With the release of the Google Chromecast TV HD I wanted to wait a bit before I talked about my experiences. I spent a whole week trying it out in replacement of my Nvidia Shield TV and it did not go well. This thing is slow and has a ton of issues, but it just doesn't get better. It is hard to talk about the positives on a device that has a taken a huge leap back.

I use the Nvidia shield as well... Read an article yesterday actually the Amazon Firebox Gen 3 might finally unseat it. Would love a review and your thoughts on it. I'm hard-core Nvidia and the thought of jumping ship isn't cool to me but.. lol 😆
UGT. What type of camera on the top of the TV and cost? Works on any TV like Sony or android TV Box?
Of course it's a downgrade from Shield. Chromecast and Shield were never in the same league in the first place. A more logical comparison would be with an early chromecast without Google TV.
This version of Chromecast is an improvement on the old one for everyone who don't have a smart TV or older Smart TV. Especially since a lot of older TV's don't invest into updating the apps on there. Even standard apps like RUclips get removed. With this device you can use RUclips and most of the well known streaming services apps. I myself am using an older TV as a glorified pictureframe. And display aquarium or fireplace in the background for atmosphere. And secondary monitor in case I want to do some gaming on my main TV but still want to follow a football match at the same time.
This chromecast is a whole lot cheaper than a Shield TV or MI box. And much better alternative to android boxes. Those aren't built to last. Obviously, I had a specific goal in mind. If you were hoping or expecting this thing to compete with a Shield TV then surely you will be disappointed.
I need to replace old 14 yrs old non-smart tv , but can I override useless navigation apps interface with using chromecast straight to yt only ¿ do I have to buy google tv to achieve it¿ I can’t find tutorials videos about this.

I have 2 Google TV for a year now and for me it's working fine. I use it daily to watch online streaming TV but of course also Netflix, Spotify and Amazon Prime.
I love the interface and the Google TV never let me down so far.
Overall I can say that I like the product and for the price quality it's worth a try.
I agree the normal Google tv 4k chromecast was great. However for 10$ less this is a big downgrade

Quite a meaningless comparison. How many of these you can buy again for a price of one Shield? And it's a bit dumb these days to call it "lazy" to not use resources in vain just to re-design some perfectly good casing that you're supposed to hide somewhere not to be seen. It's also misleading to say there are only downgrades compared to 4K version. AV1 gives a lot future-proofing.

Mine works great, I’ve had 2 of them for a couple of years now.
Google Chromecast HD isn't created to compete with existing devices or even evolve. It is meant to be used for devices that are only capable of 1080p displays or lower, hence the lower price and specs. It's targeting old/existing devices that are not capable of 4k.
This means that Google is aiming for households that do not have 4k displays, or doesn't need 4k streaming devices, to give them the chance of owning a better streaming device at a much cheaper option.
This is where Nvidia Shield and other streaming devices within the price range are beaten, because it almost has the same features as the 4k Chromecast. This is considered a killer move by Google.

You have a point; I currently have a really old Samsung Smart TV (2013) that definitely doesn’t have 4K res and I refuse to buy a newer TV since I rarely use it. But it’s nice to sometimes watch things on a bigger screen when the occasion calls for it. I can’t seem to throw away my TV while it’s still technically functional. It’s nice to know that Google really thought about this and offered an HD version.
@@julietdang agreed.. i also have a functional 1080p Samsung non-smart TV from 2012, and this device seems to be a perfect companion for it..
But it stutters and drags... It's a bad media player. You would think that limiting itself to HD streams would provide more reliable performance, but it doesn't. It's really close to unwatchable because of the stutters.
It's not as good at streaming as the first gen Chromecasts, and the kicker is that Google won't even sell you a Chromecast without GTV any more.
Don't buy this product. Go to a thrift store and get an old school Chromecast.

I have watched numerous videos on Chromecast HD and nobody said it was slow ever. In fact it was the fastest device tested by most. Was it perhaps a WiFi issue you had at home, Did you do a speedtest on your link to see ? The Chromecast interface can be customized people - it is not set in stone. There is a major update (software) for Chromecast dated : Feb 21, 2023
You decided before you started that you didn't like this device and you kept comparing it to a $200 Nvidia or $50 version of the chromecast. At one point you compared it to the cheap fire device and said they did it right even though they took away the remote. That doesn't make any sense. I bought 2 of these before Christmas for $20 each. I'm replacing 2 of my roku streaming sticks with these because they have features the Roku can't do. I think they are an amazing budget device. I wish I had grabbed a couple more at the $20 price and I will when they go on sale again.
I just bought a chrome cast HD and I never regret it, it is fast and reliable, so don't talk about downgrade of chrome cast

I've been pleased with mine. I recommended to my clients. They love it.. most people don't know that you can hook up a USB hub and go crazy with it, adding memory, storage and a plethor of other things.. I have the 4K. I only recommend the 4K. I don't know about the HD version.. but dude Chromecast is awesome with Google TV. 4K
I haven't been successful in getting clean master to open on mine any suggestions how to get it to work? It works on my onn tv box
to each his own, but you come across 100% Google hater. The 4k Chromecast w/ Google TV is a top recommended device. Not downgraded or slow at all. I have zero delays like you, what do you mean "super-fast internet"? Just crazy, tell people the details of your connection.

I prefer Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and it does what I needed to do and that is to stream content. And I love Google TV UI. The Nvidia shield has old android ish UI. Team Google TV All Day Everyday!!!

The UI sucks ass. And the ergonomics of the remote sucks as well. It does what it's supposed to do, but I'll take my Shield over this any day. I paid $100 for my 2015 Shield. I steal EVERYTHING I buy on ebay.

Where I live (Japan) this thing costs about 33 USD on Amazon. The Nvidia Shield (not the pro one, the cylinder thingie) is about 240 USD (same Amazon). Maybe they don't have a distributor here (isn't Nvidia a Taiwanese company? mm).
The math is very easy, especially since I only need Plex and maybe RUclips on a HD tv (the big 4K one already has google tv pre-installed - and yeah, plex, ps5, switch and a MiSTer).

First of all that is a bad comparison because of the price difference and what it does and second of all sounds like you have bad internet connection because mine rarely is ever slow or freezes up
I just use my phone to cast to my TV. It's a lot easier to manage content with the apps on the phone. However, I haven't tried this on a 4k TV.
The Chromecast is great. Cheap as chips and works great.
🤔 I swear I thought I saw that Netflix logo pop up faster. I have a 70" big screen TV from 2014 with a terrible app interface from yahoo. It is like Google made this device specifically for me. I don't need something like the Nvidia Shield.
My TV is a 1080p HD TV. If budget is not an issue, should I buy 4K chromecast and enjoy the benefits of features of 4K chromecast ? which features of 4K chromecast I can enjoy on my HD 1080 TV ? Finally what is your advice ?

Every TV in my house, and in my mother-in-law’s house, we use Chromecast TV 4K and it’s the most simplistic an polished to use in my opinion. If you have a smart home with Google cameras I can easily pull up video on the TV. Also, I like Google TV better than Hulu and sling.
$30 device that I can make badass with just a USB C hub. I'm am Broke AG, so... I'll take the Google tv. 👍

It works great for me best streaming device I seen I just was forced to get one not long ago because my 4k tv decided to start malfunctioning so I had to dust off the old none smart tv and this device is great it’s made for people who have none smart tvs in there hole still not for TVs that’s all ready smart ijs 🤷🏿♂️
If I had to replace my Nvidia Shield Pro with my Chromecast with Google TV 4k on my main TV, I would most likely end up smashing the TV along with the Chromecast itself out of pure frustration.
I use the Chromecast with Google TV 4k in my bedroom but I really hate it at this point. Due to it's sluggish UI and unreliability, I am now looking to replace it. I can't even imagine trying to use the HD version.

Bro legit makes the test from turning it on and starting Netflix, to try and make the crome cast Seem bad. Shit back fires on him and he includes it in the vidio and says processor speed. Bro just proved that you Can g’et a processor speed about the same for 170 dollers less. My onn tv box has twice as much storage memory left on it with basically the same apps installed. I use clean master on the onn tv box but it won't open on the chromecast with Google TV. Any suggestions?
All these people who have no idea what they are doing giving advice..takes seconds for me to cast from my phone and its faster to search and cast from phone. Plus the fact I can disable all ads without having to pay if I'm on android

Just got a chromecast 4k for my S95B and it has been very disappointing… first thing I found was no 444 color for 10 bit or 12 and then I played content and noticed annoying stuttering, even with the “non-seamless” frame rate settings. I’m liking the Samsung tizen os more and more everyday lol.

I have 30mbps service and my chromecast is waaaay faster than yours. You either have a dud, getting signal interference or a modem issue.

I'm gonna be completely honest. I bought a Shield back in 2019. Used it for 2 years. Wifi kept disconnecting. I don't use it at all anymore. I replaced it with a firestick 4k and the living room tv is still working fine on that..3 plus years in fact. I just got a chromecast 4k and did an update today. Seemed a tad slower but went to developer options to speed up the ui and its working fine. Shield is way overpriced and under-delivers.
I was just at Walmart contemplating on buying this thing. Good thing I subscribed, after talking smack about this guy's audio. Lol.

Google has admitted to slow response times and rolled out two updates in 2023 to address those issues. They promised better startup time and scrolling time.
In comparison with a firestick google tv hd is Gold.

Well this is just a pointles video to watch. You are comparing a $30 dongle to nvidia shield - an (now kinda obsolete) $200+ device? Do you even recognize the astronomical price difference? How can you say that google was lazy on releasing the device? I had and original Android TV box (developer ADT-1) since 2014 and the software went thru some HUGE upgrades.. That the looks are the same as a more premium version?.. Common - how important would it be for someone who has a HD monitor and wants just a few things to do? Like netflix e.t.c.?

I always prever different systems. It's quite nice , and I don't like the RUclips interface to much. It's very boring and I'm missing something totally from that device that you use different and maybe if then the apps you chose.vi just like different devices and separate software I think.
But only this and fire stick can out tv on and off and or volume. On the cheap versions.otherwise I would go Roku

The 4k Chromecast with RUclips TV is pretty glitchy. Even though I have it plugged into a USB plug of a Sony Receiver that controls all my devices, it turns itself off if it’s unused for a few minutes.

I had the same problem. You got a VPN and you need to turn off your feature on youtube and Google. I did that I haven't had any problems at all super fast.
