    oh my god please do NOT apologize for saying that white girls shouldn't be playing pocahontas. they shouldn't be. pocahontas is native american, she should be played by someone who is A). native or B). seriously passes at native. people should be apologizing for casting white girls to play pocahontas, you shouldn't be apologizing for saying that they shouldn't be.

      +hayleypdowd I am Filipino, white, and a little native american. I too thought " I look more like pocahontas than her."unfortunately I am not tall enough. My ethnicity is what also makes me short. I hope Disney makes more of an effort to cast those who actually fit the background.

      "B) seriously passes as native." So if A white girl "seriously passes as native" can she be Pocahontas? I actually have no problem with it, it's unfair to say that someone can't be a certain character just because of their race. I prefer for the cast memeber to look a lot like the actual character because it feels like you're actually meeting the real character instead of just another cast member. But that's just my opinion.

      @@OakesPrincess My question is this are you of First Nations/ Native American Descent if not here's the truth you can't just say "YOU'RE RUINING THE MAGIC" She was a real child who was stolen forced to marry a man forcibly converted to Christianity and she died in England her body was kept there away from her people , this is incredibly insensitive and racist but I'm not surprised it's Disney

    That really breaks my heart about the "savage" thing, like, how do you respond to that? Does Disney expect you to correct them...? That's so frustrating especially because even in the movie, Pocahontas was clearly upset and angry.

    Pocahontas and Mulan are my favorite characters. I like the rare characters more. I love how strong Pocahontas and Mulan are. I love how the show bravery and strength in females. I wish they bring both out in Disneyland California more often. Life mission is to meet both one day:) both should be recognized more. I don't like it when people say Mulan is not a princess because Disney crowned her and she saved her country

    Jennifer, you must know this story! My daughter Paiges favorite princess was Pocahontas! We couldn't find her! The cast member at our resort told us Pocahontas makes an appearance at Animal Kingdom but wasn't sure of the time. We went to the animal clinic the next day and waited and waited and when you walked in, my Daughter was overjoyed! You spent so much time with her. You held her hand and walked with her and talked to her for such a long time. Thank you! She was 6 at the time. If you ask her what her favorite memory is of Disney World, it will always be Pocahontas!

    I watched some videos of Cinderella's step-family at Disneyland. They are so good. They'll sing Sing Sweet Nightingale really poorly and out of tune like in the movie. And the person who made the video asked Anastasia about what she would look for in a man. She said nice and sweet and a baker, like in Cinderella 2. I thought it was totally awesome that she did.

    What you said about male attention with Pocahontas is so very accurate. I remember on my first Disney World trip we saw a Pocahontas show and the males watching were visibly smitten by her, they were even whistling and talking about her thighs, my dad even said that was his favorite part of the trip. That must have been so uncomfortable for the performer.

    I'm so sorry you had to deal with people like that, that's one of the thing I don't like about visiting the parks, are teenagers or even adults who are inconsiderate to the characters and just to the people at the parks, and I'm like people this is Disney be nice and keep the magic, it's okay to be a kid here! I used to portray Princess Jasmine in the musical at DCA and it was kinda annoying if I would hear someone respond smart alecky to one lines I would say before I go into a song and I'm like ugh really??? Fortunately after the song I get to be angry and my poor Aladdins would get the brunt of it haha but ugh why must people on insist being rude!! And don't get me started on the creeps!!! I'm so sorry!! You're beautiful Jennifer and just the way you acted with such grace and admirable!!! I definitely agree you need to do more makeup/beauty videos! I'd love to hear what your favorites are! And maybe individual reviews of them! And maybe things you didn't like? I'd love to see you do a dramatic look and maybe an eyeliner tutorial? Again you're so beautiful! I look up to you so much Jennifer!! 💕💕❤️❤️ please never change!!

And I'm surprised there are creepers in Disney World! It's supposed to be a family place! But now that I work with the public, I shouldn't be surprised anymore. But I still am.
      I loooooove all the tips and info you give us, to me it makes the character that much more real. :)

    You should do a video talking all about the Disney signatures. Like was hard or easy to perfect Jasmine's and Pocahontas's signature? If you were left handed and your character was right handed did Disney make you learn to write with you right hand? Did guest get on you about that? Who's signature do you like best? Ect. Btw I loved this video! It was super informative and interesting!!

    I wish id met you as pocahontas. The one i met was okay, but she didnt say anything about my "just engaged" button and she seemed bored with the conversation. Although I do remember telling her my canoing story when I was in Boy scouts. Copperhead snake about 2' long next to the canoe!! Although, I decided to wear a Genie shirt when I met her. Interesting reaction. But interesting in a good way, and she at least answered the question of what her armband tattoo means. I also asked "If youre Powhatan, what are you doing in Seminole country?" She replied with "The powhatan have had an alliance with the Seminole for years."

    "[John Rolfe] was her real life true love".. Um no. She married Rolfe to create an alliance between the tribe and the settlers. It was hardly love and likely wasn't really her choice. She already had a husband and kid even before Smith got there. She was raped, taken to England, mistreated, and then (allegedly) killed upon wanting to return home. We learn a lot of misinformation about all that went down back then.

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  6 лет назад +1

      yeah. I hear so much about how horrible Pocahontas's life was that it's hard to keep track anymore. All I know is that Americans were horrible to the Native Americans.. (and other groups for that matter, such as the Japanese back in the 1940s).. but for working at Disney, you have to tell their version or else get fired. I liked my job pretty well for a college kid, decent pay, gotta earn a living.. but yea.. The truth isn't always as pretty. As for what truly happened to Pocahontas, I haven't researched enough to decide which truth is the one I most believe because I've heard several different versions.. the one about her already having a husband/kid is a new one for me so I'd have to look into that.. regardless, every story for Pocahontas's real life sounds sad.

    • @ballwizz23
      @ballwizz23 6 лет назад

      That's fair. Well I can respect the fact that you've made an effort to learn about her life. I feel like forgetting it and just adopting the Disney version is kind of disrespectful. I'm 5'6" (and growing! I'm scared that I'll be too tall), I have brown eyes and freckles. I'm half Singaporean, so I don't really look "white" or Asian, at the same time. I really would like to be either Ariel or Pocahontas, but I'm not sure. I was wondering what character I should go for?

    Wow that great Jennifer how you get the part of Pocahontas and she was a really person and she love her people and she love to go on a adventure and believe her spirit and soon my favorite part in movie Pocahontas was is when John smith song too Pocahontas if I never knew you and when John smith song her and tell her at he said no matter what happens too me I'll always be with you forever. That's my favorite part in the movie bet I don't like the Pocahontas 2 very much

      butterfly6864 haha, yes, I was sad in Pocahontas part 2 when John Smith and Pocahontas didn't get together, because I'm like you, I also love the song, "If I never knew you," it is my favorite and one of the most beautiful Disney songs ever. :) But John Rolfe does grow on you if you watch part 2, plus Pocahontas wears a lovely dress. Thanks for watching! xo

    Hello, I've really been enjoying your videos so far and I wanted to know if I could get a little help. My friends and I are starting a princess party business and I will be portraying Pocahontas because I resemble her the most (I'm ecuadorian) and I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to get into character and on some responses to know. I have done a lot of research already on her historically and I know both movies very well but I'm worried I won't be able to respond to the kids well.

    I have native American blood in me and you can tell by my facial features and I've always wanted to be pocahontas at a Disney park but I've always worried that my skin isn't dark enough and that I'll be told I'm not Indian enough to be her.

    I know this is a long shot but what if you had afro-latina features? would you still be able to pass as Pocahontas or would it be best towards Tiana? in the near future I would like to be Moana. although I have no Polynesian blood (Puerto Rican and Mexican) I have been told and noticed I look identical to Moana and I relate very well to her character (so far from what I've seen and read up on). sorry for the paragraph just really needed to ask. by the way you're a really beautiful lady and your daughter is adorable.

    I didn't even know there was such a thing as the Disney International Program, I just thought there was the College Program (which I cannot enter because I'm from the Netherlands). Do you happen to know if Dutch people can participate in the International Program? I can't find that information on the website.

    The harassment you experienced while portraying Pocahontas is inexcusable, but also predictable. Indigenous women are at an enormous risk for sexual assault and murder, and a Supreme Court decision from 1978 deprives Tribal governments of the authority to try non-Tribe members for these crimes.
    I think that Disney's impulse to diversify it's heroines was a good one, but I also think that the choice to "age up" the character contributes to her sexualization. The historical person was roughly ten years old when she met John Smith. I wish there were a straightforward way to educate people about the history without automatically making them defensive.
    I also wish there were stronger protections for performers who are harassed by guests

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  7 лет назад

      only if that's something she really wanted. Funnily enough, her personality, to me so far, seems to be more like my husband.. and he's very introverted (he's a stereotypical accountant, which is what he does for a living, haha) and so I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't into it.. however, my son is more of an extrovert, so you never know if he might become a Disney prince?! :D

      +Maya Fonteyne You definitely can, but you need to be able to work in the country, and if you're portraying a face character role, you'll need to be able to sound like the character you're portraying. That's how I've seen it anyway. xo best wishes!

    Hello Jennifer I have always wondered this for a long time when you portrayed Pocahontas what was your answer or explanation when people or children would refer to you being deceased. Like what do you say at that moment? I've always thought that you obviously don't just want to say it's a movie or I'm just based on her, so what did you tell people? Oh and especially on Thanksgiving I know that it's kinda awkward and offensive to ask that to a Native American since we know what really happened so what would you say? Thank you!!!
