrases that stood out to you or things of that nature, making sure you know the names of the other characters so that you can refer to them in a pinch, such as her parent's names, the dragon, etc. Did you watch the Angela video I had posted? "Angela meets the princesses"?? there's some great video of Mulan in there.. xo

    I would love to be a Disney face character, preferably Peter Pan. Seeing as I'm a girl, I understand I could not be an actual Pan face character, but do you know if there is any way I could be Peter in a parade? Even if I didn't get this role, any role in Disney entertainment would be amazing.

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      Genna Hailey Hey Genna, I don't believe they'd cast you even in a parade because of the gender thing :( the only reason is because they use actual Peter Pan face characters who do the meet n greet in the parks for the parades (last time I checked).. this is only what I've seen/experienced.. but by working in Disney entertainment someday, you never know what doors may open for you.. you never know unless you try! xo

    Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for making these videos! It's really helping me with the auditions that I go to! I really want to be a face character, but I'm a little concerned about my facial profile. I know they look at that during the lineup part. My nose isn't huge, but it's not super small either. It's straight though but is kind of longer. I guess I was wondering if one feature like that will completely make or break the decision! I know it's a bit silly to ask though ahaha.

      ***** yeah, you def. see that. It's egos. It can be an emotional thing. Imagine if you had really wanted to get cast and got rejected. You might think, "What did they have that I didn't???" or visa versa, girls who are snobby thinking they're better than others. It's not a perfect work environment. It's up to the individual to be bigger.

    I was wondering if Disney princesses are allowed to have a certain amount of ear piercings or dyed yet natural colored hair (mine is bleached and I have double piercings)

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      Courtney Dowling I don't recall Disney caring too too much about the hair color (so long as it didn't look too fake).. they do tend to prefer a "natural/attractive hair color" look.. hard to describe, I know! if you get hired, they show you in the handbook how they want you to do your hair. I remember a new girl who had just had her hair especially dyed at a salon and when she got hired Disney made her change it (she'd spent so much money too!) but it was like some pink highlights or something and Disney made her get rid of them. :( That's one of the hardest parts about working there is.. maintaining that "Disney look." :)
      as for ear piercings.. I was only ever allowed to have one piercing.. Jasmine had those big earrings that I had to wear.. but since the cartoon only had one piercing, that's all I was allowed to have.. if the character you're portraying has no earrings, then they often make you just take the extra ear piercings you have out.. aka no jewelry whatsoever. You can probably search the princesses you hope to portray online and see what the costuming looks like.. they do their best to keep everyone looking the exact same no matter what park they're at.. whether in Disneyland Paris, TokyoDisney or Disneyland in the USA.. keeping that same consistent character appearance is huge for them. :)

    I have a small gap between my front teeth but they are all straight, could i still be a face character? I also am Australian so i obviously have an Australian accent will this make a difference as well? I could obviously put the accent on like someone would for Merida but would i have the same chance as everyone else?

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад +6

      +awpicteesh I'd have to see the gap to let you know if I thought casting would approve or not. That's definitely something to be concerned about, because if it is noticeable, they may not consider you for the role of a Disney princess, only because they don't have this trait.. but if it's not really noticeable they may not care. As for the accent, Disneyworld is strict in the sense they want you to have the same accent as the cartoon.. so for Merida, they would train you to sound like her, or for Mary Poppins/Alice.. but when it comes to Cinderella, they want that "good old fashioned" American accent just like the film. :) Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are great actors who are able to change their accent for whatever character they're playing. :) You can do it!! Disneyland Paris is not so strict though. I don't believe TokyoDisney is either. xo

    Yeah I can imagine a lot of that would happen..... rejection is so hard to face. I realize Disney has to have certain standards, but perhaps it would be nicer if they could encourage those that don't get in, to partake another cast member role in the parks. I don't get why they wouldn't let you be the Tinkerbell that flies before the fireworks. nobody can see from that distance. I think Disney is a little too picky for that job description. hope they change their mind and let you be Tinkerbell (flying job). my heart breaks for you as you passionately want that job, Jennifer. :( Never give up, if you want something, keep at it and they will see that you are keen (for everyone).
    Id love to be a cast member if only there was a Disney World or Land here in Aus.

I ended up becoming good friends with one of the girls personally who did it for years, they have strict rules because it's considered a stunt job. there was a height and weight restriction, no guy was ever short enough to do the job from what she said, which is why I'm curious where you got your info. Was it for Tokyo? they might have different rules there. gotta run to bed. hugs! xo

    I'm sorry If I'm annoying you with questions haha, but I was wondering if Cast members could date each other? I think I was reading a buzzfeed article or something like that, and two face characters were dating and one posted a picture of them IN COSTUME kissing. I heard he got fired. So I was wondering if they could have relationships with other CMs

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад +2

      Autumn Shivers lol! Great question, the main reason the cast member probably was fired was because you're not supposed to post photos of yourself in character doing anything questionable. haha, Disney tries to make sure their characters keep a certain reputation and if Aladdin is kissing a girl who is not Princess Jasmine well then Aladdin just looks like a jerk. lol. but as far as interdating within the company, oh man, they dated allllll the time. Those Aladdins I worked with were handsome and single and they lived it up. They dated Ariels, they dated dancers, they dated pretty much whoever they wanted. lol. Same for the Prince Charmings and so forth. One of my Aladdins actually married a Cinderella friend of mine. They are living happily ever after to this day. lol. He was from North Carolina so I assume they eventually moved back there since I haven't been in touch with them for a few years now, but yeah. It happened. Actually, my next door neighbors met on the college program (both from different states) and they married and now they live here. When you go to work for Disney, you'll see a great deal of people who meet while working at Disney, fall in love and marry. Happens quite a lot. You meet people with similar interests and ideals.. put yourselves in a fairytale wonderland (plenty of romantic dates to be had at Disney) and boom. lol. love. xoxoxo

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад +2

      Autumn Shivers Also, a Cinderella I worked with ended up marrying one of those Norwegian men in the Norway pavilion who I mentioned briefly in Confessions 1 & 2. :) Also knew a Belle who dated one of the head chefs in France.. the list goes on.

      Mark Forrest hahha, if I can find any who WANT to do a video, haha.. I'm glad to was able to make these vids with Rachel and Matt, however, most of my ex Disney character friends keep pretty silent on their time at Disney. Disney does a great job of instilling a "keep our secrets secret" mentality. Sometimes I think people are a little weird about it. Well, more than anything I think it's just something they share with family and friends, but to go public the way I have is "too much." They like their anonymity. :)

    Hi I am planning on auditioning to be a princess in parks. I do birthdays parties as princesses now and people always tell me it would be great for me. However, I have a really big smile! People usually tell me it's the prettiest thing about me but I'm worried it could prevent me from getting the job. I slightly show my bottom teeth when I smile and I didn't know if they have smile requirements or if it's just about having a "pretty and animated one"?

    Hello there!! My name is McKinley and I'm sixteen years old. I have been a Disney lover since I was born and with college approaching, I am exploring all of my options. I currently work for a local birthday party princess company and aspire to eventually work at Disney as a face character. I am 5 feet 2 inches tall and have pale skin. However, I have a third degree burn scar on my left forearm that is textured, but only noticeable very close up and if you look for it. I am concerned because I have researched, and all of the face characters it seems I am tall enough to play have short sleeved costumes. I am still planning to attend an audition eventually, although I am curious if there is any chance of me being cast as a face character even though I have a large scar on my forearm. I know Disney strives for perfection and there is a strict policy on tattoos, so I am wondering if my scar would be a similar case. Thank you so much!

      Samantha Klump Hey Samantha, thanks so much for your support and encouragement! Means a lot! As for Jasmine, I'd still try and audition to see what they think. If anything, I've seen Jasmines who are VERY light skinned. There are girls who do Belle who also do Jasmine, so that's something to keep in mind. To be honest, I'm one of the darkest Jasmine's I've ever seen Disney cast. There may have been one other girl a shade darker than me, but I rarely saw her, as she was seasonal status. Hey! I'm african American and would love to play Princess Tiana! I'm not as dark as she is in the movies thought but I have seen some lighter tones Tiana! Do you think my skin tone would matter even though I'm black? I've also heard that African Americans have been cast as jasmine and pocohontas! I'm very light toned so I think I could pass! Do you think this still happens today?

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      Morgan Ashleigh Hello beautiful Morgan! In my experience, the Princess Tianas I see in the theme parks are a darker shade of black---that's just what I've seen, however, I've spoken recently with a "friend of one of the Disney princesses" who told me that not all of the Tianas are as dark as the cartoon character. There is hope for the black girls with lighter skin tones. Even if I haven't met the black Jasmines, that doesn't mean they don't exist. I've seen more white girls play her than I have girls like myself who have some sort of ethnic background. HOWEVER---when it comes to Pocahontas, I have seen a mixed half white, half black girl cast!! So there is hope for the lighter skinned black girls out there---to be honest, it's going to come down to who is working in the casting department on the day you go to audition. The "Disney princess" look is in the eye of the beholder---I would love to see people in Disney casting who have a sensitive eye when it comes to race/ethnicity so that the door can be open for more diversity.. Jasmine had an ethnic background, but I often saw the door shut for girls who had an ethnicity.. on one hand I am told I am "too white" for a Latin chick.. but I feel I just can't win.. I can only be myself. I see myself as American.. that's my culture--it happens that I have Colombian culture in me too, but I wasn't born and raised in Colombia.. and I see some of the things they do as "different".. on the other hand, I have a lot of love for Latin people, naturally. I don't want white people to feel unloved either, my daughter is half white. lol. I'm getting off topic here, lol. The point is---there is hope for you, girl. lol. If minorities are going to be working in the world of Disney princesses---it's important to realize you're going to be a minority. lol. And that's OKAY!!! We are all unique and have a different role to play.. as a cartoon character we will appeal to different groups/culture of people and at the same time appeal to everyone.. I noticed Jasmine was super appealing to people from the Middle East/India/darker skinned people, but at the same time, she was loved by all.. Mulan, again, loved by all, but she especially appealed to families who value a strong feminine character.. Mulan isn't one of those typical Barbie girls... neither is Merida. Anyway, I'm way off topic here, I wish you the BEST! Go represent girl! xo

    • @georgiawhelan6424

      Fur characters/Wendy, alice and fairies - 4ft to 5ft 2
      All princesses: 5ft 3 to 5ft 7
      When you do go to a disney audition they measure you using 'disney height'. This is usually a bit shorter than your normal height :)

  • @Queer_Gabe
    @Queer_Gabe 9 лет назад

    Hey! Before I ask my question I just want to say that you are awesome! Now the question, do you think someone with self harm scars stands any chance for a face character? They are a bit noticable and are on the inner side of my forearm, and I have had children ask questions about it, although I did learn to move in a way to hide it. And I guess make up could help...I think I could maybe, just maybe be Belle, and her costumes have gloves... What do you think?

    • @xokayla3194xo
      @xokayla3194xo 9 лет назад

      +Gabriela Marramaque Hey! I also worked in entertainment at Disney and I think they wouldn't want to go the makeup route (because it might rub off, etc) but Aurora and Cinderella also always wear outfits that cover the arms so there should be no problem there! Rapunzel's also covers most of the arm, depending on where it hits below the elbow. So I think that you should DEFINITELY audition and they'd be more than willing to accommodate all parts of a perfect princess :)

    • @Queer_Gabe
      @Queer_Gabe 9 лет назад

      Thank you! :3 I will definately audition when I get a chance! I used to believe my scars would keep me from doing a bunch of things, but I've come to realise they only stop me if I let them.

      You're not aloud to get hit nails painted (only french tips and nude colors are aloud). I have no idea ahout the nail biting though..

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      Autumn Shivers I was told I was only allowed to have my nails painted a natural color. I remember girls having their nails done (acrylic) but I never did mine like that.. I just used a clear polish and kept them clean. :) I was always VERY simple. I never was able to have "fun" colored nails or anything. No blacks, reds, blues.. just natural. I never ever heard of a princess getting disapproved for nail biting. I think if any girls were ever caught they were told to simply not do it in front of guests. Very often, in a single hour, they will work you for 40 minutes, but then there is a 20 minute break, (bathroom, drinks, snack, watch tv/retouch makeup, anything you wish).. during that break is when if you really need to or have that habit, then that's when you'd do it.. but generally, it's not considered "princess-like" to do it. :)

    Hi Jennifer! I have another question. So I am thinking about auditioning for spring of next year like I told you in your other video, the problem is that I am only 5'1". Would they take people that height as some princesses? I was reading an article saying that most are about 5'3". I get told that i look and act a lot like either Anna, Tinkerbell and also Rapunzel. Any advice for me before I audition? I know not to go for a certain princess, but I feel like appearance-wise I am limited. Thanks so much!

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  9 лет назад

      Abby Hess Hey Abby! Awwww, you're 5'1" like my sister! She's the same height as you. Truth be told, I've never seen a princess cast below 5'3".. and the one I saw at that height was a princess Jasmine.. that was kind of pushing it. lol. Maybe with Tinkerbell they're less picky about the height? Most of the girls I worked with were an average 5'6".. about that. Advice I'd have is to know that your height may count against you.. so I'd aim to portray Tinkerbell.. because if all the other girls cast as Rapunzel & Anna are in the 5'4"+ range, then your chances go down even despite you having a similar look, so I'd aim for Tinkerbell, because I imagine they may go easier on you with her. I'd study the girls they have already cast as her (perhaps googling "Tinkerbell face character") and seeing what they seem to look for, similarities in the girls, etc. How does she do her makeup? etc. Don't give up totally on your dream, audition. You never know. Maybe they have a new role opening up that we don't know about? Then see what happens. Are you open to being a dancer for Disney? or another role that isn't a Disney Princess? keep an open mind. xoxo I wish you the best, Abby!

    • @abzgen9895
      @abzgen9895 9 лет назад +1

      I've been told to try to become Tinkerbell! Which is definitely on my list and if I don't get it then I still am definitely doing the DCP. I have dance experience so I possibly could become a dancer! I'm just trying to figure out what I want to do. I know they cast Alice, Wendy and Tinkerbell all under 5'2". So they all can be a possibility!! Thanks so much though! I knew becoming an actual princess is pushing it with my height, but you never know! haha I'll just have to wait and see! I'm going to make many vlogs when I do it :)

      Haley Plascencia sorry, sometimes it takes awhile for me to get back to people! I hope you DO audition as Jasmine! that would be amazing! If you're ever cast, please let me know! LOL the Rapunzel I recently met hinted to me that she'd watched Confessions and it made our meet n greet so much more magical and special for our family. As for how I'd of responded I'd of said that the Genie and Tinkerbell got together with Mickey and magically had us be able to fly into this "Whole New World!" haha.. as Pocahontas I'd of said the same thing (Minus the Genie) lol.. though kids always told me I didn't look like Pocahontas when I was her, to which I always replied, "Well, if you'd been drawn into a cartoon, you'd look different too," haha.. xoxoxo I hope this helps! Also, growing up I watched the movie, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and I think that always explained the cartoon/real world divide for me.. dunno if you've seen that one yet. :)
